Prosecutors will not charge Miss Washington USA in stabbing of Rapids' Marco Pappa.
By Jesse Paul (The Denver Post).
Miss Washington USA Stormy Keffeler was implicated in stabbing of soccer player in Seattle
Prosecutors in Seattle will not file charges against Miss Washington USA Stormy Keffeler in the December stabbing of Colorado Rapids player Marco Pappa.
"No criminal charges are being filed," Dan Donohoe, spokesman for the King County Prosecutor's Office, told The Denver Post on Thursday. "The case has been declined as legally insufficient."
Police records say officers found soccer midfielder Pappa in his Seattle apartment on Dec. 17 with stab wounds and soaked with blood. They also found a bloody kitchen knife and Keffeler with blood on her hands.
Pappa was uncooperative with investigators, according to an internal memo from the prosecutor's office reviewed by The Post, and did not return requests for further information.
Keffeler, who was 23 years old at the time of the stabbing, is Pappa's ex-girlfriend and the Miss Washington pageant winner.
Police said Pappa and Keffeler appeared to be intoxicated when police questioned them about how Pappa became wounded with 2- to 3-inch stab wounds in his left side.
Keffeler originally said Pappa showed up at the apartment with the wound, authorities said. Then she changed her story, saying they were walking home from a bar when an unknown person bumped into Pappa before they noticed he was hurt.
Eventually, Keffeler refused to continue talking with police, according to official records. Pappa was taken to a Seattle hospital for treatment.
Inside the apartment, investigators found blood trails snaking through the residence leading to blood-spattered bathroom walls with stab marks on them. One investigator found a bloody kitchen knife in the kitchen that was taken for evidence.
After Pappa was treated, he told investigators several different stories about the night, including that he was having dinner, felt some pain and later found out he was stabbed, according to police reports. He also told investigators that after leaving a restaurant with Keffeler, he gave money to a homeless person in the street then noticed he was stabbed.
Pappa denied that Keffeler stabbed him, stating that he was drunk and couldn't remember what happened, the reports say.
The internal memo says, however, blood evidence in Pappa's apartment, including on the knife found in the home and the absence of any blood evidence near the apartment's entrance, undermine his claim that he was stabbed outside.
Keffeler was crowned Miss Washington USA in October, but resigned her crown in January after she failed to disclose a driving under the influence conviction, The Associated Press reports.
Pappa, who was traded to the Rapids from the Seattle Sounders two days before being stabbed, missed team workouts after the stabbing and it took weeks for him to regain physical fitness.
He didn't see any competitive action during the preseason.
Pappa has been the Rapids' most important offensive player this season, having played a role in all three goals Colorado has scored.
In four games (two starts), the creative maestro has two assists and scored a game-winning goal against Los Angeles Galaxy on March 12 to give the Rapids their first win of the season.

I still strongly believe the national team should play a friendly match against a regional team in August to prepare for this game. The one game against Uruguay in May is not enough. Remember this game is at the beginning of a new club season in September so many of our players will be rusty.
.
-
I agree.
-
Name allyuh team nah?
Yuh see de Pro League schedule f00cking up T&T national team.
We have to play Guatemala and USA and them players active in they leagues.
So now Hartie have to pick a bunch of foreign players (except MLS) on preseason and local players who eh play a regular game since de pro league ova in May.

Boucaud wants Trinidad and Tobago to get it right on September 2nd
TTFA Media
With September 2nd approaching, T&T English-based midfielder Andre Boucaud is gearing himself for the crucial 2018 World Cup qualifier against Guatemala at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
A draw will push T&T through to the Hexagonal round which begins in November but T&T faces the United States on September 6 and perfect results in both matches will see T&T top the semi final group ahead of the Americans.
“Yeah of course we’d love to top the group, like many people didn’t expect us to come out of the Gold Cup group ahead of Mexico but for me, the main thing is getting the result against Guatemala to take us into the Hex,” Boucaud said.
“Everyone knows how hard we’ve worked to get here and there’s no way we can expect Guatemala to come home and make it easy for us because they have a good chance as well,” he added.
“The last three games for us weren’t pretty but I think once we come in with the best possible team again and we get the right build up then we can go into the Guatemala game at home knowing that it’s ours for the taking. That is the kind of positive approach we must have, get the right result and then go to the US and try to finish the group on top.
“At the moment I’m getting myself ready for the new season ahead with Dagenham. We’re into preseason now, working hard so by the time I come to Trinidad for the game I should be all fired up for it,” Boucaud said.
T&T are on 10 points, three ahead of the US with Guatemala in third place with six points and St Vincent in the bottom place without a point. So far only Mexico has assured its place in the CONCACAF Final phase which begins in November. If T&T tops the semi-final group they will open the Final stage at home to Mexico.
-
Not only you Boucard. We all want T&T to get it right on September 2nd.

I hope all of them are working on their own fitness level. Hart would not have time for that. When they come for this game, they should mostly be doing strategy, tactics, offensive and defensive free kicks and cornerscorners, and penalties.
-
So are we going to have a friendly .. before this game ...
-
Any word on Jan? I think we need to be concerned. I see a nightmare occurring if we are without him. Something to think about.
-
Less than a month to go. No word on Bostock, no word on Jan fitness, no preparation plans.
Guatemala have a three week training camp starting next week with two friendlies against Panama... :waiting:
-
To be fair 90-95 % of Guatemala's core squad is based in Guatemala. Compare that to ours where our core players are based in the USA, England, Belgium and Russia. Hardly likely we can have a three week camp prior to a game when players are dotted all over the globe. The only reason I believe they (ie TTFA) would have to release the information on Bostock's eligibility is for us the fans benefit, other than that their is no other beneficial reason. Correct me if I wrong but one poster in the last few days noted that Jan was still not fit and wasn't on the team sheet for Central's CCL game vs Vancouver Whitecaps.

I didn't expect us to have a three week camp honestly. Just some word on preparation plans. Leads one to think there are none... yet.
I also think Jan is out, but no official word. His club would probably be the source for that.
As for Bostock, if the TTFA had any good news I'm sure Feuntes & co. would have said something. Usually with T&T silence means no news which in this case means bad news.

When I don't hear any news about the team, I tend to get nervous but...say what we have a month, plenty time still

Guatemala roster for Panama friendly named
CONCACAF.com
Guatemala will travel with a 20-player roster for an international friendly on August 10 at Central American rival Panama.
Head coach Walter Claveri is using the match as preparation for his team’s last two fourth-round World Cup qualifiers against Group A table-topper Trinidad & Tobago (September 2, away) and out-of-contention St. Vincent & the Grenadines (September 6, home).
The Guatemalans currently sit in third place, one point behind the United States. A win or draw against T&T will keep them in contention. A loss to the Caribbean power, however, combined with a U.S. victory over SVG, will mean elimination.
The squad – that includes seven players from Comunicaciones and five from Municipal – will convene on Monday at the Project Goal facility.

Usually clubs get notified about a month in advance and then the squad is announced about a week or two after. I assume that week is to engage in dialogue in case there may be any issue that could affect availability. Injury, negotiations based on club commitments etc before the final squad is posted.
Thats why we sometimes get updates on club sites on individual players before the full squad is announced

The good news: Guatemala did not score despite reportedly more possession. The bad news? ... They also did not concede.

ain't going to be no walk in the park nah... 10, 14 & 20 and quite a few others have deft flicks and nice darting runs that could earn them free kicks in difficult places. I think we will score one and hopefully not concede 2.

We beat them away ...We should beat them at home. Not an "easy" task, but the conditions require that outcome.

