Former San Juan Jabloteh midfielder Kevaughn Connell made an auspicious debut for AS Cannes when he opened the scoring in the 32nd minute against SO Romarantin on Friday, September 1, 2006. AS Cannes eventually emerged 2-0 winners.

Well done Kevaughn! Vive la Trinite!

dis is good news, always good for the team to have a good set of options for qualifying, we need more and more strikers doing well abroad and especially at home in order to have a fruitful campaign in 2010...

After the 2 defeat false start, the Cannes Dragon found its flames and its SO Romorantin who were burnt Friday Evening at the Bocca 02.09.06 by Chris
The ACE Cannes trainer had placed the bar high: 7 points in 3 matches. First promise kept, with the victory over SO Romorantin 2-0, thanks to the two goals of Connell in the 32nd on Touré's pass and Touré in the 61st on Poté's pass. A match which was broken up by some very persnickety refereeing, when there was no dangerous play or gesture of anger, the referee whistled the least bit of contact in the air, leaving no place for any actual gameplay.
It is not surprising that the match was rather tedious, with few occasions, and many wasted balls , but a Romorantin team playing a high defence interupted the Cannes counterattacks. On Cannes' side, there were a few attempts but not particularly dangerousones, on the Romorantin sides, two beautiful opportunities well stopped by Benhamou, the Cannes keeper. The only important event of the first half was Connell's goal after a technical exploit from Touré. With his back to goal and two two romorantin players on his back, he flicked the ball backwards and passed two defenders and then sent a perfect cross in for Connell who struck the ball diagonally into the net. Cannes 1 - 0 Romorantin.
In the second half, the romorantines, continued to pressure but Cannes was the one getting serious opportunities from the start. Poté, lost his one on one with Ardeois, then a misdirected header from a defender lobbed the keeper but came off the left post. Cannes wasn't yet home free and indeed, Romorantin scored but the goal was refused for an offside. The stadium breathes a sigh of relief. On a ball recovered by Carteron, he hit it deep to Poté, then in the box to Touré, who faked a shot, took out the defender and then scored. Cannes 2 - 0 Romorantin.
The match is decided. Romorantin made several attempts but the Cannes goalkeeper was royal in between the sticks and stopped all of their shots.
A pretty disappointing match. All there is to retain is the 2-0 victory for Cannes, and the first goal in his first start for the Trinidadian Connell, and an excellent match from Venn Touré.
Some photographs of the match are available on the official site www.ascannes.fr and the video-summary will be put on line early evening.

I corrected it. He played in the midfield for Jabloteh, but it looks as though Cannes is using him as a striker.

For the record, Cannes is in the French third division. Last year they just missed out on the last (3rd) promotion spot by one point as the team that got it obtained a draw on the last day.
The year before that they were less successful finishing 13th out of 20 teams.
Right now they are currently 7th with 7 points from 5 games, 6 points behind leaders Boulogne sur Mer.
Cannes now replace Tours (my adoptive town) as my 3rd division team to support because Tours was promoted to the second division last year ;D
