MADRID, April 6 (Reuters) - Real Betis striker Sergio Garcia will be out for a month after injuring his knee while celebrating scoring the opening goal in the 3-3 home draw against Numancia, the Primera Liga club said on Monday.
The Spain international slid to his knees after netting in the ninth minute on Saturday, and had to be substituted soon after.
The side's top scorer with nine goals twisted the lateral ligament in his left knee the club said on their website (www.realbetisbalompie.es).
Betis are one point above the relegation places in 16th, with nine games left to play, after twice blowing a winning position against Numancia in a crazy game that included three penalties and three red cards.
For next weekend's trip to face Racing Santander, under pressure coach Paco Chaparro will also be without defender Nelson and Portugal goalkeeper Ricardo who were sent off on Saturday, and Brazilian striker Ricardo Oliveira who picked up his fifth yellow card.

It's not funny that he's injured, but I couldn't help myself when I read how he got injured.

pure stupidity.
-
That happen to Martin Palermo some years ago.
-
ah notice that players skate on their knees easier in england than in spain
-
Was never a big fan of the knee slide on dry ground- always looks like an accident waiting to happen.
-
Is a good thing we don't have to worry about KJ injuring himself with his goal celebrations anymore

not nice :)
is like the time when someone answered carl hooper's phone when he jus went out to bat and they tell the caller hold on he coming jus now
-
Yeh I remember Palermo's incdent.
Also a fella named Diogo lost a finger when his ring got caught when he jumped up on a fence.
When he jumped down his finger got ripped off.
That sound real painful.

Ent the same thing happen to Martin Keown and he miss the FA Cup final? Chuppid idot

How he got injured is real schupid... but I wouldn't call him schupid personally. As some know, I not a big fan of the celebrations... but something as simple as a knee slide, which you see executed so often, you'd think that's pretty "safe". Hard luck dey Garcia.
If man calling he schupid fuh ah simple slide... what dey go call Kenwyne and Nani fuh flipping and jumping around?
-
I love the celebrations....
You what Happenede to Jozi after he score the 1st goal? He was sliding and then he just stick and fall forward. It was the 1st goal I think.
-
wha bout d man in d MLS who injure himself for d season after he try to flip but didnt make enuff height...man say he done flippin after dat lol (tink he was fined too, not sure)
-
Personally I am not a big fan of these fancy celebrations, but I don't think guys are stupid for doing them... perhaps at times a little over eager - not a crime generally speaking.
The knee slide is a fairly routine and those European club grounds are immaculately kept. Is not to say the man try that in the QP Savannah. Sometimes stuff happens, at the end of the day it is a really simple way to have to miss a month.
