With Cisse out and Rooney back in the mix for England, I might have to tweak my WC pool.

Not the same leg?  The man was just about to forge a pertnership with Henry.  Domenich had hinted that this was going to be his starting pair up front.  Hard luck.  He missed Euro for poor discipline, after he was banned for six for stomping on a player, now he will miss the World Cup.

Translated from French.

Wounded as of the 10th minute vis-a-vis in China, Djibril Cissé could suffer from a fracture of the right leg. A wound which should deprive the attacker of Blue of World. The headache starts for Raymond Domenech who must from now on find a substitute to him…    When the fate is baited… Deprived of the Euro 2004 because of a suspension bailed out with the Hopes, Djibril Cissé could see this time the World 2006 passing to him under the nose. Its establishment at the side of Thierry Henry vis-a-vis in China, the last match of preparation before France-Switzerland, could however have been the sign of a place from the eleven of the team of France the next week in Germany. But, as of the 10th minute, the attacker of Liverpool remains on the ground following an elbow with elbow with Zheng Zhi. After long minutes spent on the edge of the ground, surrounded by several urgentisites and the doctor of Blue the Jean-Pierre Paclet, Cissé is evacuated stage on stretcher with the 31e minute before being led in the hospital nearest.    The images leave little doubt and return in October 2004 when Djbril Cissé had been wounded vis-a-vis Blackburn at the time of the 11th day of First League. Verdict: double fracture tibia-fibula and six months far away from the grounds. This time, it is the right leg which released. With this wound, the World one could fly away well for Cissé which was in addition awaited side of Marseilles to initial its contract. “We do not have a final diagnosis yet. But good, one is anxious when one saw what occurred. For us, it would be dramatic”, simply commented on Raymond Domenech.    Anelka in reinforcement?    If the verdict were confirmed, this last should then find a substitute, the FIFA to him authorizing a replacement in the list of the 23 in the event of wound. If the selector remains faithful to its system with two attackers, the name of Nicolas Anelka would return naturally. But the attacker of Fenerbahçe did not really appreciate its setting with the variation. “I have the impression that Domenech recalled me in team of France in the Antilles right so that I tear, had denounced Anelka. Unfortunately for him, I marked. To believe that, as of the beginning, it had decided not to take to me. I think of deserving my place. If were to arrive from there there, why make me come? As usual, I was not judged on my sporting qualities”.    Remain to know which would be the answer of the terrible child of French football. “I will not look at the World one”, it had also prevented. Large absent from the list of the 23, Ludovic Giuly as for him had prevented that it would decline a possible invitation. “If there is a casualty, so much worse for him. I am not a m… I deserved more respect. Apparently, I do not even enter the list of the 30, nor of the 40…”, had declared the Inhabitant of Barcelona, currently on holiday in Australia.    But Domenech could also choose to re-examine its copy and of chambouler its diagram of play. While passing to only one attacker of point, Franck Ribéry could leave his role of joker. Johan Micoud, Robert Worse or Sidney Govou also present an offensive profile which could allure Domenech. But the files Micoud and Pires remain sensitive. The selector could then turn to the fish pond of the Hopes, stopped in semi-final of the Euro last week. But Jimmy Briand, Florent Sinama-Pongolle or Bryan Bergougnoux do not have the breadth of such a competition. The headache does nothing but start…

Now Saha could get a decent shot at selection..........I like France but I never rate Cisse or Trezegol. Much rather Saha or even Wilthord (but he old)

Riberry come on a get on for Frnace, If it was not for him they woulda be 1-1

Title: Cisse out of World Cup after breaking leg
Post by: kingman on June 07, 2006, 08:45:03 PM
(http://soccernet-att.espn.go.com/design05/i/players/worldcup/9282.jpg)

Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has been ruled out of the World Cup after fracturing his right tibia in tonight's friendly against China in St Etienne.

Cisse collapsed in agony after colliding with China captain Zhi Zheng in the 11th minute of a match France eventually won 3-1.

He lay prone for several minutes before being carried off on a stretcher with his leg attached to a splint.

Afterwards France coach Raymond Domenech confirmed the 24-year-old would not take part in Germany.

He said: 'Cisse went straight to the hospital where he is currently being operated on. He has an open fracture of the tibia.'

Cisse has scored nine goals in 30 games for France but Domenech must now call up a replacement with Fenerbahce's Nicolas Anelka and Barcelona's Ludovic Giuly already thought to be in the frame.

Domenech added: 'We don't know the name of his replacement yet, we want to take our time in order to make the right decision.

'This is a big shock and a huge trauma for the team.'

Cisse missed the majority of the 2004-05 season with a similar injury to his left leg, sustained in game against Blackburn at Ewood Park in October 2004.

In that instance he was initially ruled out for the rest of the season but returned sooner than expected and featured in Liverpool's Champions League final win over AC Milan last year.

He had joined up with the France squad with doubt surrounding his Liverpool future, however, with Marseille reportedly pursuing a deal.

The former Auxerre forward scored in last month's FA Cup final victory over West Ham but recently criticised manager Rafael Benitez and had looked likely to leave Anfield after the World Cup.

He was linked with moves to Marseille and Tottenham throughout the season but insisted during the last transfer window that he wanted to stay with Liverpool.

The injury overshadowed France's win in their final World Cup warm-up game, although it was another unconvincing performance from Domenech's men.

In the end, they were grateful to substitute Franck Ribery, who sparked a late rally as France netted twice in the closing stages.

First, the Marseille winger's cross from the left was comically shinned past his own goalkeeper on the volley by China defender Wang Yun.

Seconds later, Ribery played a neat one-two with Thierry Henry and, although he was beaten to the return by visiting keeper Li Leilei, the ball fell nicely for Henry to roll into the empty net from 30 yards.

Earlier, David Trezeguet, Cisse's replacement, put the hosts ahead only for Zhi to level from the spot.

Zinedine Zidane, making his last appearance in his native France before retiring after the World Cup, also missed a first-half penalty.

For all the players who miss out on the WC due to last-minute injuries, nothing is as tragic as losing a loved one as has happened to Mexican keeper Osvaldo Sanchez. So throughout all the uphoria of the next few days, spare a thought for the misfortunate...especially those whose misfortune has no reversal.

I was watching the video and the China man helped with that Cisse injury because he hooked Cisse's foot which sent him off balance and he wasn't able to negotiate the fall properly. This is his 2nd career threatening injruy and with God's grace, i hope he makes it back again.

Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse is out of the World Cup after breaking his right leg in France's friendly against China on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old was knocked off balance by a defender 10 minutes into the game and fell, his right leg twisting under him and buckling above the ankle.

Cisse, who had been tipped to leave Liverpool this summer, had immediate surgery on a fractured tibia.

France coach Raymond Domenech said: "He has an open fracture of the tibia."

Domenech added: "It's a vicious blow to all of us."

Cisse, who broke his left leg while playing for Liverpool in October 2004, had been linked with a move to Marseille after the World Cup.

Yeh i read in the Paper the other day that Benitez wanted to sell him to Marseille Or PSG and then use the money to buy another player. But now I guess nobody will want an injured player for as much money as before.
