Akudu Goodridge beaver keeps Rangers in top two.
By: Jovan Ravello (Guardian).

Akudo Goodridge hit four goals as Superstar Rangers FC continued to take full points with a 6-2 drubbing of Tobago’s Stokely Vale FC in round three of matches in the Sportworld National Super League at the Hasely Crawford Stadium yesterday.
Contesting the earlier match, Stokely Vale were desperate for their first win, having only managed a draw from their previous two matches of the competition. They took an early lead when Curtis Job opened the scoring in the fifth minute.
Rangers steadied themselves against the hardy Tobagonians, and Goodridge got the equaliser in the 29th minute. In the 45th minute Stokely Vale conceded a penalty that Colin Roberts converted to give them a 2-1 lead on the stroke of half-time.
Goodridge scored his second in the 59th and Todd Ryan put in Rangers fourth in the 62nd, before Goodridge finished his inspired performance with goals in the 75th and 87th minutes.
Maraval Youth Academy and Crab Connection shared the points as Shanton Olliverre’s double on either side of half-time was cancelled out by goals from Marvin Oliver and Kesim Blackford. Their game at the Trinity College, Moka, ground ended 2-2.
The Academy twice took the lead in the fifth and 71st minutes, but both Oliver and Blackford were able to get the equalisers for Connection midway through the first-half in the 20th and near the end of regulation in the 82nd respectively.
The fixture between Police and Media 21 FC at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, produced only one goal and ended 1-0 in Police’s favour in a match that featured seven bookings.
Wendell Joseph’s 67th minute goal was enough to give Police the three points in a match that saw Media 21’s Adrian Nunez (13th), Barry Gonzalez (21), Bobington King (23) and Dexter Jorsling (60).
Police’s Shala Julien was yellow carded in the 73rd and the 89th minutes for a pair of rash tackles and was sent off, while Richard Roy was the other Police player to receive a caution in the 87th minute of the hotly-contested match.
Newcomers Couva Players United won their first National Super League match in three tries when they defeated Angostura 1976 Phoenix 3-0 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago on Wednesday night.
Couva never allowed the home team to settle at the Dwight Yorke Stadium and were up by three goals after just over half-hour.
Anthony Thompson shot them ahead in the ninth minute, before Keith Williams (23rd) and Quami Knight (35th) also scored to kill off the Tobago team.
At the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Caroni won their second match of the season when edging M&M Harvard 2-1 in the night game of a double-header on Wednesday.
Alvin Xavier put Caroni ahead in the 24th minute, but the lead lasted just two minutes before former Trinidad and Tobago and Defence Force midfielder Dean Pacheco pulled Harvard level at 1-1 in the 26th. However, Kyle Cupid (42nd) got Caroni's winner near halftime.
At the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, last year's runaway leaders Joe Public continued their struggles when held 1-1 by East rivals WASA Clean & White, who had not landed a single point before the game.
In fact, Eastern Lions Joe Public had to come from behind through Carlington Smith (66th) after Brian Bain netted to put WASA ahead in the 56th minute.
Cordner scores five goals in women’s opener.
News: T&T Guardian.

Kenya Cordner banged in five goals, including a second half hat-trick as Real Dimension kicked off its campaign in the T&T Women’s Football Association League competition with a resounding 13-0 win over UWI at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva on Sunday.
Cordner, who is eyeing inclusion in the national women’s team that leave next week for a camp in the USA, got support from Janine Francois and Tyechia John.
In addition to Cordner’s first-half pair, Francois netted a hat-trick and Tyechia John, got two as their team rolled to a 7-0 lead at the interval.
Alania Burgin, a former national striker, also made a winning return to club football after a two-year hiatus, with two second half goals while Tamar Watson added the other.
Earlier on in the day, the 2005 league competition began with a parade of the participating clubs led by Joe Public, the reigning Women’s Premier Division league and FA winners.
The other clubs who will be competing in this year’s Premier Division are last year’s runner-up United Petrotrin and newly promoted Vandykes, winners of last season’s First Division.
Teams competing in the First Division are Rio Claro United, Central United, Arima Ball Masters and Memphis Sports Club.

Superstar Rangers suffer first defeat.
By: Jovan Ravello (Guardian).

Angostura 1976 Phoenix handed Sportworld National Super League leaders Superstar Rangers their first defeat of the 2005 competition at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo yesterday.
Rangers’ regular goalscorers, Akudu Goodridge and Josimar Belgrave, spurned a host of chances as their team fell 2-3 to Phoenix, who after six rounds of matches, held fifth position in the standings.
In the sixth minute, Lejandro Williams put Phoenix ahead as Rangers struggled in vain to find the target.
They doubled their lead in the 20th minute, courtesy Kevin Keith. Then, in the 36th minute, Keith put victory beyond his opponents’ reach as he got his second goal of the match.
Without starters Colin Roberts, Rayfer Ross and Lorne Joseph, who missed the match because of suspension, Rangers were a shadow of themselves, but managed to get back within a goal of their opponents when Claude Ryan scored in the 57th minute and Belgrave redeemed himself in the 74th, but their efforts were in vain.
Police, second to Rangers only on goal-difference, would have been pleased to know that the league leader went under in the earlier match.
Police was scheduled to play Stokely Vale FC at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, Tobago, at 5 pm yesterday and at least a draw would see them top the standings.
At the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Wasa Clean and White beat host side Couva Players United 3-1.
Before the match, the Couva footballers lay in sixth place on the standings with eight points, while Wasa trailed them by a point in seventh position. But from early on the Wasa players showed that they were the better team yesterday.
In the 28th minute, Sheldon Mondezie opened the scoring for Wasa and while Couva tried hard for an opening, Keston Thomas increased the lead for Wasa almost on the stroke of half-time.
Anthony Thompson shot back for Couva in the 69th minute before Anthony Dhanoolal assured Wasa’s victory with a goal in the 81st minute. Maraval Youth Academy and M&M Harvard literally fought to a goalless draw at the Trinity College ground, Moka.
The match was a scrappy affair and referee Richard Piper was forced to show yellow cards to four players — Maraval’s Lindsay Grell and Ricardo Jones in the 11th and 77th minutes respectively and Rayshaun Mars and Seon Jack in the 12th and 83rd minute for Harvard.

Superstar Rangers awake to beat Police 2-0.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Superstar Rangers recovered from their three-match winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Police in their Sportworld National Super League match at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.
Goals on in each half by Akudu Goodridge brought the victory. Akudu Goodridge got the first in the 21st minute and Todd Ryan scored the other in the 80th minute.
From almost immediately after the first goal, the match became increasingly physical and by the final whistle seven yellow cards were shown.
Police’s Karim Joseph (24th minute), Shaun Mc Letchie (44th), Anthony Campbell (53rd) and Wendell Joseph (60th) saw yellow while Rangers’ Lorne Joseph (8th), Goodridge (67) and Mario Asoon (81st) also got warning from the referee.
Tobagonian team Stokely Vale got its second win of the 2005 campaign in fine style, outscoring Media 21 5-2 on the Mount Hope Junior Secondary School’s ground.
Marvin Small got the first of his two goals for Media 21 in as early as the 17th minute and his team almost managed to hold on to the lead to the interval; but Keron Phillip equalised in the 44th minute.
Small got his team back into the lead when he completed his double in the 50th minute, but that led to the turning point in the match.
Sean Christmas brought Stokely Vale level again in the 58th minute; then Michael Carrington put in a pair of goals in the 62nd and 86th minutes and Phillip scored a second goal in the minute of stoppage time.
In that match, eight yellow cards were also shown — to Media 21’s Gairy Thompson (69th minute), Bobbington King (91st) and Real Didier (88th); and Stokely Vale’s Sean Christmas (45th), Shawn Job (69th), Jamon Quashie (70th), Curtis Job (70th) and Keron Phillip (85th).
The Media 21 footballers are yet to win a match and have only one point from a draw in nine matches.
On the Trinity College ground at Moka, Wasa Clean and White beat Maraval Youth Academy 3-1. Keon Hernandez opened the scoring in the 21st minute and Wasa held the lead until the 79th minute when Shaton Ollivierre equalised; but late goals from Keston Thomas (83rd minute) and Darren Lewis (90th) secured the win for Wasa.

Caseman earns Eastern Lions a point.
T&T Guardian.

Devon Caseman fired in a last-minute penalty to salvage a 2-2 draw for champion side Joe Public against Crab Connection in the Sportworld National Super Football League at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Tunapuna, on Wednesday.
With Police losing 2-0 to fourth-placed Superstar Rangers earlier in the day, leaders Joe Public and Crab Connection had a chance to take sole possession of top spot.
With the point earned, Crab Connection now leads on goal-difference from Police, the teams having 22 points each while Joe Public and Rangers are next with 21 each.
Marlon Warner handed Crab an early lead at Macoya when he netted in the seventh minute. That lead lasted until the 51st minute when Wolrey Wolfe tied the score for the Easter Lions.
Brian Wallace regained Connection the lead in the 66th minute and it seemed as though that would be enough for the team to take maximum three points from the match, until Caseman struck in the dying seconds from the penalty spot.
Crab Connection goalkeeper Edward Bernard needlessly bundled over Jamaican Roen Nelson in the penalty-area and Caseman obliged from the spot to garner a point for his club.
At the Dwight Yorke Stadium, in Bacolet, Tobago, Angostura 1976 Phoenix also needed some late heroics to get a share of the points against Plipdeco Caroni in a 3-3 draw.
Lejandro Williams kicked Phoenix into a 30th-minute lead while Hadyen Vincent got the Tobago team on even terms three minutes before the interval.
Seven minutes after the restart, Ryan Dipsingh put Caroni ahead for the first time, before Dominique Kerr levelled the score in the 68th minute. Kyle Cupid scored four minutes later to put Caroni ahead once more, only to see Hayden Moses get an 88th-minute goal to tie the score for Phoenix.
Anthony Thompson got two goals and Quami Knights and Jason Marcano one each to lead Rotiv Couva Players United, over M&M Harvard 4-2 at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.

Wednesday’s results:

SUPERSTAR RANGERS 2 (Akudu Goodridge 21st, Todd Ryan 80th) vs POLICE 0.

WASA CLEAN & WHITE 3 (Kien Hernandez 21st, Keston Thomas 83rd, Darin Lewis 90th) vs MARAVAL YOUTH ACADEMY 0.

Superstar Rangers batter Media 21
Trinidad Newsday

MARLON BOWEN and Don Morris scored two goals each as Superstar Rangers unleashed an 8-1 battering of cellar-placed Media 21 FC in the Sportworld Super League yesterday. The supporters who turned up at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo saw a goal blitz, as Bowen began and ended the scoring, in the sixth and 67th minutes respectively.

The veteran Morris netted in the 33rd and 40th minutes, while Akudu Goodridge (25th), Josimar Belgrave (38th), Marc Borde (47th) and Sayid Freitas (64th) chipped in with one apiece for Rangers, who remain in fourth spot with 36 points.

