Penn Relays (http://www.trackalerts.com/track-and-field/Calendar/2014-penn-relays/2860/)
Date: April 24-26th, 2014 (TrackAlerts.com)
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
As the first and oldest of relay meets, the Penn Relays has always tried to stay at the forefront of advances in the sport. This year's effort is no different. While we run an average of one race every five minutes over our 33 hours of competition, our website will try to keep pace with up-to-the-minute results, features, video and blogs. In the weeks leading up to the Relays, we'll have previews and podcasts, news and updates, all with the idea of presenting all the important stuff as quickly as we can get it to you. On behalf of the Penn Relays family, welcome to ThePennRelays.com, rebooted, refreshed and ready for action!

Jamaica teams ready to blaze at Penn Relays (http://www.trackalerts.com/Articles/jamaica-teams-ready-to-blaze-at-penn-relays/12243/)
April 24th 3:18pm (TrackAlerts.com)
The biggest relay carnival in the world, the Penn Relays, will take centre stage from April 24-26, 2014 on the grounds of the University of Pennsylvania. Many of the world’s top track and field high schools, colleges and national teams will travel miles to this prestigious event seeking glory. This year fans should witness over 22,000 athletes participating in 425 events over the three days of competition. Several outstanding Caribbean athletes will be on display this year at the 120th staging of the Penn Relays representing their respective high schools and universities.
For many years, the Jamaican high schools have brought their flair and high-spirited culture to the relays, which has secured their legacy and thrilled spectators. One such school is Kingston College, an institution that paved the way fifty years ago winning on debut, and today remains a shining beacon for other schools. Kingston College will receive official recognition for their inspirational role at the Penn Relays this year.
The Jamaican high school athletes are naturally competitive and usually relish the opportunity to compete not only against their native high school counterparts but also against top U.S. and Caribbean high schools at Franklin Field. The added bonus of securing a track & field scholarship through quality performances is also a magnetic source of motivation.
The strength of the competition from their U.S, Canadian, South African and Caribbean opponents this year are unknown, however, based on the superlative performances at the Gibson Relays and Boys & Girls championships, the Jamaican high schools should equip themselves well against quality opposition.
Some outstanding Caribbean seniors will also be on show, the list includes, Kerron Stewart, Michael Frater, Chris Brown, Michelle-Lee Ahye and Natoya Goule. Other countries represented this year include, Brazil, China, Ireland, Nigeria, Mexico, Sierra Leone and Australia. Therefore, without making any predictions I encourage track fans to follow keenly these selected events below:

Lendore in Penn limelight (http://www.trinidadexpress.com/sports/Lendore-in-Penn-limelight-256783091.html)
By Kwame Laurence Philadelphia
Story Created: Apr 25, 2014 at 8:47 PM ECT (T&T Express)
Deon Lendore was in the limelight and loving it at Franklin Field here in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, yesterday—penultimate day of the 120th Penn Relays.
The Trinidad and Tobago athlete’s split of 44.6 seconds anchored Texas A&M University to victory in the opening college men’s 4x400 metres qualifying heat in 3:05.06. Another T&T quartermiler, Carlyle Roudette split 46 seconds even on the third leg.
Texas A&M will do battle in the college men’s 4x400m Championship of America at 6 p.m. today. A crowd of 38,135 showed up at Franklin Field yesterday, creating a big meet atmosphere conducive to top-class performances.
“The Penn Relays,” Lendore told the Express, “is like a start-up for meet s like World Championships and Olympic Games. It’s a big crowd, but the good thing about here is no matter who you are, no matter where you’re from, the crowd loves you, once you do good, and once you’re running fast. I love Penn Relays.”
And the spectators loved Lendore, the 2014 400m world leader, outdoors and indoors, with 44.90 and 45.03 clockings. “Even after I finish running for Texas A&M, hopefully I’ll come back here and run for Trinidad and Tobago in ‘USA against the World’.”
Lendore said he is looking forward to representing T&T at the July 18 to August 3 Commonwealth Games, in Glasgow, Scotland. “I’ve never been to a Commonwealth Games before. I want to see how it’s going to pan out.
“Coach, over the years,” he continued, “realises that I have a lot to do in the post-collegiate season, so he tried to reduce the workload. Only this meet I could say I actually ran a lot. But I kind of asked to be a part of it. He didn’t actually force me to do it.”
Lendore also anchored Texas A&M in yesterday’s college men’s 4x100m and 4x200m heats. The university finished first overall in the 4x2 in 1:20.67, and will contest the Championship of America today. And in the 4x1, Texas A&M clocked 40.64 seconds for 11th spot overall. Roudette was part of the 4x2 team.
T&T sprinter Shermund Allsop is expected to line up for Louisiana State University (LSU) today in the college men’s 4x100m Championship of America. He ran the second leg for LSU in their 39.80 seconds run—the second fastest time in the heats.
Meanwhile, Lalonde Gordon helped New York club Zenith Velocity earn top spot in the Olympic Development men’s 4x100m in 40.53, while Texas A&M’s Wayne Davis II clocked 13.70 seconds to lead all qualifiers into today’s college men’s 110m hurdles Championship. And Coppin State University’s Deandra Daniel cleared the bar at 1.76 metres for fifth spot in the college women’s high jump Championship.

