Title: Miss T&T Universe & Miss World Thread
Post by: Sentinel on January 27, 2006, 06:39:45 PM
Former Senator is The Father of Wendy Fitzwilliam's Baby.

Well, it turns out that long before most Trinis had any idea that our former Miss Universe was in the family way, the Jamaica Observer newspaper in its All Woman section on Monday, January 9th had already noted the situation and supplied the answer.

According to the Jamaica Observer, the baby's daddy is Dr. David Panton, a former Opposition Senator (Jamaica Labour Party).

He was married to former Miss Jamaica/ Miss World 1993 Lisa Hanna and they have a four-year-old son.

Hanna and Panton have been separated for the past two years.

Panton, an investment banker, is a former Rhodes Scholar and Oxford graduate.

He retired from the Jamaican Senate in 2004 and now lives in Atlanta, where he is vice president at the Atlanta offices of Mellon Ventures.

Meanwhile a Trinidad source who reportedly knows Panton described him as "scholarly, good looking and real bright, bright."

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Forty minutes into her reign as Miss Universe, Miss Puerto Rico Zuleyka Rivera Mendoza collapsed during a post-pageant news conference and was rushed offstage Sunday night.

Pageant officials immediately said the lithe 5-foot-9 18-year-old was all right and had fainted.

"She's OK. She's fine," pageant representative Lark Anton told Reuters. "She got dizzy. It's very hot up here. Her dress is tight -- as you could see it was beaded and heavy. She passed out."

Mary wasn't married to Joseph when Jesus was born........she was still a virgin, and God chose her to have an "immaculate conception".......

that is of course if you believe that stuff...

Highly unlikely that would be the case... whether one believes the virgin birth or not.

A young pregant jewish woman rolling with an adult male (who is not a blood relative) and not married to him, back in those days, was unheard of.

Well I wasn't alive back in those days, so I couldn't tell yuh what was unheard of.....I was just repeating it as it was told.......from what I remember Joseph & Mary got married after Jesus was born

but like I say, we can choose to believe whatsoever we wish to..........all that jazz is subject to interpretation in my opinion.

Rastafarian wins Miss Jamaica Universe title
published: Tuesday | March 27, 2007

Zahra Redwood created history Sunday night when she became the first Rastafarian to be crowned Miss Jamaica Universe. The coronation took place at the Hilton Kingston hotel, New Kingston. - Winston Sill/Freelance Photographer

Kavelle Anglin-Christie, Staff Reporter

Miss Jamaica Universe 2007, Zahra Redwood, made history on Sunday night at the Hilton Kingston hotel in New Kingston.

Redwood, 25, is the first Rastafarian to win the competition and will move on to represent Jamaica in the international finals in Mexico on May 28.

Said Redwood following her historic victory: "I was just in absolute awe. I was elated, I was overwhelmed; it's a feeling I've never felt before, so everything that I'm saying is just a mere approximation to the emotions I was going through at that time."

She added: "I was just in awe and I guess it showed on-stage because I didn't even shed a tear or anything. I was really happy. It's like 'oh my gosh, the dream has finally come to reality'."

Sanique Vacciana copped the prize for 'Best Smile', Tiffany Smile, for 'Best In Gown', Stacy Ann Kirlew won the 'Best in Swim Suit' prize, while Zahra won the 'Most Congenial' and 'Most Aware' prizes.

The top five were Tiffany Smile, Sydonie McBane, Marsha-Gaye Reynolds, Redwood and Sanique Vacciana.

As the proclamation came over the system, 'Zahra Redwood, Miss Jamaica 2007!' an African song played softly in the background and Cindy Wright, Miss Jamaica Universe 2006, balanced the large diamond crown on Miss Redwood's pinned

hmm...why is she competing? She is lovely, no question but from the very VERY little I know about Rastafarianism, I thought competitions of this nature wasn't something a rasta would do?

Is this simply a hairstyle? Then why call her a Rastafarian?

I'm confused.

My idea of pretty has to be very different from whoever did this, because Wendy is ah BEAUTY! Along with Miss Botswana, who actually caught my eye more than Wendy.

you clearly never saw Wendy in person.  Wendy did not win miss universe on physical beauty alone.  she has the ability to make you feel that you are in the presence of something truly special.  she epitomises grace and dignity. she carries herself like royalty.  and yes, has the ability to stop a man dead in his tracks.  wretched woman.   ;)  i try not to stand next too her too often.  lol

ahhhm I have travelled with her, spoken to her and never get bazodee.  I also have never felt awed by her to categorize her as "Something special," beyond the everyone is special category.

She is a nice woman, but we have plenty better looking all along the length and breath of sweet T&T!

