We have a great record there...

It has to end sometime, hopefully it won't tomorrow.

1-0 to United, maybe.

Its a tough one to call considering the form Villa are in.

Football / Re: Tevez Will Join Madrid - Marca

Considering that United have said they will sign Tevez in the next few months for 35 million (this comes from the club and his agent) and the fact that Madrid were left with egg on their faces over the Ronaldo saga...I think this is nothing more than Madrid trying to get United back over what happened in the summer.

Its a case of Madrid looking at Uniteds squad, picking up on a player who is in contract negotiations and then saying "We're signing him". Its all a bit sad.

Madrid = Comedy club...

Unlike Barca, they have no class.

Theres also a good chance that Ronaldo will be signing a new deal before the seasons end, which will also have pissed them off.

United fans who are on here applauding the vermins win against Chelsea need to take a long hard look at themselves. No United fan should EVER want Liverpool to win against anyone.

u need to take a look at yourself. Chelsea is the bigger threat. Now that their unbeaten run is over, they may lose a few more games thus allowing us to catch up with them. Liverpool more likely to falter in the later stages than chelsea. Yeah we hate liverstool, but i rather we win the title, even if it means backing liverfool to win a couple of games.

You are not a United fan. Don't stand in the sun too long, you know how PLASTIC melts...

If you knew anything about the club you would know that the rivalry between the two stretches beyond football...Support Liverpool against Chelsea because 'they are the bigger threat'? You have to be mental. There are two games every season that I always want Chelsea, Arsenal and the rest to win...guess who they're against...

Do you think Barca fans would support Real Madrid for a day purely because they are playing a team who are vying against them for honours?

True, Chelsea are rivals and are hated by us but only recently and I was hoping that they would get a win and continue their unbeaten run at home.

You can ask anyone in Manchester, if United don't win the league they would rather see Arsenal or Chelsea do it rather than the Stanley knife wielding scouse bastards...Todays result only proves that Chelsea are not as invincible as everyone thinks...its just a shame they had to show it against the dole scrounging vermin...

Irwin was Uniteds most consistent defender from 1992 - 1999. He was also great going forward as his goalscoring record suggests.

Whether he was United's most consistent defender doh mean anyting when yuh lookin at best wing backs.  Compared to de men on dis thread, he come like Avery John.

Nex ting allyuh United men go say Gary Neville deserve to be on de list too... ::)

Well since people are mentioning Micah Richards, I don't see the harm in throwing Irwins name into the discussion. In his day he was one of the best full backs in in the UK. Compare that to Richards who can't even get into the England squad ahead of Wes Brown (who isn't even a natural full back).

But then I am replying to someone who earlier stated that Clichy is a better wing back than Evra, so this comes as no surprise...

I believe that of the squad of sixteen who won Spurs the League Cup, there are a mere eight of them left now, seven months on. There is a lack of continuity which has made that victory and the successive fifth places look like flukes when they should have given Spurs a platform to build on. Every successful club goes through some disruption and change every now and again, but not on the scale and frequency of Spurs, and they're probably on the brink of another upheaval barely a year after the last one.

Plus, can anyone see Ferguson, Wenger and Scolari/Mourinho putting up with a Damien Comolli figure? No chance.

Evra has nothing on Clichy in my opinion.

No... he just runs less...

You've just proved my point.

Lampard knows what his position is. He knows what his job is. Sometimes he does it well, sometimes he doesn't but the point is that he won't often deviate from the role that is asked of him. He knows when to go forward and when to stay where he is. Compare that to Gerrard. Gerrards positioning is all over the place when he plays for England because (by his own admission) tries to do everything himself. Punting 60 yard passes into row z when a  simple 5 yard pass to teammate would have been the better option is a good example of this.

Lampard is a far more intelligent player than Gerrard.

Lampard looks far more comfortable at international level than Gerrard does and I don't think this is a coincidence.

If the game on June 1st is anything to go by, then you would be right.

Kazakhstan created some decent openings for themselves and sporadically attacked with pace. They tried their best with what they had had England rattled during that 10 minute period they had in the second half.

Quite a contrast the labored football Trinidad has been producing lately.

Football / Re: ENGLAND V KAZAKHSTAN

Gerrard does nothing but unbalance England.