Ken Guy got the lone response for Media 21 in the 31st.

The prolific Neri Joseph equalised in the 74th minute as Police fought back to hold WASA Clean & White to a 1-1 draw at the WASA Ground, St Joseph.

Police stayed third on the standings with 37 points while WASA, who got a 65th minute opener from Darin Lewis, remained fifth with 34.

There was an unfortunate ending to the Maraval Youth Academy-PLIPDECO Caroni contest at the Trinity College Ground, Moka, Maraval. Caroni held a 2-1 lead before Maraval’s Joel Felician suffered a neck injury in the 90th minute.

Due to the length of time it took for an ambulance to arrive at the ground, the officials were forced to rule the game as an abandoned result.

And the scheduled battle between Couva Players United and Stokely Vale, at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, was cancelled due to flight problems which affected the Tobago-based outfit.

Superstar Rangers 8-1 winners in National Super League.
By: Jovan Ravello (Guardian).

Superstar Rangers recorded its biggest win in the National Sportworld Super League season, by trouncing Media 21 by eight goals to one on Wednesday, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.
Marlon Bowen opened the scoring in the sixth minute, Akudo Goodridge doubled the score in the 25th minute. But soon afterwards Media 21’s Kent Guy cut Rangers’ lead to one with a 31st- minute goal.
Rangers forged ahead again through Don Morris (33rd minute) Josimar Belgrave made it four for Rangers and Morris got his second five minutes before half-time. Marc Borde wasted no time after half time in getting on the scorecard and Said Freitas completed the rout in the 64th minute.

Police holds Wasa

At the Wasa ground, St Joseph, the hosts Wasa Clean and White were held to a 1-1 draw with Police. After a goalless first half, Wasa’s Darrin Lewis opened the scoring in the 65th minute, but Neri Joseph’s 74th minute goal for Police meant a sharing of the points.

Injured player stops match.

The Maraval Youth Academy versus Plipdeco Caroni fixture was abandoned after Maraval player, Joel Felicien suffered a neck injury. It was 65 minutes before an ambulance arrived, by which time it was too dark to continue the game at Trinity College ground. League officials have said that Felicien, who was taken to Port-of-Spain General Hospital, is now fine, though he will have to wear a neck brace for the next five days. The match will be replayed on Sunday at the same venue.

Super League clubs eye Toyota Classic upsets.
By: Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Joe Public and Crab Connection will both be hoping to make a big impact when they line up in the Toyota Classic quarterfinal round of matches against teams from the T&T Professional Football League Senior Division today. The inaugural Toyota Classic began with all seven clubs of the PFL and the top five clubs in the National Super League (at the end of round 15) going head-to-head for a total prize package of $70,000.
That field has now withered down to eight clubs who are still chasing the $30,000 top prize, while runners-up get $20,00, third collects $15,00 and fourth $5,000.
Having seen fellow Super League clubs, Superstar Rangers, WASA Clean & White and Police all taken their exit at the first-hurdle, the two remaining Super League clubs, who were both on first round byes, are desperate not to make their first match their last.
At the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, in the night’s first quarterfinal encounter, PFL front-runners and First Citizens Bank Cup holders, VIBE CT 105 W Connection will face off with United Petrotrin.
W Connection was one of four clubs on first-round byes, while the Oilmen avoided a first round exit, coming from 1-0 down to beat Rangers 4-3 and they also managed a 2-2 draw with today’s opponent in a recent league clash.
Two hours later, the “Eastern Lions” of Joe Public, boasting at least 10 over-seas players, will do battle with Caledonia AIA/Fire, 1-0 winners over Police in round 16 at the same venue.
While Joe Public have proven to be the team to beat in the Super League over the last two seasons, AIA/Fire has been an inconsistent bunch in the PFL, but are coming off a 2-0 win over Petrotrin in the league, setting the stage for quite a match.
An interesting double-header is also carded for the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo from 6 pm.
Coming off their 1-1 league draw at the same venue on Tuesday night, CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh and National Quarries North East Stars will go head-to-head for the fourth time this season in the first match.
Despite their poor league form, Stars have also managed to defeat Jabloteh twice in the league, 2-1 on both occasions, and are keen to keep that record intact.
However, Stars were not that convincing in the round-of-16 and only managed a 5-4 penalty shoot-out win over WASA after a 0-0 draw. In what is expected to be an even contest, Crab Connection will be anxious to do battle with Defence Force in the second match from 8pm.
But Crab Connection will need to be at their best to stop the high-flying “Teteron Boys,” 4-1 victorious over fellow PFL club Tobago United in the first round.
The winners of the W Connection/United Petrotrin quarterfinal will meet the winners of the Defence Force and Crab Connection clash for a place in the final, while the Joe Public/Caledonia winner and San Juan Jabloteh/North East Stars winner will face each other in a semifinal double-header on October 28 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. The final and third-place play-off will also be played at Mucurapo on November 4.

Today’s quarterfinal fixtures

Venue: Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.

W Connection vs United Petrotrin, 6pm. (A).

Joe Public vs Caledonia AIA Fire, 8pm. (C).

Venue: Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

San Juan Jabloteh vs National Quarries North East Stars, 6pm. (B).

Couva United outshoot Superstar Rangers.
By: Ian Prescott (Express).

It took about a minute to unravel all the early hard work that Couva Players United had done in their Sportworld National Super League match on Wednesday.
But after losing a three-goal lead and seeing their game fall to shreds, Couva Players started a remarkable recovery in the final ten minutes to win a 5-3 thriller over Superstar Rangers at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Afterwards, members of the Couva squad were boasting how their little team brought down the "big team" from St Ann's.
Two early goals from former St Benedict's College star St Nicholas Benjamin (14th & 20th) after a tenth minute opener from Eduardo Guadagnucci had the Couva team cruising at 3-0 after the first half hour.
And striker Quami Knights just missed adding a fourth in the 37th minute when turning Benjamin's pass wide of the far post.
At that stage, Rangers were being carved apart at the centre and even club owner Richard Fakoory must have been concerned.
Rangers fielded a team with a square defence that was soft down the middle and looked in danger of conceding every time the Central team attacked.
At the same time, Don Morris, their proven central defender, started in midfied, before drifting ineffectively into the forward line later on.
But just when they looked in danger of being overwhelmed, they got a life line when Couva goalkeeper Richard Grell gave away a penalty for a foul on Rangers striker Akudu Goodridge.
Rangers captain Colin Robert blasted in the spot kick to put his team closer at 3-1 in the 43rd minute. And seconds later Robert picked up a pass on the.
right of the Couva penalty area and rocked a hard shot into the net to make the score 3-2 in favour of Couva.
A minute later, lanky Morris met a crossball before diminutive keeper Grell and almost made it three goals for Rangers in as many minutes. Morris' header only just dropped wide of the Couva goalpost.
The tide had indeed turned in Rangers' favour and Couva's Benjamin was bickering with his teammates about their lack of effort.
Rangers began the second session by pinning Couva in their half.
Finally, their comeback was completed when a mix-up between Couva stopper Jason John and his goalkeeper allowed Josimar Belgrave to level the score at 3-3 in the 49th minute by tapping into an open net.
At that stage, Couva looked "well cooked", but Rangers made a meal of putting them away by missing a couple more chances.
The North team dominated most of the second half, until the last ten minutes when the combination of superior fitness and the introduction of striker Aaron Downing turned around the fortunes of Couva Players United.
Rangers simply ran out of steam and, against the run of play, Downing raced up the left and slipped the ball inside to Knights, who breached the centre of Rangers' defence, eluded goalkeeper Jason Bowen and scored in the 83rd minute. Two minutes later, Downing powered his way through the middle and again slipped the ball past the goalkeeper to complete the second remarkable comeback of the match.

Wednesday's National Super League Results:

Couva Players United 5 v Superstar Rangers 3

Superstar Rangers bid for Pro League.
By: Walter Alibey (Newsday).

Superstar Rangers is bidding to be accepted into top flight football —  the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League which kicks off April 8. This decision was made in the midst of the recent Carnival celebrations. Club chairman Richard Fakoory submitted an application to the T&T Pro League after lengthy discussions with the league’s officials and is waiting confidently for a positive response. Recently chairman of the Pro League,  Larry Romany revealed the competition would be upgraded to ten teams. The line-up has been boosted with the return of Joe Public Football Club as well as subsequent discussions with southern based Starworld Strikers which would also include them in the competition. According to Romany there was need for one more club and the St Ann’s-based team could well be the one to fill that position.
Fakoory is asking players from the different divisions in his club including the Open category, Under-18, Under-17 and Under-16 as well as all coaches and managers to be at the St Ann’s grounds on Sunday to organise the team for the competition. Since their inception some 40 years ago, the team has been the pride of the St Ann’s community building their home on a ground that is now proposed to accommodate an extension of Prime Minister Patrick Manning’s new multi-million dollar residence. Whether or not the Superstar Rangers unit will remain at the St Ann’s grounds is unsure, but Romany, at a recent press gathering told reporters that attempts are being made with the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SCOTT) for the upgrade of all community facilities which would then be given to the pro-league clubs.
He said the move is aimed at making the league more community based and therefore increase the support base for the competition. According to Romany, when this is done, clubs will be asked to hold coaching sessions and programmes something that Superstar Rangers have pioneered for the past 40 years. The club is been a household name in the domestic football league, and in particular the Northern Football Association (NFA) competition and the Semi-Professional Football League in which they featured regularly  among the top four teams. Rangers have also been unearthing and nurturing latent football talent making them a dominant force in  youth football.
Their successes at this level include their capture of the T&T Cup for Under-17s at three out of the four years staged. Superstar Rangers youths also copped the Republic Bank Cup among the Under-17s and the Pro League Knock Out last year. According to Fakoory, the loss of all his young players to the country’s bigger football clubs was a factor that influenced his decision to play in the T&T Pro League this year. Rangers have been the breeding ground for a number of this country’s top footballers among them former captain of the Strike Squad Clayton Morris, Marvin Faustin, Errol Mc Farlane Junior and Senior, Hutson Charles and Aurtis Whitley who is on Trinidad and Tobago’s World Cup bound team. Fakoory’s involvement with the Rangers has presented them with a sponsor — Superstar which has been associated with the club for the past 26 years.

Pending its entry into the T&T Professional Football League for the 2006 season, the adminstration of Superstar Rangers Football Club, one of this country’s oldest football institutions, has called a meeting for all its members to discuss its plans.
While the club is currently locked in negotiations with the Pro League’s adminstrative team, club chairman Richard Fakoory and members of the coaching and management staffs, will meet the members of the club’s Senior Under-18, Under-16 and Under-14 teams on President’s ground, St Ann’s, on Sunday from 7 am. Named the “Best Youth Club” of the 2005 season in the Media 21 Northern Football Association League, Rangers’ great organisation at all levels and abounding talent should make the club an asset to the Pro League.

Thanks! This is great news. I believe eventually the standard and "big guns" will even out. In that way we would not have all the tops player in north of Trinidad at San Juan Jabloteh. Likewise goes for when civic center comes out. Most of those quality players from W-Connection will return home to play. That would be great. Even the football out and i think there would be more competition.

