Title: The death of rum shops
Post by: fishs on May 27, 2007, 01:04:23 AM

This article is more than just about the rum shop thing, this is the death of an industry that brought most of us to these islands... reflect on Carribean man by Stalin and Redemption song.

Right or wrong this is a turning point in our history but never forget it.

 Its where we came from

This is sad as when ah go home ah does look forward to this ritual. It is the TNT version of out door pubs etc.. it is 'we ting'; almost sacrilegious to see the death of another cultural icon.

Mr. Ram's rum shop on El Socorro road was a local watering hole.  I remember the days when a carib was $3 and cold no ass.

well if dat dying it dyign ah slwo death. allyuh ever been to sande grande, i think that place have de highest density ah rum shops in de world. and since i leave highshcoll dey get more. alot of them are in de traditional style..not no bar.

at anyrate i think that article more alluding to the demise of the rumshop as it relates tot he sugar cane farmers and a tradition. in smaller communites like rampanalgas, blanchicesse biche etc and even mayaro...rum shop tradtion still alive ...still..how long again who knows, but dont nail de coffin before de body inside nah