England are a more efficient machine without him in the side. Lampard has his critics but he looks far more confortable in an England shirt and is far more intelligent than Gerrard tactically. Carrick is one of the most underrated midfielders in England. His passing is excellent and reads the game very well. He also keeps things moving nicely with his range of passing. Unlike Gerrard, he knows when to play a simple ball and when to play a long range pass. But he's quiet, does his job quietly and not the type of player who buys into the gloss and self promotional bullshit that Gerrard does.

I don't think Capello sees this...yet. But he will. Against opposition like Kazachstan, Gerrard looked lost and out of his depth. Quality midfielders don't go missing like that against supposedly inferior opposition. If Gerrard is as good as people make him out to be, he would make an effort to adapt to form an effective partnership with Lampard. but he won't, because he can't. Lampard can adapt but Gerrard only knows how to play a particular way.

Carrick and Hargreaves return from injury next week.

Its huge
Its long
Its Dion Dublins dong

This was sang many years back when it became public knowledge that Dion Dublin was a very well endowed fella.

Nothing racist about that.

If the man went and put his business out in the road, the fact that he black is only incidental to the entire scenario. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure it would even fall into the category of abuse, more like compliments in a world with a phallocentric conception of virility.

On the other hand, I suppose if you substitute Dion Dublin with any black player, there could be an argument about perpetuating (phenotypical?) stereotypes, but if for instance the same thing was sung about Dwight after the whole Mark Bosnich orgy business or the other guy they caught in the roast fowl controversy recently, it could hardly be considered racist, can it?

Never said that did I?

I just put it forward as an example of how these sorts of chants can be misinterpreted...

In the last two games, Rooney has been played in his preferred role and scored each time. Coincidence?

Rafael looked very good.

There is an obvious logic to the bigger teams seeing fullbacks almost as surrogate attackers as much as defenders. Chelsea, Man United and co. play teams twice a week who set out to stifle them, so the main problem to address is how many attacking options can you muster to break them down.

What was telling last night was how Neville was dropped and rested, yet Brown was not selected in his place. Instead Ferguson elected to gamble and selected Rafael Da Silva. Quite quickly you can see why, he is an awful lot closer in style to Evra than Brown and as such an awful lot closer in ethos to what Ferguson and the other top managers look for in their modern fullbacks.

not sure if you are aware, but that was a play on the thread entitled "united haters... time to get scared" signalling the return of ronaldo.. nothing too scary about what he did on the pitch though, so should i say the utd mans look pretty stupid too?

is just a lil customary pre game banter, which once again you seem to take much too seriously..

take ah chill pill bro.

As someone who used to live in Droylsden and is a former season ticket holder at Old Trafford, of course I will take it a little to heart when some plastic numpty who knows nothing about Chelsea beyond his TV set plays the game of 'football fan'. People like you are ridiculed all over Europe 'plastic fan', 'part-timer', 'armchair fan'...so I might as well do it here...

Were you supporting Chelsea when they were averaging around 15,000 fans per home game? Gareth Hall, Gavin Peacock, Dave Beasant, Mal Donaghy? Any of these Chelsea 'legends' ring a bell?

Of course not. They were far less appealing back then...

At least I started supporting United when they were shit...

Hardly the massacre that the plastic Chelsea fans on here were predicting.

1-1 fair result.

We were the better team in the first half whilst they had the better chances in the second. United never really hit top gear which is encouraging as they were were mauled here last season.

We can get our season up and running now, we won't have to worry about going to Anfield or Stamford Bridge again this season to pick up points. The only 'Big Four' side we have to play away from home now is Arsenal whilst Chelsea still have to go to Anfield, Old Trafford and The Emirates...

Chelsea played a lot better than this in the corresponding fixture last season and in the European Cup final...so you have to ask yourselves if they really have made any progress at all...

I think Ferguson made an error and probably had one eye on the Chelsea game. Irrespective of that, United should have put their strongest available eleven out there.

Two points dropped IMO.

Played for France in d WorldCup Final 1998 and for d life of me, ah doe understand why Aime Jacquet continue to play he instead of Thiery Henry.... ::)

Henry started the majority of Frances games in that tournament and was a winger early on in his career (where he scored most of his goals).

While it was a "professional foul"

It did not warrant a red card as he was not denying the attacker a clear goal scoring opportunity, nor was he the last defender. There were two other covering defenders in Carvalho and Cole.

The ref made a mistake thats all...rush of blood ting nah.

A yellow would have sufficed.

Thats the thing. The red isn't being commuted to a yellow...he will receive no card of any kind.
