I cannot see Rogers wanting to deal with that --- collect the $70 mil for him and get 2 strikers.... Sturridge good for 20 goals, Sterling good for 10 -- sign 2 strikers who between dem scoring 20.......dat is 4 players - 50 goals.  We will get another 15 from the midfield and 5 from the back ...... we good to go.

Saints into Big 5 final
Green Machine lose for the first time this season...
By Ian Prescott (Express).

St Augustine Secondary boys lost their first match of the season but only beaten 6-5 on sudden-death penalty kicks.

This, after yesterday’s BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) “Big Five” semi-final match-up against St Mary’s College ended in a 0-0 draw yesterday evening at Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.

Yesterday’s semi was tame by any standard. The first half ended without any of the goals promised by “Saints” coach Jason Edwards a day earlier, and without much action, as play took place mainly in the middle of the park.

However, the North champions St Mary’s could still boast of having the two best chances of the half, both turned wide by striker Chinua Bernard in quick succession, half hour into the match. St Augustine keeper Romario Romain also had a nervous situation just before the half ended when taking a looping ball just before it entered his goal.

St Augustine offered little going forward in the first half, but could have been ahead early when a St Mary’s college defender stuck out a leg and almost turned the ball past’ keeper Christian Attong.

Facing a better organised team, St Augustine changed tactics and began looking better in the second half. The Green Machine defended in numbers and also had solid work from centre-back Makesi Quashie.

They also tried to catch the Saint up field when counter attacking with pace, and using the speed of national youth players Aikim Andrews and Akeem Garcia.

St Augustine almost had something to shout about in the 65th when striker Ricardo John isolated himself with keeper Attong by stealing the ball, when one of the Saint players over indulged.

John attempted to go around Attong, but the very capable Saint keeper did remarkably well to grab the ball. The very tall John again found himself racing towards Attong when the ball was kicked long into the CIC half, but Attong got to there first.

Well done "Saints"!!!
By the way -- is anyone alarmed at how poorly written this article from Prescott is?....Very difficult to read - Good Lord!  Come nah man Prescott, take yuh time and use your words properly.  Steups.

They held U-15 screening in Tobago last Saturday. I was told that the person who coordinated it was Mr. Lewis from T'dad. I suppose it could be Leonson. Reach out to Fuentes, he should have their schedule.

Thanks -- good to know that they only recently held screening.  Best we could do at this point (since we do not own a private jet), is to send whatever videos we have and see what happens.

At least they will have our contact info etc....even if it ends up being for the next round of U17 players.

My initial inqury went to Mr. Fuentes....no response.

KND thanks bro -- Someone link me on the IM, so I am trying to organize now - sending video clip of son all now.

That would be an upgrade in my opinion - to make this info accessible or for folks to send video links of perspective players.  Nuff youths out here that would be good for the cause.

Should not have to "hunt" down this information.  But say wha....give thanks for this forum.

I have emailed the TTFA multiple times and cannot see or get info for screening sessions for National youth teams.

We are based in Virginia and my 14yr old son is interested in playing for T&T .... we are hoping that there are screening sessions scheduled around the school calendar that will allow him to travel down and participate in the selection process.

Anybody have insight on where we could get that info?

No scene pardna ... just doh feel the "fight down ting", just because ATB "only" has a hundred posts.

That is the benefit of this forum, an avenue for us all to "feel like" we know a thing or 2 about this beautiful game.  Have to remember, this is our NATIONAL team.. which is and should be our most criticized team, because expectations should be higher.

The new coach, new players excuse can only work to a point....these are professional players that are not doing things that youth players (at least) try routinely.  We really expect Hart to teach men how to move in and create triangles on the field?....that the man in possession must always have at least 3 passing options?....that we compress our shape defensively, and expand our shape when we have possession?.... a "coach" is supposed to teach this big hard back men that????????

It is impossible that Hart, Beenie and even Theobald -- don't see that he is pulling stones in the midfield. I believe that they do not have the Hart to bench the team captain.

I have said before, that IF he NEEDS to be on the field ...put him out wide .. in a  4 2 3 1 system - he is not a traditional winger, so you "tuck him" in and let the outside back (eg. Hoyte) provide the width and get down the wing.  This would allow Theobald to play in more space AND help facilitate possession, rather him lose the ball from a wider position, than in the middle of the park.

