I have a press release account with the CMC and I contacted flex to find out if he wanted this story to put up but I havent heard from him as yet so I will post it.......... administrators feel free to edit as need be........
Jack Warner, the Trinidad & Tobago Football Federation's special advisor, believes the Soca Warriors can qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa once key stakeholders build on the current momentum.
"If we pick up this momentum and run with it, if we take the plan given by [head coach] Wim [Rijsbergen] and the coaches and implement it quickly, there is no way we cannot qualify for 2010," Warner said this week.
"I guarantee now that if the government is serious, particularly the Minister of Sports (Roger Boynes) and I think he is, and they pick up this plan and run with it, we shall be in Johannesburg without even having to have a playoff."
T&T became only the second English-speaking Caribbean team to compete in the FIFA World Cup recently when they turned out for the massive showpiece in Germany eventually won by Italy.
Leo Beenhakker, who took over as head coach during the CONCACAF final round qualifiers and ensured the team's success, subsequently resigned his position to take up a similar post with the Poland national team.
He was subsequently replaced by fellow Dutchman and former assistant coach Wim Rijsbergen.
Warner, who was instrumental in securing Beenhakker as head coach, revealed that one of the motivating factors behind the Dutch national's move away from T&T was the amount of air travel involved.
"He did say to me he is 64 years old and that travel for him was not as easy as it could have been and that's why he refused to accept Australia's offer and even the US offer as well," the FIFA vice-president said.
"He said that he was coaching Poland who asked him to assist them in qualifying for the Euro championships 2008. His contract should run for two years and in that period he believes that health willing and his strength and so on, that he will be able to come back afterward and assist Wim."
