Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, Frankie Hejduk, Tim Howard and Oguchi Onyewu are each carrying a caution into this match. Any player accumulating two cautions in the semifinal round will be suspended for the next FIFA World Cup qualifier.
T&T defender Avery John is suspended after picking up his second yellow card in the last game against Guatemala. Cornell Glen and Denis Lawrence are carrying cautions into Wednesday’s match.
Steve Cherundolo is eligible to play after serving a one-match suspension for receiving two yellow cards in the USA’s 1-0 win on Aug. 20 against Guatemala.
The U.S. is making its debut appearance at Toyota Park in Bridgeview. The team has 3-3-2 lifetime record in Chicago, including a 2-1 victory against Mexico that earned the United States the 2007 Gold Cup title.
The U.S. has an undefeated record in qualifying against Trinidad & Tobago, holding an 8-0-2 record. The two countries last met during qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, with the U.S. winning both matches.
The first meeting was the opening match of the final round, and the U.S. got goals from Eddie Johnson and Eddie Lewis pacing the visitors to a 2-1 victory in Port of Spain, Trinidad. In the second match, Brian McBride tallied the lone goal in the second minute for a 1-0 victory in East Hartford, Conn.
DaMarcus Beasley made his first-ever appearance in a World Cup qualifier in the USA’s last match of the 2002 qualifying tournament against Trinidad. Beasley only survived 45 minutes of the 0-0 draw on Nov. 11, 2001, at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, as a he received a concussion at the midway point of the first half and had to be replaced after the break.
Five players on the roster appeared in the USA’s last meeting against T&T, a 2-1 win on July 9, 2007, in group play of the 2007 Gold Cup: Bradley, Brian Ching (1), Ricardo Clark, Landon Donovan, Johnson (1) [starters in bold].
The U.S. boasts a 10-2-6 all-time record against Caribbean nations during World Cup qualifying, with a 29-1-5 overall record at home against teams from the Caribbean.
Howard, whose crucial save in the 88th minute preserved the USA’s win in Cuba, now boasts an impressive four clean sheets in five all-time FIFA World Cup qualifying appearances.
The U.S. has posted a 6-2-2 record in 2008, which includes four straight victories in FIFA World Cup qualifying, a road win against Poland and a 0-0 draw against No. 1-ranked Argentina. Overall, the U.S. has scored 18 goals while surrendering only five.
With his game-winning goal against Guatemala on Aug. 20, Carlos Bocanegra recorded his 10th career international goal for the United States and his second in FIFA World Cup qualifying.
Bocanegra is second on the USA’s all-time scoring list for defenders, now chasing the mark set by Marcelo Balboa (13).
Bradley leads the U.S. in 2008 in minutes played (737), having started nine games of the ten games this season (also a team high). Four players have appeared in eight games this season: Dempsey, Lewis, Onyewu and Heath Pearce.
Donovan leads the team in FIFA World Cup qualifying caps (23), and is tied with Eddie Johnson for most goals in qualifying [8]. Johnson has produced a remarkable strike rate, with eight goals in eight qualifying appearances. Johnson became the first player in U.S. history to score three goals as a substitute when he recorded a hat trick in the 6-0 semifinal round qualifying victory against Panama on Oct. 13, 2004, at RFK Stadium.
Johnson and Donovan are tied for third on the USA’s all-time goalscoring list in FIFA World Cup qualifying. Brian McBride is the USA’s all-time leading goalscorer in FIFA World Cup Qualifying with 10 goals scored over three FIFA World Cup cycles (1998, 2002, 2006).

Michael Orozco is the only uncapped player on the roster. The other 19 players have at least one cap to their credit. Orozco and defender Marvell Wynne are the only players on the roster who have not appeared in a FIFA World Cup qualifying game.
Leagues from eight different countries are represented on the U.S. roster: Belgium, Denmark, England (4), France, Germany (3), Mexico, Scotland (2) and the United States (7).
The U.S. collected a 12-2-4 record in the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, outscoring their opponents 35-11 while collecting 11 shutouts. The U.S. finished undefeated at home during the qualifying campaign, going 8-0-1, with all eight victories coming by shutout.

USA needs to stay sharp outside of CONCACAF.

