Reds capture Sporting's Nani

United completed a double swoop on Wednesday night with the announcement that the Reds have agreed a deal in principle to sign Sporting Lisbon's highly-rated winger Nani.

The 20-year-old has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and his capture adds to the signing of 19-year-old Brazilian midfielder Anderson from FC Porto.

A club statement confirmed: "Manchester United is delighted to announce it has agreed terms in principle with Sporting Lisbon for the purchase of the registration of Nani.

"Personal terms have been agreed and a formal announcement will take place once the necessary administrative procedures, including a medical have been completed."

Manchester United have agreed "in principle" deals to sign Anderson from FC Porto and Nani from Sporting Lisbon.

The Premiership champions are set to make 19-year-old Brazilian Anderson and 20-year-old Portuguese winger Nani their first signings of the summer.

"Terms are agreed with both players and an announcement will take place once a medical and other procedures are done," said a statement on United's website.

United are also on the brink of signing Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich.

This is absolutely brilliant news for United

MU

Anderson has been named in Brazil coach Dunga's squad for the Copa America in Venezuela next month, but not Friday's friendly with England at Wembley.

He joined Porto from Gremio in December 2005 and played against United in a pre-season friendly last August at the Amsterdam Tournament.

Nani had also been linked with a move to Tottenham, but recently said he would only leave Portugal to play for a club like United.

Nani has been compared to his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo in his homeland, with pace and trickery similiar to that of the Footballer of the Year.

He has played five times for Portugal, scoring once in the process.

EDIT:

Man Utd seal deal for Hargreaves
Owen Hargreaves
Manchester United have targeted Hargreaves for a year
Manchester United have confirmed that England midfielder Owen Hargreaves will join them from Bayern Munich on 1 July.

United have not yet disclosed the fee for the 26-year-old but it is believed to be in the region of £17m.

Hargreaves has agreed personal terms and passed a medical so now he only has to officially put pen to paper on what is expected to be a five-year deal.

"Owen will formally sign his contract when he returns from a holiday at the end of June," read a United statement.

Squad selector: Where would Hargreaves fit into your United XI?

Hargreaves, who is taking a family break in his native Canada, has been a long-time target for United.

United chief executive David Gill told MUTV: "It is no secret that we tried to get Owen last summer. We tried again in January but to no avail.

"Thankfully, we have managed to secure him now and we are delighted with that.

606: DEBATE
Now we're ready to attack on four fronts

RR

"It is good business for us, good business for Bayern Munich and good business for Owen. He is a great signing."

Hargreaves enjoyed an illustrious 10 seasons at Bayern, winning six league titles and the 2001 Champions League.

But his final season was plagued by injury and ended with Bayern finishing fourth in the Bundesliga, thereby missing out on Champions League qualification.

Hargreaves had a four-month lay-off at the start of the campaign because of a broken leg and went on to play in only nine league games.

He will also miss England's matches against Brazil and Estonia in June because of a knee problem.

The announcement of Hargreaves' arrival at Old Trafford comes less than 24 hours after it was revealed that United had agreed "in principle" to sign Brazilian midfielder Anderson, 19, from FC Porto and Portuguese winger Nani, 20, from Sporting Lisbon.

The deal for the duo could amount to a total of £30m.

And Gill hinted that could be the end of the club's summer signings, saying: "We will see what happens over the next two or three months but by and large that will be the major element of our business.

"If a player comes up that Sir Alex is convinced will make us better, I am sure we will find the funds but that is a major bit of business we have done this week."

The news keeps getting better and better

We sealed the deal for Nani!! :beermug: :beermug:

Manchester United have agreed deals to sign Sporting Lisbon's Nani and Porto starlet Anderson.

The midfield duo are regarded as two of the best young talents in Europe and they have been chased by several of Europe's top clubs.

However, United have stolen a march on their rivals by luring the pair to Old Trafford.

United chief executive David Gill and assistant manager Carlos Queiroz flew to Lisbon on Wednesday to hold talks with Sporting regarding Portuguese international Nani and they have quickly agreed a move for the exciting winger.

Nani is highly-rated in Portugal and has been likened to current United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Tottenham have been credited with an interest in Nani, but United have won the race for his signature.

Brazilian ace Anderson has been widely dubbed 'the new Ronaldinho'.