Well this has been on the table every year Ranger say we want to join the Pro league but the entry fee is always the problem they don’t have the money for the entry fees and money to pay the player unless he has some big sponsors if we due get in the youth teams will show the country who’s the boss

They said Rangers is 40 year which is not a true statement its about 25 year it had a team called St Ann’s All Stars and that team was so good the younger players couldn’t make the team so they decide to start a new team and that’s how Ranger was formed I know this because my father was one of the founding members

Superstar Rangers looking for $600,000.
By Ian Prescott (Express).

Richard Fakoory does not have the backing of a financial conglomerate or even a rich FIFA official, but he is determined to make a successful effort at building a professional football team in Trinidad and Tobago.
Just two days ago, Fakoory was informed that his Superstar Rangers team was accepted into the T&T Pro League for the first time. It was news that he was eagerly awaiting. Fakoory's team has strong community links and he feels confident of attracting a following to his matches.
What he still needs to make his brave venture successful is outside investment . So far, his Pro League effort is based on personal financing.
"At the moment I don't have a sponsor. I need sponsorship to the tune of $500,000 to $600,000. Assistance like that could make a big difference and give me a big push in the Professional League. I expect to have a local part sponsor in the next few days. I also expect to land an international part sponsor in the next few weeks. If I am able to get that, it will make Rangers very competitive. I think I can do good, Rangers has always been a good team."
Fakoory already believes that he has the infrastructure and the personnel to make a successful transition to professional football.
The news of Rangers' impending move to the professional ranks has sparked the kind of enthusiasm within the team which Fakoory had not seen in years. For instance, although they finished fourth in the National Super League last year, Fakoory admitted to difficulty getting players out to training sessions.
Last year, Rangers produced a talented team that played football, but hardly ever trained together. However, already this year, 200 footballers of all age levels have turned out for the four teams which Rangers will field at senior and youth level.
"We had a quality team last year, but it was always difficult getting players out to train," Fakoory admits. "Because they were non-contracted, sometime you would get four or five and another day a different four or five."
Fakoory has already seen a change this year. Not only have his players been urging him to take the plunge into professional football, but he has also had inquiries from as far as Scotland from players trying to join his squad.
He is already considering bringing over James Baird, a 21-year-old Scottish goalkeeper who wants to play professional football in the Caribbean. Also expected to line up with Superstar Rangers is Ricky Charles, a Grenadian national team midfielder. It will be Charles' second stint with Rangers, having played here as a youngster during the days of the Trinidad and Tobago Semi-Pro Football League. Charles, now a 12-year veteran of the Grenadian team, scored in a 3-2 World Cup qualifying loss to the United States two years ago and has also played professionally in the US for the Columbus Crew.
Also returning to Rangers is winger Marc Borde and striker Errol McFarlane (Jr), who scored the goals during the early rounds of Trinidad and Tobago's successful World Cup qualifying campaign. McFarlane has played professional football in Lebanon and Iceland as well.
Fakoory also believes that he has an ace up his sleeve, in that he may have the most talented youth footballers in the country within his junior team. Eight of the players who led Fatima College to the 2005 Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) InterCol title are from Rangers.
Among them are national youth striker Chad De Freitas and 2005 SSFL MVP Machel James.
It is that talent which makes him boast: "I will give some trouble in the Pro League this year...at all levels."
Over the years, Rangers have developed and lost many good players, including World Cup bound midfielder Aurtis Whitley, who was one of six Rangers players who Fakoory took to CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh several years ago.
Back in 1999 when professional football began in this country, Rangers opted out because they did not have the finances to fund a professional football team. So Fakoory sent some of his best players -including Whitley - to Jabloteh, where he became a director and was in charge of running their team. But even though many players have moved on to more lucrative financial arrangements, Fakoory has somehow always been able to discover new talent.
"I think I have one of the best branded names in local football. That name Superstar Rangers is known for good football. And, it's all free. You don't know how many people call me every day asking me how much it will cost to bring their 10-year-old to play for us. Is true we have an application form stating that we charge $120, but that is just a FIFA regulation. We don't charge anybody...everything is for free. I have been lucky to have some really dedicated coaches working with me over the years such as Errol McFarlane Snr and "Gamba" Morris. They have always volunteered their time, but now that we have gone to professional football, we will have to see how we can reward these people."
Fakoory also wants to reward the people who have backed his team over the years by bringing out a strong professional team.
He remember the days when they brought out large crowds to the President's ground, St Ann's. But although they will now be based a stone's throw away at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Fakoory is still anticipating good St Ann's and Port of Spain support.
Because of the strong links Rangers have built with the people of St Ann's, Fakoory was tentatively toying with the thought of changing the name of his team to St Ann's Rangers.
But the San Juan businessman is reluctant to remove his Superstar brand name which has made Rangers a big name in local football. He may just have to compromise with a name such as St Ann's Superstar Rangers.

Superstar Rangers bubbling with enthusiasm.
By: Joel Villafana.

Superstar Rangers owner Richard Fakoory is a bubbling with joy over his club acceptance into the T&T Pro League for the 2006 season. Mr. Fakoory admitted it was a dream come true for his St.Anns based club to be accepted into the professional ranks.
“Since the T&T Pro League was introduced Superstar Rangers always wanted to be apart of it, we applied before now and we were denied, but we are overjoyed now that we have been accepted, there is a renewed enthusiasm in our training sessions over the last couple of days since our guys all heard the news—we are looking forward to showcase our youth programmes and we really want to represent our community in the best way we know how,” says Mr. Fakoory.
Superstar Rangers placed 4th in the National Super League last season, and after Crab Connection and Wasa Clean and White who placed 2nd and 3rd respectively pulled out of the race to enter the professional ranks, Superstar Rangers and champions Joe Public became the obvious choices for promotion.
Mr. Fakoory has admitted that financially it has been a challenge for him—and he stated, “We are not as financially strong as the Jabloteh’s, the W Connection’s and the Joe Public’s—but we are going to make it work, we are working with a small budget and while we will not be able to pay our players the big bucks, we had a meeting with the players explaining them that we are going out to perform to the best of our ability and we will not fail.”
The San Juan based businessman, is however optimistic that his team will do well, he told ttproleague.com, “For one thing we don’t want to be demoted, and assessing our resources I don’t see why we can’t finish in the middle of the pack among the ten clubs that will be competing,” Fakoory added he will be fielding a youthful squad with the bulk of his Super League team coming back, but he also has the likes of Marc Borde and Errol Mc Farlene who has some experience.
The Superstar Rangers boss concluded saying, “I am really feeling good about the upcoming season, I really think we can do well and give a good account of ourselves.”

I hope he gets his sponsorship. This might be a good time for him with football fever taking over Trini and all eyes on T&T, sponsors should be banging down the door to get on board some of these teams.

He played for Belmont Secondary at the intercol level.

why doesnt the T&T competition fuse with other countries football competitions in the neigbourhood?

the exposure expands the viewers and the teleivision rights too,so it might be easier to find sponsors and raise the quality, and the salaries of the players,so its possible to draw higher quality players so more viewers etc etc.sort of a positive spiral

Superstar Rangers in Toyota cup final.
...after taking down Army in penalty shootout.
By: Gordon Pierre (ttproleague).

On another night of the underdogs Superstar Rangers scored what could be considered another upset in the Toyota Classic beating Defence Force 8-7 on penalties after a 1-1 tie at the end of full time, in the first game of the Toyota Classic semi-finals at the Mannie Ramjohn stadium Marabella.
With the top four teams in the league standings all eliminated, Defence Force would have considered themselves favorites to win the 2006 Toyota Classic, but it was Superstar Rangers who were first into stride and Shem Mc Farlane should have done better when he shot wide in the 7th minute after being sent through.
He would however, do better two minutes later when he had a shot from 25 metres out saved by Kevin Graham in the Defence Force goal.
Defence force then got in the action, in the 12th minute Jerwyn Belthazar shot wide after a good build-up. After that the game was all Superstar Rangers with Goalkeeper Graham forced to make save after save as Rangers flooded forward.
Nevertheless, against the run of play Defence Force were awarded a penalty in the 41st minute when Michael Edwards was brought down by Milton Fabian Gomez who was booked for a last ditch tackle.
Defence Force captain Anton Pierre stepped up and scored pass Rangers keeper Shurland Awai to give the Army a 1-0 lead.
This goal seemed to inspire the Tetron Boys who lay siege on the Rangers goal for the rest of the first half.
The second half started much like the first with Rangers enjoying the majority of the possession and should have gone ahead in the 51st minute but Shem Mc Farlane headed overbar from inside the 6-yard box.
Seven minutes later older brother Errol would get it right heading home pass keeper Graham to tie the game at 1-1 and the game was now really on.
Two minutes later Army would be awarded another penalty for another foul on Michael Edwards in the box, again it was captain Pierre that stepped up, but this time he blazed his shot overbar to the disappointment of the Army fans present.
The combination of the Rangers goal and the missed penalty added new life into the Armys attack, but substitute Christian paw boy Baptiste shot overbar in the 64th minute and then straight at Rangers keeper in the 67th after some nice build-ups from the Defence Force.
In the end Superstar Rangers keeper Shurland Awai would be the hero for his team saving the ninth Army penalty kicked by Kevon Carter to give his team a win 8-7 on penalties. Rangers advance to the final of the Toyota Classic and will meet United Petrotrin next Friday to decide the winner of the 2006 Toyota Classic.

Clayton Morris & Richard Piper join Superstar Rangers technical staff.
By: Vinod Narwani (ttproleague).

Former national captain Clayton Morris has joined forces with St. Anns-based club Superstar Rangers as Director of Youth Programmes, and will assist Head coach Anthony Streete when required.
This was confirmed by club chairman Richard Fakoory, who added that former football referee Richard Piper is also the new manager at the club.
They both are on board officially and they both have started working already, said Fakoory.
We started our training on Wednesday, and Clayton starts his training with the youths this weekend, having already accumulated his group of youngsters and his assistant coaches.
Fakoory said Morris has an attachment to the club since he was a part of Rangers in his earlier days.
Clayton is one of the original figures of Superstar Rangers, he grew up in St. Anns. He played at Presidents Grounds and over the years he wanted to give back to his community and his family. He is excited and delighted about wanting to take us to another level, and I know our youngsters would all be looking forward to work with such a local icon.
Morris captained Trinidad and Tobagos Strike Squad which narrowly missed out on qualifying for the 1990 World Cup in Italy, following their 1-0 loss to the USA in the CONCACAF qualifier at the then National Stadium, Port-of-Spain.
Regarding Pipers appointment as manager, Fakoory said the former football referee finally decided to make the decision following several discussions in the past.
Piper is a professional in what he does, and I have been a friend of Piper for over 20 years.
He has been an established referee and we have always been in talks for him to come on board. When I spoke to him in early January 2007, he finally said he was ready for it and knew he had to call it quits as a referee.
Fakoory also had words of praise for Piper whom he said had the qualifications to do the best job possible in taking the club forward.
He is going to take a lot of pressure off the Board of Directors which mainly comprises Alan Cabral, Kirk De Freitas and me. Piper is going to oversee the whole of Rangers programme. We are going to form an academy this year and take care of the youngsters.
From last years performance and the few resources that we had, and what we accomplished, I am hoping that both Piper and Morris would take us to bigger and batter things in 2007, ended the Rangers chairman.
Superstar Rangers enjoyed a decent run in the very first season in the TT Pro League, finishing 6th on the 2006 league standings, while also made it all the way to the Toyota Classic final, where they were beaten by United Petrotin.
Morris looks to set high standards at Superstar Rangers.