The United States, on the other hand, really ought to have no trouble finishing at least second in a group that contains Cuba, Guatemala and Trinidad & Tobago. It's also hard to see major problems for Costa Rica in a section that also has El Salvador, Haiti and Suriname.
Indeed, thanks to countries like Cuba, Haiti and Suriname making it into the semifinals, the hexagonal final looks likely to contain at least one long shot, making it even more straightforward for the regional powers to eventually arrive in South Africa.
So why is this a problem? Because if the USA wants to do more than just show up in Johannesburg, it has to improve dramatically in the next 18 months. The only way to do that is to keep playing big games against big opponents. You can certainly criticize the way the Americans played against England and Spain, but you cannot criticize the decision to play these teams — indeed, the USA has to keep doing this.
We've learned a great deal about the USA from their recent five-game program:
The first thing is that some may start to believe Bradley is the man to guide the Americans in South Africa. He's a competent coach and a nice guy, but fresh blood might ultimately be required if the Americans are to reach their potential. That may be hard on Bradley, who took over when duty called, but the trend in world soccer is to import new ideas via foreign coaches and it may be necessary for the USA to try some of that before the next finals.
When players look bereft of ideas and confidence, this may be as much a failure of coaching as anything else. Bluntly, this team does not seem to have the tactical knowledge at hand to compete with true top-level opposition. It needs to get some, and getting some outside ideas would be a good place to start.
Were I U.S. Soccer, I'd be on the phone to Guus Hiddink's agent and pay him whatever he wishes. Yes, Hiddink is supposedly going to stay with Russia ... but this guy is canny. He has a very good Russian side, but if he gets to the final, can he really exceed that in the World Cup? A good coach knows when to leave on a high note.
I'd also take a hard look at Bruno Metsu, who has proven very gifted at getting bad teams out of jams. Look at the UAE if you doubt this — they don't call him the 'white witchdoctor' for nothing.
The question of whether a different coach could get more out of the American talent pool aside, what have we seen over these last five matches?
The USA is much better defensively when Pablo Mastroeni is in the lineup. This means that the USA had better start grooming a back-up sweeper. And, speaking of defense, the USA has yet to solve their overall problems. They found one solid player over this five-game span in left-back Heath Pearce, but they are going to have to get some cover — and outright replacements — at the three other slots.
Love him or hate him, the Americans are a radically different team without Landon Donovan in the lineup. If the USA doesn't have Donovan, they lose almost all creativity up top and their options are radically constrained as they were against England and Spain and even again yesterday in that snoozer in the Caribbean.
The lone scoring forward the USA has, Clint Dempsey, looked very jaded in the games he played. A rough year at Fulham seems to have taken a great deal out of him. The others simply are not ready: Eddie Johnson only scores goals when the Americans have a commanding lead, and neither Brian Ching nor Sacha Kljestan seems capable of filling the bill. What's needed? A competent target man who can play at speed. Brian McBride says he might return — will Bradley call him?
Right now, the USA only has one goalkeeper. Tim Howard is good, but Brad Guzan hasn't impressed and Dominic Cervi looked awful in Toulon. Matt Reis should be an option. Brad Friedel should also get a call: make him turn you down.
Midfield remains unsettled. This is the least of the USA's worries, as it happens. The four kids — Michael Bradley, Freddy Adu, Ricardo Clark and Maurice Edu — need some real seasoning, and they will have time to get it. Of the bunch, Adu showed the most, but only in spurts. Bradley's performance is more nuanced; it has to be very difficult for the son of the head coach to take what is the main leadership role in midfield on the national team. That said, he has not imposed himself on the game at any time over the past two months and will need to if the USA is going to succeed.
One final thing to keep in mind: The Americans open on the road, with games in Guatemala and then in Havana, Cuba. Neither opponent is particularly strong — the Guatemalans haven't beat the USA since 1988, after all — but Bradley has yet to go through this kind of pressure on the road where strange things can happen.
The visit to Havana will have a circus quality about it because of the political/historical overtones. It will not be easy to keep things level and focused down there so that makes game one so much more important. Back when Bruce Arena took over, his first trip through qualifying included the Guatemalans hosting the USA in steamy Mazatenango. They eked out a 1-1 draw. When game two resulted in a controversial loss in Costa Rica — remember that penalty assessed against Gregg Berhalter by Jamaican referee Peter Prendergast? — the Americans were playing from behind and almost didn't escape.
That shouldn't happen this time because Bradley has a much more experienced cast of characters to draw upon. But winning games in CONCACAF isn't what it is ultimately all about.
Therein lie both the challenges — and the questions — which continue to surround this team.

