A 75 foot stage with catwalk will be constructed at the Queen’s Park Savannah for rock legends Scorpions’ September 23 concert.
The German super group which has spanned three generations of rock will arrive in T&T on September 22 for the show, part of their current world tour.
According to Joey Sabeeney founder of Star Events Ltd—which is bringing the band to T&T—SEL’s historic Legends of Rock 2 concert features a number of “firsts” in various areas.
Local rock group Orange Sky—which is under SEL management and is now on tour in the US—will be returning home to “open” for the Scorpions.
Sabeeney said that since word of the concert broke in the T&T Guardian in May, regional and international interest from fans in Venezuela, Colombia, Guyana, St Lucia, Barbados, St Vincent, Antigua and Florida wishing to attend have been received fortified by requests for reserved tickets.
“Response has been phenomenal,” Sabeeney added, “Not surprising due to the magnitude of this group and the fact that T&T has been included in their world tour.
They’ve never been to the Caribbean and the T&T concert will therefore facilitate fans up and down the region.”
Stage construction will start around September 10 in the area near the Paddock, Sabeeney said.
The sound company handling the event (Johnny Q) also plans to make a statement via the show with an innovative design and roof top now being put together for the concert.
Part sponsor for the show is Carib with Radio 95.1 as the official station for the band’s visit.
In another first—an acknowledgement of the band’s global supergroup status—95.1 will broadcast live, the band’s arrival at Piarco Airport on September 22 and a reception at the diplomatic lounge.
The event also pioneers on-line ticket purchase (with postal delivery) through the following Web sites, Sabeeney said.
n www.stareventslimited.com
n www.caribbeanboxoffice.net
n www.the-scorpions.com
Tickets go on sale August 14 at Ruby Tuesday locations, Sound Research, Music.Com, Just CDs, Music Shak, Bee’s Chaguanas and Muzic Chamber
Orange Sky which will be the opening act for Stone Temple Pilots in Pennsylvania next week will return to the US after the Scorpions concert to continue their American tour, Sabeeney added.
A heavy police and special security presence will be in force for the Savannah concert.