Former national captain Clayton Morris is enthusiastic about his new job as Director of Youth Programmes at Superstar Rangers.
Morris, who played at the St. Anns-based club in his earlier days, is expected to start working with the youngsters from Saturday (February 10), with the intention of taking them to a next level.
The first goal of mine is to shape the youngsters, said Morris.
When I got a look at them, I noticed that they possessed the talent, they know how to play football, but they must do it with discipline and in a more constructive way. My main focus is to guide the guys and keep them focused with the emphasis being disciplined.
Morris said working with the future generation is going to be an enjoyable challenge, adding that he is familiar with most of the faces under his guidance.
A lot of the players are related to me in some way family, nephews, what have you. St. Anns is the community that moulded me into the person and the player I turned out to be, and I just want to give that back to the community.
Rangers chairman Richard Fakoory was instrumental in attaining the services of the ex-Strike Squad skipper.
Morris said he has a good relationship with the top man at the club.
I am glad to say that I have a good rapport with Mr. Fakoory. It just happened that when Mr. Fakoory joined up with Rangers, I had already left for ECM Motown and then ASL Trintoc. However, we still maintained a good rapport and camaraderie, and it was good to see that he came forward to assist financially with the development of football in St. Anns.
Morris is also expected to work with coach Anthony Streete, who is in-charge of the senior team at the club.
Morris, however, emphasized his task is to deal with the youth at the club.
The senior players are already moulded into what they want to be.
There is not much you can do with that, but I will help Mr. Streete when he needs me.
At the same time, Morris said it would be a pleasure working with the coach of the St. Anns side.
Streete and I go a long way back since we both played for Trintoc and ECM Motown. It is, therefore, going to be a joy working with him.
However, I am more focused on taking the youngsters forward with the hope of continuing to work with them when they reach the senior level, said the former Strike Squad Captain.

Colombian Milton Gomez named Superstar Rangers 2006 MVP
Tuesday, 03 April 2007
By Randy Bando...

Superstar Rangers Colombian defender Milton Gomez was named Most Valuable Player of the Pro League Club on Saturday night at their 2006 Awards function at the Ballroom of the Cascadia Hotel, St Anns.

Gomez known for his thunderous free kicks won the award ahead of fellow awardees Dean Pacheco and Errol Mc Farlane after joining the Club midway through the 2006 season.

The clubs president and prominent lawyer Mr. Desmond Allum presented the top award.
Coach Anthony Streete of the St Anns based Club spoke with ttproleague.com and fully supports the choice of MVP.

He is the man. Milton is always fighting for the team and his performance has helped us a lot during last season. He has done well in defence and also from the dead-ball situations. All this attributes to him being named the MVP of last season. He has touched my heart as a player giving it his all, ended Streete.

Gomez played a key role in Superstar Rangers sixth place finish in the League and their runners-up performance in the Toyota Classic final.

Colombian Milton Gomez named Superstar Rangers 2006 MVP
By Randy Bando (ttproleague.com)

Rangers hammer newcomers Police 4-1
Sunday, 15 April 2007
Vinod Narwani Reports

HASELY CRAWFORD STADIUM Superstar Rangers FC showed their dominance over TT Pro League debutants Police FC in their opening clash of the 2007 season at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port-of-Spain, on Saturday night.

The St. Anns based-club, playing in their second season at the top flight, had to overcome a minor obstacle in the form of a 1-0 lead by the Lawmen, before demolishing the newcomers with a combination of determination, experience and flair.

Rangers started off positively in front of an appreciative crowd by testing Police custodian Ryan Edwards in the 2nd minute of play.

Following an infringement just outside the box by the Lawmen, Rangers were awarded a free kick which star player Kerwin Jemmott hit straight at Edwards.

Even though the goalkeeper comfortably took it, it was a sign that the men in red and blue were going all out to make things difficult for Police.

Rangers skipper Errol Mc Farlene then tried to get his side on the score sheet by slotting a decent ball to Christon Thomas on the left in the 11th minute, only for Thomas to hit it tamely and off-target.

The fans were, however, given a surprise when the Lawmen drew first blood in the 18th minute courtesy Kenwin Matthew.

There was a solid build up which led to captain Neri Joseph distributing the ball to Curt Danclair on the left flank, his floating pass finding the head of Matthew for the opening item.

But Rangers hit back four minutes before the half-time whistle following a corner, resulting in Jemmott ballooning a teaser across the goal-mouth for Devon Modeste to head home the equalizer.

Rangers kept pressing for the lead and were rewarded for their efforts in the 53rd minute, Marc Borde slotting home after the ball was flicked to him, following a well-taken corner kick.

The night was not over for the St. Anns lads as was shown by their captain who had a major hand in the remaining two items to follow.

Mc Farlene banged a powerful header straight to the Police custodian, but his point blank save ricocheted towards hungry substitute Shem McFarlene who slammed home Rangers insurance item in the 76th minute. It was 3-1 at that stage.

The Rangers skipper then scored the goal of the night three minutes later to justify why he deserved the man-of-the-match award.

Standing inside the box, Mc Farlene received a ball and with the simplest of ease back-heeled a flick towards the far corner to the delight of everyone.

Not only was the keeper bemused, the players, officials and fans had lots to talk about after such a display by the men from St. Anns.

Rangers shoot down 'Stars'
By: Kern De Freitas (Express).

Four second half goals turned what started out as a bland T&T Pro League encounter into a 3-1 victory for Superstar Rangers over Economy North East Stars at the Hasely Crawford Stadium yesterday.
Josimar Belgrave will gladly accept the blame for turning the match around, as he struck in the 59th minute, just three minutes after he took the field, to help inspire the victory.
A powerful shot from Shem McFarlane and a late, beautiful long-distance effort from Rangers Under-20 player Corneal Thomas made sure Rangers' party would not be spoiled by the Sangre Grande-based outfit.
Before that, the teams--perhaps owing to the rainy conditions and resultant slippery outfield--failed to excite the small crowd, with few chances on goal and some costly misses. North East Stars, in hindsight, would rue each and every opportunity they let slip by them.
Stars' ploy of crowding out Rangers' main striker and skipper Errol McFarlane Jr worked wonders. The big forward, along with strike partner Shem McFarlane was kept in check for long periods, with neither team grabbing the advantage in the first half.
In the 56th, Rangers brought on Belgrave to bring some life into the midfield. That tactic paid almost immediate dividends, as he sprinted past a defender on his fresh pair of legs to intercept a diagonal pass on the right from Ricardo Aleong. Belgrave's first touch was not convincing, but he kept his composure to slot home between the near post and advancing North East Stars custodian Curtis Granger.
That sparked life into Rangers' effort and they surged forward, looking to double their advantage. Stars, who looked the more likely to score at the resumption, suddenly had to defend from a barrage of attempts that rained on them. Belgrave tried his luck with another through pass, this time on the right, but was squeezed out by defender Keryn Navarro.
Shem McFarlane would not be denied, though. He gleefully accepted a long ball from Aleong, and turned first time to blast past Granger in the 69th.
North East Stars were not ready to give up yet and Guyanese striker Randolph Jerome pulled one back in the 78th, booting in a sharp cross past Rangers goalie Shane Mattis from close range.
Rangers should count themselves lucky to survive the ensuing assault. But Jerome missed from close range a minute later and Carlon Hughes misfired twice from six metres with Mattis at his mercy.
Two minutes from time, Thomas produced the goal of the game. He raced into space on the right flank and had just crossed halfline when he looked up and spotted Granger off his line. National goalkeeper Marvin Phillip must have looked up from Stars' bench and cringed when he saw the floater soar, dip, and sink into the near post, to seal the issue in their opponents' favour.
The victory not only gave Rangers victory over Stars, but a superior goal difference, which sees them replace Stars in sixth position on the Pro League table.

Title: Superstar Rangers player Kerwin Cooper shot dead.

Rangers rocked by Cooper murder.
By: Lasana Liburd (Express).

Superstar Rangers chairman Richard Fakoory said he was in a state of shock after the weekend murder of midfielder Kerwin Cooper and revealed that the club would look at the mental state of their players on the eve of a crucial T&T Pro League fixture against United Petrotrin.
Rangers are five points shy of a place in the Pro League's "Big Six" competition with two matches remaining but their precarious league position paled in comparison with Cooper's slaying and the revelation that a 23-year-old first team player narrowly escaped being harmed as well.
The player, according to Fakoory, was liming with Cooper in Bournes Road, St James on Saturday night and just walked away when the fatal shots were fired. The player and Cooper's younger brother, Sean Cooper, rushed him to the hospital but he succumbed to his injuries roughly six hours later.
Sean, a talented winger and former national youth team member, is on Joe Public's roster and is one of a handful of Trinidad and Tobago players to have plied their trade in Portugal.
Kerwin Cooper, 27, did not possess the same ability but was good enough to win a place at Rangers for the past six years and represented them in the 2007 Pro League.
His playing time was cut short, two months ago, when he was charged with possession of ammunition and marijuana. The Rangers players, on their own volition, pooled resources together to post the $25,000 bail for the popular player last week. Cooper was murdered within days.
Fakoory said his manager, Richard Piper, will attempt to gauge the mental state of his troops in practice today before deciding if special counselling is necessary. He will ask Petrotrin to allow a tribute before their clash tomorrow.
"We will ask for a minute's silence and we will wear armbands," said Fakoory. "Brian Williams (Petrotrin coach) has always had a good relationship with Rangers and I am sure he will allow it."
Trinidad and Tobago Pro League CEO and former "Strike Squad" player Dexter Skeene also extended condolences to Cooper's family and said his passing further highlights the important role that sport must play in nation building.
"It is a sad moment for all involved and the Pro League as well," said Skeene yesterday. "It emphasises the importance of the Pro League too and the role we have to play in keeping the youths of the nation occupied in a positive manner.
"I have to extend condolences to his parents and the family."
Clayton Morris, vice-president of the Football Players Association of Trinidad and Tobago (FPATT) and a former national stand out, also expressed his remorse at the fatal shooting.
Morris said FPATT president Shaka Hislop was preparing a statement on the incident and he did not wish to pre-empt him but assured the club that the organisation would put a wreath together and be present at his funeral.

