Jones on course for October return

Kenwyne Jones is hoping to make a Premier League return by mid-October.

The Sunderland frontman has started running as he returns from a knee injury and is on course for a playing comeback next month.

Jones injured his knee playing for Trinidad & Tobago against England in June.

He said: "I'm trying to get fit for the Fulham game (October 18). I'm starting to run again and that's a big relief because it has been frustrating to sit it out over the last few weeks."

It was feared that the injury would keep Jones out for the rest of the year. "I went from having a bad injury to it scaling down, this means I could return much earlier than first feared," he said.

Roy Keane has admitted that Sunderland have missed Jones despite signing 10 players over the summer.

"We've missed Kenwyne's physical presence," he said. "He's doing fine and he remains on course for an October return."

Whatever you do, do it to the purpose; do it thoroughly, not superficially. Go to the bottom of things. Any thing half done, or half known, is in my mind, neither done nor known at all. Nay, worse, for it often misleads.