Grace and dignity is something I find a lot of trini women exude, so nutten out of the ordinary there.

I feel she is just ok, sorry

'Gaby' did T&T proud, says Elias

Camille Bethel cbethel@trinidadexpress.com

Sunday, December 14th 2008

Miss Trinidad and Tobago Gabrielle Walcott yesterday emerged second runner-up at the 2008 Miss World Beauty Pageant.

Walcott came in behind Miss India, Parvathay Omanakuttan, the first runner-up, and Miss Russia, Kseniya Sukhinova, who won the Miss World crown in Johannesburg, South Africa, in a glittering African-themed pageant where she outshone 108 other international beauties and pledged to "help people". Walcott made it into the final five, beating out beauties from 109 countries and having to best it out with Miss India, Miss Russia, Miss Angola and Miss South Africa.

In a telephone interview yesterday, queen-maker Peter Elias expressed his joy over the results, which he described as a blessing.

"I just feel such pride to see all the hard work that we all did as a team and to have this as the outcome.

"I feel blessed that we have had this blessing from God. It is important that we recognise that it is a blessing, because not everyone wins," he said.

Elias said Walcott's dress, which was designed by local designer Bobby Ackbarali who is based in Canada, was nominated for the pageant's best dress award which Miss USA won.

"But she did win the best Beauty with a Purpose award for her work with the Just Because Foundation," he said of Walcott.

He said this was a big deal for Trinidad and Tobago because the charity work was showcased on international television during the pageant, which was viewed by millions of people around the world.

This, he said, is what Walcott wanted to do -make her country proud.

"I have spoken with her and right now she is at the coronation ball. All Gaby wanted was to make her country proud and she has," he said.

Noting that this was his last pageant, Elias also said:

"This pageant is the end of the road for me. It was my final pageant but I am hopeful that from this result everyone in this country will feel that they have the potential to be great."

He said all of the hard work that he has done in promoting the beauty pageant locally over the past 15 years was for that purpose.

"We have seen our flag flown high over time, and I wish that my successor would get much more support than I did to continue that because the true benefit of pageants like this is building national pride and promoting the country."

The fact that we have a proven track record in this type of competition is enough for me.

This is part of our culture and money should be allocated accordingly. She represents all of us on a global stage.

The unfortunate thing is that when we do well, everybody both on the public sector and private side want a piece of the action.

Latin nip and tuck: Trinis flock to Venezuela for cosmetic surgery...
Carolyn Kissoon, South Bureau

Monday, December 1st 2008

Not pleased with the way she looked, Jasmine Caesar, who lives in West Trinidad, decided to take the plunge and undergo plastic surgery.

And after shelling out US$4,242, with added costs for airfare and accommodation, she travelled to Polarmar (sic), Margarita, in Venezuela, where she went under the knife to remove excess fat from her abdominal area.

Caesar (not her real name) was recovering at her home yesterday, four months after the procedure was performed.

She was among scores of Trinidadian women who have taken on the challenge of doing something about the way they look. And she was one of two women who answered an advertisement in the Express and went on to do plastic surgery in Venezuela. Several others who answered it are still considering the move.

The second woman, from South Trinidad, also performed liposuction to her belly.

"Many people tried to tell me that I should not undergo this surgery. But it is not something I just got up one day and decided to have. I went for consultation and I underwent a series of tests before it was done," Caesar said.

The mother of two teenage boys said she now felt comfortable going to the beach. "I live on an island and going to the beach was difficult for me because I did not want people to see me in a bathing suit. This surgery has changed my life. I am now 20 pounds lighter and I can wear a short pants and top and walk down the road," she said.

Plastic surgery has gained popularity over the years in countries from the US to Japan. In neighbouring Venezuela, it has become routine. Now it seems to be catching on in Trinidad and Tobago, with dozens of women calling daily for information.

Carmen Graham, manager of Easy Beauty, has dedicated her time to having consultations with women on having plastic surgery. And after studying the field, Graham decided to introduce the procedures to men and women living in Trinidad and Tobago.

Graham recently established an office along Wrightson Road, Port of Spain, where women can visit to discuss their needs.

"We have been getting numerous calls from locals. Although we have recently established this business, women are calling to find out about the surgeries," she said.

After an assessment, the patients are taken to Margarita, where they go through a series of tests.

Dr Luis Alejandro Fuenmayor Ditrisco, a Venezuelan, recruits a specialist to conduct the procedure. "This doctor is the coordinator of the surgery and he is also a specialist in buttocks. But he sources the right person for any specific procedure," Graham said.