We cannot afford to have LABORERS on the field, especially "down the spine" of the system.

We would in effect be "hiding" him out wide, while honoring the armband.  Win-win ... IF he NEEDS to be on the field.

Just cool, I'm not disagreeing with your assessment of the player really. He is a limited player. Sometimes a clever coach can make the most of the one thing a guy can do in the right match. That's all.

Don't do it Lasana -- JC is just "on one" ... known for chainin up people with his "passionate" posts.   Just let him simmer and he will "boil down".

I do agree with his assessment to a degree, that Carter is not at the international level...may do well in ProLeague, but given the class that we have seen historically from our past wingers (L.Lewis, Wise, Nixon, Eve, Edwards etc) - Carter is not up to par.

After watching TNT vs Haiti I had to post this song in tribute to the national team, the ship has sunk. That was by far the worst performance to date and a very shameful performance.

I am sure after the 2-2 draw with El Salvador many bandwagonist came back in support of the soccer team but after last night's performance the line was drawn.

I love my soccer but Trinidad's soccer is just not attractive to watch, plain awful at times. I wonder if we play Tahiti who will win.

Carlos is meh boy and bleeder are two senior players but their time is up. The sad thing is that there are no players who can replace them with their experience. This is a shame.

How do you play two attackers who are so similar and stationary, there was no one to put the defenders under any pressure by making runs off the ball.

There was no creativity or imagination, not just in the last third, the whole pitch for TNT. I saw the El Salvador/Guatemala game and the creativity and imagination of the two teams were amazing, the midfielders would actually thread balls through knowing the attackers would be on the same page to make those runs, very nice indeed.

I have noticed that TNT players do not dribble anymore, even within the confines of team ball. This is shocking.

Our overall pace of game is too slow for elite soccer. As they is say in Trini - today for tomorrow.

I have not solutions for the team, just speechless. Where do we go next. How do we as a nation turn soccer around to get on the world's stage

Overall, F. The only way we can go is to fail forward

COSIGN.   One of the most sensible posts related to our brand of football.  The only team that T&T might be better than in this tournament is Belize.

Look at my "number of posts" and say what yuh want.... I know I have watched enough football to have an opinion --  ATB well said sah!

It is EXTREMELY hard to watch our NATIONAL team, play such vanilla football.  The lack of movement off the ball, no desire to win the ball back, the lack of trust between players and ultimately the lack of mental and physical fitness... is alarming especially for a NATIONAL team.

You telling me that can't find 2 wingers that could run at a outside back with pace?  .... or a striker that knows how to create space for himself, so that the ball can find him?

could go on and on but... STEUPSS

Maxg ... that 1st post? ... STEUPSS  (especially for ah "HERO" Warrior)

birchall is too slow...them fellas woulda race past he like they going down de bypass

but at least if he were playing the #6 position like Theobald he would have held his position
Cosign ... Bleeder looked lost at times - and had no impact on the game.  We cannot afford to have laborers in the midfield.  Hyland should be allowed to play in a more advanced role, which would rely on a having a CAPABLE holding mid, to sit infront of the back four and facilitate possession as well as disrupt what the other team is trying to do.

We might even be better served playing Bleeder out on the flank -- if he HAS to be on the field at all -- he would be out in more space and would help link with the forwards.  I know he is not an out and out winger, but he would have been a better option (in possession), than Carter (poor).  Bleeder could actually tuck in from the wider position and help out with possession in the attacking 3rd.

A 4-2-3-1 formation with Hyland and Birchall as the "2" - giving Hyland more attacking freedom ...with Me Mum sitting in front of the back 4 - and Daniel as the attacking mid, playing in right behind Jones ... would be the best adjustment.   Against the pace of Haiti, we must hold our defensive shape. We were not transitioning quickly enough, from offensive to defensive shape .....

Like Hart's post match comments....sounds like he knows what he is doing --- just needs to sort out what is the right personnel to get it done.

Hoping for the best Friday.

Wow.  :banginghead:
I am all for keeping things in perspective (1st game under new coach, very little prep time etc) but come on people ... leh we raise the expectations a little more nah?....that last night was BRILLIANT?