Anderson has enjoyed a successful season with Porto, helping them win the Portuguese championship.

The 19-year-old has attracted the interest of a host of clubs including Chelsea and Barcelona, but United have agreed an undisclosed fee with Porto for the exciting midfielder.

Both players have agreed personal terms with United and they are due to have a medicals at the club in the near future.

A United statement read: ""Manchester United is delighted to announce it has agreed terms in principle with FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon for the purchase of the registrations of Anderson and Nani.

"Personal terms have been agreed and a formal announcement will take place once the necessary administrative procedures, including medicals, have been completed."

Should the duo tie up the minor details of the moves they will become United's first signings of the summer.

Thsi is good news.

Actually more impressed with the Anderson signing than Nani as it is probably a better bargain and it

It is good to see the club doing business outside the tabloids and without a summer-long "Club wants outrageous fee for striker from United" saga.

Nani just signed a new deal so he couldn't be cheap.

A good striker now and they in business.
THE WARRIORS WILL NOT BE DENIED.

I feel we're in business now. After we won the championship I said we needed a wide player, a striker and possibly a young right back. I was surprised to hear that Anderson has been signed, but thats good-possibly a scholes successor. Now we need a top quality striker, preferably with some pace and skill. Haven't seen Huntelaar play as yet, Etoo maybe like Sheva if we signed him. No more talk of Torres anymore it seems, although I know hes good. Berbatov? If spurs let us have him for £10-15million that would be a good deal, anything more and its a bit of rip-off.

United already has Ben Foster.

That is a good set of money.

I wondering now about some of the "truths" that people put forward recently.

The Glazers are not happy with things at United...why give a manager so much money?
Ferguson doesn't like non-english players (Kanchelskis, Schmeichel, Cantona, Yorke etc.)
United cannot attract good players from Europe
United does not get good players young, only after they make their name already....anybody believe that we have seen the best of Anderson or Nani yet?

And here are some that we will be hearing by Christmas

If they do well:
Anderson and Nani over-rated and they liket o dive and fall down too much

If they take time to settle:
Ferguson and United purging Anderson and Nani, they should have gone to Spain or Italy or Arsenal or Chelsea. Ferguson is not good with non-English and/or young players.
THE WARRIORS WILL NOT BE DENIED.

JDB u can never stop men from tlking shyt....i happen to really admire both palyers and tink its more than a coop for man u but a sweep of some sorts. (provided they adapt well to england like cristiano).........nani will be the succesor to giggs on the left side and anderson is a capable AM/F...so i look to see him do the work probably in the scholes role (he can fit in right behind the forwards ) or even uptop....

If Small mag get he wish and Hunterlaar comes then i will be very much interested in seeing what the rest of the WORLD not just premiership can  conjure up as far as big signings.

but i just also here malouda leaving lyon maybe arsenal or chelsea have the chance to scoop that one too

good signings, but these young skillful players will still have to adapt to the EPL wildman brand.. The football there will be like nothing they've seen before, and if they dont toughen up they will fall by the wayside...

experience has shown skill counts for minimum in that league.. EPL full of non-skilled men who will nullify your game.. it not easy to bounce up a robbie savage or ben thatcher on a sunday...

i hope fergie prepare them for that..

From BBC Sport (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/6707995.stm)

Man Utd seal deal for Hargreaves

Manchester United have targeted Hargreaves for a year
Manchester United have confirmed that England midfielder Owen Hargreaves will join them from Bayern Munich on 1 July.

United have not yet disclosed the fee for the 26-year-old but it is believed to be in the region of £17m.

Hargreaves has agreed personal terms and passed a medical so now he only has to officially put pen to paper on what is expected to be a five-year deal.

"Owen will formally sign his contract when he returns from a holiday at the end of June," read a United statement.

Hargreaves, who is taking a family break in his native Canada, has been a long-time target for United.

The Premiership champions failed with bids to sign him last summer and in January.

He enjoyed an illustrious 10 seasons at Bayern, winning six league titles and the 2001 Champions League.

OH yes, finally some more Portugese blood in the side.... now just get rid of Heinze...

I know Anderson from Grêmio and the U-17 team, I know nothing about Nani's career, but from what I have seen it looks like speed is the order of the day... I love the direction Fergie is going...

Now just get rid of the Argentinian... and sign Marcelo or Alex Silva!
