T&T to face Finland in opening match of 2012 calendar.
By Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

The Contracts of National Senior Team head coach Otto Pfister and members of the Senior Team Technical staff will come to an end at the end in December and will be under review after which a team will be put in place for senior team program for 2012 and beyond.

This was announced at a Media Conference hosted by the TTFF at Jaffa Restaurant, Queen’s Park Oval on Thursday morning.  This among other disclosures were made including a recap of expenses processed up to and including October 31, 2011.

Acting President of the TTFF Lennox Watson also revealed that the Senior Men’s team will face the Finland Senior Men’s team in a friendly international at the  Hasely Crawford Stadium in January and the Under 23 Men’s team will also face the visitors during the visit to these shores.

The dates will be finalized once the Finland team’s travel date is confirmed and TTFF/All Sport marketing chief Anthony Harford said the game was confirmed as the Finland Association requested the match last month and will be bringing a full strength team on their winter-break tour.

It was also mentioned that a minimum of seven friendly internationals per year will be played outside of competitions, during and outside of the FIFA international window.

A new kit sponsor will also be announced in January with the Under 23s likely to be outfitted in  uniforms from the new provider in the upcoming CFU Olympic qualifying final round in St Kitts/Nevis later this month.

The date for TTFF Presidency Elections will be determined at a Congress on November 28.

Pfister meantime will return home on Friday on vacation leave until December 31 and further announcements following the review of the contracts of the technical staff members will be made thereafter. Watson also revealed that the vacant post of technical director of the TTFF will be filled before the end of 2011.

Address by Lennox Watson

This is my maiden speech to the media since being asked to step into the esteemed position of Acting president of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation. A position which comes with the most serious responsibilities and which I will not take lightly.

At the outset let me on behalf of the entire football fraternity and especially the Executive committee of the TTFF, thank Mr. Oliver Camps for his more than 40 years of distinguished and dedicated service to the sport.

Mr. Camps was the longest serving president in our history, who presided over our successful 2006 World Cup campaign, he was also the longest serving team manager, taking us to two almost successful world cup campaigns.

Mr. Camps was a completely unselfish man who was dedicated to the upliftment of the game. We salute his service. The TTFF is planning a suitable celebration for Mr. Camps to honour his years of service and we will advise you in due course of this event.

Today there are several matters I will address, all of them of equal importance to the game and its administration.

1. The TTFF is, as are indeed all of the country, deeply disappointed at our failure to advance to the next phase of the 2014 World Cup. We at the TTFF are aware of the criticisms being leveled, some of them are justified, chief among them the fact that the national team was inactive for 8 months, The TTFF was very short on resources, and during that period, funding was a challenge.

Our failure to make it to the Gold Cup also contributed to our team's lack of sharpness. However, we have been the target in some quarters for selecting Otto Pfister as the national coach.

Some of those who are now attacking the TTFF for bringing Mr. Pfister to Trinidad, should  know the TTFF executive simply adhered to a recommendation of a screening committee. This committee comprised, Dr. Iva Gloudon, Dr. Alvin Henderson, Mr. Keith Look Loy and Mr. Marlon Morris.

This group interviewed all the  shortlisted applicants and recommended Mr. Pfister highly. It is difficult to now understand criticism of Mr. Pfister coming from some of those who selected him in the first place.

Senior player Chris Birchall was frank about our failure to qualify. He said openly, it is not the Coach, it is not the TTFF, it is simply the players who MUST shoulder the blame. Birchall, I quote said simply "We did not want it badly enough".

Ladies and Gentlemen, once we negotiated the funds, the TTFF ensured the players were made as comfortable as possible and left no stone unturned in trying to secure a place in the next round.

This is now behind us and we must move on. Our plan is to now use a group of players who can serve us over the next five years and work towards building a national team capable of not just qualifying for a world cup finals, but of playing with sustained excellence.

Our National Under 23 is a good place to start, but there are some senior players who are young and full of potential. We will integrate them into a national outfit of which we can be proud. We know there will be challenges, but we are prepared to work towards a set of goals that will have us ready for the ultimate challenge of a world cup final place in 2018.

Of course, we must also regain Caribbean supremacy and claim a place at the next gold cup. The quest for the senior team will start with a game against Finland in January here in Trinidad. We plan a minimum of 7 internationals a year, along with participation in regional competitions each year for the seniors.