Hart sets his sights on Guatemala for September 2nd World Cup Qualifier.
TTFA Media
Trinidad and Tobago head coach Stephen Hart took time on Wednesday to relay some of his thoughts leading up to this country’s all important 2018 World Cup Qualifier against Guatemala at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Friday September 2nd, 2018.
The “Warriors” boss said he expects to announce his squad for the match in the final week of August and he is continuing to monitor the exploits of his players both on the local and overseas stage before naming the final roster. T&T also faces the United States in Jacksonville, Florida on September 6th. The ‘Warriors” are currently top of the four-team group with ten points, three ahead of second placed USA and Guatemala (6 points) and they need a point to secure a spot in the final round.
“It’s obvious that we need to get points from these two games. Guatemala is the first game at home and we are all aware of the business that needs to be done to get us into the next round,” Hart told TTFA Media.
T&T defeated Guatemala in Guatemala City in the earlier qualifier in November with Khaleem Hyland and Kenwyne Jones netting the two goals. T&T also got off to a flyer with three first half goals in T&T’s 3-1 win at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The last time T&T needed a victory to stay live in the final round of qualifying back in 2005, Russell Latapy notched the equalizer and Stern John grabbed a late double to give the “Warriors” at 3-2 win at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. When the two nations met in the semi-final round of the 2010 qualifiers in Port of Spain, Guatemala struck late to leave the score at 1-1.
For Hart, history means little come September 2nd.
“I don’t give much thought to history. I respect it for what it is. But you are looking at one game, Anything can happen in one game and we are quite aware of the mentality of Guatemala. they have to get points from the next two games and they will see this game as potentially the game that they need points from so we just need to be focused and concentrated on our own game, fulfilling our roles and responsibilities and taking care of business,” Hart said.
Regarding his squad selection, Hart stated: “I’m looking at the players and the games with their clubs. A lot of them have gone through their preseasons with their clubs. I am in contact with most of their players and I am seeing them through live feeds. Yes it is important that they are playing. The locals players, it is unfortunate, the lucky thing is that some of them are playing in the Champions League. Some of them are not playing and that has to weigh heavily on the selection.

It will be tough for trinidad to beat guatemala 3 times in a row.
obviously their backs are against the wall so they leaving it all on the field.
it will be up to us to be conservative and approach the game smart.
counter attack when given the opportunity and be safe in the back.
This is a very tricky match and nerves will be at play.
Vincy and Usa next respectively means no room for error.
Hart needs to make sure these men have the mental aspect of the game on.
and the testicular fortitude to see it through.
This go be a tough game
time to see what we made of.
Be patient and see what guatemala come to do.

Well, we've never lost to them in T&T, so we have that going for us. Plus they haven't beaten us in six games. Of course none of that really matters.

Any chance we could get it in the stadium the day before and sit it at the bottom of the seats where it normally sits around game day? What do we need to do to put in a request with TTFA and Stadium management to gain access Thursday evening?
I don't mind coming out the evening before and organizing. Game day i working so i wont get down to HCS till around 5-5:30.
I could print some flyers so we could distribute in that section that the flag is pulled over to give folks notice and even solicit some extra hands to pull up and down.

Jones: Nothing for granted versus Guatemala.
TTFA Media.
Trinidad and Tobago captain Kenwyne Jones says that this country can leave no stone unturned for the all important September 2nd World Cup qualifier against Guatemala scheduled for a 7:06pm kick off at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.
Jones was speaking on Monday as he trained with local club Central FC ahead of their Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League fixture with Sporting Kansas City on Tuesday night.
Jones has been back home for the past few weeks training with Central FC which he is on loan with from American MLS club Atlanta United FC
“I think it is the most important game that we have for the reason being that it’s the next game. Of course there are some added bonuses to it because a point will take us in the final round. We are playing at home and we will be trying to put on a good performance as we have been doing in these qualifiers so far and go for the win,” Jones told TTFA Media.
“By no means we will try to play for a point though. That should be a worst case scenario. I know all the guys are preparing wherever they are. And in about two weeks time everyone will get together for the camp ahead of the match. It’s a critical period for us and one we are all really looking forward to.
“I am definitely looking forward to it and I hope the country is as well. We definitely need that twelfth man support because we are doing it for them,” Jones added.
The former Sunderland striker spoke about his decision to move to Atlanta as well as Central FC (for the rest of the year) as it related to him being closer to home and the national team during the qualifying matches.
“I felt within myself that I have traveled too much throughout my career and coming up to this crucial stage of qualifiers I think I needed to be a little bit more prepared. I didn’t want to have the twenty and thirty hour travels to come in for matches. It was also for a change in environment, trying a new league and also being closer to home because I have been away for a long time,” Jones added.
Tickets for for the qualifier on September 2nd will go on sale to the public from this Thursday August 18th, 2016.
Tickets, priced at $300 (Covered Section) and $150 (Uncovered Section) will be available exclusively through Sun Tixx on the VIA network and will remain on sale while stocks last and throughout the duration of the match which takes place at 7:06 pm on Friday September 2nd, 2016.
Fans can visit any of the nine hundred (900) National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB) Lotto locations nationwide to purchase their tickets. Patrons are also advised to avoid counterfeit ticket issues by purchasing directly and only from the authorized agents.
Guatemala are expected to arrive in Port of Spain around August 28th to prepare for the match. They drew 0-0 with Panama in a friendly international last Wednesday in Panama City.

Stern John backs Warriors to conquer Guatemala
TTFA Media
With the days counting down to the September 2nd CONCACAF World Cup qualifier between Trinidad and Tobago and Guatemala at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, ex-national striker Stern John is throwing his full suport behind the “Warriors” and backing them to get the desired result.
“I think the team has to continue playing the way they have been. The last couple of matches we saw them really gelling and playing well together as a team and I think once they do that then we can get a fantastic result against Guatemala,” John told TTFA Media.
“I think after the World Cup in 2006, we raised the bar and then went back down a bit but I think over the last couple of years the football has changed a lot and the team has been doing really well. I think coach Hart has been doing a fantastic job with the players we have.
“We have to gel a bit more, play a bit more football but we are putting down the ball and you can see the guys are gelling.
Definitely I still get goosebumps (for a game like this) and sometimes you wish you can still be playing but you can’t,” John added.
The former Birmingham City and Sunderland striker, says the time has come for T&T to make the Hasely Crawford Stadium its fortress for competitive games of this nature.
“I think the guys will be up for it. It will be massive game for us. We are on top of the table but I think the time has come for us to make our home a fortress for any teams that are coming to Trinidad, we need to show them that we cannot be beaten at home,” John stated.
John notched a late double to push T&T to a come from behind 3-2 win over Guatemala in 2005 in a match where T&T needed a win to keep its Germany 2006 qualifying hopes alive. Russell Latapy made a return in that match and scored the opening goal for T&T. John went on to score three goals in T&T’s remaining games to qualify for the World Cup Finals.
“It was a memorable game for me and the entire nation. We left it late but Guatemala made it difficult for us which means they will not come here and lie down. We have to be clinical and not make any unnecessary errors and take our chances on goal when they come I think it’s going to be a competitive match but I’, expecting our boys to come out on top and go through to the hex which is where anything can happen. Once we are in the final round, our chances of qualifying for Russia are good as any,” John concluded.
T&T head coach Stephen Hart will announce is squad for the encounter against Guatemala on Thursday. The team will go into a live in training inside the final week before the match which kicks off at 7:06pm. Tickets for the match are currently available at Lotto Locations nationwide.

Molino raring to go versus Guatemala
TTFA Media
Trinidad and Tobago US-based midfielder Kevin Molino is eagerly awaiting the chance to run out against Guatemala in what will be his first match against the Central Americans in thirty senior international appearances.
Molino missed T&T’s 3-1 and 2-1 victories over Guatemala at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup as well as the previous semi-final round World Cup qualifier last November due to injury. But the 26-year-old Orlando City midfielder is hoping to get the nod for this encounter from T&T head coach Stephen Hart and is planning to launch his assault on Carlos Ruiz and his men on September 2nd at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
“I’m very excited about this match, very pumped up and ready for it,” Molino told TTFA Media.
“I know the boys are all focusing on this one because we all know what is at stake and we know what is needed in order for us to take care of business. Personally, I am staying calm but I also want to be involved and do my part because I’ve never played against Guatemala at the senior level. I watched the two games on television while I was recovering from surgery and I believe that while the game will not be easy, we have all the necessary tools to handle them at home,” Molino added.
The Carenage-born player is hoping that T&T will be firing on all cylinders on September 2nd.
“Definitely we need everyone to be on top of their game. Coach Hart knows what he wants and he knows what it will take to get us the result to have us qualified for the final round. Most if not all the players are in top gear at the moment and looking forward to these two matches. The coach will know who he wants in his squad to get the job done for us,” added Molino who has 12 goals in 32 matches for T&T.
T&T head coach Hart will announce his final squad for the match on Thursday. The team will go into a live in training inside the final week before the match which kicks off at 7:06pm. Tickets for the match are currently available at Lotto Locations nationwide.

