Kamla: Increase retirement ageBy Kristy Ramnarine kramanrine@trinidadexpress.com
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has expressed an interest in increasing the compulsory retirement age of public servants from age 60.
She made the suggestion at a function in honour of former permanent secretary and chief personnel officer, Sandra Marchack, at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann's on Saturday evening.
Admitting that Government had tried to keep Marchack employed, she said, "Because there is so much institutional amendment and so much that is good in so many of our public servants, but because of the compulsory retirement age they are not able to go beyond that. And of course we have the fellas in the green shirts marching in downtown Port of Spain as well."
Describing Marchack as a woman who is "phenomenal in spirit, personality and work ethics", Persad-Bissessar said the former PS provided invaluable assistance to her as Prime Minister.
She added, "And I recall on the day I was about to be sworn in, Ms Marchack called me and said the flooding that is taking place in the country, that she would call those from the ODPM to come to meet with me at the swearing in. And so I began my career as Prime Minister with my boots on thanks to Sandra Marchack."..