Graham said before every procedure the patient has to undergo a medical evaluation to avoid complications. "We need to know your previous conditions so that we can be able to treat that first and to rule out conditions that prescribe surgical procedures," she said.

Graham said women in their 40s were her biggest customers. "Women are interested in nose jobs, liposuction, breast augmentations and tummy tucks. But recently I received a call from a woman who wanted to do a lip reduction," she said.

Graham said prices were set according to the procedure. They range from US$3,000 to US$10,000, depending on the size of the body part the person wanted to change.

"But it all depends on what the person wants. If it is a smaller procedure it would be far less. The patient is also housed at a hotel near the facility. And follow-up treatments are included in the initial costs. We give them bras and other things which they may require after the surgery," she said.

Graham said the most popular surgery among Trinidadian women was liposuction, followed by breast augmentation.

"This (breast augmentation) is one of the popular ones, done between 18 to 40 years of age with the intention of increasing the volume of the breast. This is influenced by the woman's desire, cultural background and needs. Implants can be from 250ml to 600ml. Women older than 35 or those who have had children may require additional suspension or pexia that is about increasing turgidity and lifting the breast with or without implants," she said.

Calls have also come from many overweight Trinis, she said. They have expressed interest in removing fat not only from the abdominal area but the arms, back and legs. The prices range from US$4,242 to US$5,359-they could go higher depending on the area.

Graham said many women between ages 18 and 40 have also been asking about rhinoplasty (nose jobs). "They come with nose deformities, wide noses and dropped tips. Occasionally the patient requires ear, nose and throat surgery," she said.

Graham said other procedures, still to be introduced to Trinidadians, were vaginal rejuvenation and buttocks tuck or enlargement.

"I think Trinidad and Tobago nationals were not aware that these surgeries can be accessed at such a low cost and so close to home. Now that it is being advertised, many people are calling to find out about the surgeries. I think it would soon become a big business here," she said.

Title: Miss USA Question About Gay Marriage
Post by: zuluwarrior on April 26, 2009, 08:59:32 AM
Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton was crowned Miss USA on Sunday, but the big story to come out of the normally politics-free telecast was Miss California's comments regarding gay marriage.

When asked by judge Perez Hilton, an openly gay gossip blogger, whether she believed in gay marriage, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, said "We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

Keith Lewis, who runs the Miss California competition, tells FOXNews.com that he was "saddened" by Prejean's statement.

"As co-director of the Miss California USA, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss California believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman," said Lewis in a statement. "I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit. I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone and religious beliefs have no politics in the Miss California family."

PHOTOS: Pics from last night's controversial show.

Co-director Shanna Moakler said that she fully supported Lewis' statement.

But Prejean told FOXNews.com that she has "no regrets" and is happy with the answer she gave.

PHOTOS: 10 beauty pageant scandals from years past.

Miss California's answer sparked a shouting match in the lobby after the show. "It's ugly," said Scott Ihrig, a gay man, who attended the pageant with his partner. "I think it's ridiculous that she got first runner-up. That is not the value of 95 percent of the people in this audience. Look around this audience and tell me how many gay men there are."

Charmaine Koonce, the mother of Miss New Mexico USA Bianca Matamoros-Koonce, argued back.

YOU DECIDE: Did Miss California's answer cost her the crown?

"In the Bible it says marriage is between Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve!"

The pageant had enjoyed a scandal-free year until earlier this month, when Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza was skewered for a blog posting from a trip to Guantanamo Bay. The entry described having "aloooot of fun" at a base that houses the notorious military prison; it was later deleted from the pageant's Web site.

POP TARTS: More on Miss California's "gay marriage answer" controversy.

The winner, Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton, a 22-year-old aspiring motivational speaker and entertainer from Wilmington, edged out first runner-up Miss California, and second runner-up Miss Arizona USA Alicia-Monique Blanco, of Phoenix.

"It feels really natural," Dalton said of her win. "I've worked so be here and this has been my lifelong dream and it's finally here. And whoever knew you could win in a turquoise gown?"

VIDEO: Did Miss California make a big mistake?

Contestants from all 50 states and the District of Columbia competed in the pageant, aired live on NBC. Contestants were judged by their performance in swimsuit and evening gown modeling contests and their responses to a question asked onstage; unlike the rival Miss America pageant, Miss USA contestants do not perform a talent.

The top 15 contestants worked the stage in white string bikinis designed by pop star Jessica Simpson's swimwear line. Rocker Kevin Rudolf performed his song "Let it Rock," followed by The Veronicas, who performed their single "Untouched" as the top 10 beauties showed off their choice of glittering evening gowns.

Dalton's was a flowing, blue Grecian number that stood out among a series of white gowns.

