Swo member weary1969 passed away this morning. Condolences to her family.
-
An absolute shocker! Thanks for the passion and the annual dedication to make sure we give back to the less fortunate. RIP Warrior!
-
Just received this sad news. She was a long standing member of this forum, an avid football fan, and coordinator of our annual Holiday Food Drive. I didn't even know she was sick and in hospital. RIP Joann!

WHAT!!!!!
RIP Weary. I can't believe this ting.
-
Weary messaged me about a month ago saying she had a doctor's appt that day and to pray for her. The message was a bit out of the blue and a tad strange so I asked her what happened and she replied that she was sick and going to do a bone marrow transplant the following day.
I nearly fell out my chair. So I asked her for some more details and she said that she had Non Hodgkins Lymphoma plus the effects of something called HTLV1. So I asked her if once they did the transplant if that was it and she said if its just cancer she'd undergo chemo but she may have to undergo more tests and treatments. We didn't correspond again until 3 days later when she messaged to say that she was at POS general but was due to go home that day, 3rd February.
I told her I'd visit at home. It never happened.....then I see facebook light up this morning....*sigh*
Ah feeling real bummy especially since I didn't make the effort to go visit......*sigh *
We lost a real, real, real good soldier..... :'( :'( :'(

So sad too see this .
RIP Weary
-
What the jail is this? This is shocking! RIP Weary, you will be missed. I admired her commitment to T&T football, a true warrior and contributor to this site.
-
I'm very saddened by this news, Weary and I weren't friends, but we were still 'family' through our love and support of the Warriors, and for this forum. 47-48 years old is way too short of a life, but she did much in her short time to try and ensure that those who were less fortunate could have a little bit of joy. If there is any small consolation it would seem as though she didn't suffer, and that is a silver lining in this sad situation. Godspeed and Rest In Peace Joann.
-
Unbelieveable. R.I.P. Weary. You were not just a football fan or a sports fan, you were, just like most of us here, an unwavering patriot.
-
An avid warrior, sad indeed ........ condolences to her family.

Condolences to Weary's family. I am lost for words. Like a forumite wrote, " I had to do a double take", and read the headlines twice. Mr. and Mrs Weary, most of us did not know Weary in person, but it feels like we have lost a sister. Thank You very much.
Sister Weary, RIP. God Bless. Forumites let's continue to contribute to some of the good causes that she help coordinate on the forum.

I doing something in work and a man ask me..."Eh...who's dah woman who dead boy? I say which woman? He say I see you tag in something dey on facebook...pull it up and show me...and I say..."BUH WHA DE HELL...WHEN DIS HAPPEN?"
Wow.

Understood. I could imagine the confusion. Death is something while we've come to expect...unless we know a situation intimately....we wont expect it right now. C'est la vie.

Her contribution will be missed. Never the one to stoop down to the occasional bickering that does take place on here. Condolences to the family.

Shit..this rel depressin.....I've never met Weary but I felt that we were friends just from her interaction on this board. She was one of those people that deep down you felt and knew she was cool and real and that if you were to ever meet her that it would be greeting a friend.

Forumites, a whatsapp group was created to update folks on weary's funeral arrangements and to co-ordinate things on the WN end.
PM Tallman, Flex or myself if you want to be included...
I'll try to share as much as I can on here as well.
So far the funeral is set tentatively for Tuesday. I'll get more information today.
Also, the family is including us in the tributes portion of the programme. A forumite will say a few words....

RIP Weary, sometimes in the midst of the banter here we take for granted that the person we interact with, most times behind the veil of an alias will always be there to dispute or back up an argument.
For some reason this one hits close to home with me, can't even figure out why, we only met briefly a couple of times. Don't even recall a one on one conversation per se. I guess it's the length of time we have enjoyed her debates with other members, the one line and even one word responses. She was never one to back down and her passion for the game and our national teams was always evident. I am overcome with sadness this morning.
In the words of our Hero Warrior Weary1969 'ENT!"
-
I think the illness was a shock to her as well. She would only have found out that day when she spoke to Brown Sugar so one month is all it took. She only asked for prayers. I don't think anyone knew it would have been so soon. At least we can hold solace in thinking the suffering would have been relatively short.
RIP Weary...you were a true Warrior and one of the most vibrant cogs in the Warrior Nation movement.
We will always remember you when we think of the magic of 2006.
We will feel your spirit move us when we hear the warrior chant.
:(
-
To Know , to Love and then to part is a sad state of many a human heart. When Touches called me and said Weary has gone to higher service at such a young age , I wondered what was her illness. Having read this site about her illness, all I can say is she has gone to a place where there is no more sorrow and no more pain. She was truly a large part of this Soca warriors family and she kept us all honest.
I remember her post of third World as being derogatory. To be absent in the body is to be present with the lord. May she rest in Peace and rise in Glory.

I really didn't know. I sincerely didn't know. When I was tagged in a picture I thought it was just to reminisce but now I found out the truth. Rest in Peace Joann "Weary" Charles. Last time I saw you was last year when I dropped out canned goods for you at your work place. The football matches we will attend won't be the same without you now.
-
Weary had shared her WC story with me..here's the intro which I think summed up her life as we knew it...still sad about this news :(
"WEARY1969 IN GERMANY
A songwriter said that Jesus is the best thing that ever happened to me. I agree the second best thing was going to Germany to support the Soca Warriors"

Really sad news. Always looked forward to her contributions to the various topics discussed in the general section. Gone too soon. RIP Weary.

