All Bahraini league matches put on hold to help national team prepare
Asian Football Confederation
The Bahrain Football Association has postponed all first and second division league matches until further notice to enable the national team to prepare for their upcoming two-legged World Cup playoff against Trinidad and Tobago on November 12 and four days later.
Only two rounds have been completed in the premier league so far with Al Muharraq and Al Rifa leading the standings.
The Qatar FA has lent a helping hand to Bahrain, who have never qualified earlier for the World Cup, by agreeing to release all the Bahraini stars who play in the Qatar League for this period. At least seven Bahrainis ply their trade in Qatar and their availability will be a big boost to coach Luka Peruzovic while preparing for the playoff.
Bahrain defeated Uzbekistan in the Asian zone playoff to clinch a spot in the final playoff against Trinidad and Tobago, who finished fourth in the CONCACAF region.