Weekend murders push toll to 300

Professional football league player Kerwin Cooper was shot and killed on Saturday night. Police reports stated that around 11 p.m., Cooper was liming with friends when a silver car pulled alongside the group and a lone masked man came out the car and started shooting in Cooper's direction. Cooper, 27, a Superstar Rangers player was shot in the head and about the body. He died at the scene.
Homicide investigators say they are yet to establish a motive for the killing but said about two months ago Cooper was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of ammunition after Western Division officers executed a search warrant at his home. He was given $25,000 bail to cover the charges.
In an unrelated incident, investigations are continuing into the murder of Eustace Chase. Chase, 40, of Upper Bournes Road, St James, was shot while walking along Bournes Road on Saturday afternoon. He was rushed to hospital and subsequently died around 5.30 p.m.
In another incident, a secondary school pupil, Rondell Taylor, remains a patient at the Port of Spain General Hospital in a stable condition after being shot by a stray bullet on Saturday night.
Taylor, 16, of Bain Street, Carenage, was shot while liming with a group of friends at Point Cumana, Carenage. And investigations are still continuing into the body of a unidentified man found at El Socorro South on Saturday.
The body was found near a river and had several wounds. There was a double murder last night at St James, taking the murder toll to 300 for the year.

Title: St Anns Rangers look for boost
Post by: Bally on December 19, 2008, 02:13:21 PM

St Anns Rangers are well aware that a full complement of players will be needed for Fridays Toyota Classic final against 2008 League and Big Six champions CLICO San Juan Jabloteh at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Team manager Richard Piper explained to ttproleague.com that efforts are currently ongoing to have Errol Mc Farlane in the squad for Fridays clash.

Mc Farlane is back in Trinidad after his Lebanon based club Al Mubarah FC terminated his loan deal last month. Mc Farlane left Rangers during the season join Al Mubarah and now the St Anns based side is hoping to have him back into the fold.

We are still awaiting his international clearance from Al Mubarah as requested by the TTFF(Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation), said Piper. But until now the TTFF hasnt received the document but we are still hopeful.

Mc Farlanes deal with Al Mubarah was terminated while the striker was on national duty with the Trinidad and Tobago national team during the Digicel Caribbean Championship.

He scored three goals in two matches for T&T against Barbados and Jamaica however the Soca Warriors failed to advance into the quarterfinals.

Rangers are also looking forward to key players Ricky Charles and Shane Rennie back in the squad in time for Fridays final.

The Grenadian duo helped their national side into the final of the Caribbean Championship against hosts Jamaica on Sunday but went under 2-0 by two strikes registered from the penalty spot with the Reggae Boys lifted their fourth regional title.

However the pair will be on a high following their display throughout the regional tournament.

They are expected to leave Jamaica today(Tuesday) for Grenada together with the rest of their national team before making their trip to Trinidad and will only arrive on Friday morning to team up with the Anthony Streete coached team.

Rangers are also hoping to have Josimar Belgrave in their squad for Fridays clash. The Rangers goalscorer has been out of action for the past six weeksfirst sidelined with a groin injury followed by a case of dengue according to Piper.

He (Josimar Belgrave) is coming along well. We expect to have him in our squad on Friday. If we have all our players available like Errol (Mc Farlane), Shane Rennie and Ricky Charles then I dont see starting. But im sure he will finish the match, said Piper.

Piper also assured that Rangers will be giving it their best against Jabloteh.

This is our time for glory. We have had a poor run in the League this season so we need to whats needed on Friday.

Rangers closest run to a title this season was their third place finish in the First Citizens Cup in which they defeating Jabloteh.

Bateau out: Rangers return to Streete for rest of season
By Lasana Liburd (Wired868)

Bottom placed Pro League club St Anns Rangers has parted ways with head coach Gilbert Bateau and is set to finish the season with former boss Anthony Streete.

Streete, who steered Club Sando to second place in the 2013/14 Super League, has accepted the job on a temporary basis after an arrangement with Rangers and Sando but has vowed to return to the San Fernando-based team, which has Pro League ambitions of his own.

Nonetheless, Streete told Wired868 that he is happy to help Rangers despite being released by owner Richard Fakoory in 2012.

They called and asked me if I could help them out a bit, said Streete. So I spoke to my superiors and the permission was granted and it was finalised this morning

Rangers was never out of my heart because it is the first team I was officially the head coach of in the Pro League and for five years. I always felt I would go back at some point even if it was at the end of my career.
Fakoory explained that he sacked Streete, two years ago, because he wanted to try something different. After two coaches during that time frame, former World Youth Cup stand-out Dean Pacheco and Bateau, the Rangers owner decided that maybe Streete is the best available candidate after all.

We werent pleased with the results, said Fakoory. I liked the discipline and Bateaus whole attitude towards football...

But maybe we were not getting the right blend and we felt sometimes that players were being used out of position

Ironically, Fakoorys decision came a day after Rangers produced arguably its best performance of the year despite falling 2-1 to Point Fortin Civic at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Tuesday.

Bateau told Wired868 that he felt he did as well as could be expected with a team that often featured as many as five teenagers in the starting line-up and had an average age of just over 20. In the past 15 months, Rangers have lost an array of players to rival teams including Jan-Michael Williams, Jamal Jack, Jason Marcano, Hector Sam, Keron Cummings, Conrad Smith, Clevon McFee, Dwane Smith and Duran Dilworth. And the average age of the team only dropped noticeably in January transfer window.

Whatever the issues, Bateau insisted there was no animosity and he only wished to speak positively about Rangers.

I had school footballers who were good in their school but the level here is different, said Beateau. I indicated to them that they needed an incubation period to win games at this level and that they had to get the jitters out of the way and so on. To put up a performance like that against Civic and then have the (Rangers) management do that

But the management felt the investment they made wasnt paying off and they have a right because it is their club. So there is no animosity.

Within six hours of his dismissal, Bateau was re-hired by his former employer, San Juan Jabloteh, where he will work as assistant coach alongside head coach Kevin Jeffrey and fellow assistant, Nigel Henry.

He left us for a better position, said Jabloteh CEO Azaad Khan, but we always said he could come back to us at any time because he is very, very good.

Fakoory admitted that Bateau was on thin ice for some time before he finally lost the faith of the management after a 4-0 loss to Police FC last Saturday. Rangers managed one win and 18 defeats from its 19 league games this season. However, the young squad was often commended for its pluck and structure and was rarely outclassed.

We were not happy with the results and the Police game tripped me off and (Director of Operations Richard Piper and I) agreed that we had to make a change, said Fakoory. I knew the last game was very good but I cant go on one game. I have to go on a series of games and we have scored two goals in (12) games this year.

Cue Streete who accepted the task of delivering points from Rangers last five league games. He will hold his first session with the squad tomorrow and will have some bedding-in time as his club enjoys a bye this weekend.

The goal is to move them off the three points and see how far they could progress, said Streete. I always watch them play and I like the direction they are going in with the youths. But this is just part-time until the end of the season and then they have to look for a coach.

Once Club Sando comes in the Pro League, I am (with) Club Sando.

And what if Club Sando does not win a Pro League place?

Well, then I will have to make a professional decision, said Streete. But I am happy with Sando.

Fakoory hinted that a positive end to the season might strengthen the clubs resolve to hire Streete on a permanent basis if the opportunity presents itself.

If I get points in three of the last five games and do well in the (Lucozade Sport Goal Shield or Digicel Pro Bowl), I will be pleased, said Fakoory. I think the players are ready to go and we felt it was better to make the (coaching) move now than to wait until the end the season, start next season with a new coach and then realise after two months that it was not working.

I know (Streete) has a love for Sando; but he does have a special love for Rangers as well and he always wanted a second chance

Rangers next league match is likely to be against Jabloteh. It should be a tasty one for Bateau and Streete.

When are you going to win something and why are you in the game? What is your purpose for owning a team?  :pissedoff: :banginghead: :cursing: :'( :bs:

Rangers and MIC-Institute of Technology team up to offer players football and tertiary education skills.
ttproleague.com.

Professional football club St. Ann's Rangers and Metal Industries Company Institute of Technology (MIC-IT) have teamed up in a historic partnership that provides an incredible two-fold opportunity to young men and women of Trinidad and Tobago.

The first of its kind in the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League era, the focus of the partnership which will initially run for three years is geared towards allowing aspiring professional footballers an opportunity to continue their education and technical skills up to tertiary level and beyond.

As a result, the football club will now be called MIC-IT St. Anns Rangers or simply MIC-IT STAR ahead of the new 2017 TTPL season which kicks off in late May.

[The partnership] is destined for greatness, said MIC-IT St. Anns Rangers general manager Jason Spence during the unveiling of the partnership last Friday at the MIC Institute of Technology head coach in Macoya.

MIC Institute of Technology, an accredited institution which offers training to men and women from age 17 to 50, is an agency of the Ministry of Education Tertiary Education Division. Its mission is to be a catalyst for developing national technical and vocational competencies for competitive industries through quality training, innovation, manufacturing and engineering products and services.

The partnership will benefit players of MIC-IT STAR Under-19 team, Womens Team and the professional team.

Shem Alexander, Sports Specialist at MIC-IT, and close friend Adrian Romain were the architects of the MIC-IT STAR partnership.

Alexander, a former midfielder at St. Anns Rangers, said the partnership will be mutually beneficial to both parties. He said the Sports and Mentorship departments along with the Marketing Division of MIC-IT are always committed to the new and innovative means of enhancing trainee life and helping to attract more trainees into their programme.

Both MIC-IT and St. Anns Rangers are fully committed in pooling our resources to achieve our goals, added Alexander.

Alexander also said that Richard Fakoory, who co-owns the St. Anns-based club with Richard Piper, wasnt only excited about the number of youths he would see turning away from a life of crime, but also the opportunity for them to be educated.

MIC-IT has achieved a number of strategic partnerships with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago; the ICON Institute and the Chamber of Crafts and Trades, Germany; the American Welding Society (AWS) and other accredited institutions.

The benefits of such partnerships define MIC Institute of Technology as a training institution, offering programmes such as the Journeyman National Skills Development Programme (NSDP); Master Craftsman certifications in Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic and Mechatronics; Helping You Prepare for Employment (HYPE); Industrial Craft Programme (ICP); Multi-Sector Skills Training (MuST); Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR); Engineer-In-Training and other specialised and customised training programmes.

Wouldnt it be great as a player to win the league or qualify for the Caribbean Club Championship which is definitely one of our goals along with graduating as a qualified tradesman with a skill for life? Spence questioned.

The MIC-IT STAR general manager added that MIC-IT and St. Anns Rangers have seen the positive and profound impact that merging their resources can have on the young population in their confidence, their self-esteem, on society, on crime, and on their future.

On the part of MIC-IT, the highly focused technical trainee is given an opportunity to express him or herself in the beautiful game of football at the highest level in Trinidad and Tobagothe TT Pro League.

Now that these two very experienced, durable, ambitious entities have come together football wins tertiary education wins and more importantly, the trainee or player will come out the overall winner.

