Action in the Pro League has been put on hold until June 24 due to a series of international matches involving the national team during the period June 1-22.

Five rescheduled games in Round One Match Day Six were due to take place today but, according to a media release from the league’s executive yesterday, those games will now take place on August 5. The national footballers, under coach Francisco Maturana, are currently preparing for Sunday’s international friendly against England at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

“The league apologises for any inconvenience caused by the inadvertent rescheduling of these matches.”

After the England friendly, the national team will host Jamaica at the Mucurapo venue on June 7. And the TT lads will kick off their 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign with home-and-away qualifiers against Bermuda on June 15 and 22.

Meanwhile, W Connection, one of the most prominent local football clubs, have ended their eight-year sponsorship arran-gement with radio station Vibe CT 105FM of the Trinidad Broad-casting Company.

Now the club’s official name is the W Connection Football Club. A foundation member of the local Pro League, Conne-ction have secured, at least once, all of the major trophies available, including the First Citizens Cup, Courts Pro Bowl and Lucozade Big Six prizes last year.

In 2007, Connection were also voted “Team of the Year” by the Pro League. According to a media release, “in 2009, the club will be entering its 10th year as a professional football club, for which the public can look forward to some exciting events planned.”
