Title: What a waste
Post by: Remie on July 02, 2007, 08:24:28 AM
With Lara now retired, over the last 10 West Indian innings Chanderpaul has been either not out or has had to give his wicket away because he was batting with the tail. Chanderpaul is in the form of his life and it is being wasted with him batting at 5 because he has no partners to bat with. He should move up the order.

On the one hand, because he's been most productive at 5 or 6 I'm inclined to leave him there. On the other hand the top order batsmen are really just not getting it done and as Remie's pointed out the man really seems to be in the form of his life. He's coming in at around the same time as if he'd open or bat at #3 anyway.

It is so disappointing that not ONE of the other batsmen are really digging in to stay with him. It seems like the team concept still isn't with them. It's not about them making runs while he's there, it's about giving him as much strike as possible while ensuring they stick around. If they rotate the strike enough they'll get a few runs themselves.

Without Lara and Sarwan:

Chanderpaul lower down the order = 50 not out

Chanderpaul higher up the order = 100 not out

Although this is over simplified and Chanders will not make runs every time he walks to the wicket, we should still give the team the best chance of winning and surely with the current players available, that means Chanders up the order to face the majority of the deliveries available.