MIC-IT St. Anns Rangers is now offering this opportunity to all young persons in Trinidad and Tobago who have an inner desire to achieve and develop holisticallyon and off the field; in and out of the classroom, concluded Spence.

Alexander meanwhile said MIC-IT STAR hopes to tap in on income generating opportunities such as gate fees, transfer fees of players, sale of branding materials and sponsorship.

Anthony Streete, who led the Pro League outfit to an improved seventh-place finish last season, will continue as coach of MIC-IT STAR for the 2017 season.

Saint Lucia beats Rangers 2-1 in football friendly
By Terry Finisterre (St. Lucia News Online)

Saint Lucia got the Jamaal Shabazz era underway on Friday with a 2-1 friendly win over Trinidad and Tobago club team, Horquetta Rangers.

Shabazz, the Trinidad and Tobago national, has previously coached Guyana to their biggest leaps in the FIFA rankings, and has coached several Saint Lucians during his time in the managerial ranks of the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League.

He got his tenure underway by deploying a 4-4-2 formation, featuring four under-23 players: goalkeeper Vino Barclett, and outfield players Djal Augustin, Alvinus Myers, and Melvin Doxilly. Overseas-based professionals, captain Zaine Pierre, Kurt Frederick, Otev Lawrence, Lester Joseph, and Andrus Remy lined up with Jevick MacFarlane and Antonio Joseph.

Saint Lucia looked bright in the first half, but did not capitalise on the chances they created. Kurt Frederick converted from the penalty spot in the 15th minute to give the home team a 1-0 halftime lead.

A defensive lapse in the 50th minute gave Tyrone Charles the opportunity to equalise for the Trinidadians. But just five minutes later, up popped Andrus Remy to convert for the home team.

According to Shabazz, he was pleased to see some of the positives that came out of Fridays match, but he recognises that there is a lot of work yet to be done.

Saint Lucia won 2-1 again, at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, 28-year-old Frederick and Under-23 player Alvinus Pogba Myers scoring for the home team.

Rangers promises to release players for T&T team.
By Walter Alibey (T&T Guardian).

T&T Pro League campaigners La Horquetta Rangers is re-confirming its commitment to assisting the T&T team ahead of the World Cup qualifying play-offs, by making its players available, but only after the team competes in a high-stake tournament that starts next month.

The club's owner Richard Ferguson is challenging national coach Terry Fenwick and his men, to a $100, 000-winner-takes all match, and he said he is prepared to up the stakes by an additional $100, 000 if permission is given for spectators to be allowed to enter the playing venue.

That match, it is understood could take place early next week, but Ferguson, in a move to convey his commitment to the country, sought to clear the air on his reasons for not allowing his players to train with the national team, via a letter to the National Team Director Richard Piper yesterday.

In his letter, he said: "We take this opportunity to thank you for considering our players in regards to training with the national team coach, however, after discussions with the club's Board of Directors and coaching staff, it was decided that it was not prudent to release the requested players at his juncture. Please consider the following reasons: (1) We expect to be playing in a league in April with significant prize money and it is very important that we prepare for this league vigorously.

Therefore, we need to have full access to all of our players to compete effectively. (2) Our coaches have developed an extensive training, nutrition and fitness programme for our players for the upcoming competition, and as a result, the absence of key players for such a long time would affect the plans of the club adversely. In addition, our players have been training together for over two years and they are very fit."

Ferguson and Fenwick have been at loggerheads over Rangers reluctance to release its players outside of the FIFA window.

However, with no football taking place for the past year or so, Ferguson has been the subject of much criticism for his stance, while Fenwick's unit remains in dire need of reinforcement.

Rangers, in its letter also pointed out that his team possesses many talents that will be an asset to the country. "However, we stand ready to assist the national senior team with their preparations for the upcoming international competitions. We suggest that we play the national team a practice game where coach Fenwick can see the team in action, and he can then select the players he wishes to play for T&T."

"You should also note that we have expanded our squad over the last 10 months, and we currently have players that coach Fenwick has never seen before and they would be an excellent option for the national team coach to consider."

The T&T team is preparing for its Concacaf World Cup qualifying match against Guyana on March 25 in the Dominican Republic. So far, the team has played an international friendly against the USA and lost 7-0 and last Saturday recorded an 8-0 victory against Orange XI of Tobago.

Rangers players get green-light to join Eve's training.
By Walter Alibey (T&T Guardian).

Permission was granted for five players from T&T Pro League outfit La Horquetta Rangers to represent the T&T Senior National team under new coach Angus Eve, at the CONCACAF Gold starting from July 2.

Rangers owner Richard Ferguson immediately said yes to a request by national team manager Adrian Romain, for midfielders Aikim Andrews and Jamal Creighton: strikers - Keston George and Isaiah Lee: and defender Ross Russell Jr to be given time off without loss of status or earning. Ferguson has maintained throughout that he never had a problem releasing his players to represent the country and has shown it by his immediate response to Romain's letter. Sacked national coach Terry Fenwick encountered difficulty as he requested the players outside of the required FIFA window.

Romain's letter stated: "Our Men's Senior National Team has qualified to participate in the Preliminary Stage of the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup which will take place in the United States and starts on July 2nd with our first-round qualifier against Montserrat to be played at the DRV PNK Stadium in Ft Lauderdale, USA. Should we win that game, we advance to the Second Round of the qualification scheduled for July 6 at the same venue.

Once successful, we advance to the Group Stage of the Tournament which starts on July 10th and will run until the Gold Cup final on August 1st. I write to notify you that Aikim Andrews, Jamal Creighton, Keston George, Isaiah Lee and Ross Russell Jr have been selected in our provisional squad. The actual 23 man squad will be confirmed no later than Monday 28th June 2021 after which travel details will be finalised for those selected."

The players will add to a host of local players who have already been training with the team under Fenwick, but most of whom did not get a chance to play.

However, Eve, at a virtual press conference on Monday said as a stickler for local talent, he felt local players never got a fair chance.

The T&T Soca Warriors, recently booted out of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in only the first round, will be eager to make amends when they take on Montserrat in the opening match. Should they emerge from that match they will face either French Guiana or Cuba.

The team is expected to enter a residential camp from June 19 to 22.

La Horquetta Rangers fully vaccinated.
T&T Guardian Reports.

More than three weeks after being the host of a virtual meeting of the T&T Football Association members to pursue vaccines for its members, Keiron Edwards, the General Manager of La Horquetta Rangers, is claiming his club is fully vaccinated.

Edwards in a release on July 22 said: "I Kieron Edwards, Terminix La Horquetta Rangers General Manager, would like to confirm that all players, coaches and ground staff of the team has either been fully vaccinated or have received their first dose of vaccination. This totals over 40 individuals that have taken their jab. Terminix La Horquetta Rangers is the first professional club where all persons have taken heed to the Prime Ministers statement of vaccinate to operate"

It was only on July 6 that Edwards hosted a meeting at which he convinced the majority of the football membership to collectively encourage its members to avail themselves of the COVID-19 vaccines in order to restart football in the communities and in the country.

Following the meeting, Edwards said: "TTFA Member-Stakeholders consider the restart of football of all Leagues and Competitions in the country to be essential, with the full vaccination of footballers, coaches, technical staff, referees, and other related personnel, and would welcome working directly with the Ministry of Health to facilitate this exercise in the earliest possible timeframe.

The envisaged immunization would have all Members of our football fraternity visit the venues of the Ministry of Health to facilitate the exercise, similar to what has been done for the Chamber of Commerce, the TTMA, the Supermarket Association and other such entities."

The full vaccination of football members will also clear the way for the staging of the Ascension Invitational Football League which will cater for action among the Women's Football League (WoLF), T&T Pro League and Super League, the Regional Associations- Eastern Football Association, Northern FA, Southern FA, Central FA, Tobago FA and the Eastern Counties Football Union (ECFU), as well as Futsal and Beach Soccer.

La Horquetta Rangers leave for Caribbean tour.
By Nigel Simon (T&T Guardian).

Local professional club, Terminix La Horquetta Rangers, will continue preparations for the Normalisation Committee-led T&T Football Association (TTFA) T&T Premier League with a five-match tour to neighbouring Grenada, and St Vincent and the Grenadines from Sunday to March 20.

This means the Richard Ferguson-owned La Horquetta Rangers will not play their first two matches as scheduled in the Elite Football League having accepted the invitation by the Grenada Football Association, and St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation to play five practice matches against Caribbean nations, St Lucia, Grenada, and St Vincent and the Grenadines who are all preparing to resume their respective Concacaf Nations League campaign at the end of March.

Rangers, who ended in second place in the 2019 Ascension Tournament Football, behind the Defence Force before going all the way to the title last year will leave Sunday with a 24-man squad for the tour, the second such tour for Rangers, having made a tour of Grenada and St Lucia, in 2019.

Among the notable players selected by coach Dave Quamina are national senior team wingers Real Gill, and Ross Russell Jr, along with Tyrone Charles, Jevon Morris, Jamal Creighton, Ataulla Guerra, Kaihim Thomas, Tarik Lee, and Daniel Cyrus.

For the first stage of the tour in Grenada, the Quamina-coached Rangers who had their first couple of matches in the new T&T Elite Professional League rescheduled to accommodate the tour will kick off their campaign against St Lucia on March 7 before facing Grenada on March 10, and again on March 12.

The second and final phase of the tour will see Rangers coming up against St Vincent and the Grenadines in two encounters, firstly, on March 15, and then three days later on March 18, both in St Vincent.

Speaking at a training session earlier this week ahead of the team's departure said the tour is structured to help the players, both young and old as well as to provide them with a chance to gain experience ahead of the upcoming campaign.

"These kinds of tours can only help us have a firsthand look at how our players cope at this level of football as well as for us as a club to take in how things are done at an international level, and in general we intend to represent ourselves and the country to the best of our ability.

"We have a good core of young players, and this is a great opportunity for them as well to stake their claims for selection on the team and we expect them to snatch these opportunities with both hands, as we intend to build on our recent past successes.

"In general, our preparations for the season have been good and we are anxious for the return to professional football in T&T to secure silverware high on our agenda," said Quamina.

Ferguson also welcomes the chance to expose his team to some international level of competition ahead of the start of the new local season saying: "It's always a pleasure and challenge to play teams that are much better than us because it will also help us a team to improve and as individuals."

Tour schedule:

Grenada:

March 7: La Horquetta Rangers vs St Lucia

March 10: Grenada vs La Horquetta Rangers

March 12: Grenada vs. La Horquetta Rangers

Guerra fires La Horquetta Rangers past St Lucia.
By Sherdon Pierre (T&T Newsday).

FORMER national attacking midfielder Ataullah Guerra scored twice in the first half to seal a comfortable 2-0 victory for Terminix La Horquetta Rangers in a friendly football match against St Lucia on Tuesday at the Fond Playing Field, St Patrick, Grenada.

Rangers dominated the match against their hosts who are coached by TT's leading all-time goal scorer, Stern John.

