Greetings.

You guys have to remember that unlike theold board where you could see post titles and disern where to read, here you have to scroll down every fu&^%^ page and scan each post.
You can't appreciate a thread like that if you have to do so much work.

There should be a way to list threads as RSS feeds. I know the forum as a whole has an RSS feed, but don't know about individual threads - that way it would be easier to list by title and date of post.

Ruiz chasing historic farewell.
For years now, the name Carlos Ruiz has been synonymous with the Guatemalan national team. Widely known by the nickname El Pescadito (The Little Fish), Ruiz's goal-laden performances in USA's Major League Soccer have made him an inspiration for millions of his fellow countrymen and a genuine star on the CONCACAF scene.
Now 28, the lethal striker is facing the greatest challenge of his career thus far: spearheading Guatemala's bid for a place at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. And though determined not to get carried away, the Chapín fans' favourite was in confident mood when speaking about this and a range of other issues with FIFA.com.
Ready for action
"We're in really good shape, we're ready and our minds are totally focused on the start of qualifying, especially after what happened four years ago," says Ruiz, whose team welcome the USA to Guatemala City on 20 August for their opening Group 1 encounter. "We were just one game away from finishing in fourth place [in the North, Central America and Caribbean Zone] and that would have earned us a play-off place."
Indeed, in the six-team final qualifying round for Germany 2006, Ruiz and Co finished just two points shy of fourth spot and a play-off against an Asian Zone representative. A 3-2 away defeat to Trinidad and Tobago in the final run-in had proved decisive, however, and the Chapines could only look on as the Soca Warriors edged past Bahrain to take their place in Germany.
"It was the first time that a Guatemalan national team had still been in with a chance of making the finals going into the final game, and that was a big achievement in itself," says the LA Galaxy hitman. "Of course, missing out was hard to swallow, but we'd never been in that situation before. So now we intend to use that experience to take a definitive step forward."
And the experienced striker believes the Guatamalans have all the ingredients to do just that. "We've got good young players, who are important to us and have a lot of quality," he says. "On top of that, we've got the same coaching staff in place, one that knows the regional game well. We're also much more experienced, which contrasts with what happened to us in the last qualifying campaign."
Nevertheless, El Pescadito is fully aware of the difficulty of the task ahead, after Guatemala were grouped together with T&T and regional powerhouses the USA. "As we've said, Guatemala aren't the favourites and so we'll have to play every game as if it were a final. Our first game is against the United States and that will set the standard for the rest of the qualifiers."
Varied attacking threat
As far as Ruiz is concerned, this Guatemala squad's biggest strength is its versatility. "We've got players who are technically gifted, others who are quick and others who are physically strong. The way we play will depend on the players out on the pitch and which opponents we're facing," explains the former FC Dallas front-runner. "We've always been a very skilful side, now we have to find something extra in order to be more effective."
With that in mind, Ruiz believes Guatemala are lacking in one vital ingredient: experience abroad. "Definitely, because the standard of the Guatemalan league is below that of international level, and when you play for the national team you notice the difference," says the veteran of six years in the MLS.
"This competition must be treated like a shop window, like it was in my case. I made my national team debut, scored several goals and that opened the doors for a move abroad."
And how has he changed after so long away from his homeland? "I'm more mature, I see football in a different light. Being outside Guatemala makes you develop a much stronger personality and be more professional."
Given his success Stateside, does he see European football as the logical next step? "I've got a comfortable life in the United States and at my age that's very important. I'd only consider offers that were on a par with my current situation, and they haven't materialised as yet."
One thing he is clear upon is that he will not be leading the line for his country for much longer. "I don't think I'll keep playing for the national team once this qualifying campaign is over. What I'm aiming to do is to make the fans' dream a reality," he says with conviction. "I'm hoping this is the opportunity that we've all been waiting for to qualify [for the FIFA World Cup finals] and that way I can bow out having made history."
His short-term objectives thus laid out, what does the cool-headed goal-getter plan to do when he eventually brings his club career to an end? "I've been thinking about those things more, and I want to stay in the United States because it's better for my family," says Ruiz, who currently shares a dressing room with fellow Galaxy stars David Beckham and Landon Donovan.
"And while I don't see myself as a coach, I would like to work with young players and pass on my experience, perhaps because when I was in Guatemala I had nobody to guide me and had to learn everything for myself."

OK we did the business away from home now this match is a must win...if we win our 3 home matches we should be safely through to the Hex on 12 points.
By the time USA comes to play us in October they may have already qualified so we should have a chance to beat them at home like we did vs Mexico a couple times.

This game is of paramount importance. Lets face it. We are in a battle for the second spot with Guatemala. This game isnt jus about 3 pts, the goal difference factor is very big too. God's willing ah go have to be in d stadium 4 that one.