Squad being announced today. Foreign pros should be touching down from Sunday.
Doubt there will be time for a full friendly before the 2nd, hopefully they get a scrimmage or something. I just hope the government don't have any bright ideas to pull these guys away from training for any Independence Day activities.

Interesting, he looked good in the cameos for Central FC. May be just a lack of match fitness, but he is quality.

Interesting observation, only 5 of 24 in the latest squad play their football in the pro league, that is counting KJ who is really on loan.
-
M Phillips/Ranjitsingh
David Bateau Abu Bakr Williams
Hyland Boucaud
Molino Bostock J Jones
K9
K George for Hyland/Boucaud
Levi for Molino with that tight hammy
Jomal Williams or Hector for Bostock

I noted that too......but apart from the teams in CL aren't they inactive now and as I said a while ago, only pro league standouts will make this team, people who independently lift their games beyond pro league pace...because god knows d coaches ent no help in that department

Good team...
Greg probably won't start, maybe when we win and make it to the hex, he may get a nod against the US...
Phillips Williams Bateau Abu Bakr David Jones Boucard Molino Garcia Bostock K Jones
The reason why I slid Bostock on the wing is because I believe Garcia will be more effective for us in the Center of the park since J Jones may take the left wing.. I'm hoping Boucard will slide into a holding mid role to be our link, Molino may play behind Jones and Bostock if he plays could provide service from the wings, he's an excellent crosser of the ball ...
Abu bakr for me has always played well with bateau so I think he's a good choice..
-
Cummings
DeLeon
Hoyte 1
Hoyte 2
DaSilva

We have a very strong 30 man squad.. With a lot of depth.. What we need is more intl friendlies together so they can continue to gel and SH can get his combos ready for the World Cup..

So Monday it will be made official... That's good news for us and Bostock...
I will say this, pound for pound we have one of the most talented teams in concacaf besides Mexico..
I'm hoping for us to go in the top 3 of the hex..
-
Good going Hartie.
-
So the Bostock situation is still up in the air. On one hand Harte sounds confident. On the other, he chooses his words wisely i.e. "the situation will be resolved by Monday". Nothing carved in stone as yet. But the positive to take is that it was a matter of timing. People were on vacation, etc.. If Harte said that Fifa and the English FA were still mulling over the issue, it would have been a negative thing to hear.
-
It will be interesting to see the composition of that final back 4.
I have a preference for Bateau, Mitchell, Williams and David in that order. Haven't seen Mitchell for over a year though but he was our best defender for a couple years, very quick and strong in the tackle.
Marshall is good on the ball but him and Abu Bakr lack a bit of foot speed. Bakr likes to leave his feet too early for me but is second to Bateau in the air. Cyrus is least preferred for me, great talent but loses concentration at times on the right. Hart likes him though.
We have tried a few combinations in that central defense. I think that is one area where we have to establish that pair for the hex. In the 2006 run there was never a doubt who was starting at CB. I do like the depth that any of 6 called up can play CB .
-
I find Mitchell can be a little wild at times but other than that I like him as a defender. Not currently a fan of Cyrus, but people who know better than I do seem to like him. We'll see who SH decides to play. Like the idea of David and Williams as the fullbacks.

Cyrus, Hector ready for Guatemala
TTFA Media
Two of this country’s home-based professionals, Daneil Cyrus and Hughtun Hector are holding their guards for Guatemala but are confident that the “Red Army” can pull off the desired result on September 2nd at the Hasely Crawford Stadium that will push Trinidad and Tobago through to the Concacaf hexagonal stage for the 2018 Word Cup Finals in Russia.
The duo got valuable playing time for W Connection in their Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League 1-1 draw with Honduras Progreso at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Thursday night. T&T head coach Stephen Hart was in attendance along with TTFA President David John-Williams and both men would have been pretty happy that the two players put in a decent effort and came out injury free from the encounter before joining the rest of the team on Sunday for a live-in training camp.
“It was a good match for both of us a week away from the big one against Guatemala,” Hector told TTFA Media.
“Playing against Central American teams can always be a tricky affair and this game came at a good time for us. I haven’t played against Guatemala in a while because of the injury but I know the squad that we have in place for this match has all the power to defeat them on Friday. They will be coming hard at us but we are more hungry for the result because we know it is an important game for us,” Hector added.
“I think all the players are ready. Kenwyne is back home and has been getting himself ready and myself and Cyrus have been working very hard to have ourselves in good shape. Once we all come together everything will fall in place nicely for this game but we are ensuring that we take no chances,” said Hector who has 36 international appearances.
Cyrus knows what it takes to defeat the Guatemalans having played against them twice in his 56 international appearances and those two outings saw T&T come out on top 3-1 at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup and in last November’s World Cup qualifier in Guatemala City.
“We won the two games but they were no push overs. In the Gold Cup we had a great start with the goals by Sheldon (Bateau), Cato (Cordell) and Joevin (Jones) and then we had to really stand up strongly to them in the last qualifier,” Cyrus said.
“But on Friday I think they will come with a kind of revenge mood and we have to be ready for it. Once we do the right things and we don’t allow them to settle down then we will take care of the match and then be able to look ahead to the Hex,” Cyrus added.
“Our defenders will up for it and I am sure the rest of the squad will be looking to get it together. It is important for us as a team and a country to progress in these qualifiers.”
The Guatemalan side, captained by Carlos Ruiz, arrives in Port of Spain on Sunday to prepare for the match. Tickets for the encounter are on sale at Lotto locations nationwide priced at $300 (covered) and $150 (uncovered).

Apparently the Guatemalans plan to play a 442 diamond with a deep backline. Same formation they played against Panama.
Would mean they would be narrow in the middle and give up the wings. Would be great to get some crosses and means our wing play would be important. Thats already one of our strengths.
I wonder what formation hart will use to counter and what personnel.

Garcia coming off strong preseason for Guatemala affair
TTFA Media
It’s been just over six months since Levi Garcia made his senior international debut for Trinidad and Tobago which he marked with a match-winning double to lead the “Warriors” to a come from behind 3-2 victory over St Vincent and the Grenadines at Arnos Vale. And the 18-year-old from Santa Flora, now a seasoned pro in the Dutch Eredivisie is hoping to again bring his a-game for Guatemala on September 2nd at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
The game, similar to the one in March, is another one in which The Red Army need a result to keep their qualifying hopes alive as a point will push T&T through to the hexagonal final stage while a victory will keep them on course for finishing the semi-final group on top of the pack heading into the closing fixture against the United States on September 6th in Jacksonville, Florida.
“It’s going to be a big occasion for us and I am seeing a tough game as well for us on Friday,” Garcia told TTFA Media “But we will be ready for it. We have an amazing team spirit and a great squad that will pull us through.
“I have not played against Guatemala before but I have seen the games and I know the Central American style so I expect they will come all out and try to stamp their authority. But we have shown that we are capable of putting them on the back foot which is exactly what we will need to do. Once we settle in early and we make sure to avoid any silly mistakes then the game will be ours,” Garcia said.
Garcia has played in all three of AZ Alkmaar’s matches so far this season and is expected to feature for them on Sunday before arriving in Port of Spain on Tuesday to join the T&T team. He also scored three goals for the club in their preseason campaign.
“I had a strong preseason and we’ve already played three games in the new season. I feel really good at the moment. I’m just very excited as always to meet up with my national teammates for these two World Cup qualifiers,” he added.
The T&T team enters a live-in camp on Sunday while the Guatemalans arrive in Port of Spain via Panama City on a Copa Airlines flight at 4:30pm.
T&T head coach Stephen Hart will begin his full preparation on Monday with the majority of the squad.
“We have a some of the players coming in on Monday and Tuesday but we’ll start some work with those that are here on Sunday evening. The important thing will be to have everyone here healthy and ready for the match. It’s nothing new to us in terms of having a full squad in maybe three to four days before a match. We’ll focus on what we need to do and manage our preparations in relation to Friday’s match in a fully concentrated mode,” Hart said.
Tickets for Friday’s match remain on sale at Lotto locations nationwide and are priced at $300 (covered) and $150 (uncovered). Gates open at 4pm on Friday ahead of the 7:06pm kick off.