Her title comes with a year's use of a New York apartment, a public relations team, a two-year scholarship at the New York Film Academy and an undisclosed salary.

She also will go to the Bahamas in August to compete in the Miss Universe pageant, where American beauties haven't been lucky in recent years. Both Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart and her predecessor, Rachel Smith, wiped out on stage during the evening gown competition, becoming accidental YouTube stars.

Dont ask questions if you are not prepared for the answer .

As far as pagaents go she actually gave a great answer. She listened to the question and answered it without trying to shoehorn a prepared soundbite making reference to "world peace" or "the children are the future".

Whether the pagaent organizer or the audience agrees with her sentiment should be irrelevant. If she lost because of that then she get a raw deal. I need to look for the winners answer becuase I heard a clip on the radio recently that sounded very "Miss Teen South Carolina" esque. If that person win then it is really a shame.

But in anycase it is a pagaent we talking about. Poor judging is is to be expected.

The problem is that she stated that she was "raised" to believe certain things, implying that she has never given a moments thought as to her own prejudices or ever stepped outside of her comfort zone. IMO not too far off from saying "I was raised to believe that black people are inferior" or that she was raised to believe that only whites should be allowed to vote.

That said the woman eh say anything hateful. I find that this radical gay agenda thing getting a little tiresome and repressive. Imagine some idiot saying that she should not have placed because the audience was full of gay people. Last I checked it was Miss America not Miss Gay America.

How you infer all ah dat from what the woman said?  All that statement implies is that she still holds onto the belief that she was raised with.  For all you know her beliefs survived the introspection and second-guessing that many of us experience.

Her statement is that what she was taught form the basis of her beliefs. Nowhere did she state that she has put any independent thought into the topic. It is my suggestion, not my inference, that she probably has not engaged in much introspection.

Dred... read your statement again, you said her words imply that she's never stepped outside her comfort box etc. etc.  There simply isn't any such implication in her speech... if you say that's your suggestion then that's an entirely different matter.

That was a stupid question to ask and she handled the question very well. Perez Hilton is ah idiot who does only get attention form stunts like these. He making this a joke, and like this is what the girl does, very low from him. The pageant people should learn from this and generate their questions.

friggin cosigh zuluwarrior!!!! It's getting friggin ridiculous, how suddenly sodomy is supposed to be accepted like if it's as natural as the heterosexuality that allows human beings to reproduce and go on! It's ridiculous and disgusting. I won't accept that nonsense. I accept that people have complex issues with their sexuality they need to resolve, namely homosexuality, along with other things, but don't try to tell me it should be accepted and acted out, and not sorted out with a psycologist.

Kudos to Miss California, you looked absolutly lovely, and gave and excellent and very true answer, but too bad so many millions in America are ignorant about the truth on this topic, are unwilling or unable to put deeper though into it, are lying to themselves, or in denial.

These beauty pageants are just cattle shows anyway.
Naming a woman miss this or that for commercial reasons , no substance, they are de-meaning to womanhood.

Many of the ladies I have had encounters with are more beautiful , articulate, intelligent, physically nimble, have great vocal chords, very dexterious, make more money than them and never back down on their contracts. ( And they always provide the consumables)

lol allyuh iz really listen your yourselves?  promote homosexuality in a technical way?  What does that even mean? ...especially the part about "in a technical way"....

yuh feel homosexuality is a fete or what?

And why would the Ms USA organization be interested in their candidates "promoting" homosexuality?

Homosexuality is a sexual preference....ain't no promoting necessary breds.  Homos will be homos no matter the level of promotion.  Homos (and heteros) fighting for equal rights aren't interested in winning a popularity contest...

The pageant organization was probably attempting to showcase on a public platform the acceptance of different sexual preferences....maybe...who knows what the agenda (if any) was behind that question.  If anything they were indirectly attempting to promote acceptance/tolerance...

If that was the agenda, then it semi- backfired- I actually thought her answer was respectful.  She said that it's great that in America you have the ability to choose so she obviously showed some respect to those who are fighting for equal rights for same-sex couples....and then she stated her personal opinion.  I don't see the fuss (well I do see the fuss, but it shouldn't be a big deal in my opinion)...

I could totally understand too why that answer could cost her the crown-  I'm sure the Ms USA pageant org wants to promote themselves as a progressive organization, and currently her view on same sex marriage (rights) is not viewed as progressive, so in their opinion, an answer such as hers probably doesn't embody what they stand for.  If she made non-progressive statements about race, religion or politics or society in general it'd be the same thing...There's a reason why they ask those questions and I doubt it's just to see whether or not the girls can put together a full sentence (though that should be a measured criteria as well  ;D)... If the nature of her answer didn't have any bearing on her success in the competition, then it shouldn't have been asked... and if every contestant were to put together a politically correct canned answer for her question, then the section of the pageant would have no merit either.

