TTFF make big changes to operations
By Kern Ramlochan Sports Editor Saturday, August 13 2011

KEY changes were made to improve the transparency and governance of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF).

All Sports Promotions will now control the marketing and event management for the TTFF’s World Cup and friendly matches while an Authorisation Committee was appointed to manage the finances of the organisation.

These changes were announced at a press conference held at Jaffa Restaurant, Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, yesterday.

Attending were TTFF president Oliver Camps, Sports Minister Anil Roberts, Queen’s Park president Bruce Aanensen, “Soca Warriors” coach Otto Pfister, All Sport Promotions director Anthony Harford and Temptation Limited representative Faizal Khan.

The Authorisation Committee will be chaired by a member from All Sports Promotion and will consist of representatives from the TTFF, Ministry of Sport and three independent members.

Special advisor to the Minister of Sport Caryl Kellar has been appointed as the TTFF’s representative. General manager, corporate banking of Republic Bank Ian De Souza has been named one of the independent members. The other positions on the Authorisation Committee are yet to be decided.

The “Soca Warriors” will play India in their first friendly under coach Pfister on August 21 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, from 5 pm.

TT will be using the match as preparation for the start of their World Cup qualifying campaign against Bermuda here on September 2, followed by an away match against Barbados four days later. They well play away to Bermuda on October 7, and two days later TT will host Barbados and then close the first round of qualification away to Guyana on November 11.

TTFF boss Camps paid tribute to former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner for his contribution to football and noted that his absence has forced the changes to the Federation.

“Mr Warner has stepped down from his FIFA portfolios and as such, he is no longer the special advisor to the federation or affiliated with the TTFF in any capacity. On behalf of the TTFF and indeed the national community, I thank Jack Warner for his untiring efforts over the years and wish him continued success as he pursues his goal of bettering lives through his ministerial work,” said Camps yesterday.

He added, “In light of this development, the TTFF has agreed to appoint the firm of All Sport to now handle the marketing and event management of the TTFF’s programme.”

All Sport Director, Harford revealed that they suggested the idea of the Authorisation Committee.

“There was an outcry from the public and the Ministry of Sport so we felt we had to do things in a different way and we have agreed to act that way,” said Harford yesterday. He explained that the Authorisation Committee will account accurately for the finances of the TTFF.

“We have also committed ourselves to issuing a statement publicly after every game Trinidad and Tobago play taking into consideration how much money was taken in at the gate, how much money was given in sponsorship.

“Positives and negatives in the difference which will be published in the daily newspapers.

“At the end of every month sponsors and Government will be given an update as to the state of affairs of the accounts, how the money is being spent, on whom and why. This is our commitment initially to the end of 2011,” said Harford.

As a result of the TTFF’s new direction bmobile and Carib have pledged their sponsorship for the World Cup qualifying campaign with more sponsors expected to sign on.

Sports Minister Roberts welcomed the appointment of the Authorisation Committee and pending Cabinet’s approval expects to give the TTFF between $10 million to $14 million for their qualifying campaign per year.

“We must move forward with transparency, accountability and value for money..and to move so swiftly to set up this authorising committee which I can tell you I have 100 percent faith and belief in the people, their resumes who are in charge of the funds for Brazil 2014 that all funding necessary that is documented will be given to the authorising committee and they are ready to start our campaign towards Brazil 2014,” said Roberts.

He explained, “The number one signal had to come from the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and it is here now...loud and clear that Brazil 2014 is a national priority and we shall be giving funding. All we asked for was accountability and progress.”

If the “Soca Warriors” are knocked out during qualifying the Sports Minister explained that the funding will go into the developmental level.

He added that there will be no charges for the national team to use facilities for preparation or when they host matches.

“The stadium belongs to the people of Trinidad and Tobago and we will not be charging sports for utilising the facilities.” said Roberts.
Ah say it, how ah see it