In the 12th minute, Guerra collected a pass and turned on his defender before calmly slotting home for the early lead.

Rangers attacked purposefully down the left flank with Real Gill, 20, terrorising the St Lucian defenders, setting up several goalscoring chances for Guerra and striker Tyrone Charles. Guerra had an excellent opportunity in the final minute of the first half, but his shot was blocked.

Guerra wouldnt be denied in stoppage time of the first half. Gill's corner fell kindly for Guerra who spanked home a ferocious volley into the top corner, giving goalkeeper Vino Barclett no chance.

John's halftime talk seemed to motivate his troops as they lifted their performance in the second half, especially in the attacking third. Though stretched at times, Rangers sat comfortably absorbing the pressure from their opponents. The pairing of Jevon Morris and Leslie Russell was solid in defence.

The St Lucians had their best opportunity to score in the 66th minute through Sebastien Ribot's direct free-kick on the edge of the 18-yard box, but it was expertly saved by goalie Jabari St Hillaire. The lanky custodian had other saves to make but none to greatly threaten his team's 2-0 advantage.

Rangers head coach Dave Quamina would be pleased with his team's execution against international counterparts.

Rangers' preseason Caribbean tour continues Friday when they face Grenada, before replaying them two days later. They will then do battle against S. Vincent and the Grenadines next Wednesday and Saturday.

Teams:

Terminix La Horquetta Rangers: Jabari St. Hillaire, Jesus Perez, Jevon Morris, Leslie Russell, Caleb Sturge, Real Gill, Jamal Creighton, Daniel David, Isaiah Lee, Ataulla Guerra, Tyrone Charles.

St Lucia: Vino Barclett, Melvin Doxilly, Shanoi Evans, Edd Fred, Lester Joseph, Andrus Remy, Alvinus Myers, Leaus Henville, Aaron Richard, Donavan Perpie, Saviola Elva.

Rangers let 2-goal lead slip in Grenada defeat.
T&T Guardian Reports.

T&Ts Terminix La Horquetta Rangers let a 2-0 half-time lead slip and fell to a 2-3 loss to host Grenada in the second match of their five-match tour to neighbouring Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) at Fond Playing field at Sauteurs, St Patrick, Grenada on Friday.

Coming off a 2-0 win over the Stern John-coached St Lucia national team at the same venue on Tuesday night behind first-half items from former USA-based national midfielder Ataulla Guerra the Dave Quamina-coached Rangers were confident of another positive result as they continued their preparations for the Normalisation Committee-led T&T Football Association (TTFA) T&T Premier League, which kicked off on Friday.

Twelve (12) minutes into the encounter, out-of-favour T&T international Tyrone Charles fired Rangers into a 1-0 when he reacted quickly to a headed-down pass from captain Jamal Creighton and turned on his stronger right foot to hammer home his shot off the glove of goalkeeper Trishawn Thomas on his near post.

Seven minutes later, Charles turned provider for his teams second goal, when he raced to the right byline and squared the ball back on top of the 18-yard box where teammate, Real Gill, collected calmly, before curling his right-footed effort around defender Jamil Rocastle and into the far corner past dive of goalkeeper Thomas for a comfortable 2-0 cushion.

However, Rangers suffered a meltdown in the second half, Grenada stepped up their physical play and intensity and scored three goals without reply to snatch the unlikely win.

First, Romar Frank blasted in his teams first item a minute after the restart when he collected a failed-headed clearance from Rangers defender Jesus Perez inside the 18-yard box to fire past Jabari St Hillaire from close range.

Kriston Julien then drew the hosts level in the 73rd minute when his left-footed shot sneaked under the dive of St Hillaire after a shot from substitute Joshua Isacc deflected off of Rangers defender Leslie Rusell, and into his path.

Two minutes from full-time Isaac completed the turn-around for Rangers when he collected a pass from a teammate just outside the penalty area, and ran at defender Daneil Cyrus, before unleashing a left-footed effort that whisked past the dive of St Hillaire and into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal to steal the win, the second in three matches after sharing a two-match series with St Lucia, winning the second encounter 2-0 on Sunday, after losing the opener 2-1.

Sunday (March 11), Rangers will have a chance to avenge their loss when they meet Grenada again at Victoria Park, Grenville from 4 pm.

The second and final phase of the tour will see Rangers coming up against St Vincent and the Grenadines in two encounters, firstly on Wednesday (March 15) and then three days later on Saturday (March 18), both in St Vincent.

The trio of Grenada, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines are using the encounters as part of their remaining CONCACAF Nations League (CNL) matches, as well, at the end of the month.

Grenada currently sits at the bottom of its League A Group D three-team round-robin pool with one point from three matches, four behind leaders El Salvador who have also played three matches while the USA is in the second spot with two matches to play.

In their final CNL match, Grenada will host the USA on March 24, needing a win to have any chance of avoiding demotion to League B.

Meanwhile, the St Lucians, head their three-team League C Group C table with a maximum of six points after wins against Dominica, 1-0 away, and 2-0 at home over Anguilla, and will complete their campaign against Anguilla away on March 24, followed by a clash with Dominica at home in Castries on March 27. The pair of Anguilla and Dominica have two points after two matches.

Like Grenada and St Lucia, SVG resume CONCACAF Nations League at the end of March as well and currently sits at the bottom of their four-team League B Group D round-robin series with one point from four matches after earning a 2-2 draw at home with group leader Nicaragua (ten points).

In their other matches, SVG suffered defeats at home and away to second-placed T&T (nine points), 2-0 and 4-1, as well as a 1-0 loss on the road to the Bahamas and in their remaining matches, they travel to Nicaragua on March 24 before returning home to host the Bahamas, three days later.

Grenada come from behind to beat La Horquetta Rangers 3-2.
By Sherdon Pierre (T&T Newsday).

HOSTS Grenada recovered from a two-nil deficit to earn a 3-2 comeback victory against Terminix La Horquetta Rangers in the first of two meetings of the Pre-Season Tour 2023 on Friday at the Fond Playing Field, St Patrick, Grenada.

Rangers were full of confidence coming off a two-nil victory against St Lucia on Tuesday and it showed in their brisk passing and movements early in the match. The TT team scored two first-half goals yet again. This time was striker Tyrone Charles in the 13th minute who volleyed home from close range after captain Jamal Creighton challenged for a header from a corner that fell kindly for Charles. Grenada`s Goalkeeper Trishawn Thomas got a strong hand to the shot, but it was too powerful.

Six minutes later, Charles turned provider as he skilfully laid a pass to an unmarked Real Gill who controlled around the penalty spot to guide it home near post beating a helpless Thomas in goal.

It was a tale of two halves as Grenada fuelled by the energy of their home crowd capitalised on streaky defending from the visitors. Their resurgence began after pulling back a goal sixty seconds into the second half following a poor clearance From Rangers defender Jesus Perez that dropped into the path of Romar Frank who chested and volleyed past goalie Jabari St Hillaire.

The Spice Island tied the game in the 74th when forward Joshua Issac shot was blocked by defender Leslie Russell but Kriston Julien latched on to rebound to slip it under St Hillaire who could have done better with his effort.

Issac was a handful for the Rangers defence all night and he was rewarded for his efforts scoring in the 88th minute to seal the comeback victory 3-2. Both teams will meet again on Sunday before Rangers conclude the tour against St. Vincent and the Grenadines next Wednesday and Saturday.

Easy, Pachuca and Leon (Mexico) would be an example.

asylum is correct. Got this from Wiki.

Interestingly, the Cornish are credited for bringing soccer (futbol) to Mexico. In 2012, billionaire Carlos Slim purchased a 30% stake in Grupo Pachuca, which owns Pachuca and Leon. Since getting promoted to the Primera Division in 1998, Pachuca has been one of the most successful clubs in Mexico.

La Horquetta Rangers edge St Vincent and the Grenadines
T&T Express

ISAIAH LEE netted the only goal as T&T professional club Terminix La Horquetta Rangers opened the St Vincent and the Grenadines leg of their Caribbean tour with a closely-fought 1-0 win over the Vincey Heat at Victoria Park in Kingstown, Wednesday night.

Rangers are on a pre-season tour, prior to competing in the TT Premier Football League. They have already played three matches in Grenada, winning 2-0 over St Lucia, losing 3-2 to the Grenada mens national team and also drawing a return match against the Spice Boys 1-1 . Rangers will end the Caribbean series with a second match against SVG tomorrow from 3 p.m.

Wednesday night, Rangers found SVG their equal during a goalless first half, but were ahead just seven minutes into the second period through Lee. The young striker, a member of Trinidad and Tobagos 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup squad, beat Josh Stowe, with a powerful, diagonal shot, the ball going low and past the dive of the Grenada goalkeeper.

Also going close were Rangers captain Tyrone Charles, who only just failed to connect with Ataullah Guerras dangerous pass at the far post, while Guerra screwed a shot wide when free and with plenty of time from just on top of the penalty area.

The match was a fast-paced affair in which Rangers head coach Dave Quamina gave a couple of other players a first start, among them midfielder Josiah Edwards and the defensive pair of Akim Andrew and Emmanuel Thomas.

Striker Cleon Westfield came close to getting a goal for the Vincey Heat early in the second half, his shot from the left flank bringing a good save out of goalkeeper Jabari Brice, who has started the last two matches for Rangers after Jabari St Hillare began the first two against St Lucia and Grenada. However, Kevin Francis went even closer and almost brought SVG level in added-on time, his shot from 35-metres beating keeper Brice but rebounding off an upright.

I appreciate the corroboration, Deeks. Now I'll add that it's not unique to Grupo Pachuca. For instance, both Santos Laguna and Atlas are owned by another entity. Eyebrow-raising but that's the reality.

By the way, Victoria Swift was at Leon with Marta Cox. Cox was moved to Pachuca to reinforce that squad, while Swift didn't continue with Leon.

Rangers boss not sending players to train with T&T.
By Ian Prescott (T&T Express).

Defiant Ferguson

A DEFIANT Richard Ferguson, managing director of local professional football club Terminix La Horquetta Rangers, insists that while he will make his players available for national selection on FIFA match days, he will not release them otherwise to train with the national team.

Ferguson was responding to a Trinidad Express enquiry, after national coach Angus Eve hinted that Rangers was among the local clubs not looking at the bigger picture when it came to developing the national squad.

Speaking via Zoom, Eve hinted that he had not selected players from local clubs Rangers and Point Fortin Civic for upcoming CONCACAF Nations League matches, because they had not been part of recent national team preparations.

Eve is the third T&T coach who has expressed difficulty getting Rangers footballers released for national team preparations, following similar complaints by former head coaches Dennis Lawrence and Terry Fenwick.

Ferguson was appointed managing director of Rangers after Terminix Trinidad Limited purchased St Anns Rangers FC in June, 2018, moved the club to the La Horquetta community and changed its name to Terminix La Horquetta Rangers FC.

Ferguson a Trinidad and Tobago Football Association presidential aspirant, insisted that he is within his rights to withhold his players outside of official FIFA match-day windows.