The question wasn't anything planned by the Miss USA organization (from what I can tell), it was a question that Perez Hilton himself personally opted to ask.  There isn't anything "un progressive" or regressive about her response.  A response in support of homosexuality itself isn't necessarily 'progressive' either.  I thought she gave two responses... an objective one and a subjective one.  Objectively she stated that it's great that we live in the USA where people are free to choose same gender unions or heterosexual unions.  However she was asked her personal opinion ("what do YOU think") and thus also gave a personal response... sharing what her personal beliefs are, which is from a biblical perspective that homosexuality is wrong... and there is evidence to support that belief.

My understanding of these types of pageants is that the questions are meant to test the contestant's ability to think on their feet and give poised, articulate responses.  I think it's fair to dock her points for not being articulate, but if she's being judged on the content of her response then from an objective standpoint it's a very balanced response.  Perez Hilton was just being an ass for costing her the crown by scoring her negatively because he personally disagreed with her perspective.  His bias was later revealed in a follow up interview on The Today Show on NBC where they showed clips from his video blog where he called her a "stupid bitch" and what not.  THIS is the person Miss USA has judging their show?

Anyways, I think Miss California will be none the worse for this experience.

I hear you....and I agree as I said, I thought her response was a good one.  As you say, she was objective & respectful whilst stating her personal view.  As far as where the question came from, I don't claim to know that process but I would like to think that the pageant committee has/had some control over what is/was asked... or knowledge of the range of questions that can be permitted/asked...If otherwise, that could be a real scene lol...

About how progressive of unprogressive her response was, I'm not one to judge...I meant to state that it could be viewed as unprogressive an thus unrepresentative of the Miss USA pageant...but that of course is just my speculation.

I also find it difficult to imagine that the content of a contestant's answer will have no bearing on their success, regardless of how articulate and quick on her feet the contestant appeared to be... But it might just be my perception that these competitions are very politically charged.  Even if just subconsciously, I'd be surprised if unpopular responses are not more risky than the canned PC answer.

That said, I'm not surprised to learn that Perez Hilton let his personal bias get the better of him.... He's a celebrity gossip tabloid clown for f*ck sake....lol...

Kicker I think it's fair to take the content of the response into consideration as well... just disagree with holding her response against her because it doesn't square with your own personal beliefs.  Also, in the Today Show interview Hilton was talking about why he thought the question would be a good question... he didn't mention sharing it with anyone else or anything.  Maybe he did... but the impression was that this was definitely something he himself just brought to the table and thought would make a 'nice' challenge question.

right right I hear you...

Agreed those shows are a joke and like you I haven't watched one of them in ages.  I remember making a comment amongst coworkers in Trini when I was back there for a bit, that T&T hailing Wendy as a nat'l hero for winning Ms. Universe is a joke and borderline embarassing (I'm sorry but parading yourself on a stage in categories labeled "swimsuit", "nightgown" & "costume" in order to be judged on a points scale is so backward and pathetic I'm surprised that we still persist with that kinda sh*t in 2009).....and man wanted tuh blow me out yes lol.....
Title: Miss California to appear in ad for conservative group

Miss California to appear in ad for conservative group
CNN

Miss California Carrie Prejean, who declared her opposition to same-sex marriage during the Miss USA pageant, will star in a new $1.5 million ad campaign funded by the National Organization for Marriage.

The organization has scheduled a press conference with Prejean in Washington on Thursday to unveil the new ad, called "No Offense."

Prejean was roasted by same-sex marriage advocates after she stood up for what she called "opposite marriage" (marriage between a man and a woman) when responding to a question from celebrity blogger and pageant judge Perez Hilton.

Prejean has also become a fresh-faced standard-bearer for the same-sex marriage opponents, who have rallied to her defense.

"She is attacked viciously for having the courage to speak up for her truth and her values," the National Organization for Marriage said in a press release. "But Carrie's courage inspired a whole nation and a whole generation of young people because she chose to risk the Miss USA crown rather than be silent about her deepest moral values."

According to the group, the ad will call "gay marriage advocates to account for their unwillingness to debate the real issue: gay marriage has consequences."

The Miss California TV ad is the group's second. Their first, "A Gathering Storm," ran in several states earlier and featured actors issuing ominous warnings about the threats posed by same-sex marriage.

Executive directors and producers of the Miss California USA pageant released a statement Wednesday lamenting that Prejean had taken on such a "polarizing" issue.