Trinidad speed of play, speed of thought and movement off the ball was poor.  This is international football people, and when compared to Haiti and Honduras, our level is well below both of those teams.  Haiti played with pace, were disciplined defensively by maintaining their shape and pressing the ball as Honduras tried to build it.

If we do not make the appropriate adjustments we are in for a proper washing in the next 2 games...Hyland was our best player last night in possession (he was poor tracking back defensively) as fitness seems to be an issue with this team,  as many players looked ROAST after 20 minutes -- which is why we were so stangnant.  How much MEANINGFUL possession did we keep?  Anybody could knock the ball side to side, when there is no pressure in the defensive half.

Any time El Salvador ran at the defense with any kind of pace, they were a threat to score, because they were afforded waaaaay to much room to play in midfield -- had it not been for some emergency defending, the post and a couple spectacular saves...the game would have finished 6 - 3.

I will say that nerves came into play, a lack of fitness and cohesion between new players/system coach were all factors --- but have no doubt about it...we must be better for the next game.  Some of these posts sound like people dont actually watch how football is played, or is it that our level has been so poor over these last 5 yrs that we will accept anything?

Next game: same back 4, Hyland, Birchall, Edwards, Roberts, Daniel in midfield, Jones up front .... need men that comfortable on the ball, understand DEFENSIVE SHAPE and have the work rate to compete at this level.

Come on people, this is the national team - expect more.

Bless.  :beermug:

Lifeisgood excellent post breds!

"What is more alarming to me, is the fact that our field players could not link 2 - 3 passes together!! What are we doing about that? ...these are NATIONAL team players, that cannot retain possession of the ball..which, in this "Barcelona" era -- looks bad and is hard on the eyes to say the least.  Better team won on the night, as the Panamanian players were more composed in possession and we able to create space and time for themselves.  TT were relying too much on "moments" of individual ability and less on collective/constructive team play."

I just highlighted that sentence cause somehow I feel what 'we' doing (or at least should be doing) is putting people in positions to get the youth them to be able to do that and more??

We simply need to DEMAND it of our players - find those that can retain possession and develop a system around them.  From U12 age, we should be identifying these types of players and incubating them, so that ball retention is in their DNA....imagine a squad with 3 Latapy's, 2 Anthony Sherwood's, a couple Nakhid's, a Yorke ... throw in a Jamerson for good measure --- and build around that.

Gone are the days where your central defenders only know 2 things (bruising and clearing) -- all 11 players on the field must be comfortable on the ball. PERIOD.  As I tell players that I am fortunate enough to coach - in this rounds you have to be a goal scorer, a ball winner, or a maestro....anything else is average.

If playing a squad of players that can retain possession means converting some natural midfielders to defenders, then so be it ---- do it at a young age, where they should be learning ALL the positions and functions on the field.   There should be no "specialists" until they reach 17, 18 ---every player should be EQUALLY capable in at least 2 positions.

That is my 2 cents ...

Bless.

Thank you for the kind posts.  I will leave you with this.
As far as the warning to critics, I will say this.  This is not my first rodeo.  I did not post as some emotional mother but as a former college player and coach who has a deep love for the game.  I would expect comments like this to be posted for players like Beckham and Messi for three reasons. 1) They are men  2) They are professionals 3) They are paid a large sum of money in return and its their job.
If we don't allow young players to make mistakes and crucify them when they do they will never learn.  We learn through our mistakes.  As far as the goal haunting him forever.  I assure you it will not.  Johan will process the mistake, learn from it and move on.  For ghosts will drag you to an early grave.  Johan has played for the US National Team.  He CHOSE to play for the T&T team.  It was not a decision he took lightly.  He knew he would be making a choice.  He wore the jersey with pride and left his heart on the field.  He loves his teammates and the coaching staff.  It has been a great experience for Johan.  As the Dynamo coaches said today, unlucky goal - looks like it took a bad bounce on the turf but a great performance.  He is young and will only continue to improve.  He works very hard and loves the game!  They are a great group of young men and we look forward to the next opportunity.  Never stop supporting the next generation of young players - for with positive coaching and fans - these boys will get there.  It's only a matter of time.  See you in 2 years......

 :applause:
I want to nominate this as one of the most sensible posts EVER - on this forum.  Great read.