Well my follow Trinibagoian.... this game is BIG like the other has said...blazing gun they will be coming with blood in dey eye and T&T have to expect that....we will be facing the same Guat team from that last qualifying match we won....same guys and coaching staff so i hope the T&T staff know that...but the bottom line we have to win this game to really set the tone

True. I hope the less the ticket price so it will be over sell out and put some temporary seat/stand on the track. The track is a waste of space. the fans should be close to the field like them UK stadium for crowd intimidation of opponents.

Whitley will take Hyland's place and maybe Andrei Pacheco, Glenton Wolfe or Nigel Daniel to be groomed for left back.

I doubt they go bring Julius now but I feel he should be a part of our squad for the qualifiers.

Guatemala played a physical game against the U.S and they will be playing even more physical on Sept 6th cause they need points..T&T geetting ruffed up all year..jamaica was more physical when we played them at home and we get ruff him in Cuba..not saying we need to go Kung FU on them but we moust also play the physical game on Sep 6th.

one was about the hurricane weather and the next one was something else..
.my mind was on the match and tnt getting a win etc...but why is Warner's son being quoted in TTFF press releases ??.. it had no one else to ask for a quote ??...wham to Muhammad the manager ???

Iman lookin fwd to this game more than most...leave home 7 yrs now...eh visit in 3 1/2...but goin nex week and kinda time my trip to b there for this. Use to go all games when is like 25 men in d stand rather than 25000. Support d team no matter what so can't wait to c wha d vibe is like in 2008 rather than mih young days like 98 or whaeva. what dat mean?..this aint no club..am sure if Warner did not exist private assistance would have been more than what it is now..most private companies doh want to do business with warner...doh need no man with money...need more private assistance to do business with the TTFF..but then again not many businesses want to deal with Camps either...

This will be a very intense game and I hope and pray our defense holds up strong. They will definitely be gunning for us since we virtually knocked them out of 4th place. Remember they beat us 5-1 in Guatemala with Edwards scoring the only 1 for us. And we catch we tail to miraculously beat them 3-2 and that was with our best team and our great Latapy and his magic. In that game we were losing 1-0 and then 2-1 before winning. And the 2 goals we conceeded to them were real soft goals they running through the middle and making Marvin Andrews look slow...
I do hope we can beat them for once and for all!!

T&T back on the rise

Trinidad and Tobago are back on track after coming perilously close to tumbling out of qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. Losing the first leg of their pre-qualifying series to Bermuda on home soil, the Germany 2006 finalists were forced to contemplate a disastrous early exit.
However, goals from Darryl Roberts and Stern John in Prospect saw the Soca Warriors steady their ship and limp into the first group stage of qualifying from North, Central America and the Caribbean. A 3-1 win over Cuba in their first Group game now has the Caribbean side edging the USA for top spot on goal difference, while spurring a jump of ten places up the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking.
Moving from 102nd to 92nd this month, the island side are finding a foothold even with their fair share of recent hardship. New coach Francisco ‘Pacho' Maturana, who took over from former boss Leo Beenhakker in February, has had to make do without the services of Sunderland ace Kenwyne Jones, who injured knee ligaments in a June friendly loss to England.
The Colombian boss has also been without Jones' Sunderland teammate and T&T's greatest-ever player, Dwight Yorke. After he fractured his cheekbone, the former Manchester United man's July pledge to return from international retirement and help the team in their qualifiers has proven a tough one to keep.
One of the men who has stepped into the void left by the dual injury blow is Keon Daniel, two-goal hero of T&T's recent 3-1 win over the Cubans in Havana. "We really wanted those three points against Cuba," said the United Petrotrin man and former U-20 international, recently linked with a move to England. "Now we just need to take heart from the progress we showed in that game and keep moving forward."
Guatemala test
Their next test will come against Guatemala in Port of Spain on 6 September. The Chapines are eight places behind T&T in the global standings (two behind them in the CONCACAF zone), and smarting from a slim 1-0 loss to the USA in their first group-stage qualifier.
Although the Central Americans will be out for blood against the Caribbean hopefuls, Cornell Glen - who also scored against the Cubans - is keen for the side to keep up the progress.
"The win over Cuba is the perfect start for us as we look ahead to our games with Guatemala and then the USA," the San Juan Jabloteh forward said. "Getting points on the road in our opener is a terrific boon for our confidence and we will just need to keep it up."
With sturdy recent performances in defence from Dennis Lawrence, Avery John and Clyde Leon, the Soca Warriors are firing on all cylinders even without their key injured pair. Maturana is hoping they can ride their current upswing in form further up the world ranking, and all the way to a second straight world finals in South Africa in 2010.

i see your optimism is shining through this morning girl ;D as long as leon in the back and they put thomas instead of makan, we will be good, only one problem exists we dont have a creative mid, all of them playing pro league and can get a bligh, once we have hardest, guerra or a dwarika in the middle, the whole game changes...