Well we waiting on a response from the USSF, but we suspect it wouldn't be forthcoming until dey ready to do de public sale (July 28), and den dey might tell we to deal wit Toyota Park or Ticketmaster directly. So until we have concrete details, those who want to take advantage of dis early sale, should go ahead. Just like in de Hasely, we should try to sit in sections 109/110, but since people would have different spending budgets, we should at least keep to sections 110-115.

The U.S. kicks the home section of the semi final round of World Cup qualifying with a game with Trinidad and Tobago in Chicago. The U.S. is in an interesting group with Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago and Guatemala.
The teams play a round-robin schedule with the top two teams advancing to next year’s regional finals, which will produce three World Cup qualifiers and a fourth team that goes to a playoff against the number five nation in South America for another berth.
While the U.S. will be favorites to take the top spot in the group it will not be easy with trough road trips to Cuba (first time in 61 years), a date at Guatemala’s intimidating Estadio Mateo Flores on August 20th and a test in Port of Spain against a resurgent Trinidad and Tobago.
With such difficult road games it is essential that the U.S. get maximum points from all its home games.
This World Cup game is perfectly timed for the U.S. as the European season will be underway, and the MLS season is still in full swing. That means all the U.S. players who play in Europe will be available for selection including Tim Howard, DaMarcus Beasley and Freddy Adu.
In exhibition games this earlier this summer against England, Spain and Argentina, it was very apparent that the U.S. was lacking a quality goal scorer. Whether Brian Ching or Kenny Cooper can step up and fill that role will determine how far the U.S. gets in South Africa in 2010.
The Soca Warriors of Trinidad and Tobago are trying to recapture the kind of form that saw them reach their first FIFA World Cup finals two years ago in Germany.
T&T hopes took a big hit in the summer when Kenwyne Jones of Sunderland was injured against England and he will miss this game. T&T is led by Stern John of Southampton who is the country’s all-time top scorer and finished only two strikes behind Mexico’s Jared Borgetti in the race for CONCACAF’s top marksman honors in the qualifiers for Germany.
Other Trinidad stars expected to be in the squad for this game are Gary Glasgow, Densil Theobald, Avery John and Carlos Edwards and Marvin Andrews.

USA needs to stay sharp outside of CONCACAF.

The first thing is that some may start to believe Bradley Maturana is the man to guide the Americans Trinis in South Africa. He's a competent coach and a nice guy, but fresh blood might ultimately be required if the Americans T&T are to reach their potential. That may be hard on Bradley Maturana, who took over when duty called, but the trend in world soccer is to import new ideas via foreign coaches and it may be necessary for the USA T&T to try some of that before the next finals.
When players look bereft of ideas and confidence, this may be as much a failure of coaching as anything else. Bluntly, this team does not seem to have the tactical knowledge at hand to compete with true top-level opposition. It needs to get some, and getting some outside ideas would be a good place to start.
Were I U.S. Soccer TTFF, I'd be on the phone to Guus Hiddink's agent and pay him whatever he wishes. Yes, Hiddink is supposedly going to stay with Russia ... but this guy is canny. He has a very good Russian side, but if he gets to the final, can he really exceed that in the World Cup? A good coach knows when to leave on a high note.
I'd also take a hard look at Bruno Metsu, who has proven very gifted at getting bad teams out of jams. Look at the UAE if you doubt this — they don't call him the 'white witchdoctor' for nothing.
The question of whether a different coach could get more out of the American T&T talent pool aside, what have we seen over these last five matches?
The USA T&T is much better defensively when Pablo Mastroeni Dennis Lawrence is in the lineup. This means that the USA T&T had better start grooming a back-up sweeper. And, speaking of defense, the USA T&T has yet to solve their overall problems. They found one solid player over this five-game span in left-back Heath Pearce Clyde Leon, but they are going to have to get some cover — and outright replacements — at the three other slots.
Love him or hate him, the USA T&T are a radically different team without Landon Donovan Stern John in the lineup. If the USA T&T doesn't have Donovan John, they lose almost all creativity up top and their options are radically constrained as they were against England and Spain and even again yesterday last week in that snoozer in the Caribbean Marvin Lee Stadium.
But winning games in CONCACAF isn't what it is ultimately all about.
Therein lie both the challenges — and the questions — which continue to surround this team.