Young Johan future is indeed bright, as he clearly has a solid core of people around him - that put his best interests first.  "Moms" your points are well articulated and spot on ...hats off.  We should all look forward to and support Johan and all our (committed) youth players, once the don the red, black and white.

If you watch the game, Johan continued to do an excellent job after the mistake -- other players would have self destructed under the spotlight.  On the play itself, he gambled a little..expecting a cross from that position and was just a half step too slow adjusting his feet to the shot.  Happens.   GK is a lonely position as your mistakes back there can have immediate effect.

What is more alarming to me, is the fact that our field players could not link 2 - 3 passes together!! TT were relying too much on "moments" of individual ability and less on collective/constructive team play.

But again, to keep things on perspective...these are young, amateur players that need our support - they must be saturated with information that will enhance their psychological, technical and tactical development .... which relys on being in a training environment that is conducive to learning.

When I read some of the interviews from the training/technical staff (including the senior staff) ... their points are poorly articulated and not consistent with what you should expect from a "teacher/instructor" .... so they must be evaluated as well.

Maybe in order to pry Johan away from the US setup .... we should offer Michelle a role with our technical staff?  From the looks and sound of it  --- would not be a bad package deal.

Cheers.

With all due respect, this is not what i meant by being unfit for service, and BTW, what does him being a muslim have to do with getting the job done right??

i recall "noor Hassanali" being a muslim and holding one of the highest offices in T&T politics, so what's your point?

Rooney is playing exceptionally well...

All this credit he gets for tracking back and defending, getting stuck in and for such a high work rate... The form he showing now is a direct result of him realizing more and more that, "daiz not yuh wuk". I think Capello needs to take some credit for this too, in the national setup when Rooney running back in left back to throw in he wild tackle and dem, Capello does buff him up and tell him to cool it.

That said, Rooney is not unstoppable and a well drilled defence can keep him out of a game. And yes I think there are players that in peak form are/were unstoppable.. Players that on their day if they turn up, it doesn't matter what you do they will dominate and your best bet is to nullify the players around them or the supply to them..

Rivaldo on his day was unstoppable.. Ronaldo (the real one), Zidane, Ronaldinho and Figo similarly at some point I think were unstoppable players as well.

Rooney is nowhere near there as yet, and people need not to buy into the hype of the English press calling him the best striker in the world right now. IMO Messi and Drogba are harder propositions for any defense right now and a fit Fernando Torres is more clinical and deadly than a Rooney could ever be.

 :applause: :applause:
Well said sah.  Talk done IMHO.

Rooney is good,  but he too dirty fuh my likin and thus presents a bit of a liability.

Yuh see what he did to the Milan right back?? - stamp and knee the man!! Dais shyte.  Ref had seen that he would have been red-carded...

For my squad I going with Drogs and Torres, right thru..

Touches,
I too was at the games last night and having not attended a game since I last played in 1990 - I was not totally disappointed with how the games were played.  Based on the opinions I had seen on hear, I was expecting to see kickball on display and players that did not have a clue.  So, although the players are not on the same level as in my era 86-90, at least there is some semblance of football being played.

Simply put, what is missing is the passion - all the other things you mentioned in your post, are what made making your schools' first XI special..that is missing.  I was in utter shock when I saw how empty the stadium was...back in the day ..hmm..Saints-Fatima..the place would have been ram out!!

Life is a cycle so hopefully college league will see glory days again ... we may be attending the games in wheel chairs..but let us remain hopeful.

I am in Trinidad for a week and consider myself fortunate that the intercol schedule is as it is ... getting to see CIC mash up both Fatima and QRC...den fly out the next day!!

3 - Rivelino

4 - Eder

5 - Liam Brady

Wha allyuh think?

By process of elimination, as long as Pele wasn't left footed it could only be Diego..

Football / Re: USA draws 2-2 with Costa Rica and tops Hexagonal
« on: October 15, 2009, 09:40:25 AM »
actually that wasn't a very disciplined game the US played...CR decided to be more conservative from the 60 min onwards....in the first half they were schooling the US's backline everything was going through #11 and then because they had two goals they changed their game plan and that killed them.

Exactly.

CR had it going ... but decided to start playing anti-football.  Poor game management if you ask me.  Coaching.

We all know 2 nil is the most dangerous of leads ... one goal in respone changes the whole complexion of the game and plays on the psyche of the players.
