De Leon in ‘Champion of the Decades’
T&T Guardian

Which national football team during the past decades was the best? Although almost all of the players have past their best, they will try to prove this point on Sunday when former national players compete to be “Champion of the Decades” at Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, from noon. Turning out for the showdown will be midfielder Leroy de Leon, whom many has dubbed the best footballer ever to grace the fields in T&T.

Many of the infamous “Strike Squad” players will also be on show, including captain Clayton Morris, Leonson Lewis, Marlon Morris, Dexter Francis, Floyd Lawrence, Philbert Jones, Marvin Faustin, Brian Williams, Hutson Charles, Kerry Jameson and Earl Carter. Former national coach, Russell Latapy and Dwight Yorke along with Anthony Rougier, Otis Whitley, Densil Theobald, Cyd Gray, Brent Sancho, Anthony Wolfe, Dennis Lawrence, Stern John and Clayton Ince are expected in the “Soca Warriors” line-up.

Several of the top players who represented T&T in the match against Haiti in 1973, when just missing out on qualification to the World Cup are expected to turn out. They include captain Selwyn Murren, Steve David, Warren Archibald, Kelvin Barclay, Raymond Roberts, Jan Steadman, Lawrence Rondon, Selris Figaro, Wilfred Cave, Leo Brewster, George Romano and Winston Phillips. Players are to contact Steve David (788-6955) or Clayton Morris (756-5754).
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

This is not about winning or loosing,it's about reminising and having a good time,it's time we enjoy the game without the kind of pressure that comes along with the modern day game,JW not involved,TTFF can't sanction anything,no problem for the stadium, players select themselves,no 06 players eh making those teams etc we talking about free Football, back to the good old days, see the real master for free.

Glory days of SOUTH teams!!!!! St. Benedict's  and North South clashes ........ football was a passion ; The ole Glory days of TnT football. Yuh think Grenada could have even challenge we back then or Guyana for that matter; Not even the 'ganja Boyz' would have stood a chance.