I can't understand why the WN membership or posters on this forum,some of the nation's most ardent Soccer supporters does have problems getting tickets for games,i don't think it should be a problem because these are guaranteed tickets the Federation is sure to sell,is it because of the relationship with the TTFF?why can't we talk to Jack about this?i thought at one time WN was allotted a certain amount of tickets(not sure)?since we have Lasana on board is it possible for him to highlight this in one of his articles,just thoughts.

I saw that the game vs. the USA on Wednesday will be shown on Espn 2 but Flow cable in T&T does not have Espn 2 anymore... any local channels showing it? Any bars here? This is where Sancho can come in. What we need for this game is experience in the defense. We have no reason for the line of confrontation to be more than 5 yards into the US half. We do not need fullbacks joining the attack in this game. We most all do not want players making rash decisions or who are prone to make many wrong decisions.
Sancho should be fit enough to sit back and pick up Landon or Beasley even Dempsey coming in. If our aim is to get a goal or win the game then I don't know.

After watching the USA against Guatemala and Cuba, albeit away games...I say they are ripe for the picking...we should go all out and try to win this game...and YES I think it's "winable"...so ah hope Matu gets this one right....we CAN win this game :beermug:

I saw only the Guat game and only part at that.
However, before I get too excited, we played against a Cuban team missing about 5 or 6 players due to defections in the last three years.
Guat was playing for a draw and got a goal the moment they started looking for one.
I know we will play with heart on Wed. I wish them the best.
However, I prefer to look at the big picture before I get too excited about our present campaign.

Due to the heavy afternoon into evening rainfall, T&T's training session at the Toyota Park Training Pitch was called off and the team used an indoor hall at the Chicago Marriott Hotel. They work out for 90 minutes. T&T will train at the official match venue, Toyota Park, on Tuesday night.
Trinidad and Tobago’s national footballers had their first training session under rainy conditions at the Toyota Park Training Pitch yesterday and spirits were on the rise again as they look ahead to tomorrow’s 2010 World Cup Qualifying match against United States at Toyota Park.
T&T will have the services of defender Makan Hislop following his one match suspension but influential midfielder Dwight Yorke who captained the team in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Guatemala did not travel to Chicago and will not play on Wednesday.
Yorke met with Maturana on Saturday night after the match and indicated that he wanted to avoid any conflict with his team manager at Sunderland Roy Keane, saying that it was best if injury be given as the reason.
However, while admitting he held a high amount of respect for Sunderland manager Keane, Yorke did inform the T&T management team that the Irish man had ordered his recall via a text message. It is understood that Keane wanted the player back in Sunderland before Thursday in order for selection for Saturdays Premiership clash away to Wigan Athletic.
Keane however made no request for Carlos Edwards’ early return.
Edwards travels back to Sunderland on Thursday following the encounter with the USA a night earlier.
Defender Avery John is also out on a double yellow cards suspension.
Making a return is Aklie Edwards from a four-match suspension to fill that void in the left back position.
“We will play our game as we intend to, that is to be positive and attempt to get the three points. No game is easy and circumstances change but you have to be ready and we will do our best to be ready for Wednesday,” Maturana said.
“Nothing is a guarantee in football but I believe that we can achieve anything once we go about it in the right way. This we will try to do especially after a disappointing end with Guatemala on Saturday,” he added.
T&T midfielder Keon Daniel, scorer of three goals in T&T’s past two qualifying matches, said the “Soca Warriors” are not counting out the possibility of leaving Chicago with something to show on the points table.
“I think we were disappointed with the way the game ended on Saturday but the spirit isn’t down in the camp. As a matter of fact the guys are all feeling good and I feel we can pull something off on Wednesday. It’s going to be hard but the gap is closing and Wednesday will be a nice way to show it” Daniel said.
“My performance so far has been down to hard work and belief and I think I can say the same for the rest of the team. I don’t usually take shots from the outside but the coach has had me doing it a lot in training and I’m starting to believe more in myself. I got the ball, looked up and saw the chance and I went for it,” he explained.
Tomorrow’s game will be televised live on ESPN and former T&T goalkeeper Shaka Hislop is part of the commentary team. The match will also be broadcasted live on Radio 105 FM and I95.5fm.

