Boynes: $18m for coaches soon.
By: Juhel Browne (T&T Express).
Sport Minister Roger Boynes says the Cabinet had approved an allocation of $18 million for the payment of coaches of the national football squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Recently, the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (T&TFF) announced that they could not access the funds, since they had to supply the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs with certain relevant information.
"What the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs was mandated to do from the Cabinet," Boynes explained, at the post-Cabinet news conference at Whitehall, Port of Spain, yesterday, "was to ensure that we have a disbursement schedule outlining exactly what payment is to go for what person. We requested the contracts. We requested all the information in order for us to determine that disbursement schedule, and we have only recently got same".
As for the salary of the national-under 17 coach, Anton Corneal, Boynes said: "...his salary is paid by the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago, and he has been paid."

This is where everything is straddling a fine. Jack/TTFF hired Wim, but the Gov't have to pay his wages. How long is this arragement going to last. Gov't/taxpayers money, but gov't/taxpayers can't don't a say in how things running in TTFF. So evrytime TTFF say they belly-up, Govt must run the bread.

This is high class stupidity. The government should not be paying no coach. The should provide an allocation of funds to the TTFF who should hire the coaches on a known, transparent budget. If Jack Warner wants to help football, he should also give his contribution to the TTFF who should have a yearly audited reports. That is the only way to avoid graft, corruption and the kind of foolishness that Jack Warner continues to foist on the football and people of Trinidad and Tobago.
