Victoria Education District athletes excel
Saturday, July 5 2014 (T&T Newsday)

THE FUTURE of track and field is in very good hands. This was evident from the excellent performance of the young athletes from the Victoria Education District when they participated in the blink/bmobile sponsored Victoria Education District Games in March.

The awards ceremony for the Games was held on June 25 at the Pleasantville Community Centre with the seven zones in attendance — Gasparillo, San Fernando East, Claxton Bay/Tortuga, San Fernando North, La Romaine/Debe, Williamsville and Lengua/Barrackpore.

Loud screams and applause could be heard when the Gasparillo District walked away with the highly coveted prize of zone champions.

The Blink/bmobile Foundation has been a proud sponsor of the Victoria Education District Games and a supporter of the development of the young athletes in the district for the past three years.

The top performing athletes honoured at the award ceremony include Kareem Solomon of Claxton Bay Anglican Primary School (Boys Under-9), Sierra Joseph of Vistabella Presbyterian Primary School (Girls Under-9) and Adriel Bruce of St Paul’s Anglican Primary School (Boys Under-11). There was a tie for the best Under—11 Girls with Reneil David of Claxton Bay Anglican and Sherry-Ann Kanhai of Picton Presbyterian Primary School sharing this award.

The best Under-13 Boys title went to Adica Ash from Vos Government Primary School and Gabriella Walters of Gasparillo Government Primary School took home the best Under-13 Girls trophy. Joshua Butler from Mon Repos Roman Catholic Primary School ran away with the Boys Under—15 while schoolmate Mylee Moses and Maria Garcia of Vos Government tied for the Girls Under-15 award.

The winners of the Victoria Education District Games went on to represent their district at the National Games in May where they turned in the district’s best performance in recent years, finishing third overall.Joseph, Bruce and Walters will also represent Trinidad and Tobago at the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) Games to be held in Trinidad this month.
De higher a monkey climbs is de less his ass is on de line, if he works for FIFA that is! ;-)