The U.S. is making its debut appearance at Toyota Park in Bridgeview. The team has 3-3-2 lifetime record in Chicago, including a 2-1 victory against Mexico that earned the United States the 2007 Gold Cup title.
The U.S. has an undefeated record in qualifying against Trinidad & Tobago, holding an 8-0-2 record. The two countries last met during qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, with the U.S. winning both matches.
The first meeting was the opening match of the final round, and the U.S. got goals from Eddie Johnson and Eddie Lewis pacing the visitors to a 2-1 victory in Port of Spain, Trinidad. In the second match, Brian McBride tallied the lone goal in the second minute for a 1-0 victory in East Hartford, Conn.
DaMarcus Beasley made his first-ever appearance in a World Cup qualifier in the USA’s last match of the 2002 qualifying tournament against Trinidad. Beasley only survived 45 minutes of the 0-0 draw on Nov. 11, 2001, at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, as a he received a concussion at the midway point of the first half and had to be replaced after the break.
Five players on the roster appeared in the USA’s last meeting against T&T, a 2-1 win on July 9, 2007, in group play of the 2007 Gold Cup: Bradley, Brian Ching (1), Ricardo Clark, Landon Donovan, Johnson (1) [starters in bold].
The U.S. boasts a 10-2-6 all-time record against Caribbean nations during World Cup qualifying, with a 29-1-5 overall record at home against teams from the Caribbean.
Howard, whose crucial save in the 88th minute preserved the USA’s win in Cuba, now boasts an impressive four clean sheets in five all-time FIFA World Cup qualifying appearances.
The U.S. has posted a 6-2-2 record in 2008, which includes four straight victories in FIFA World Cup qualifying, a road win against Poland and a 0-0 draw against No. 1-ranked Argentina. Overall, the U.S. has scored 18 goals while surrendering only five.
With his game-winning goal against Guatemala on Aug. 20, Carlos Bocanegra recorded his 10th career international goal for the United States and his second in FIFA World Cup qualifying.
Bocanegra is second on the USA’s all-time scoring list for defenders, now chasing the mark set by Marcelo Balboa (13).
Bradley leads the U.S. in 2008 in minutes played (737), having started nine games of the ten games this season (also a team high). Four players have appeared in eight games this season: Dempsey, Lewis, Onyewu and Heath Pearce.
Donovan leads the team in FIFA World Cup qualifying caps (23), and is tied with Eddie Johnson for most goals in qualifying [8]. Johnson has produced a remarkable strike rate, with eight goals in eight qualifying appearances. Johnson became the first player in U.S. history to score three goals as a substitute when he recorded a hat trick in the 6-0 semifinal round qualifying victory against Panama on Oct. 13, 2004, at RFK Stadium.
Johnson and Donovan are tied for third on the USA’s all-time goalscoring list in FIFA World Cup qualifying. Brian McBride is the USA’s all-time leading goalscorer in FIFA World Cup Qualifying with 10 goals scored over three FIFA World Cup cycles (1998, 2002, 2006).

Michael Orozco is the only uncapped player on the roster. The other 19 players have at least one cap to their credit. Orozco and defender Marvell Wynne are the only players on the roster who have not appeared in a FIFA World Cup qualifying game.
Leagues from eight different countries are represented on the U.S. roster: Belgium, Denmark, England (4), France, Germany (3), Mexico, Scotland (2) and the United States (7).
The U.S. collected a 12-2-4 record in the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, outscoring their opponents 35-11 while collecting 11 shutouts. The U.S. finished undefeated at home during the qualifying campaign, going 8-0-1, with all eight victories coming by shutout.

Kingman it was Fox Soccer phone in and steven & nick had a question about getting rid of world cup quilifier group stages and how its a waste of time, esp in our zone because US and Mexico always makes it....they also said that fifa should get rid of the grouping and just have one big group like they do in south america and let everyone battle it out.....not everything was directed at T&T, it was more towards Haiti and Cuba with there poor conditions.

Two things to add. 1. The men making the comments are actually British (or wanna be Brits since they always refer to the English team as "our" team. 2. The discussion stemmed from their belief that in the future, the clubs would refuse access to their players because of the huge investment made in these players by their respective clubs. Their belief was that the clubs stood to loose a lot with the players playing games against countries with little or no football pedigree. It was not as much US beating their chest as one would like to make of it. I almost think of it as a similar argument in Cricket with regards to the minnows being allowed on the World Cup Stage.
Those guys always try to create a discussion to hype their little show, all about nothing really. Every week their is a phone in topic with topics like "Should Gerrard and Lampard be on the field at the same time?" "Has Capello changed anything about England's play?" "Should we have World Cup qualifiers" and so on and on...
Last night's discussion is not as far fetched as some would like to believe. If we think only Sunderland is putting pressure on Yorke to abandon their country's World Cup qualifier and to think that this would not get worse, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale. Very shortly we might see a Club Owner putting a price (40 Million Euro) to abandon playing for Country. W ewill come to understand that the present FIFA World Cup Model might be less Sustainable than a World Club League Model with only the best players.

