Shklar leaves Betar
By JEREMY LAST (Jerusalem Post)
25 Dec 2006
Betar Jerusalem chairman Vladimir Shklar agreed to leave the Premier League club on Sunday, a year and a half after he joined the team.
Shklar was brought in by owner Arkadi Gaydamak to run the day-to-day affairs at Betar not long after the Russian billionaire bought the club in the summer of 2005. The pair met on Sunday and by the afternoon, Shklar had vacated his position by mutual consent.
Despite the fact that Betar is currently in first place in the Premier League, there has been continuing unrest at the club and Shklar had been blamed for the lack of stability.
Eli Arazi, a former commander of the Israel Police special forces unit, is believed to be the top candidate to take over as chairman.
Shklar, who previously worked for the Jerusalem municipality, was seen as being responsible for the hiring of Argentinian Ossie Ardiles as head coach this past summer, a move which eventually backfired in November when Gaydamak ruled that Ardiles should be fired and replaced by Yossi Mizrahi.
Ardiles was given a relatively free hand by Shklar in choosing players to bring to the team, and one, fellow Argentinian Christian Fabiani, was last week asked to leave as Mizrahi did not see a future for him at the club.
Although Shklar was seen as a close confidante of Gaydamak, it appeared that the owner was not satisfied with the team's performances considering the millions of shekels he has pumped into Betar.
Mizrahi was due to travel to England this past weekend and is believed to be interested in signing Coventry City's Stern John, a striker who used to play for Nottingham Forest and Manchester City, to replace Fabiani.

My advice to Stern John is to take the Chelsea offer ;) although Arsenal is more desparate for an Henry replacement... ;D
-
De man(Stern) is what 30, 31, take de money and sort out yuh business sah. In my opinion, de only thing right now better dan dat, is going tuh de EPL or Spain, Italy, Holland, Germany and France top leagues, and dat eh looking possible, at least not now. Bless.

Stern need to take de money and run...... As others said, de man only have couple playing years under he belt. Stern is not Russell Latapy and to a lesser extent Dwight Yorke so he needs to capatilize on offers that can help to ensure security for he family. After all, ball is ball and Yorke was treated with celeb status in Australia maybe Stern so too might be in Jerusalem.

i think he should go..... i have two good friends from there and i also visited the country it sis nice and teh league is okkkkk.......

Jamaica's Paul 'Tegat' Davis, along with deceased Peter Cargill (RIP) plied their trade for this Isreali outfit in the 1980's.

Yeah boy, I rel miss those days Stern used to play for Manchester City.
-
What money? Anybody even know if dey offering a better deal dan Coventry???
-
i would assume so.... why else would he go to play there if they weren't offering a better deal... cuz the standard of football can't be higher
-
Except the article doesn't say he's going there. There's a little blurb at the end saying that it is believed that they might be interested in him.

dem outer limits leagues does have an alotment for a star. Stern might be that star for them as Dwight was in the land down under so i suspect that de pay would be better.

Stern John?? You serious?
Maybe we should wait until they make an actual offer? If they ever make one.