Our Senior Technical staff, including coach Pfister's contract will come to an end in December. These contracts will be reviewed and a team put in place moving forward.

Coach Pfister meantime proceeds on his leave until December 31st. An announcement will be made before the end of 2011. We also intend to fill the vacant post of Technical Director of the Federation, before the end of the year.

The TTFF is in complete accord with the Honourable Minister of Sports' statement earlier this week, that we must have meaningful development programmes. The TTFF has in place a five year development plan, which was approved by the Ministry of Sport.

This plan includes tournaments and clinics such as the minister spoke  about. We plan to attend the upcoming workshop being organized by the Ministry on November 28th and will listen with an open mind to all that is put forward. We will be happy to include any suggestion that will help the game nationally, into this development plan.

It is important to note Ladies and Gentlemen, that the TTFF, as part of it's development initiatives, hosted training and licensing of 217 coaches for community work, in the last year. This means we have 217 new "D" and "C" licensed coaches available to communities and clubs nationwide.

We have also in the last year, qualified  scores of new referees through a series of training programmes initiated by the FIFA.

We plan to continue our referee development programmes well into 2012. The TTFF is grateful to the Ministry of Sport for it's very supportive role in reshaping a strong future for the sport in the country. We plan to continue to build on that relationship in the year ahead and beyond.

We have been swamped with calls about Mr. Jamal Shabazz. Mr. Shabazz is an employee of the TTFF in the capacity of Assistant director of women's football. The Guyana Federation approached the TTFF for Mr. Shabbazz's services on loan as Guyana's National team coach.

The TTFF released Mr. Shabazz, and today we congratulate him on an astounding job for Guyana. His loan to Guyana is now at an end and he is expected in the next few days to return to his post at the TTFF. Should he be requested again, the TTFF will have to then deal with this issue.

Women's football is getting better. There are considerable scholarship opportunities for our young women through football. We have a growing school's league and our national teams are developing well. Technical Director Even Pellerud has shaped a very good model, which we expect his charges will emulate.

We plan to host in Trinidad and Tobago at least one major women's event at the CONCACAF Level in 2012. We are happy that we have paid equal attention to our ladies team in recent times and will continue to give them the respect they deserve. I can confirm several of our National senior players are now holding degrees, and I urge the corporate sector to consider hiring our national players.

The final two matters  concern the marketing and events management for the TTFF. As you are aware, we appointed All Sport, with the blessings of the Ministry of sport, to handle our marketing and events management. This experiment has worked well, with the TTFF meeting  every obligation since August 1st. Our events and National Teams have all been taken care of.

Mr Harford will later on provide you with the details. The TTFF plans to continue it's association with All Sport , with greater emphasis on the marketing of the game. One of our ambitions is to have a better structure at the highest level of club football in the country.

The TTFF will initiate discussions with the two major leagues in the country, the TT Pro League and The National Super League to explore the possibility on a single two division National League with a premier and championship division hosting 10 teams each.

Should all the stakeholders agree, we would like to see the new Marketing arm of the TTFF ensure proper commercial opportunities are explored, thus giving national football a better profile. We expect this thrust to extend to the women's game as well.

Finally, I would like to make a statement on Mr. Jack Warner. It is no secret Mr. Warner has been the most influential, larger than life figure in National Football for decades. It would be less than sensible to  say in many cases the TTFF allowed Mr. Warner the luxury of making decisions on our behalf.

However recent events have rendered Mr. Warner ineligible for national football duty. The TTFF respects the decisions made between Mr. Warner and the FIFA  and I am advising the national community today that as of August 2011 Austin Jack Warner is no longer a part of the TTFF and has not been an influence on the management of the organization.

There are some areas of his involvement with us that are being addressed, but I state unequivocally the TTFF has completely severed ties with him. We thank Mr. Warner for sharing over the years, his wisdom and experience and we wish him every success in the future as he takes the country forward in another capacity."

Now they get a decent friendly  :rotfl:

These people running the TTFF are total clowns!!

Now that we've been knocked out of World Cup qualifying they decide to arrange a decent friendly!  ::)
Ah doh know who they trying to fool yes! Is this an effort by Watson and that lot to pretend they organised and care about our football so that they can be officially elected into office once elections are called?

Plus I won't be surprised if that friendly doesn't even come off like most of our decent friendlies that have been arranged in the recent past! I note this friendly is yet to be confirmed so all this could be just another PR exercise (red-herring) for damage control and to try to make them look professional!