Kenwyne Jones: We are fired up for Guatemala
TTFA Media
Trinidad and Tobago skipper Kenwyne Jones says his fitness level is on point and he’s raring to lead the national team in Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Guatemala, also issuing a signal to local fans to not wait until the team is nearing qualifying before getting on board the “Road to Russia” campaign.
Jones was speaking on Saturday as he looked ahead to the start of a live-in training camp today (Sunday) with the Trinidad and Tobago 24-man squad ahead of Friday’s encounter which kicks off at 7:06pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. Both he and head coach Stephen Hart issued rallying calls as the “Red Army” attempts to secure its passage through the Concacaf hexagonal stage which commences in November.
“Don’t wait ’till we qualify. The team has been doing well for the past three and a half years, making steady progress and I believe we been giving a product for the nation to be proud of. This is a big game just like those of ’89 and the 2006 games,” Jones said on I95.5 FM on Saturday night. “The ticket cost is less than that of a boat ride so there is no excuse for fans not to fill the stadium.”
The current Central FC player who has played for teams such as Stoke City, Sunderland, Southampton and Cardiff City, made it clear that his T&T troops know very well what their mission is.
“I’ve already had that conversation with them (players) so they know what they rewards can be. We know that we have a lot of work to do and a long way to go still before we qualify (for the World Cup). Even though we have done so well in the group, no game is an easy game and we expect to always have a fight on our hands. I think the team is well prepared to go through the all the ups and downs as a team. We have matured over some time as a unit and I am quite confident in my group,” Jones said.
And Guatemala will be no exception when it comes to feeling the wrath of the “Warriors” particularly on home turf.
“We also have some fire in our bellies. In some way we have a recompense for Guatemala … for the way we were treated in Guatemala. Yes we know it’s all part of football but we are fired up for Friday,” Jones stated.
For the first time since 2004 when he joined Southampton from W Connection, Jones is not joining the national team camp for a World Cup qualifier following an overseas trip. His loan deal with Central FC meant that the big forward did not have to undergo long hours of flying from Europe.
“Of course there is going to be a difference but at the same time I haven’t been training with the national team so this week is still very important in terms of us coming together as a team again. I am fit but who knows, you don’t know what a game will call for. I have the advantage of not traveling long hours anymore to come to play but there is still the preparation to be done before the match.
“The fact that I am still here and playing is the most satisfying aspect of my career.Sometimes even though you still have the age and form, because of the direction of a team, things change and I’m happy that I was given the opportunity to be here still and given the opportunity to lead the team and hopefully that can continue,” Jones added when asked about his most satisfying aspect of his career to date.
Hart will begin his sessions on Monday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium while Guatemala will undergo their sessions at the Larry Gomes Stadium before their one-hour session at the match venue on Thursday.
The National Head Coach also issued a call for the 12th Warrior support on Friday.
“It has always seems to be the one one missing element in our football and in our psyche… our set up in general,” Hart said.
“We have a tendency to like it only when things go well. It’s real life, you have good times, bad times and times when you need to to fight. And when you really suffer to get the result and then you get the result, the joy that comes from achieving that is something that personally drives me. The support of the people… we can’t say enough of how important that is,” Hart said.
Tickets are available at Lotto locations nationwide at $300 (covered) and $150 (covered). Gates at the stadium open at 4pm on Friday. Tickets will not be on sale at the match venue on Friday but once in stock, will be available at the nearest Lotto locations.

Just as I thought. I think FIFA hasn't responded in time. Bostock was probably waiting on the response so he could start packing his bags. But he knows that they are cutting it kind of late, so he probably decided to just pull out and wait for next time.

Any update on Bostock? Supposed to be resolved today.
That is the million dollar question. It's 4pm est. Hence, we should've learned by now. I'm sensing another roadblock or something. I hope I'm wrong.
According to his tweet, John Bostock will be unavailable for the World Cup Qualifiers against Guatemala and the United States.

This is utter nonsense. Men from other countries getting international clearance in days. Its been 6 months!!!! That's incredibly long, even if they were intentionally dragging their feet, this is highly unusual. Was an explanation given? A time-frame. One player doesn't change anything really on the team but I don't like the bad vibes this can possibly bring.
-
Let's not be too alarmed. This is timing. Bostock does not want to keep waiting on clearance. Put yourself in his shoes.. No word from Fifa and and it's 3 days before the game. Might as well yuh give the team the bad news from now, instead of waiting until Tuesday or Wednesday.
-
The question is why is he still waiting. Anyway he will play when he plays. We have the team to win already. He will just improve an already good situation and give us options. Really wish the ttfa was more open on this from a fans perspective...

What so suspect about the tweet?

Theft of his passport. Even if it was stolen getting a new passport shouldn't take more than a day for a player to get called up. TTFA should of made an announcement before Bostock did, but we know how secretive our FA can be at times. Well waiting patiently to see what happens next time around.
By the way big fan of John, hope he does get clear by Fifa and represent us soon.

WATCH: Midfielder Kevan George is ready for Guatemalan challenge

Boucaud: We have to manage the game properly.
TTFA Media.
National Men’s Team midfielder Andre Boucaud believes that the “Warriors” will need to settle early in Friday’s World Cup Qualifying match and will have to avoid letting the magnitude of the encounter get the better of them if they are to achieve the desired result to take them to the Concacaf hexagonal final round.
The English-born Dagenham and Redbridge player was speaking on Monday morning after completing the team’s opening session of a live-in training camp at the Hasely Crawford Stadium training pitch. He and several of the overseas-based players were involved including US-based quartet Mekeil Williams (Colorado Rapids), Aubrey David (Dallas FC), Trevin Caesar (Orange County) and Kevan George (Jacksonville Armada). Also in were Mexican-based duo Jomal Williams and Shahdon Winchester and Estonian-based defender Radanfah Abu Bakr, South Korean-based defender Carlyle Mitchell and new call, goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh who trained alongside the local duo of Adrian Foncette and Marvin Phillip. Central FC’s Kenwyne Jones, Daneil Cyrus and Hughtun Hector of W Connection were also present at training.
The rest of the squad is expected in by Monday evening.
“It’s a massive game and everybody knows the importance of the game. I believe if we do what we were doing in the other qualifying games prior to the last three friendlies, then I think we will get the result that we need,” Boucaud told TTFA Media.
“I’ve been playing a lot of games in England on Saturdays and Tuesdays and my team is doing pretty good as we’re top of the League at the moment and I’m feeling pretty fit and ready at the moment,” he added.
Looking ahead to the affair, Boucaud says while the past two wins over Guatemala are just history now, he doesn’t think T&T needs to change it’s game approach.
“I think the key would be sticking together as usual and not playing the occasion… we need to play the game as is. We all know it’s a big game but I think if we focus on our game and how we are accustomed doing things, sticking together and pull off the result the we can, then I think we’ll be fine on Friday,” Boucaud added.
Midfielder George, who missed T&T’s last five matches is anticipating a quick start from the Guatemalans. George says physically he’s in top shape at the moment
“It’s the best feeling in the world to play regularly for your team, and starting and playing 90 minutes. I feel like I’m in the shape of my professional life so far and I’m just happy to be back in the national squad.” George said.
“Attitude will be the key for us in this game. We need to try and finish them off quickly and give the people something to cheer and not have to leave it until the last game in the round. I think Guatemala will be the same as they were at home minus the fans. They will be nasty, they are going to come in the first 15-20 minutes and be very physical but we will be prepared for any matchup. We have to make this stadium our own so that teams will be afraid to come here and play thinking they can get a result, George added.
Fans can purchase tickets at Lotto locations nationwide priced at $300 (covered) and $150 (uncovered).
-
Is his British passport that get stolen (or lost). Hard for him to get back into France without it apparently.
-
With the british passport he wouldnt have required a visa to enter the states, so in essence he wouldnt even be able to remain with the squad after the match in TT anyways.
His travel date was probably Sunday and unless he coming direct from London he would have to in-transit from the states. Had to make that call in my opinion.
I used to know a girl who worked with the travel agency used by the federation. When most of the foreign based pros were based in the UK it was easier to get them here. Now where we have players in Russia and Korea is all kinda 20+ hours of travel to reach trinidad. When Yorke was playing in australia in 2005 he had to come back first class, that ticket was 70,000 TTD each time.
Logistics can be headaches at times coordinating a full squad.

This looks about right. Switch the wingers and its more a 4231 with Boucaud and Hyland in the defensive mid positions. Very comfortable with that, go poison them with speed on the wings. Kenwyne holding up the ball and Molino, Levi and Jovein running at them plus the option of Kenwyne on crosses we have options. We good.