So Caribbean Airlines in Jamaica sponsoring Penn Relays updates and provides media for departing teams, but in Trinidad where they are headquartered they can't give a red cent to athletes?

So Caribbean Airlines in Jamaica sponsoring Penn Relays updates and provides media for departing teams, but in Trinidad where they are headquartered they can't give a red cent to athletes?
Maybe they only want to put their money behind something that is already seen as successful rather than behind something that has the potential to be just as successful with their added support.
Just look at it as short-sighted thinking.

RELAY WOMEN 3RD
Davis wins at Penn Relays
By Kwame Laurence in Philadelphia
Story Created: Apr 26, 2014 at 9:23 PM ECT
(Story Updated: Apr 26, 2014 at 9:23 PM ECT )
The Penn Relays track and field meet has a huge reputation. The last-day atmosphere is phenomenal, and for the athletes who have the privilege of competing on Penn Saturday, the urgings of a passionate crowd of 50,000-odd often provide a fillip.
A new Trinidad and Tobago combination—teenager Aaliyah Telesford, Michelle-Lee Ahye, Reyare Thomas and anchor Kamaria Durant—were among the “Penn Magic” beneficiaries, yesterday, putting together a solid performance to finish third in the USA against the World women’s 4x100 metres relay.
“I like how the crowd gives us a vibe and excitement,” Ahye told the Sunday Express. “I really like the atmosphere.”
T&T got the baton around the track in 43.53 seconds. Jamaica (42.81) and United States (43.15), meanwhile, were first and second, respectively.
Missing from the T&T line-up were the familiar faces of Kelly-Ann Baptiste, Semoy Hackett and Kai Selvon.
“Knowing it’s a young team,” said Ahye, “I didn’t really put any pressure, but I’m very proud of the team.
“Once everybody keeps healthy and keeps training, we’re going to do good at the World Relays (in Bahamas).”
Thomas is anticipating significant improvement for Team T&T.
“For now, it was okay. But I think we could do a lot better once we work on our hand-offs. We’re looking forward to going to Bahamas and representing Trinidad and Tobago to the best of our ability.”
T&T’s Wayne Davis II had things all his own way in the college men’s 110m hurdles Championship, the Texas A&M University student cruising to victory in 13.50 seconds.
Penn State University’s Steve Waithe topped the college men’s triple jump Championship with a wind-assisted 16.22 metres effort. The T&T athlete also had a legal jump of 15.94m.
Shermund Allsop anchored Louisiana State University (LSU) to the runner-up spot in the college men’s 4x100m Championship of America in 38.83 seconds.
Carlyle Roudette and Deon Lendore helped Texas A&M University to silver in the college men’s 4x200m Championship of America in one minute, 20.29 seconds, while Allsop was part of the LSU team that clocked 1:21.47 to finish third.
Roudette and Lendore helped Texas A&M earn fourth spot in the college men’s 4x400m Championship of America in 3:06.94. Texas A&M opted to skip the college men’s 4x100m final.
A Queen’s Royal College (QRC) quartet—Edwin Phillips, Jamoul Pierre, Jesse Fredericks and Nathan Farinha—clocked 3:18.15 to finish fourth in the high school boys’ 4x400m Championship of America. In the qualifying round, the QRC combination of Asa Guevara, Pierre, Phillip and Farinha were second in their heat in 3:15.42.
And T&T’s Alena Brooks ran the 400m leg for a Caribbean All Stars quartet in the USA against the World women’s sprint medley relay, teaming up with Bahamians Anthonique Strachan and Sheniqua Ferguson and Jamaica’s Kimarra McDonald for third spot in 3:46.95, behind USA (3:37.94) and Jamaica (3:38.41).
As expected, it was a bit chilly at Franklin Field yesterday. The sun, though, was often out, and conditions were not unbearable.
“It’s always good to come here and compete,” Brooks told the Sunday Express. “The stadium is really crowded, so it builds the hype, everyone putting forward their best. And it’s really good weather this year.”