The 'news' was also broken to me via being tagged in a middle of a FB post asking bout someone.
It was one of those surreal moments when I started clicking back and reading, then I saw the name Joann Charles, instant jaw dropping moment.
To you Jo, a massive Thank you for all you did concerning T&T football and the community at large, you will be missed by many!! :salute:
Rest In Peace my friend :(

Maybe we can dedicate the food drive to her name so her name will live on?

You could depend on her to step up for WN and her heart was in the right place.
Blessed we have good people going through this journey with us.
Much respect and tributes to her family as they should be proud of who she was as a person.
She will be missed. I really appreciated her persepective and that she would walk the talk. Ditto on a tribute because I believe it would mean a lot to her and family.
-
The funeral for the late Joann Charles will be held on Tuesday, March 7th at 10am at Church on the Rock, Lady Young Road, Morvant. I urge of all you who are in a position to attend, to do so.

RIP Weary. Condolences to her family.
While I never met her, always enjoyed reading her posts. She gave back to the community with the WN holiday food drive and I am sure she did a lot more than we were not aware of.
She got into some spirited conversations with people on this forum but she was always respectful.
Gone too soon.

That sums up how I felt as well. We did try to meet up the last two times I was home but something always came in the way.
I was thinking the same as Palos that some kind of tribute can be done at the next Warrior game.
I see she was a driving force behind the Christmas food drive perhaps we can name it after her. It would be a cool legacy and she would be proud.
You know I couldn't sleep well on Thursday night. I kept seeing her face.
Her last post was on Jan. 1. I guess she found out about the illness or found out about it long before the operation because no way Weary would could go two weeks or more without a post.
I never bothered with the food drive as I was out of the country but for her I will make an effort this Christmas.

An intelligent woman with a good heart.
A little sad that she had to go that way at such a relatively young age. But this is the world in which we live.
-
Not to pre-empt Browns report but the place was ram out. A lot of people feeling the loss. It wasnt the usual platitudes, many spoke of her mindset of "not necessarily getting it done her way but getting it done the right way"...and how they appreciated her tough love approach. A common trend was how selfless she was and how devotion to sports and service was really her guiding principles. Browns words on our behalf was really heartfelt and well received. We really lost a good one.
I guessing details to follow.

Apologies forumites, I'm only now, now, now getting a chance to provide an update. Warrior Queen (aka Steups!!) was also in attendance.
The thing that stuck me during the service is that the Weary we knew on the forum is the same person known by her friends and family. That was evident from the tributes and the eulogy read by her sister. Her online persona was no different to her "offline" one.
She was really well loved by her community, fellow San Juan Government Alumni and her church. As I was leaving the service a lady stopped and and said that she always went shopping with Weary for the food drive. She said Weary would always worry that the money wasn't enough and she would tell her not to worry, it will be enough.
I also met another church member who was involved with the church's football team and he wanted information on the Warrior Nation/SWO.
That's it in a nutshell. I can't think of anything else to report really......its just very surreal that she's no longer around to engage us in her own special Weary way......*sigh*
Let's really try to come up with a way to honour at the games later this month as suggested by Palos(?). I have a few thoughts but anything we come up with would rely on the local base to execute......that's it for now......
-
Thanks for de updates Brownie.

Hmm. Life is a thing. I was over at my old school FB page, just passing through and saw that a professor had passed away. I couldn't really remember her and assumed I didn't know her well. Come over here to find out that the same person that I've been laughing with, sending PMs on here for year was that very same soul and we came from the very same place. Been on here years and never knew it. We never had any issue, we were always kind to each other. I'm glad that was the case.
Rest in Peace my friend Rest in Paradise.

Waw! Haven't logged on in a while. This is definitely a shocker. Didn't know her that well, but I do remember the 1st time I interacted with her would've been at the Peru game in 05. My gf and I Sat next to her. She was such a pleasant and passionate woman! She's def gone too soon...
RIP Weary1969... aka Queen of 'Co-sign'
Ps. Just asking, but are there any plans to do a tribute for her at the upcoming games? Would be great if a banner could be done in her honor and hung from the fencing. Just a suggestion, would be willing to contribute towards it.

I thought of something like this but I'm not sure I'll have the time to organise collecting it from the printer......also the last time we tried to hang a banner in the stadium we almost got put out. Back then the banner read something like Camps must go!! So that was understandable I guess.....the good old days *sigh*

Hello Forumites,
I'm organising a banner for display at the Hasley Crawford Stadium at the Mexico game next Tuesday. I wouldn't get it in time for Friday unfortunately. The cost is TT $400. Anyone wanting to contribute can do so via Paypal (Tallman, help me out with the link please....)
I will attach a mock up of the banner as soon as I figure out what to do (ah not too techie nah and de guy sent it as a Windows Photo Viewer document ::)....).
It will read.....
"RIP Joann Charles
(Weary 1969)"
with her photo and the Warrior Nation logo at the top.....

Took me a little while to decide what tribute to write here.
Over the years Weary and I would occasionally clash over various subjects and what stood out was her unwavering support for people she liked and her steadfastness of belief, whatever that was.
I got many loud steups responses from her.
I will miss her unique brand of expressions and the frustrations she created.
RIP Joann AKA Weary.
I am sure football and life is a paradise where you are now.

Rest in Peace Sister.