we have been playing better football, this last game against guat, we played better defense except for he last 5 mins, the only hiccup so far in the campaign was bermuda, complecency was our flaw, other than that we have been playing better than last wcq rounds, last time we played guat they score 2 on us in our own backyard and we had to play catch up, this time around they looked unable to score.

This is actually the first time I ever heard that the US play 2 holding midfielders in their squad, essentially this could mean that they play with 6 defenders. The question is how do we counter this defensive tactic and use it to our advantage. This was reported in the newsday when they spoke to the coach. He was unsure whether he would employ this method of formation against us but I believe he will.
I think we should play a 442 and attack, because the US seem to be content to hold fort and wait on the counter.
What must also come into consideration is how good a chess player is Maturana? ;D

The respective leagues are run by the Country's Football Federations. Although their interest is having the best league in the world for revenue generation, they are also interested in developing their respective talent pools. The clubs are the ones that desire the foreign players to improve their chances of success. It is a business.
The number of non-English players playing in the EPL only went up as a result of the European Union. Otherwise the rules are pretty much the same. English football has been dealt a serious blow by the infusion of European players. Just check the percentage of Brits starting in the top 6 teams. Further more if we were to list an EPL All Star team we might be hard pressed to get 4 Brits on the team.

Americans can near verge of advancement with win over T&T

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (Tuesday, September 9, 2008) -- After capturing the maximum six points from their first two CONCACAF Group 1 semifinal-round qualifying matches, the United States men could move to the doorstep of advancing to the final six-nation, round-robin by defeating Trinidad & Tobago tomorrow night at Toyota Park
The 8 p.m. (ET) match will be televised by ESPN2 and Galavision.
After opening in Guatemala with a 1-0 victory and downing Cuba 1-0 Saturday night in Havana, the Americans face their first semifinal qualifier on home soil against T&T. With two of six games completed, the U.S. is 2-0 with six points, followed by the Trinidadians, who are 1-0-1 with four points after Saturday's 1-1 home draw with Guatemala.
Guatemala is 0-1-1 with one point while Cuba is 0-2 with no points.
U.S. coach Bob Bradley will likely start a similar lineup to the one that faced Cuba. One change he will probably make is to replace Frankie Hejduk at right back with usual starter Steve Cherundolo, who was suspended for the Cuba match after receiving a red card against Guatemala.
The lineup will probably have Tim Howard, in goal, fronted by Heath Pearce, Carlos Bocanegra., Oguchi Onyewu and Cherundolo from left to right on defense. DaMarcus Beasley, Michael Bradley, Maurice Edu and Clint Dempsey are expected to form the midfield with Landon Donovan on top. The second forward could be either Brian Ching, who started against Cuba, or Eddie Johnson, who remained on the bench.
Bradley, Dempsey, Hejduk, Howard and Onyewu each have a yellow card and a caution against T&T would mean they would miss the October 11 meeting with Cuba at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
The Soca Warriors, as T&T is known, have emerged as the second best team in the group after opening with a 3-1 road win in Cuba. Against Guatemala, they surrendered the tying goal in stoppage time.
Head coach Francisco Maturana made some radical changes from the team that did not qualify for the last World Cup. He brought back some veterans who were excluded by the previous regime, such as 36-year-old Dwight Yorke and Major League Soccer veteran Cornell Glen, while giving the cold shoulder to veterans such as Stern John, the striker from Southampton in England. Maturana also turned to newcomers, such as Keon Daniel, who has scored three goals in the team's last two qualifying matches.
Yorke will not face the Americans. After playing against Guatemala, his club, Sunderland of England recalled him, saying he was injured in that game.
Maturana's lineup for tomorrow is not clear. In addition to Yorke, he will be without Sunderland forward Kenwyne Jones, recovering from knee surgery, and midfielder Chris Birchall of England's Coventry City, who was dropped from the squad after suffering food poisoning in Cuba. Defender Avery John, who plays for Miami FC of the U.S. second division, is suspended after picking up his second yellow card of this round against Guatemala.
For the U.S., this match should be more wide-open than the struggles in Guatemala and Cuba. The Soca Warriors have speed all over the field and will be a good test for the Americans. One goal might not be enough for Bradley's troops this time around..