TTFA Media
The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association wishes to inform the Public that a meticulous Security Operational Policy has been established, adhering to FIFA regulations to ensure the safety and security of all those who attend the crucial 2018 World Cup qualifying match between Trinidad and Tobago and Guatemala commencing at 7:06 pm on Friday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Not sure Hart has "favorites". He certainly did not select George when George was in limbo between clubs, and this policy transparently has been seen to extend to other players. However, George's omission from the proposed squads above also caught my attention. Would concur in that sense.

Red: Friday’s colour
By Andre Baptiste, T&T Guardian.
As we celebrate 54 years of Independence today, let us all be certain we know that talk is cheap!
Talking is for pretenders!
It is time for action, where words mean nothing if we cannot substantiate it with the appropriate action and momentum that will give true meaning to the word “Support.”
As a people that talk a lot and are always quick to kick our athletes when they are down, it is time for every citizen to demonstrate that they care about our national teams by spending their own money and attending the very important football match against Guatemala on Friday.
Our Soca Warriors lead the group with 10 points from USA (7 points), Guatemala (6 points). We need only a draw, but after the experiences of November 1989 and December 2014, the nerves will be tingling.
Guatemala media have already issued a do or die cry so their team, having already arrived early for the encounter, are seeking to entrench in their minds the will to succeed. Information from the Guatemalan media suggests there is a strong belief that there is no home advantage for T&T, based on previous results and the passive nature of the home supporters.
As T&T’s captain Kenwyne Jones said on Isports Saturday on i95.5fm: “The cost of tickets to this match is less than the cost of a boat ride.”
It was a damning comment, as truthful as it was sincere, as biting as it was realistic and as telling as it was honest. In this country, people will pay $3,000 to play mas or to buy two tickets for an all inclusive fete. But with ticket prices at $150 (uncovered) and $300 (covered), we are hearing of persons who can afford asking for complementaries or free tickets. This is just wrong. It is time we forget about this freeness attitude and focus on being patriotic.
So what Jones is asking is that as a man, as a woman, as a child, as a citizen, stand up and be counted in this march to Russia 2018. How many of us can remember the pleasure of 2006 in Germany and the feeling of pride when your national anthem was played. It did not matter which part of T&T you were from, everyone was proud that day.
So there is a strong belief that coach Stephen Hart, this wise and experienced tactician, has a plan for Guatemala, who appear to be quite “cocky” and upbeat, given their run of good form. In that regard, we need the entire T&T squad to be focussed, including those players not selected on the starting eleven .
Honestly, given the current mood in the country and the lack of enthusiasm that has permeated whether through social, political or financial issues, T&T needs to exhale and this time with a concerted and united smile. A full stadium is not an option. It must be a certainty and we must demand of each other the assurances required to maintain that momentum all the way through to our next match against the USA on September 6.
Guatemalan spies arrived here over two weeks ago, flying from the USA and other venues. One hopes that the immigration authorities would be vigilant of this, given the number of Spanish speaking persons that appear to arrive here everyday. On our return flight from Brazil, via Panama, 3/4 of the aircraft was filled with non residents and on my previous trips from South America, I witnessed similar numbers. I understand that many are coming through Miami but whatever it is the Guatemalan officials were here and did their independent work and observed everything from the mood of the country to the playing surfaces and even hotels. We must learn to be as competitive. This sometimes makes the difference between winning and losing.
As we look ahead to Friday, let us all not only wear “Red” on the outside but also on the inside, with true pride and let the foreigners understand that this is our culture, our way and they will have to learn it the hard way on Friday and beyond. It may not be pretty when there is so much on the line and so much at stake. For Guatemala, nothing but a win will ensure they move into the round of six. This makes them especially dangerous.
We can expect the Central Americans to come out full steam and throw everything, looking for that early goal to upset the flow of the national team and quiet the home fans. So a testing time is ahead for the Warriors. They must expect such and hopefully will be ready.
Scoring first is critical and if the Warriors can do this, it will force Guatemala to take more chances which could lead to more goals.
It is going to be a most defining game for several on both teams, with not only careers, but positions and pride at stake .
So let us find our voice on Friday and support your team in “RED”, the Soca Warriors.
-
Guatemala has been on the ground in T&T for days. It's shocking how little scrutiny has been placed on them in the media.
-
Anyone throwing a party outside the hotel where the Guatemalans are staying? We seem to have forgotten the way their fans treated the National team after the 2-1 win in Guatemala.. Also, I remember Harte saying the fields we were given to train at in Guatemala were the worst and were over an hour away from the hotel where we stayed. If I was in TT I would have planned a street fete right outside their hotel.

I would expect to see him as a potential sub late in the game if we protecting a lead. Assuming, of course, that he doesn't start.

Ladddd this game have me feeling anxious. I can't imagine how the players must be feeling. Mods, any cable or live streams for this battle?
-
Phillips Mikiel Williams Bateau Abu Bakr Cyrus Joevin Jones Boucaud Molino George Garcia Kenwyne Jones
I would go with George simply because hyland is more incline to push up, while Kevan seems more the type to stay with the defense and boucaud seems a more thoughtful passer than hyland from the back.....we need to g0 for the win, but I believe in playing a good ball winner or play 4-1-4-1 and kevan stay with the defense

Kind of the same way I felt before the Haiti game.

I believe Coach Hart appreciates what Kevan George brings to the table.
He also believes that ideally, players shoould be playing regularly with their clubs.
Not sure where KG is on that front. That said....it is either pre season or the very beginning of a new season for many players (outside of MLS players) so that MIGHT not factor in as much

Everyone knows we need a result against Guatemala. The important thing here is to focus on the team fitness and mental strength similar to the away game against Guatemala in the opener. I believe the squad is strong with a nice blend of youngsters and veteran players. I hope we don't play for a draw but rather remain patient and be disciplined throughout. Would like to see every player working with and for each other and not get tangled up or see solo plays that can lead to injuries. We are at home so it's important the supporters be vocal and it's important the team gets a good start and not conceed an early goal. We have a good advantage over them but this will be a very hard game so I am hoping the squad can make us all proud with a result not just for the country but for themselves. Nothing in life is given you must work hard for every inch of success and with a bit of luck and some magic let's go to USA as a country that has qualified for the hex.

I must admit, I see George before Hyland and Boucaud, Hyland is more offensive and Boucaud is a better passer but KG is more disciplined in defense, and i prefer we keep a clean sheet first and foremost. We have enough speed and talent on the wings and upfront to cause damage. The only other option which may not surprise me is to play all three at the expense of Molino which may be too defensive for a home game. Hart will make the call but it will be 2 of the three of George, Boucaud and Hyland.

I'm happy they got that pitch, it will make them stronger and it builds character... We don't need to stoop that low because we are more talented and a better footballing nation, our mentality and mental fortitude of the players should be that whatever they throw at us we will counter with without letting it phase us mentally..
Like I said and will continue to say, our team and Mexico are the most talented teams in the region..

Coach, they send us on a dirt field in Guat. City. That motivated our boys and we buss them. Why give them an incentive to get rile up. We don't have to do that to win. We have to earn it on the field. our boys better be ready. This is blood and sand game.