"We are deeply saddened Carrie Prejean has forgotten her platform of the Special Olympics, her commitment to all Californians, and solidified her legacy as one that goes beyond the rights to voice her beliefs and instead reveals her opportunistic agenda," the group said.

These friggin basement dwellers want yuh to accept they buggery and if yuh doh accept it they want to chastize yuh . ::) ::) ::)Go away with alyuh buggery far far away.

friggin cosigh zuluwarrior!!!!

Kudos to Miss California, you looked absolutly lovely, and gave and excellent and very true answer, but too bad so many millions in America are ignorant about the truth on this topic, are unwilling or unable to put deeper though into it, are lying to themselves, or in denial.

chill out...what de hell is normal?

And cause you eh like bullin dat doh make it some sort of crime, nor does it make de bullers and dem sick!

There is so much education out there that shows the cause is very most likely genetic.  yet you spout so many ignorant millions in America!

stop the nonsense, leave de people and stop de hate.

dat said I feel marriage is fuh man and woman alone.

Ok, I know that was a bit abrasive, and also I don't hate homosexuals at all, in fact I know a few and I'm cool and friendly with them, even though they're openly gay, but that doesn't mean I agree with their lifestyle. The reason I was so harsh was because it just got me extremely angry that Perez asked her such a polarising question, and because she answers it in the way that infact most people worldwide feel, she's vilified for it.

Yeah, there's scientific research saying that it probably is genetic, but like most scientific studies, there are opposing views in the same scientific community. The entire media and a great amount of the scientific community has jumped on the Global Warming bandwagon, but there are still many very reputable scientists around the World who disagree with that theory. In the end all humans have free will, but this accepting homosexuality as something that should be lived out in public if those feelings come upon you is something new. If we can just introduce that into the list of things we accept as natural human lifestyle even as it's not been seen as such throughout most of history, what else can we introduce into our circle of accepted behavior that was previously seen as deviant. I can think of plenty arguments you can say against this, but that's my view. That's the path the world is going down, and a very dangerous one.

I got very angry to see Perez flauting his misguided beliefs and trying to tell the peope who have the historically accepted views on human sexuality and relationships that they should shut up and everyone gets behind him- the World has gone blasted MAD.

Facts also show that the rate of drug use is abnormally high in the homosexual community. Also, a very high percentage of people who turn homosexual were molested or sexually abused, or viceversa. Do you think that's a coincidence? Many people dismiss this, but I don't, I don't trust anyone in this world, noone, I think things through for myself and question science and accepted views, because there are so many agendas that sometimes fuels many scientific and medical things other than pure unbiased science and genuinely wanting the best for others- eg. Money. Sexual puts so much confusion in one's mind, that is part of the reason people turn into homosexuals, among MANY other variables. I understand that I have the much less politically correct view on the subject, but you too must look at the other side of homosexuality, that the very untrustworthy big media(CNN, etc) don't show you. Most homosexuals are not at peace with themselves, and constantly second guessing themselves and their life, which leads to depression and the drug use I mentioned above. Why? If everyone continues to encourage this homosexual lifestyle, it will be the end of man, as we won't replenish ourselves because too many people will be homosexual, I can already see the first nation that will go down because of this will be the US. That's because as I said, it is not natural for a human being to be in an emotional relationship that is with the same sex, and doesn't allow procreation.  Do some research on this topic that will never be shown in the main media.

Even though I disagree with the views on homosexuality the media is trying to kick down our throats, that doesn't mean I in any way dislike or much more hate homosexuals- the persons. I simply disagree with the largely held view in political-correctness gripped America. I totally understand that homosexual feelings can come upon many many people, and some stronger feelings than others, but I don't believe that one should just accept that those urges are natural and healthy. These feelings fueled by a great deal of very underexamined issues, a big one is childhood sexual abuse. I understand how strong these urges can be, so to be honest don't really have an argument with homosexuals in relationships and living together, because the homosexual feelings may be too strong to hold out, if they understand that  that lifestyle is not natural and healthy, and they are getting counselling. I totally disagree with them flauting in public homosexual parades and such like homosexuality should be accepted and applauded as healthy behaviour for humanbeings. Yeah yeah, I know my view are extremely politically incorrect and very against the views that the media in "The Greatest Nation on Earth" is trying to push, but I don't care one bit, I think independently and compare all inforation, news and facts with opposing views and research, then I inject my own reasoning and logic into it,I trust no one and questions everything, then mix them together and form my opinions. I don't care one bit about what the most visibly supported views are in the US. I'm always open to more knowledge, arguments and info though, from all sides.