So de day ah de game, we chupid coach make we team sit dong in a cramp maxi for bout 3 hours driving in traffic and hot sun before a crucial game. When i read some of these posts it amazes me how peeps are surprised by what ever treatment we getting where ever we go,this not happening now ask anybody that play international sport not only Football they will tell you some of the things that go on,i'll always go back to the Nakhid incident when peeps on here was stating he was wrong and should be banned from T&T,Jamaica came to T&T look what happened,i could recall a few incidents in my time but these things were not made public,modern day apparatus can update the world of any incident or event that occurs as it happens,when teams go anywhere now they carry everything and what they don't carry they send someone upfront to ensure they have what they want when they get there,nobody going to give you anything if you don't ask for it,tell me who does worry about the weather in T&T it have no Spring,Fall or Winter it's all Summer ,where/when ever rain fall we does just find some place to shelter,if we have bad weather in T&T tell me where any team can practice,what Indoor facility do we have.
Guys this is not a matter of they treat us bad and we have to retaliate by treating them bad,these things as simple as they are could have international repercussions,governments,people etc etc are involved,everybody wants to be welcomed when they go to another country,it's scary being in a place where people don't like you so we have to treat people good,look at how we feeling could you imagine how our players does feel and they have to go out there and play,that's why we have to respect international players they don't have it easy,imagine playing against a bunch of guys you don't know what the hell they saying,they cussing and you don't know.

This campaign is the worst I see T&T play in awhile. Whenever I can get to see the game that is. I do believe I see livlier football in de SSFL. You would not believe that so many professionals in this team. We need to bring back Beenie, plain talk. Pacho eh cutting it. He STILL experimenting and trying out this late into the campaign. The team lacks cohesion not to mention good passing. And most of all where is that defense that Beenie instilled? It is always our weakness. Oh gosh man Jackula, replace dis man quick! The performance on saturday was without a doubt the best in almost 18 months. Remember the team tonight is minus Dwight, Lawrence and Avery John. Now look at the replacements - Telesford, akile Edwards and Makan Hislop. Check Touches reports he never big up any of these men. I expected this sort of a performance, sad to say.

We jumping on Pacho already. The problem is not Pacho. The problem is that we lack good mid-field. This is not the first time. This is the norm for TT. They good against Guy, Gren etc, but against the big three they are always ineffective.

I agree as well and said as much in a post a while ago directed at men getting optimistic about narrow wins against the likes of Grenada, Bermuda, Guyana, Netherlands Antilles, Haiti and El Salvador.
And that 4-5-1 system is very inhospitable to any sort of attacking play. Every game I've seen so far, Carlos has been frustrated but can we blame him when he makes a run and no one is available within 30 yards to support? He taking alot of stick these days but the system have alot to do with it as well.

I don't agree with that. The few balls Glenn got he did what he could do. He had a ball and Carlos arrive 30 minutes later making the wrong "supporting" run. He get another ball and get away from the full back play it across the goa and Carlos did not even move. How much could you ask a player to do in a 1 v 4 situation. Poor performance today
Carlos' touch and rhythm was off today, but his energy was exemplory. If our entire midfield played with that energy the game would have been alot different even with our technical deficiencies.
Akile Edwards was lost in the 1st half. I think he found his bearings a bit better in the 2nd.
The Lawrence decision just seems insane- I wait to hear an explanation for that one if there is one...
Based on this performance, Telesford has no right playing in Nat'l senior colours. I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he just had a nightmare game
Keon Daniel has a good first step and is good at getting past his marker, but he lacks an end product- kinda reminds me Toussaint- could have alot to do with who is around him (his supporting cast of teammates)
Cornel cannot post up- it's just not his game. It seems like he's lost some speed and he was pretty much useless... I would have like to see what Kenwyne woulda looked like today. I feel the role was designed for a KJ.
Everyone else was so uninvolved it's tough to comment. Collectively our game was just very amateur...kinda like the opening rounds of the English FA cup when a lower division or conference team plays against an EPL team, and aside from the moments of inspiriation it just looks like they don't belong at that level.
We have no clue on set plays- glaring deficiency
Our football often proves to be amateur, which is why I laugh when men talk about us being as technically capable and more skilful than the U.S. but merely lacking steel and discipline...that's just laughable.....
I think we can still get out of this group because the standard of football is our zone is just poor.....we need to do alot of work and select the best players or else we will always be laughable when we step up to a higher level.