Another thing that TTFF Financial Statement is a real joke!! CLICK HERE to view TTFF financial statement (http://ttffonline.com/home/latest-news/mens-senior-team/275-financial-statement.html)
I could make up something more convincing than that within 10mins.
Is that an attempt by the TTFF to pretend that they are now transparent and accountable for money coming in to them from government etc and money being spent?  ???

I think that does not even get the pass mark as a Financial Summary much less as a Financial Statement!

They need to show clearly what is coming in and what is going out with dates and all itemised if that is meant to be a Financial Statement!
Also I don't see any payments towards the 2006 World Cup players as ordered by the court on that so-called Financial Statement! Has Jack or Oliver paid the players so far from their own personal accounts?

At any rate these people are real jokers and I can no longer take them seriously on any matter regards the development of our football!!
They have FAILED once again and trying desperately to look acceptable so they can carry on in office!!

My T&T people if we love ourselves then we can no longer endure these folks who have been blood-sucking our football! The Regional Clubs need to wake up and kick these people out as you are the main ones responsible for putting them there!!

If these people continue at the helm of the TTFF much longer then T&T football will soon be completely dead and we will be struggling to beat the likes of Montserrat!

The issue is not if we get a good friendly or not. The issue is not if they publish a proper financial statement or not. The issue is not if they keep Pfister or not, or hire a technical director or not. The issue is whether or not the anti-democratic, parasitical, clique that runs the TTFF should be allowed to continue on its merry way. The animal will not change its nature - regardless of the face it will now attempt to present to a public that is FED UP with TTFF incompetence and autocratic rule. THIS is the issue. Give them a few weeks and you will see.

So, we have an international friendly in January against a team ranked 1 place above us (http://www.fifa.com/associations/association=fin/index.html) and the national team coach is going on vacation until Dec. 31? And somewhere in there they going to review the national program and see whether or not to keep said coach given that the Minister of Sport has already said he's not paying that salary.

Sound like same sh*t different day to me.

Breds for yrs ive been saying this about my ppl. and 25 yrs ago i decided that i had it up to my scalp with the nonchalant can't be arsed disposition of my ppl that lead me to feel that i couldn't stay another day on that island!

my last yr on that island had be going mad with disgust. :frustrated: there was no political, economic, or social consciousness to be found amongst the masses, especially amongst the low income ppl. back then fellas was on their selves alone, and you could smell the decay seeping into the society slowly but surely.

sometimes i would sit and think to my self, "how the hell did this happen" how the hell was it even possible when trinibagonians in their inception were ah very social and politically conscious ppl? did eric williams used some method in an attempt to cripple and pacify the masses in order to keep them from raising up against his regime ever again?

in colonial times, trinidadians were very vocal and active in their dissatisfaction of the policies and methods of the crown, and if you go back in the archives of T&T's history you would see clear evidence of that. starting with the camboule riots, the hussay/ hussien riots, the labor movement, the independence movement, the black power uprising and the black power movement.

IMO what we're witnessing today is ah direct result of the pacification of the ppl by the eric williams regime, where ppl were given the mind set that they have overcame and the struggle has ended in every facet of the society.

i remember back then when sports was the drug of choice, the savannah, king george the fifth park, PSA, skinner's park, the veladrome, mahika, and the oval were always packed with ppl who came to watch their teams mash up their opponents, now today it's the opposite, these places that staged so many exciting nailbiting games are now empty and desolate, today they are packing zen and arapita ave to watch each other mash up their livers instead.

this my friend is ah crying shame.

Ah taking bets, we will end up not playing Finland.

Who say Anton Corneal will be made coach, wait and see, allyuh want local coach, if Anton get in power real players will suffer and he takes no blame for failure and he love de kick and hope long balls.... T&T natural and successful short passing game will be a thing of de past with Anton there.

You cant expect different if we doing the same thing over and over.

TTFF outline plans for football revival
By STEPHON NICHOLAS Friday, November 18 2011

FOLLOWING the disappointing end to the 2014 World Cup campaign, the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) Acting president, Lennox Watson, outlined a detailed programme for the revival of the national team.

In his first public address since taking over from his predecessor Oliver Camps who resigned, Watson commented on TT’s way forward as well as reflected on the failed World Cup campaign.

“Our plan is to now use a group of players who can serve us over the next five years and work towards building a national team capable of not just qualifying for a World Cup finals, but of playing with sustained excellence,” Watson said. The TTFF boss is looking to the national Under-23 team to inject fresh blood into the “Soca Warriors” as they seek to rebuild for the future.

