REIGNING Miss India/T&T, Anushka Dube, is scheduled to compete in the Miss India Worldwide competition in New Jersey this Sunday, but is still unaware of whether she will be able to do so, as she has not yet been able to renew her passport or US Visa.
The 17-year-old Chaguanas native beat out 11 other finalists at the local level last May and is scheduled to compete against delegates from 21 other countries for the international crown.
Dube, speaking to the Express yesterday, said she had learned the date of the competition one month ago and attempted to renew her passport and obtain the new machine-readable passport on March 19.
She was informed that she would have to wait ten working days and her requests that it be expedited were initially refused. She was reportedly told by officers "this is not important enough" and "so what if you don't get to go".
"I representing Trinidad and Tobago, something for the country, and I hoped people would have some kind of patriotism," she said.
Dube noted that she visited the office four times and complained about long waiting periods and poor service. Yesterday, she and her mother went to the office and were successful in speaking directly with Chief Immigration Officer Herman Browne.
Browne later told the Express that Dube explained the problem to him and he had the passport expedited, but could not comment on what had occurred before.
Dube paid the fee for the passport and was told it should be ready today at 1 p.m. or "definitely" by tomorrow, the day she was supposed to arrive for the pageant. She is also yet to book her flight for the pageant.
Dube noted that if she arrived late she would miss some of the sub-competitions, which would result in her losing points and reducing her chances at winning. She added that if she is unable to attend, she would have to reimburse the pageant management the fee of US$5,000, which they had paid for her to enter the competition.
Dube said a lot of money had been spent on clothes for the pageant.
Contacted on the issue, chief co-ordinator of the local pageant, Mahendra Rampersad, said he had total faith and confidence in Dube and believes everything would be organised in time for the pageant.

Who remembers the country where it was hosted and the winners? I certainly don't.

As for de winner..steupse..i happy for de family since they recently lost a son in one of the big accidents on de highway in august las year. But Anya eh no beauty queen IMO..dat girl been trouble from day she born! Would have preferred Gabby or anyone else

This time it involves Miss Trinidad and Tobago 2008, Anya Ayoung-Chee, who was reportedly recorded having sex with her boyfriend, Wyatt Gallery, and another woman in a menage a trois.
Initial reports suggested the other woman was Miss Japan 2008, Hiroko Mima. However, late last night, TMZ reported that Gallery was speaking out in order to clear her name.
According to TMZ, Gallery confirmed Ayoung-Chee was in the tape with him and another woman, but the other woman was not Miss Japan.
Gallery went on to claim the video was swiped from his laptop while at a repair shop in Trinidad. The video itself, he reportedly told TMZ, was shot back in 2007.
"I feel horrible and embarrassed for Anya, her family and myself," he told TMZ, and suggested the leaking of the tape was done intentionally to damage her career.
The Miss Universe organization appeared to be distancing itself from this scandal. However, in a quote to TMZ, its statement that the video was shot "eight months after the pageant" would seem to conflict with Gallery's claim it was filmed in 2007.
Gallery tells us he has a legal team looking into the matter and plans on suing anyone who continues to distribute the tape.

The Miss Universe sex tape is only half as authentic as once believed -- one of the women in the scandalous video is NOT a world-class beauty pageant winner, this according to the conductor of the 3-way naked train himself.
TMZ spoke with Wyatt Gallery -- the fine arts photographer who was literally caught in the middle of the drama -- who tells us some scumbag ripped the footage from his laptop computer in an attempt to sabotage Miss Trinidad and Tobago's career.

TMZ spoke with Wyatt Gallery -- the fine arts photographer who was literally caught in the middle of the drama -- who tells us some scumbag ripped the footage from his laptop computer in an attempt to sabotage Miss Trinidad and Tobago's career.

Anya Ayoung Chee, the former beauty queen at the centre of a sex tape scandal, fired her New York publicist Mike Paul yesterday for ’misrepresenting her thoughts on the motives’ behind the release of the tape.
Speaking only through e-mail correspondence, the former Miss Trinidad and Tobago/Universe said Paul misrepresented her on two separate counts and that her thoughts were not in keeping with the information on the gossip website TMZ.
The international gossip site said Ayoung Chee’s photographer boyfriend, Wyatt Gallery, claimed ’intentional malice’ and aims of ’sabotage’ were behind the fast circulation of the sex tape.
’At this time I have not decided how to proceed. Once I decide, I will let you know,’ she said via e-mail, TV6 reported last night.
She has said that a media conference on the issue will be held after CHOGM as she ’does not want to embarrass the country’ in front of visitors and take away from the event.

i know we have had a couple of discussions on here about accents and what not. She is putting on his fake american bimbo accent that really isnt called for and is not the way she normally speaks.
For the local leg of the pageant, she didnt sound like this, as well as when she was interviewed on the hyperdrive radio show on 96.7 and other recent interviews where i have heard her speak.
why does she think she needs to speak like this to get ahead in the pageant.? In my opinion , all i think this is doing, is making her forgettable and just blending in with the other ladies who will be at the pageant. he doesnt stand out. just by these interviews alone
