-
Didn't see the race but a good time for George. He said he'd be happy just lowering his national mark of 49.50 -- the fact he did so well is really encouraging for the 50m upcoming. Hopefully he makes the semifinal in the 100m.
-
Bernard of France just swam a 47.85 in the final heat
So the top 16 times progress to the semis....
shit...I don't think he got in....can't confirm that yet, but the 15th placed qualifier had a 48.5-something...
-
George's time was 20th fastest........
-
George's time was 20th fastest........
Thanks :beermug: Onwards and upwards..
-
Hard luck him not making the semis but I think (judging from his time and splits) that it was a very encouraging performance for George with the 50 coming up.

20th fastest at the olympics ent too shabby
Not shabby at all....... but those times will be bettered in the semis and again in the finals. Strange that all the qualifiers came from heats 7, 8 and 9.

That is the way prelims are seeded in swimming. The last three heats are circle seeded so that the 24 fastest swimmers come from those heats.
It was an excellent swim for him, but really a testament to how far the sport has come. George was actually a semi finalist in the hundred four years ago in Athens when he was really concentrating on the IM. What a difference four years makes. He would have finalled with that time four years ago.
That being said, his front end speed looks good, so the 50 should see him get top 16 as a start.

So no more race for George. He done? what race did he win bronze in last time?
-
So no more race for George. He done? what race did he win bronze in last time?
He has the 50m freestyle starting tomorrow.
He won bronze in the 200IM in 2004. He no longer competes in this event because after the last olympics he suffered a serious knee injury. He considered quitting after that but decided to give the sprints a shot - the 50m freestyle and the 100m freestyle. The 50m is his stronger event so hopefully he makes it to the final
-
Nicolas placed 5th in his heat, did not qualify for the semis.