Soca Warriors must beat Guatemala tomorrow.
By Alvin Corneal (Guardian).
I suppose that we can all hope being at home at the Hasely Crawford Stadium and our home crowd support, we should provide the positive atmosphere to enhance the ambiance which motivates our people and players as well. With the celebrations of Independence seeming to run over straight to the stadium, environment is a major factor in our favour.
However, behind the closed doors with the coaching staff and players, the essential question is: “What are our plans to ensure victory?”
From a strategic mode, the concept of playing at home requires a fifteen-minute start that should have the opposition retreating in response to the speed of Levi Garcia, Joevin Jones, Tervin Caesar, who must be occupying the opponents portion of the field, awaiting services from the back four.
Ahead of the speedsters skipper Kenwyne Jones and the quick-footed Kevin Molino anxiously awaiting any type of penetrative service that’s behind the Guatemala defence where the speed and skill of our aggressive attackers can well unsettle the opponents.
But more than that, our Guatemalans friends will realise that defending their goal must be their mantra for the evening. It is not too often that we have had some excellent midfielders who have the ability to be good ball winners and follow the possession game with intensity. We are strong in that area.
Of course, the key to this approach must be the ability to focus well in advance of the first whistle. In recent matches, we tended to be satisfied with rolling the ball among our defensive players and build carefully but slowly, within our own half of the field, which under normal circumstances will be adequate.
The shock of extremely quick play, vociferous voices from the stadium fans, and an attitude of positivity in scaring the visitors, is however, lethal.
Because I am not able to determine who are the players that will start and how ready they are for this encounter, we must place trust in the selection of the coaching staff, seeing that nineteen players on the squad have been playing abroad. Judging from the comments made by some of the players through the media, I assume that they are on the same page.
Another area for attention is the surface on which the game will be played. We are all aware of the significance in pattern of play on a dry surface as opposed to a slippery or Soddy one.
Some may claim that that does not matter much. Well, for a start, the structure or formation used will differ from wet to dry surfaces (and of course, the types of studs which are needed) especially with defenders and goalkeeper.
I assume that the staff may have seen the Guatemalans last encounter against Venezuela, which will provide more confidence to the system of play and the key players to use the surface.
Our recent victories over the visitors must bring horrible memories to them with the first five minutes when the enthusiasm is high, the crowds are rearing to make their demand from our players, implying that their efforts must raise the chants and scare all those who are not supporting the red/white/black shirts.
One great game will just about take us among challengers who will know that we are ready.
Go for it lads!

T&T vs Guatemala as ‘Warriors’ Go for the win.
TTFA Media.
Gameday in Port of Spain
Trinidad and Tobago Skipper Kenwyne Jones will be hoping to lead his team back to the hexagonal stage of World Cup qualification for the first time since the 2010 campaign when they host Guatemala in their penultimate 2018 Concacaf World Cup Group C Semifinal Round qualifier at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, from 7 pm tonight.
The Stephen Hart-coached T&T currently sits at the top of the four-team group with ten points from four matches, three ahead of USA. Guatemala is next with six points and St Vincent and The Grenadines, bottom of the table without a point.
With two matches left for each team, T&T needs only a point from this match to qualify as one of the top two teams from the group to earn a spot in the six-team “The Hex” Final Round of Qualifiers to the World Cup in Russia.
T&T closes out its campaign when it travels to Jacksonville, Florida, USA, to meet the Americans on Tuesday, while Guatemala host St Vincent and The Grenadines.
Tonight’s match for the T&T squad will be the first since its 4-2 away loss to China in June in an international friendly. During its whirlwind tour T&T also fell to Peru (4-0) and Uruguay (3-1) to make up for the lack of activity after failing to qualify for the 100th anniversary Copa America qualifying loss (1-0) to Haiti.
However, in World Cup qualification Hart’s men last match was a convincing 6-0 thumping of St Vincent and The Grenadines at Mucurapo on March 29, with goals from Trevin Caesar (two), and one each from Sheldon Bateau, Joevin Jones, Kenwyne Jones and Kevin Molino.
The good news for Hart is all of the quintet are available for tonight’s clash as he seeks to extends this country’s recent run of impressive results against the Central Americans, which include a 2-1 win away in the first round with Khaleem Hyland, who is also in the team, and Kenwyne Jones the scorers.
In fact, T&T’s last loss to Guatemala, 5-1 on home soil was way back in 2005 in Bertille St Clair’s final match in charge of the 2006 Germany World Cup campaign which was followed by the arrival Leo Beenhakker. The Dutchman turned the entire campaign around and qualified the team to its first ever and lone senior World Cup Finals in Germany.
Since then, T&T has gone six matches unbeaten against tonight’s opponent including 3-3 road win in the 2006 qualifiers followed by three drawn results, 1-1 (2007 Gold Cup), 0-0 and 1-1 in the 2008 World Cup qualifiers to 2010 as well as a 3-1 win at the 2015 Gold Cup and this year’s first round win.
Speaking after his team’s training session at Malabar on Wednesday, the San Fernando-born Hart a former Canada national team coach said his team was getting back to its recent top form.
“From what we have done in training so far, we are starting to show a better cohesion in moving the ball around and a little bit quicker, just as well as we did in the second part of the practice game we played as well.”
He continued: “Guatemala is going to come out pressing and look to score early and keep us under pressure, and we have to understand what they are trying to do very quickly and settle down because there is going to be some tension and hopefully we do that quickly and dictate the game.
With regards to a lack of use of the playing venue for team training sessions in the build up to the match, Hart said he was a bit disappointed because he wanted to have a feel of the “new stadium” pitch because it’s in a very great shape now.”
Midfielder Molino believes the “Soca Warriors” possess the ability to inspire the nation.
“We’ve had a couple good sessions and everyone is really up for this game on Friday. We are not going to take the game lightly. We have a job to finish and we need to keep building on our last set of performances. We will fight until the end,” Molino said.
Yesterday, the T&T team had its second and final training session at the match venue from 6 pm after it was denied use of the venue on Tuesday and Wednesday due to rainy weather.
Coach Hart was forced to conduct training sessions at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, while Guatemala trained at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, on Tuesday and had previously used the Malabar venue.
FIFA Match commissioner Victor Alfaro Gonzalez of Costa Rica who arrived in the country on Tuesday night, inspected the venue early yesterday and signaled the all clear for both teams to have their stipulated 45-minute training session at the game venue.
The referee for tonight’s encounter is John Pitti of Panama, while the assistant referees are Christian Ramirez Soto of Honduras and Gabriel Camerena of Panama.

For life of me, l doh know why people does insist on 4-4-2 FTW, when is d last time we did well playing dat......I find we does get disjointed fast and easy with dat formation. We do better with an attacking mid operating behind d striker almost every time.

Why go after a single point instead of a win? Be careful to go after a draw and one mistake result in a loss. It is always best to go for the win, especially when playing at home

Same thing I saying lefty. Hart has never used it and probably the only footballing nation that does is Sweden. Now that Lars Lagerback is gone that might even change.

Molino can play under Jones anyways and can convert it to 4411

Hart plays 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-1-1
Can't see that changing anytime soon in the international format. His players know the system, doesn't have lengthy periods of time with the squad to tweak that much.
BTW its raining heavily in POS at the moment, last couple days have been sunny but its reverted to the usually midday showers that clear up in the mid-late afternoon. Those stadium bound should walk with something to wipe seats that may be wet.
-
Abu Bakr might be a problem against Guatemala, might d better vs USA.
-
Guys, what difference does it make if you line up 442 or 5321. You still have to attack and defend. You still have to make sure Guat. Doh run thru we middle like basket holding water. We still have to control the middle. Everything depends on the fitness and skill set of the players on hand. I think we have very good players with skill in all department, except mid-field. We still doh have an exceptional mid-fielder as yet.
-

Yea they're short and quick, they might pose a challenge for him. Whoever's in the back, jam dem hard!

Deeks 442 more often than not causes attack and midfield and defense to become isolated very easily for us.....my experience has been dat we midfield does disappear anytime we try dat flat 4 in d middle, leading to "boom kick" ball, d extra middle layer provides a much more easily accessible passing option most times

We are up against simulation and a Master of the Dark Arts in Ruiz. The Panamanian ref should be up to the task.
(Probably not a good time to mention that our CONCACAF jefe was in Guatemala this week reportedly saying "Me siento un guatemalteco más.")

The Federation should just sell all the rights to our home games to the opposition. We clearly seem to lack the focus and intensity which is evident in our away fixtures. We cyah afford to play like this against top tier teams...

i missin somthin?
how are we in if we on 9 and they 8
we hav d harder final game
we on 11...guat on 7 after this game

Ruiz makes the list as being one of Concacaf's best who never made it to a World Cup. I'm sure his game on Tuesday will be his last for Guatemala.
Overall Guatemala deserves the win. You can tell that they have been playing as a unit for a while. So it go. We in the Hex!
-
I still an't believe they came back and equalise in the end with such a simple goal. steupse why we could never keep a lead?
anyway some man will just tell me to hush and be happy we advance
.
nah yuh damn right this time....dat was some shit
-
We eh ready. We really should lost this game! BUT THANKS FOR 1 point.
Actually we should have won that game 2-1, the second goal Guatemala scored was very simple.
-
Glad for the win but lots of work to do. Our fans need to learn how to cheer on the team. a minute to go and they just sitting watching. other countries fans would have been on their feet willing the team on to the finish line. anyways onto the hex
-
We eh ready. We really should lost this game! BUT THANKS FOR 1 point.
I wouldn't go that far. In the absence of a packed international calendar, we have done sufficiently well.
-
Ah go take that point.
Sweet T&T always good for the heart attack football.