This is not hate speech, it's love speech,as I won't accept and support homoexuality as it's simply not a healthy lifestyle physically and psychologically. All the homosexuals I know are very depressed people, one guy lived a very depressed and tragic life, and had an equaly tragic death, another friend is taking hormones to grow breasts, and is in serious psycological turmoil and I fear for him. In the same way I'll never accept girls doing porn as it's getting accepted today, because no matter how vehemently they deny it, the clear evidence is there to see that it's unhealthy for them physically and phschologically- just like the lifelong homosexual lifestyle. This is not hate speech, this is love speech.

Title: Gabrielle Walcott to represent T&T twice.
Post by: Flex on May 16, 2011, 04:18:52 AM
Gabrielle, twice a Miss TT queen
By Verdel Bishop Monday, May 16 2011

In 2008, Gabrielle Walcott represented this country on the Miss World stage. This year, she will represent this country again, but as Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago.

Walcott was among eight finalists who competed in the local leg of the competition at O2 Park, Chaguaramas, on Saturday night.

The women were judged on their appearance in bikinis and evening gowns and their performance in an interview.

Walcott, 26, was confident throughout the evening even when she was the first contestant to be questioned in the interview segment. Her question? “Everyone has a mission in life; what is your mission?”

Walcott answered that her mission is to make the lives of the less fortunate better and when she went on to discuss her role with the Just Because Foundation, it was clear she was a front-runner. She went on to win the crown.

After being crowned by TT’s Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam, Walcott told Newsday, she had waited 13 years to represent this country on the Miss Universe stage. She said ever since she met her mentor, Fitzwilliam years ago, she knew without a doubt she wanted to represent this country as the Miss Universe representative.

“To have Wendy crown me is a dream come true for me. I have waited 13 years for this and now it is happening. This is amazing,” Walcott said. Walcott, who has only four months to prepare for the 60th annual Miss Universe competition carded for Sao Paulo, Brazil, said there is no room for disappointment as she is prepared to represent this country with distinction.

Walcott’s prize package includes wardrobe valued at $50,000; a front line costume in Tribe, one-year gym membership with Long Circular Health and Fitness Club, one-year membership with Candice Clarke Dance Academy; an Elite Spa package; one-year medical and non-medical travel insurance courtesy Maritime Financial; a gift bag courtesy IOS and North Shore Medical and a gift bag courtesy Pantene.

Tobago entrants made a strong showing in the competition, as Shinequa Francis, 18, from Roxborough, was named first runner-up. Second runner-up was LaTisha Hospedales, 26, from Carnbee. They each had a very strong audience support.

Francis was adjudged Best Physique and Miss Top Model Trinidad and Tobago 2011.

Other winners were: Jessica Didieer, 20, Miss Congeniality and Cherrese De Abreau, 26, Miss Spirit of the Pageant.

Saturday night’s adjudicating panel included Wendy Fitzwilliam, Miss Universe 1998; Claudia Pegus, fashion designer; Kwesi Hopkinson, director, Scorch Magazine; Pat Butcher, executive director, TT Hospitality and Training Institute; Suzanne Sabeeny, former franchise holder, Miss Trinidad and Tobago; Michael Phillips, sporting icon; Sharon Imbert, former permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister and pageant coach and June Lexis-Matthew, vice-president, student development, COSTAATT.

A special tribute was paid to the late Kim Sabeeny, pioneer in the beauty pageant industry in this country. Sabeeney has the distinction of three international titles in her tenure as franchise holder: Miss Universe 1977 Janelle Penny Commissiong-Chow; Miss World 1986 Miss Giselle La Ronde-West and Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam.

Avionne Mark is TT’s Miss Universe 2012
Leiselle Maraj (Newsday), October 23 2012

Twenty-three-year-old Champs Fleurs resident, Avionne Mark emerged as a winner of the 2012 Miss Trinidad and Tobago Universe title at the finals of the competition held on Sunday evening at the National Academy for the Performing Arts, Port-of-Spain.

Mark was adjudged the best of the ten finalists chosen to compete for the crown by a panel of judges which included TT’s own Miss Universe 1977 Janelle Penny Commissiong and former Miss Trinidad and Tobago World, Valene Maharaj.

Mark will represent Trinidad and Tobago in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant which will be held on December 19, in Nevada, USA. On Sunday evening, contestants paraded in swimsuits and evening gowns before the top five were chosen to compete in a question and answer segment. When asked if given the opportunity by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to head any ministry, and why, Mark responded she would choose Tourism. She is pursuing a Bachelors of Science in International Tourism Management at the University of the West Indies at present, and her dream is to become a Tourism Ambassador.

“It would be a great opportunity to instill policy changes with regards to customer service in the Tourism industry of Trinidad and Tobago,” she told host Jason Williams and the audience. Mark also won the Spirit of Carnival special award during the show which was the culmination of Tribe Carnival’s first attempt at hosting the pageant, now that they are the new franchise holders.

