29.3.07 - Costa Rica achieved their historic 1000th career goal in the 1:1 draw against the hosts, Chile, in an international friendly, at the Fiscal Stadium in Talca on Wednesday evening.
After Chile took a 1:0 halftime lead with a goal by Reinaldo Navia in the 33rd minute, Rolando Fonseca scored the equaliser in the 61st minute for Costa Rica.
Since Joaquín Manuel Guiterrez scored the first ever goal for the ticos in their inaugural game, a 7:0 victory over El Salvador on 14 September 1921, Costa Rica has played in 524 international matches and next to Mexico is only the second CONCACAF nation to have scored 1,000 goals.