This team just need to play a bit more regularly. I thought we played much better in the 2nd half, just didn't execute on a couple chances and lost concentration on their 2nd goal.
-
Okay. We in. It shouldn't have been this hard. Lots of credit to Guatemala. We will do them a favor and beat the US.
we should want to beat US for ourslelves. What you mean by do them a favour? hush with that chupid talk
.

TT freeze up like Greenland when they play matches of importance, but I have to say this match was a real "banana skin".
Congrats we in the Hex

I wouldn't go that far. In the absence of a packed international calendar, we have done sufficiently well.
Like ppl forget we games between 2007 and when Hart come in. The guys had Guatamela kicking down, pulling, playing 2 touch, and rarely gettin thru, and man bawlin we play bad and how we lucky.. we always had this team beat, we take the foot of the gas and let them back in...
add: I include the 1st half..we were playing good, but not intense enuff, is all
-
Guatemala is still in. If we beat America, they are in.

Well if we play next game the way we played today against the US we sure to lose which means Guatemala will not be in the Hex.
This ting is not about doing anyone favours, man in here saying if we beat US then Guat still in, his with that nonsense, look at how we played today but you taking about beating the US :D
-
Hearttttt attack!!! We had bursts of excellence! The Guatemalans fight, and we absorbed, and fight back! Good scrap...we all knew it was going to be one! That game could hv gone either way! TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS IN THE HEX!
-
I didn't think we played that bad TBH, the 2nd half we were in control of the game. Our shape defensively was compact and organized, Guatemala really could not penetrate. I have to give SH credit for this.
-
for the next important game I will be praying for T&T to keep our lead, just once, just do it one time
-

dread how many friendly have d FIRST TEAM played since St.Vincent....you and contro does share ah irksome lack of perspective sometimes.....and I agreed with u about the second goal dat was some shit
-
smh here we go again with the excuses. alright I already know what to expect in here if I see this type of defensive display against the US next game.
anyway Daniel Cyrus was just being his usual terrible defending self once again, and Marvin Phillip was being Marvin Phillip again, their issues have to been there for more than a year now, nothing new
-
First of all, Guat is on 7 points with the draw, not 8 points, our boys are on 11 and mathematically it is impossible for Guat to qualify, unless they score over 9 goals and we beat the US by 4 or some number like that..
The question boils down to now, do we want to face Mexico first game in the hex..
Btw our first half was horrible , passing, transition play, defence, gave them way too much space in our first ... They haven't played for a while so they have somewhat of an excuse, they can only play better from here
-
Should be motivation for DeLeon to find/get/beg for a T&T passport.

we hav d harder final game
We on 11. we beat Guat once, Vincy 2 times and a tie with the US. They could pip us of they run up the score against Vincy. If we tie with the US we in for sure. But after tonite's display, I really eh sure about the road to Moscow.
-
Guatemala is still in. If we beat America, they are in.
If we beat America they are not in...based on goal difference they will not catch up to the US

real lack of intensity and 'purpose" at times... and that 2nd goal :cursing:

Based on goals it will be mathematically impossible for them to qualify even if we beat the US... Unless you think they are scoring 10 or 11 against SVG

We really missed Bostock today. Molino is an excellent RW but not great playing behind kenwyne. Hyland and Boucoud were excellent today. As were Bateau and for the most part Mitchell. Joevin had an interesting game. He didn't do too much but scored 2 goals one of which was spectacular. This team needs move movement among the 3 attacking midfielders.

injury time cato had a man open with acres round him and he didnt even see....dunno if is composure or wat but these things are critical
If he raised his head for a brief second he had two men open. Both options were easier and much better than the choice he made.
He has a habit of running with his head down in crucial situations. I hope the technical staff would review this game film, point out the positive aspects of his game and emphasize the areas where improvements are needed.

While Marvin is not some of allyuh favorite, he save we arse today. He mad some sames in the first and mid second half. Yes the 2nd goal was his fault but other than that he was he was excellent.

I had him on the right wing... I believe him and Levi should start with Molino off the bench..it might be more effective for us..

Congrats T&T and coach Hart and staff! We had multiple close chances in the second half, and should not have given up the 2 points with such a soft goal. Hart needs to tighten up that looseness in the back wide end. We also must push the friendlies hard to integrate defenders like Sannon Gomez and Weslie John into the team. I'm looking forward to Bostock, Cummings, an in-form Molino and maybe Jomal williams adding real power to the middle and up front.

At this juncture, I don't think Levi should start. He is much more effective coming on in the second half and running at the opposition.
For this team, we don't have alot of impact players coming off the bench, so if a spark is needed, he is the one.
-
we need to bring in a sport psychologist or someting.........one ting I admired about the 06 warriors as compare to this team was d unusual (for us) calm under pressure I miss that

Yeah that's also a good idea. I just think Levi's best games are off the bench. He was a spark off the bench today and created a couple great chances within the first couple minutes.

People hear what ah saying which is revealed in every important game against a good team. The problem is our defense, the problem is always our defense.. we could never preserve a lead against a quality team because there is always a mental breakdown in defense. YEARS now this has been our problem. Defenders playing without intensity and confidence. smh
.
-
Guatemala is still in. If we beat America, they are in.
For Guat to make it they will have to hope we beat Usa and they score double digits against SVG.
US on 10 points + 13 goals . Guat on 7 points +1
So if we beat US 1 nil and guat at home put 12 on SVG then guat will make it on goal difference.
so Guat on life support right now, and the Priest waiting to gave the their last rites.

I prefer to see Levi give us that flair in the first 20, I believe we started too slow and after our first 5 and that allowed Guat to work themselves into the game.. I believe Levi unsettles them from the onset to get that early goal..

On paper, they are in. And frankly, that target is not unachievable for them in Guatemala City. If they were playing at Arnos Vale, maybe ... but Guatemala? No. They will do everything in their power to stay relevant.
I'm certain Klinsmann is not operating on the reasoning that Guatemala is incapable of overhauling their target.
Let's do our part to make life interesting for Sunil Gulati.

He is not as dynamic and direct as Levi, defenders eh fearing Molino running at them. But whe Levi gets the ball in the opponents half, his speed allows him to creates chances for himself or his teammates.

Exactly! The defence didn't cause Marvin to gift GUAM that second goal, or have wayward passes directly to the opposition.
I believe this has more to do with our mental shortcomings as a team as opposed to placing blame on a specific unit.

Honestly, we never missed him, because he never played for us before. let's wait until this Fifa fiasco over and they give him the right to play for TT. I find that wait is to friggin long. Unless Scotland turning his head.

While the defence was at a lost a considerable amount of the time, our mid-field and forwards failed to put pressue on Guatemala. Ruiz was the general tonite. He controlled the tempo of the game. Our defence was always under pressure. I eh making excuses.

You sure they were not 'gutted' because of how Guatemala came back to draw the game? hmmm

We always tend to substitute mids or strikers, but hardly our defenders. Ppl calling for Levi to come off the bench, but I think we need a defensive midfielder of defensive back to help with the fatigue, or even a decent winger to come off the bench.
-
We qualified for the HEX with a game in hand! When was the last time we advanced in any tournament in such a fashion?

Not our best game, but we got the result needed to take us into the Hex. Not to mention we still unbeaten in group stages.... Bring on the USA... I really think the boys capable of getting a result on Wednesday. Not to mention over the past year, we played some of our best and most attractive football on the road... Impossible is nothin :beermug: :beermug:
-
I keep saying. The hallmark of success when all is said and done, is the notion that even when the team played poorly, it still got the result.
I am convinced that if we had to win this game, we would have.
This team is pure psychology... and the fans know it. Every home game, from game 1, 20,000 in the stadium. This campaign is special and kudos to Lincoln Phillips for starting the core of this group at U-13 together. Some still on the fringes, and some fell off, but it shows there is no substitute for long term strategy.

The game will also be shown at 8pm tonight on Bein.
I watched the game a 2nd time and I thought we possessed the ball well and were organized in our shape defensively, two areas in which we have grown under Hart. In spite of the lack in concentration for the 2nd goal, we really didn't play that bad.