When there is a FIFA window we have to release the players. But if is hes asking for them to go and train.... nah. That isnt happening, stated Ferguson.

We does train harder than them, he declared.

I am not sending no players to train, Ferguson insisted. We training three times a week, eight hours a day. To send them to train other than that, they will get injured. I does pay my players. He (Eve) does not pay them.

Ferguson supported his argument that Rangers had not boycotted the national team by pointing out that Real Gill had scored a goal for T&T against St Martin on January 29, and defender Russ Russell Jr also came on as a substitute.

Ferguson was reminded that while dominating the local professional league, teams such as Defence Force and W Connection had in the past always released their top players to train with the national team.

W Connection at one point played a national final with youth players such as then 15-year-old Mark Ramdeen included.

That is W Connection. We are Rangers, a different club, Ferguson insisted.

We does ask him (Eve) to play us a game and he never does. He will play Army three times a week. He will play Police. He will play Club Sando. But he will never play Rangers.

Rangers recently played five international games in ten days on a successful Caribbean tour, which ended with Saturdays 1-1 draw with the senior national team of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Ballpest doubles in Central FC's comback win vs Jabloteh.
By Sherdon Pierre (T&T Newsday).

CENTRAL FC player Keron "Ballpest" Cummings scored two goals to record a 3-2 comeback victory over a determined San Juan Jabloteh on Saturday at the Phase Two La Horquetta Recreation Grounds, La Horquetta.

Keron "Ballpest" Cummings gave Central the early scoring from the penalty spot in the third minute. Cummings calmly placed the ball to the right of the diving goalkeeper Jesse Peters.

Ten minutes later, Dantaye Gilbert tapped in close range in the 13th minute to score Jabloteh's first goal of the campaign and tie the match 1-1.

Jabloteh's Trevis Byron gave his team the 2-1 lead with a scorching long-range shot from distance in the 36th minute catching goalie Hakeem Lucas off guard. His terrific goal is in the lead for goal of the tournament.

Central flipped the script in the second half and applied pressure to the young Jabloteh team. Maurice Dick levelled the score in the 51st and former national midfielder and skipper Cummings completed his double in the 81st to seal the victory for his team.

Central FC move on to ten points at the top of the table.

In another match, W Connection and Morvant Caledonia United played to a goalless draw at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium on Saturday.

According to him, Rangers "does train harder" than the national team. They are currently in 7th spot out of 12 teams the TT PFL.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of a better training system.

Maybe he is trying to make a point about the haphazard approach of the national governing body.

It would be good if this fella was vindicated by having an outstanding season. But other local players have been doing well under national team training.

The proof will be in the pudding.

I hope is not that petty. I agreed with him to a point. He looked after his players during the covid. In addition, many players have been injured on national duty. And have had real issues with health bills. He don't want that for his players. But from now on I do hope he release his players. I was told that there are other players from other clubs who could have mad the team. But were not selected.

Rangers highest local club in Concacaf rankings, TT Pro League ranked 13th.
By Nigel Simon (T&T Guardian).

La Horquetta Rangers is the highest-ranked T&T Premier Football League on a list of 184 clubs issued by CONCACAF following the launch of an innovative new ranking system for clubs and leagues in the region on Monday.

According to the CONCACAF, the new club ranking is based on the performances of individual clubs in official international and domestic competitions, while the league ranking only considers international matches.

As a starting point for the new club ranking, the regions mens clubs have been ranked based on their results since 2017 in the following official international and domestic club competitions: Concacaf Champions League, Concacaf Regional Cups (Leagues Cup, Central American Cup, and Caribbean Cup), Domestic first division professional league, Member Association Cups (which qualify for Concacaf competitions), and FIFA Club World Cup

According to CONCACAF performances in these competitions this season (2023), and going forward in the coming years, will continue to be used to determine the new club ranking.

The CONCACAF release added: The new rankings will be an important part of the Confederations revamped club ecosystem and will be key a factor in determining draw seedings for official Concacaf club competitions beginning with the new 2023 Central American and Caribbean Cups and onwards, and next years eagerly anticipated expanded CONCACAF Champions League.

Formally known as Superstar Rangers Football Club and St. Anns Rangers Football Club, the club now owned by businessman Richard Ferguson and fourth on the current T&TPFL table has a ranking of 104th with 1,027 points to be the highest of the 12 T&T professional clubs, and fourth best among Caribbean Football Union representatives behind Haitis Violette ( (71st/1,076 points), Dominican Republics Cibao FC (84th/1,058), and Haitis Arcahaie FC (103rd/1,032 points).

Rangers, who won their own Ascension Football Tournament last year, one year after Defence Force captured the title has been in existence for over forty-eight (48) years and operating under Superstar Rangers FC for over thirty-five (35) years. Nine years ago, we changed the clubs name to St. Anns Rangers Football Club to reflect the location of the club was that of the community of St. Anns.

The club was then purchased by Terminix Trinidad Limited in 2018 and from January 2019 the club was moved to the community of La Horquetta hence the clubs name was changed again to reflect this move, to Terminix La Horquetta Rangers FC.

New rankings system launched
T&T Express Reports.

CONCACAF launched yesterday an innovative, new ranking system for clubs and leagues in the confederation that will help determine draw seedings for its Champions League and other new tournaments.

The new rankings will be an important part of revamped club ecosystem in CONCACAF and will come into effect from the start of the new Central American and Caribbean Cup tournaments and onwards, and the expanded Champions League next year.

According to a CONCACAF news release: The new dynamic rankings will be regularly updated following international club competitions, domestic league, and cup matches. They will be publicly available on [the CONCACAF website.

In addition to determining draw seedings for CONCACAF club competitions, the ranking system will also provide fans with an engaging way to track the progress of their favourite club and league week after week, as they compete with the very best in the confederation.

The news release indicated that the mens clubs in the confederation have been ranked based on their results in a slew of official international and domestic club competitions over the past six years as a starting point for the new rankings.

The competitions include the Champions League, as well as the Leagues Cup, Central American Cup, and Caribbean Cup, domestic top division professional leagues, member association cup tournaments, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

The CONCACAF news release added: Performances in these competitions from this season and going forward will continue to be used to determine the new club ranking.

The competitions are weighted in terms of the ranking points available in every match, with international matches awarding more ranking points than domestic top division league and cup matches.

The news release stated: The calculating formula has been developed in a way that allows clubs to know ahead of each match how many ranking points they can gain or lose depending on the result (win, draw, or loss). Clubs gain more ranking points for defeating a higher-ranked opponent and lose more ranking points should they be defeated by a lower-ranked opponent. Home-field advantage is also a factor.

In addition to an individual club ranking, CONCACAF is launching a league ranking index to determine the strength of domestic professional leagues based on the performances of their clubs in international competitions.

For the League ranking, only international matches will be considered and matches from the CONCACAF Champions League will award twice the points in comparison to Leagues Cup, Central American Cup, and Caribbean Cup.

Rangers turn to youth, look for 'balance' in TTPFL
By Roneil Walcott (T&T Newsday)

AFTER a fourth-placed finish in the inaugural T&T Premier Football League (TTPFL) season, Terminix La Horquetta Rangers head coach Dave Quamina has promised to unleash a more youthful looking team in the leagues second season as his team tries to strike the right balance. The new TTPFL season kicked off on Friday night with a double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, with reigning tier one champions Defence Force emerging as the lone winners on the night after a resounding 5-0 victory over newcomers 1976 FC Phoenix.

Rangers TTFPL campaign kicked off with a matchup against Heritage Petroleum Point Fortin Civic at the Mahaica Sporting Complex in Point Fortin yesterday.

Last season, with players such as Tyrone Charles, 34, Ataullah Guerra, 36, Daneil Cyrus, 32, Kadeem Corbin, 27, Real Gill, 20, and Kaihim Thomas, 20, at their disposal for most of the season, Rangers finished five points back of third-placed Tiger Tanks Club Sando and missed out on qualification for Concacaf Caribbean club football as a result.

Both Corbin and Gill transferred to Sando during the league campaign last season, with the former now at last seasons runner-up AC PoS. Thomas tasted TTPFL success as he made a timely transfer to Defence Force last season, and he was joined at the Army by former Rangers goalkeeper Jabari St Hillaire who was called up by Soca Warriors coach Angus Eve for the 2023/24 Concacaf Nations League A campaign.

Quamina said Rangers have lost good, young talent, but they have also taken measures to replace those players within the squad. Rangers have drafted in former Central FC striker Kesean St Rose, ex-Jabloteh defender Jelani Peters and former national under-17 winger Tyrese Boy Boy Bailey.

Last years Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) MVP Tarik Lee, who featured sparingly for Rangers last season, is still within the ranks, alongside the aforementioned veteran trio of Charles, Cyrus and Guerra, who have over 120 T&T international appearances combined.

I think all teams are going into the season with their (expectations) high. Football is played on the day. You cannot predict a season until it starts, Quamina told Newsday in an interview done before the start of the season.

Last season was competitive so we are going to try and see how close we could be to the top. We have a lot of young players this time around so we will be trying to do better than we did last season.

Rangers arguably went into the inaugural TTPFL season as one of the favourites, particularly after a dominant showing in the 2022 Ascension Invitational tournament. They started the season brightly and looked to be contenders, but ran out of steam and faded badly. Club owner Richard Ferguson even publicly admonished his players following a 1-0 win against Jabloteh at their Phase 2 La Horquetta home ground in May.

When asked if Rangers felt any pressure going into the new season, Quamina said, I think all the teams are under pressure. One of the teams you may have to watch this year is the Point Fortin (Civic) team. They have assembled a good squad. They have assembled a good bunch of players so that is a team you have to watch.

You still have to watch the Defence Force and Police. It will be a competitive (season) this time around. It will not be a walkover. I do not think there are any so-called big teams. He added, Last season was not one of our better seasons pertaining to conceding goals. I think we were up there with the top teams in the goal scoring department but (defensively we were not at our best).

We are trying to have a balanced seasoning pertaining to goal-scoring and defending. Football is played both ways so we are trying to work on that.

Rangers Phase 2 La Horquetta home base has almost become the local benchmark for the right mix of football and entertainment, with hundreds of spectators flocking to the venue to enjoy the on-field football drama and the off-field performances and parties.

We will try to please the fans by coming out and trying to perform and make the La Horquetta community proud from the first game to the last game. We will give our best. All the teams have an opportunity and a chance to play for something because teams (want Concacaf Caribbean Cup) glory.

On Wednesday, the TTPFL announced an increase in the prize money for both the tier one and tier two competitions, with a total of $800,000 in prizes to be distributed across the two divisions. The championship-winning team in tier one will receive $250,000 doubling the amount given to last seasons winners. Quamina anticipates a fight to the finish.

I think about four or five teams have a very good chance of coming into the mix for the Concacaf club tournaments so we will see how it goes. All the teams have to work on the day. It will not be a walkover.

TTPFL knockout finalists last season, it remains to be seen which version of the Rangers team will show up for this TTPFL campaign.