“Our national Under-23s are a good place to start, but there are some senior players who are young and full of potential. We will integrate them into a national outfit of which we can be proud. We know there will be challenges, but we are prepared to work towards a set of goals that will have us ready for the ultimate challenge of a World Cup final place in 2018. Of course, we must also regain Caribbean supremacy and claim a place at the next Gold Cup (in 2013).

Watson did not shirk responsibility for TT’s lack of practice matches heading into their first qualifier against Bermuda on September 2.

He noted that from now, the “Warriors” will play at least seven international matches each year along with participation in regional competitions. TT’s first international will be a game against Finland in January at home.

Watson lamented the TTFF’s financial woes leading up to the commencement of their Road to Brazil campaign.

TT did not play a single match in eight months with their first and only warm-up prior to their match against Bermuda coming less than two weeks before. “We at the TTFF are aware of the criticisms being levelled, some of them are justified, chief among them the fact that the national team was inactive for eight months. The TTFF was very short on resources, and during that period, funding was a challenge. Our failure to make it to the Gold Cup also contributed to our team’s lack of sharpness,” he explained.

Watson refused to blame coach Otto Pfister for TT’s World Cup exit and also blasted those who are now criticising the appointment of the German. “It is difficult to now understand criticism of Pfister coming from some of those who selected him in the first place. Senior player Chris Birchall was frank about our failure to qualify. He said openly, it is not the coach, it is not the TTFF, it is simply the players who must shoulder the blame,” he declared.

Meanwhile, Watson says no decision will be made on Pfister who is currently on leave until December 31. His contract, which ends next month, will be reviewed and the TTFF will decide on whether to renew. In the interim, Assistant coach, Anton Corneal will be in charge of the local squad.

T&TFF to review senior staff
Published: Fri, 2011-11-18 21:39
Nigel Simon

Soca Warriors coach Otto Pfister is being sought after by no fewer than four countries after failing to get T&T past the second round of the Concacaf qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. This, even after T&T Football Federation, acting president Lennox Watson, said yesterday no decision had been made regarding the immediate future of German and his technical staff which includes, local assistant coaches, Anton Corneal and Huston Charles, both former national players. Watson speaking at a press conference at the Oval yesterday said the future of the 73-year-old Pfister and his senior technical staff contracts will come to an end in December and these contracts will be reviewed and a team put in place moving forward.”
“Coach Pfister has proceeded on his leave until December 31 and an announcement with regards to his future will be made before the end of the year while we also intend to fill the vacant post of the Technical Director of the T&TFF.

Concerning the Soca Warriors failed campaigned under Pfister, Watson admitted the federation like all of T&T was disappointed with the failure to advance to the next phase of qualification. He, however stated the federation was not alone responsible for the hiring of Pfister who has also come in for heavy criticism and pointed out that the federation’s executive committee simply adhered to a recommendation of the  screening committee which included Dr Iva Gloudon, Dr Alvin Henderson, former Technical Director Keith Look Loy and ex-national player, Marlon Morris and found it difficult to now understand criticism of the coach (Pfister) coming from some of those said persons. Looking ahead Watson said the plan of the T&TFF is to use a group of players who can serve  T&T over the next five years and work towards building a team capable of not just qualifying for a World Cup Finals, and the current Under-23 squad is a good place to start.

At the same time its understood that Pfister, who was hired by the T&TFF in March to guide the team to Brazil following the sacking of former coach and T&T captain, Russell Latapy has already been ear-marked by a few countries to take charge of their national teams.

They include the already eliminated from Brazil qualification United Arab Emirates (Asia), Lithuania (Europe), Gambia (Africa) and Papa New Guinea (Oceania), the last three all of which are still involved in World Cup 2014 qualifiers. It is stated Pfister became a wanted man immediately following the Soca Warriors 2-1 loss in Guyana on Friday, their penultimate second round Group B qualifier which marked the end of the “Road to Brazil”. Asked if he had spoken to Pfister since the team’s 2-0 win in Tuesday’s match at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo in its final qualifier, Watson replied, “No I have not spoken with any member of the technical staff as coach Pfister is currently on leave out of the country. Looking ahead to the senior team’s warm-up match against the national Olympic (Under-23) squad at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet today from 5 pm, Watson said the remainder of the coaching staff led by assistant coaches, Anton Corneal and Hutson Charles will take charge of the team.