To the MLS team that signed Kenwyne Jones: what were you thinking?
The search for that elusive no. 10 player should, if it's not, still an ongoing process. That was a pathetic, feeble performance by a bunch of average football players. Cordell Cato should never be a starter on this team, as a matter of fact he should never start ahead of young Levi Garcia. That performance cannot be repeated. The next level demands more than that......

Imagine!37 year old Pescado Ruiz is returning to the MLS with Dallas and we are struggling to place attacking players in the league. I suppose this strengthens Cornell's claims for a recall.
Palos over to you. I sense you might have a contribution to make regarding that.

Jumping in before palos, I find teams are generally more willing to go for a proven, even if old, commodity rather than take a chance on an up and coming unproven talent.

I like and have always liked Cornell Glen the player. I think he would be an excellent complement to KJ. He's experienced and while he may have lost some of his speed...he's still a good finisher. I would think 2 major factors play into his current non selection to the national team
His age
He plays his football in India
As you've pointed out....age could be overlooked if the player looks after himself, is fit, and sharp.
But pro ball in India? What would the equivalent level in T&T be?
Bleeder play ball in India. Why no calls for his rreturn?
Let's see what happens. After all..Greg Ranjitsingh got called up so anything is possible
-
We need Cummins and an inform J.Glen back just like the Gold Cup ,until then the goals dry up .

2. Because iz Bleeder.

Would explain, at least in part, Landon D's return to the Galaxy after TWO years.

We help a old striker get employment. He better send a letter of thanks to Marvin Phillip
-
We will all do well to recall that Ruiz arrived in T&T "unattached". He is not going to Dallas on a club to club transfer.

1. The Pro League, T&T version. Albeit with less money for him at this stage of his career?
You think Ozone could beat St Anns Rangers?

With or without CG?
Look, Orange County Blues without Caesar would struggle against Central.
We could do this all day. :P

Ozone beating Rangers (or vice versa) is irrelevant.

I agree. Just like Cornell Glen being in the national team is moot. Neither of us pick the team, nor have any influence over who is or isn't selected.
Well...I shouldn't speak for you bro...I just know bout me ;D

Whappen, Palos? Yuh geh unfriended? :P
We dealing with an open secret. The recognizable, underlying, undeniable reality is that we lack two items.
1. A purist finisher consistently in advanced areas of the pitch.
2. A purist finisher consistently on the field for the bulk of 90'.
Well ...
3. Perhaps, a purist finisher. Period. Granted, some nuances have been manifest. And that's NO disrespect to anyone because ALL GOALS count equally.
HOWEVER, what do you think the solution is?
Agree? Disagree?
Obviously from this comment you should tell I mention Glen to stir discussion ("moot"), not as the solution per se or as an all-encompassing option.
Guatemala has an entirely different tactical posture than T&T ... that on good days capitalized on Ruiz being opportunistic and a deft, intelligent reader of tight and potentially available/available space (separate things). If he were (1) less dynamic and (2) less prolific, he would be watching Dallas on TV rather than signing with them.
I ask: Locate a pure finisher or "make" or reinvent something close to one combining through the central channel?
Agree? Disagree?

Our friendship has never, is not, and will never be contingent on matters pertaining to any football team. I've never had or have zero desire to have any influence on anything pertaining to the football bro.

If you put it that way, I would have to disagree
I don't think we have a problem in the goal scoring department. Had we demonstrated an inability to score goals, then the argument for a "pure finisher" would have more weight IMO
We have a problem defending.
In 18 matches from the last Gold Cup to now....we've scored 33 goals and conceded 33 goals.
1.8 goals scored per game. Goalscoring not the issue bruh
-
We have a problem defending.
While that may be true, our attacking has left much to be desired lately. From mid-field to forward, our play has become unimaginative since that Haiti game. This has resulted in constant pressure on our defence. I still feel that Hart is not totally satisfied with our defensive play. But our mid-fielders are below par. They out of sync, injured, etc, etc. We have to fixed that fast.

We've played 3 WCQ matches & 4 friendlies since that Haiti match. We scored 6 goals in the 4 friendly matches. We scored 8 goals in the 3 WCQ matches.
14 goals in 7 games. Against a wide variety of opposition....from Grenada to China. If our mid field to forward play that bad and we still scoring 2 goals per game....we could potentially rival Barcelona.

Well, Palos, yuh know what they say about stats: they are subject to selective interpretation. (Aside from that famous line regarding lies, damn lies and statistics).
Having submitted that, let me ask a seemingly contradictory stats-based question to bolster my position:
What is our ratio of total chances on goal (goal scoring opportunities) to chances converted into goals? I would be cautious about dismissing goalscoring as a concern. One has to distinguish between the quantum of goals scored and when/if they are scored.
While all goals count equally (as emphasized above), not all goals matter equally. For instance, Trevin Caesar's goals versus SVG at the HCS can't be said to "matter equally" vis-a-vis Levi Garcia's first or second goal versus SVG in SVG.
Football is a cumulation of critical moments each constituting favorable or unfavorable outcomes based on decisive or indecisive actions that yield advantage or disadvantage. Goals matter most whether scored or conceded?
Even if 1.8 gpg, that stat sweeps several pertinent factors/variables under the carpet.

Well......if we missing more chances than we score...that would tend to debunk Deeks' statement that our attacking play leaves a lot to be desired and our midfield to forward play lacks imagination. Unless midfield supplying the forwards with endless route 1 balls and the forwards contrive to miss the vast majority.

No argument from me. Joevin Jones' goals against Guatemala virtually worth GOLD then

I don't agree that it sweeps anything under the carpet. Our deficiencies are clear. Improvements can be made in EVERY area. I just don't agree that goalscoring is a priority for this team. It's probably the last thing to "fix" IMO

Leh me be clear, our defensive frailties are a priority. BUT, recall, my comments did not start being based on priority. It's impossible to be blind to the issues on transition etc.
The comment stemmed from the discussion on finishing ... as such, it is hand-in-glove regarding chances on goal v. conversion. At this level one can't mask technical deficiencies.
(And as I post this, someone calls into 95 echoing this).
Also to be considered is how chances on goals are generated. Deeks is dealing with ball circulation. Would not dismiss that.
But, bottom line ... attacking ... defending ... behavior on transition ... can't and should NOT be de-linked. Joint, interrelated priorities with joint, interrelated consequences.

I never suggested they should.
However, this whole debate started because of the suggestion to include Cornell Glen. In the light of all the positions on the field......another striker FOR ME is the least of our needs.
I absolutely concur that we should work on all the areas from back to front WITH WHAT WE HAVE AVAILABLE given the time frame involved.
If others come on board....great. I don't necessarily see Cornell Glen as one of those and on that, we can agree to disagree.
Respeck :beermug:

Our average squad age dropped with a few swift selection changes. When I said "because iz Bleeder", that wasn't disrespect to Bleeder ... it was a nod to the reality that we have a younger player with the range and dimension that rendered Bleeder replaceable.
However, the challenge is on for young players "up top" looking for NT work. Ah doh see a clear-cut replacement from the previous cycle.
Not so much abstractly an issue of whether "another striker". We could call several names of players picked in the past three years for a look as options/supplementals in that position.
The issue is have we nailed it yet? My view: We can't have. I would say we have it 60% nailed. Clinical finisher needed. We have players in the mix in the position (or who [say they] could play there) who possess other solid qualities. Two players come to mind. One would need a monumental temperament adjustment. The other would reportedly would need a lobotomy.
However, somebody needs to show up. It likely won't be Cornell especially with a view to the medium and long-term, but somebody needs to show up. From somewhere. clinical finisher needed.
We need someone to complement/supplement what we have. Not replace what we have. Dahis not my contention.
Looking at where our 4th round goals (and service on those goals) came from ... there is an opportunity for someone to rise to the challenge. Dahis all ah saying.

I like the discussion. my worries was in the Guatemala game. Ruiz will take the ball right outside the Guat. area(it don't matter which side) and he would work triangle passes with other Guat. players right up to our area. They look more Barsa-esque when they were playing that way. Yes we had some counter and did indeed scored, but Guatemala was always more in command of the game. If was not for that "shithong" in goal we would gotten about 4. Somehow I see that game differently from some in the forum. I was worried, and I am still worried about the future. Our mids and forwards are not in command and control. I did not see the US game, but the clips that I saw were frightening.