Nah...Onyewu and Bradley Stood in an offside position but as Beasley approach the ball they stepped up and the defenders dropped, Onyewu boxed out Glenn I think and Bradley went on to the score the goal after being played onside. It was really bad marking getting trapped in behind. Novices. They need to square up to the attackers making sure their body position is facing up field and away from their goal so they can attack the ball. The attacker will have to come at them.

Dempsey say dey could not understand why de left back was playing so far off and give them so much space without any support. Dey chose to exploit that. Keon Daniel was playing in a more offensive role so Pancho did not want to take away his offense to play baby sitter. I doh really like de way we have de Team Shaping Up on Defense. De boys in their half playing goal side but dey not hustling or closing de gaps. De ball watching on dem passes over de top was embarrassing to say de least. 3 big hard back men flat footed and watching in unison as de ball go over dey head like children in Piarco watching plane take off was amateurish. I'm sure a solid 95% of that team frustrated one way or another, it's evident on the field. What I will hold Pacho responsible for (other than the bottomline, of course) is fielding a cohesive unit. There has been too many shuttling of players in and out of the line up. Now that's a chicken or the egg argument of course... does the unsettled lineup beget the lack of cohesion and production on the field... or does the lack and cohesion/production lead to constant overhaul of the line up?

Bakes...as you tape the game, watch 2 things. 1st goal..Ching was offside the whole time. Not Onyewu and Bradley. Ching never got onside and he was involved in the play. Then..on the 2nd goal. Watch when Onyewu wins the ball it is a blatant hand ball. He completely misstimes it and wins the ball with his hand. They even show a replay and Harkes with he smart man self eh say nutten while he comments on it. That said...we were awful and shoulda colleck about 6 easy, so dem two goals eh hurting me...but they should not have been allowed to stand.

Therefore, the most likely place for them to lose points is away from home and they only have one more away game.

Nah...Onyewu and Bradley Stood in an offside position but as Beasley approach the ball they stepped up and the defenders dropped, Onyewu boxed out Glenn I think and Bradley went on to the score the goal after being played onside. It was really bad marking getting trapped in behind. Novices. They need to square up to the attackers making sure their body position is facing up field and away from their goal so they can attack the ball. The attacker will have to come at them.
I just watched the game and was specifically watching the positioning... at the time the ball was struck they were standing in an offside position. From what I saw.
Bakes...as you tape the game, watch 2 things. 1st goal..Ching was offside the whole time. Not Onyewu and Bradley. Ching never got onside and he was involved in the play. Then..on the 2nd goal. Watch when Onyewu wins the ball it is a blatant hand ball. He completely misstimes it and wins the ball with his hand. They even show a replay and Harkes with he smart man self eh say nutten while he comments on it. That said...we were awful and shoulda colleck about 6 easy, so dem two goals eh hurting me...but they should not have been allowed to stand.
Good goal, watch we #3. You cannot see him when the ball is initially struck because he is sandwiched between Bradley and Ching. He was even with them so he kept them on. It was great timinig by the USA and shocking marking by the defense.

Ah know de handball yuh talking about... was on the right side (from the US perspective) and he attempted to chest/shoulder the ball down but it came off his left bicep instead. I didn't view it as a deliberate handball at the time, but it was an obvious one, not sure why it wasn't called. In that case it should have been a free-kick to TnT... but I wouldn't really say that the second goal should not have been allowed because of that. If it's the same play we're talking about I don't see it as being directly involved in the goal... we should have defended better...ball went right thru ah man legs.
On the first goal there were three players in the box (wasn't really watching face, so I'll have to check to see if was Ching) and one was borderline offside as the ball was struck... the other was a step offside. Bradley was in the clear, he ran in onto the ball as it fell... but the offside player/s were involved in the play as you said... poor defending still.

What? no analysis of the two missed penalty calls? I not dissing T&T team, but I watched Jamaica, Haiti and T&T play yesterday and Joe Public look like they could beat all three.

i agree...the states coulda have two penalty calls and the replays show the last goal wasn't offside, even though it look so at first. We deserve to lose 3-0 despite whatever bad calls we get.