Now they get a decent friendly  :rotfl:

I will believe it only when the Finnish team come out to warm up at the Haseley. Before then, I will not be commenting on it.

My sentiments exactly! How many times over the last five years have we heard about International friendlies and all we could get was India! i will believe it only when the teams line up and the referee blow the whistle to start the game!

I'm sorry, I want a foreign coach. Or a local with international experience. even a Jamaican would do... someone from a country where people serious about national pride.

An outside coach cannot change our culture in regards to national pride!
That begins in T&T in the households with parents teaching their children, in the schools with teachers instilling it in their pupils and in the local media (radio, TV, newspapers, etc) regards promoting and having pride in what is ours!

But nothing annoys me more than Trinidadians going on and on about how we need a local coach. Has a local coach ever taken us to the world cup? I care about experience and know how.

What has Anton Corneal EVER done to warrant him being Senior Men's National Coach.

Can someone answer this question.

WtF, for crying out loud , check this people i wonder who  really buying the  :cursing: garbage ttff trying to sell football fans and supporters .. those  slackers @ttff really think they are fooling .???????  here is why all each and everyone at ttff  should be given no other ultimtum but to resign... for 2 consecative goldcups , the warriors could not qualify... that's glaring enough for even a drunk to see and take notice, the signs were imminent , no  regular active  football for the senior team.  none of them cared a damn thing those buggers at the ttff , now the campaign for world cup qualifying hit the skids ,. its over now!!! remember  prior to the said world cup qualifying . funds were not available according to them staggering fools ,   .... now at the recent press conference by  mr lennoa watson and company.....all man looking to save the backsides now  .... here comes the friendlies  beginnng with finland ,,,,,,,are we serious ????? suddenly here comes the friendlies !!  and  supposedly 6 to 7 friendlies schedhule for next year  yuh see themm people at the ttff they must all go!!!! who de a..ss they believe buying that. but then again  some people  like is so .. ah know i for one want all of then to go  , ..  ah vex oui....no fakking alternative should be given them but resign all man jack ..    go go go let new heads  with progressive  ideas come forth..

Maybe Puma!!!!

We should be so lucky... Puma is the hottest kit out there right now in my opinion.

As for the friendly... people being a bit harsh.  Any agreement to play a game is a two-way street and I think we can all agree that for the past several years few teams wanted to waste their time with us.  If as Watson say, "the Finlan FA requested the friendly" then we should be rejoicing that finally there will be a quality friendly opponent.  Other than that, I agree... same old shit.

Hear nuh man....is like dem people does be deliberately trying to frustrate people with utter stupidity. I honestly doh think the debths of this nonsense exists anywhere else in the world.

Frustrating man...

An Invitation to a Psuedo Press Conference Starring:

Lennox Watson as Watson
With special advise...err...guest Jackarse as Mr. Holmes

Watson to Holmes: "By heavens, Holmes, I believe that they are not really after us. No one showed up to protest our existence".
Holmes to Watson: "No, it's not quite so bad as that, my dear Watson. I have pre-comatosed most of the would be rebel protesters. It's the unofficial force—the revolutionary irregulars you have to worry about. Currently, that force is leaderless".
Watson to Holmes: "I have extended invitations to press reporters I can manipulate and who will not ask probing questions I cannot answer".
Holmes to Watson: "You have learned well over the years. Good".
Watson to Holmes: "You were right Holmes. It worked out very well. The people bought it hook, line, and sinker. Excellent".
Holmes to Watson: "Elementary, my dear Watson. From your viewpoint as President, you will have the advantage of knowing their habits and weaknesses. You know my methods, Watson. How often have I said to when you have eliminated the opposition whatever remains must be the truth".

Trying to figure this out. there is no international FIFA date in January, so how do they get to bring a "full strength" team as the original article claimed. Then again, most teams in europe will be on a winter break around then, so i guess that explains it.

If Finland is taking its national team half way around the world to play international teams, i suspect they might want to get some other games in as well. wouldnt be surprised if the JFF also announces a game against them over coming weeks (JFF normally doesnt announmce games until both Federations have signed)

Anton will put a team together a week before the game-( If it does come off) and it will be the same script as in ghosts of past years.
A serious federation would start scouting foreign based  of a certain age group as the pool for the Digicel and Gold Cup .
Maybe they think the present Olympic team is the way forward.