Apart from winning the chance to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the Miss Universe pageant, Mark also received several make-up, hair and accessory prizes and a $10,000 cash prize and costume, courtesy Tribe. First runner-up at the pageant was Mauricia De Peza, second runner-up Ria Da Costa, third runner-up was Fan Favourite award recipient Sarah Jane Waddell, and rounding out the top five was Jessica Didier who also copped the Spirit of the Champion award.

The five finalists who did not place were Amanda Chedu, Sheneille Leelah, La Toya Franklyn, Mary Esdelle and Renee Bhagwandeen. The finalists were chosen after two casting calls held earlier this month.

I eh no beauty pageant fan because I think women are held to diffirent standards than men. But beauty pageants are not about a pretty face only. Some inteligence and 'intellect" does help too. On the night of the TT pageant, the one with the "looks" did not display her inteligence and intellect to please the judges. The one without the "looks" did.

I saw that she did a traditional indian dance in full indian wear for the costume or talent segment or whatever it was and it had me thinking. Is that really American culture? I feels so distant though. I could have sworn I was watching a contestant from India. How can you be representing a country as diverse as America and come with such as ethnocentric display? I understand that you are proud of your heritage and such but you representing everyone now, not just "your" people. I think she could have come with something more mainstream and unifying.

Miss Universe T&T stripped.
By Geisha Kowlessar (Guardian).

This country’s Miss Universe T&T pageant first runner-up Martrecia Alleyne is now being considered to replace stripped delegate Yvonne Clarke.

The local franchise holder for the pageant, Jenny Douglas, was weighing this option yesterday after she stripped Clarke of her title over an alleged breach of contract nine days before she was due to leave for the international event in Las Vegas.

Less than two weeks after winning the title, Clarke was told via email from Douglas that she would no longer be able to represent the country.

But during a press conference at the St James studio of soca artiste Fay Ann Lyons yesterday, Clarke demanded an apology from Douglas, saying she did nothing wrong in seeking sponsorship on her own, including from Lyons. She claimed she was left with no choice after all she received from Douglas was an “old black dress” and an admittance they did not have “all the resources” to get her to the competition.

“I asked her if there was anything else the franchise could give me beside a dress and she (Douglas) said no. I did not do anything without the authorisation of the franchise holder. She even sent me letterhead from the Miss Universe TT which to this day I did not use,” Clarke maintained at the press conference.

She said Douglas told her she could seek sponsorship from anyone locally “except from the Government.” She said from day one of the local pageant she felt something was wrong, as there were several “hiccups” along the way. This, she said, prompted her to document all her conversations with Douglas, including taping telephone conversations.

Saying she was forced to dip into her personal finances to prepare herself, Clarke said through a friend she was told to approach Lyons for help.

Lyons, Clarke said, had been instrumental in getting her a plane ticket, professional hair and make-up artists and even organising several professional photo shoots.

As she went through hardship getting sponsorship, Clarke, who broke down in tears at some points, said she also offered advice to Douglas regarding how to deal with issues on social media.

“I said to Jenny digital media management is important because she was getting into feuds with citizens on social media about the way in which the franchise was being run. I told her to avoid social media conflict because it not only brings the Miss Universe pageant into disrepute but it also brings me, as a delegate, into disrepute,” Clarke said.

“The reason why I am so hurt by this was because when T&T was bashing her and saying she was unprofessional I was the one who supported her.”

She also accused Douglas of deliberately withholding her contract after she signed it some months ago.

Douglas also hinted that Clarke may not have had a US visa but yesterday Clarke said she did.

Lyons, who also spoke, said she too wanted an apology from Douglas, as all she did was help a “beautiful and talented young lady” realise her dream. She described the incident as unfortunate, saying too many times “we as a people” refuse to support each other.

“I was very disappointed because some people had some ridiculous comments to make,” Lyons said.

In a statement yesterday, Douglas said, “The Miss Universe T&T committee has voted unanimously to disqualify Miss Yvonne Clarke from representing Trinidad and Tobago in this year’s Miss Universe 2017 Pageant competition.

“We are saddened by this turn of events, however, we have to maintain our strict contractual agreements. We will, however, make sure another suitable representative will go and who will abide by the Miss Universe T&T rules and regulations under their contractual agreement.”

In an interview with Guardian Media, Douglas also accused Clarke of making statements which “misrepresented” the franchise and of “being on television and begging for money.”

Worried about the image of T&T? There are several other matters of higher priority to be engaged ... without being hypersensitive to truths and laundry washed in public.
