NotesTwo berths in next year's World Cup in Germany are at stake, with the third-place finisher getting a second chance against the fifth-place team from Europe for another spot.
This will be only the second time the CONCACAF women's championship has been staged outside of the United States or Canada, and first since the inaugural event in Haiti in 1991.
Germany 2011 race gathering momentumFrance, Norway, England and Sweden all secured passage to next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup after winning their play-off matches a fortnight ago. The quartet join Australia, Korea DPR and Japan as qualifiers, alongside host nation Germany, for the world’s premier women’s football competition.
The defeated European teams will have another tilt at qualification during October, with play-offs to decide which will earn the right to meet the third-placed CONCACAF nation. Looking further afield, the Oceania representative will be determined on 8 October when their eight-nation tournament concludes, before the focus then turns to Africa, South America and the CONCACAF region, with all three set to commence their qualifying competitions in late September.
TicketsMeanwhile, more than
300,000 tickets have already been sold for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011™. 50,000 have been ordered since the start of individual ticket sales on 15 September 2010, with orders arriving from over 20 different countries, including the USA, Japan, South Africa, Australia, Malta and Israel.
Aside from the opening match, the final and the group games involving hosts Germany, other matches, such as the match for third place in Sinsheim and the four quarter-finals, have been in particularly high demand.
Sales of individual tickets will continue until 31 December 2010 on a first-come, first-served basis. A total of 700,000 tickets are on general sale for the 32 Germany 2011 matches in the host cities of Augsburg, Berlin, Bochum, Dresden, Frankfurt, Leverkusen, Monchengladbach, Sinsheim and Wolfsburg.
