I have a feeling Spann and Jan will get a contract there, and after reading that article it sounds like Spann  having a good trial, I really hope they get through now that Bryan Robson is at the helm, if anyone can bring that club to the top flight it will be him.

Many Blades fans made up the crowd of 1,679 and they saw trialist Silvio Spann for the first time. The Trinidad international midfielder played a full 90 minutes, whilst his compatriot Jan-Michael Williams, a goalkeeper, is expected to feature in the friendly at Alfreton on Tuesday.

A great long-range effort from Spann saw Matthewson parry and although Webber tucked the ball home, the linesman's flag had already been raised.

I hope that they both sign. From the report it seems that Spann looked impressive.

Worksop Town 0-2 Blades - match report

United opened the pre-season campaign with a win for new boss Bryan Robson. A Danny Webber penalty and Chris Lucketti's tap-in secured the success at Worksop Town.
The first half opened in summer sunshine, whilst the second started with a heavy downpour but the Blades dominated and goalkeepers Paddy Kenny and Ian Bennett didn't have a save to make all evening.
United had to wait until the 15th minute before creating the first chance of the game but Webber's 20-yard shot was straight at Worksop goalkeeper Matthewson, who then stopped another effort, this time from Jon Stead.
The opening goal arrived on 22 minutes courtesy of a disputed penalty. When Ahmed Fathi's shot struck the arm of former Blade Kev Davies, referee Wigglesworth appeared to wave play on but took the advice of one of his assistants and pointed to the spot. WEBBER netted the penalty, although Matthewson got a hand to the effort.
Stead went close to extending the lead either side of half-time, shooting at the Worksop goalkeeper before the break and slicing wide in the second. Stead also shot across the goal after Webber's cross had beaten Matthewson on 57 minutes.
United's second goal arrived on 63 minutes when the central defensive partnership combined from a corner. From Chris Armstrong's delivery, Chris Morgan's shot was partially blocked and LUCKETTI touched in from close range at the back post.
In the later stages United continued to attack but Worksop defended well to keep the score down. A great long-range effort from Spann saw Matthewson parry and although Webber tucked the ball home, the linesman's flag had already been raised.
Matthewson raced off his line to block from Alan Quinn, Webber cut in from the left and shot just over and then trialist Spann curled another effort wide before the final whistle.

Blades: Kenny (Bennett 45), Geary, Morgan, Lucketti, Armstrong, Fathi, Ashmore, A. Quinn, Spann, Stead, Webber.

Subs: Horwood, Robertson, Donnelly, Naughton, Kerry.

Ah reading a Sheffield United forum, and they ain't seem too impressed by Silvio. They play him on the left wing and he seem out of sorts. The people that went the match say he obviously had talent, but tactically was in a mess (the word 'rubbish' was used). So me eh know. Fans tend to judge things too harshly. Hope de coaching staff see tings different.

That actually good man, cause tactics is something you could work at and is not too harshly judged when on trial. The player have to get used to what the management want and he not familiar with the other players. Once you show a willingness to learn, work hard and u doh seem too stupid(which we know spann is not) they will be more concerned with the skilll level which they not prepared to now teach at the club...so I find that sounds good for Spann. Not to mention, having a dead ball specialist is always a bonus.

Just got back. - Huddersfield_Blade - 16/07/2007 22:07

Webber got the first from a penalty (handball), Lucketti got a second by placing a shot home.

Absolutely chucked it down and I'm currently wringing my shirt out.

Team was:

Kenny
Geary
Stretch
Lucketti
Morgs
Fathi (right wing)
Silvio Spann (left wing)
Quinn (Alan)
Ashmore (I think)
Stead
Webber
Subs made up of young uns, didn't see any get on. But Benno played the second half.

We were generally shocking, but it's the first game and I'm not worried.

We were much better second half and could have had a couple more but for a very good display from their keeper.

Spann (trialist from Trinidad I believe) was VERY poor in the first half, really struggled, but much much better in the second. Still, I don't see him getting signed just yet.

My man of the match was Fathi. Thought he was excellent. Looked strangely nervous at first, but really grew into the game and constantly charged forward with the ball whenever possible.

Everyone else looked rusty, although the defence was solid and Morgs was his usual self.

(side note, 10 German Bombers at a pre season friendly.... really?)

I like what i hearing these days a lot of young warriors signing foreign contracts this augers well for the future as we currently have an aging national squad. If these two sign it will be icing on the cake!!

Word from a reliable source said that they were doing well and more or less waiting to finalize the contract.

Alfreton Town 0-2 Blades - match report.

A crowd of 797 watched ambitious Conference North outfit Alfreton slip to a home defeat courtesy of goals either side of half-time from Ian Ross and substitute Jordan Robertson.
Trialists Jean-Joel Perrier Doumbe and Jan-Michael Williams each got 90 minutes to impress Bryan Robson and new signing Gary Naysmith also played a full game, his first for the Blades, against the experienced and physically imposing non-league outfit.
Indeed, Alfreton held the upper hand for much of the first half although United had the more impressive efforts with Cameroon international Doumbe and Luton Shelton both going within a whisker of scoring with identical left-foot shots.
The home team enjoyed the greater possession and Rickard produced their best effort, firing just over the top but Shelton's blistering pace and drive put United on the front foot and on the stroke of half-time the Blades took the lead. ROSS picked the ball up in a central position 25 yards from goal, advanced and beat the goalkeeper with a shot into the bottom corner.
With Stephen Quinn having sustained a twisted ankle late in the first half, striker Robertson was introduced after the interval and extended the lead in the 57th minute. Playing in a three-man attack, ROBERTSON ran in anticipating a mistake which duly arrived and the youngster was alert enough the stab the ball home.
Trinidadian international goalkeeper Williams was brought into action in the 75th minute, diverting Copnell's header for a corner but by now United were in full control.
The Alfreton goal led a charmed life and Shelton was desperately unlucky not to open his account, his devastating 50-yard run ended with a shot into the side-netting and the home goalkeeper produced a great tip over the top when a goal from the Jamaican looked inevitable.
Meanwhile, Bryan Robson is to decide on the futures of three potential new signings for Sheffield United. Former Celtic full-back Jean-Joel Perrier Doumbe and Trinidad & Tobago internationals Jan-Michael Williams (goalkeeper) and Silvio Spann (midfielder) have featured in one or other of this week's pre-season fixtures.
Robson told the club's official website: "I'll be speaking to my staff and other club officials before making a decision on them."

Blades: - Williams, Doumbe, Bromby, Kilgallon, Naysmith, Ross (Kerry 62), Tonge (Naughton 80), S. Quinn (Robertson 45), Leigertwood, Horsfield, Shelton.

Subs: Annerson, Donnelly, Horwood.

Well they are not offering Doumbe a contract. I hope that is a good sign as no mention was made of Spann and Williams getting de axe.

Trinidadian's Silvio Spann and Jan Williams, who joined the Cameroon international at Shirecliffe,
are still waiting to learn their fate.
"I would like to thank him for spending time with us but, on reflection, I don't think he's exactly the type of player we are looking for."