Steups...I missed this game. My cousin decide to get married dat same day. I was part of the bridal party and ah miss de whole ceremony!!! :o :(.....ah get stuck in traffic around de Hasley Crawford....and ah think mih cousin still vex wid mih up to this day....although he never voice it.... ;D

With just over a week to go before this country’s next 2010 World Cup qualifier at home to Guatemala, head coach Francisco Maturana has announced a 22-man provisional squad for the encounter at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on September 6.

The squad will have a return of several of the members from the one which came away 3-1 winners over Cuba in Havana on August 20. There are call ups for in form Swansea City striker Jason Scotland and Toronto FC defender Julius James while Sunderland midfielder Dwight Yorke is also on the list of invited overseas professionals. Yorke made a return from injury with a 70-minute run for Sunderland’s Reserves last week. Sunderland midfielder Carlos Edwards is also in the squad.
Defence Force defender Aklie Edwards is also in the squad and will be eligible for action in the qualifiers having completed a four-match suspension for a red card offense in an Olympic qualifier against Cuba earlier this year.

That was a positive indication of our progress Now we will try to keep that going and prepare as best as we can for Guatemala and America,” he added. Maturana will see his players again when training resumes on Monday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Meantime, members of the squad which completed the win over Cuba were each offered a letter of congratulations from the TTFF for their efforts in Havana.

Bask in your victory, but always keep in mind that it will not get easier. All teams have a burning desire to get to the World Cup. You must want it more and demonstrate this hunger for victory. Whitley may still be feeling the lingering effects of injury and is best not to rush him back if he not compeltely ready IMO.
Yorke coming back into the side instantly adds experience and quality to the midfield, not to mention leadership.
Yuh really cyah complain about the recall for Jason Scotland. Yes, we will miss Stern's goal scoring abilities but Scotty as a replacement isn't too shabby. Still cyah figure out how Toussaint reamins on the team tho.
A welcome opportunity for Julius James and he's quite versatile too as he plays anywhere along the back line for TFC even though his preferred position is central defence. A threat at set pieces as well.

However....I not at de trainin sessions so I cyah say fuh certain dat Toussaint eh rippin in trainin or sumting.
What I like most about DR is that he is one forward who will help the midfield. He WILL track back, lots of energy, very mobile, and will fight de game right thru. He has his good and bad games like anybody else, but I go have to defer to the coaching staff wit dah one.

Looking decent. We have 3/4 of our World Cup defense there and that's made a big difference in the squad recently. Now if only we could put Sancho instead of Hislop to complete the picture.
Also I think Leon will start ahead of Telesford in defensive mid and Birchall should really be starting over Theobald but obviously he ent make the squad for whatever reason. Whitely when fit will be our best option there.

But $500 TT for covered stands is $80 US. That's comparable to prices they were charging at the World Cup in Germany! For a semi-final round WCQ that is rediculous. If uncovered stands were to sell out (which it won't but that should be the goal of the TTFF to assure the best possible crowd support) people who want to support the team live would be forced into this highway robbery.

Thousands of primary and secondary school students will be outfitted with neatly pressed uniforms, new shoes, book bags and books for the start of yet another academic year which begins on Tuesday.
However, while students may be waiting with bated breaths for the first day of school, parents have been bogged down by the costly burdens associated with ensuring that their children are ready and fully equipped for school.
Sixty years ago the average cost of books for a primary school students was $3 and for secondary students it was $10. In the old days, transport was cheap or children walked to school with just a notebook and pen and a penny in their pockets.
Today however, the price of sending a child to school has undoubtedly increased with parents having to dig even deeper into their pockets following the steady rise of the inflation rate over the past few months. With the start of each new academic year, parents must now spend more than $2,000 for basic items such as books and uniforms including physical education uniforms, shoes and school accessories such as book bags, notebooks, pens and pencils.
Many are therefore forced to find alternative but cheaper ways in cushioning the effects of the high prices such as buying second hand books. Some parents simply refuse to purchase some items they may deem as unnecessary.
While a uniform can cost an average of $125 for a secondary school student, working class parents may not be able to afford to buy five uniforms for $625 for each school day.
A visit to Port-of-Spain will see parents exercising their thriftiness trying to get the best bargain out of every item that is purchased.
Parents however said that the real pinch now comes from paying the high cost of food and transport.
Several parents told Business Day that although the Education Ministry has provided students with lunch and breakfast as well as free books, the cost of the remaining items is still be out of reach for many.
A parent whose son attends the Rosary Boys’ Anglican Primary School, said she had two jobs and was struggling to make ends meet on her $3,200 monthly salary.
“The cheapest good shoe is about $200. However, the school requires that he has three pairs of shoes to match the varying uniforms. He needs a white pair for his games clothing, a brown pair for his regular uniform and a black pair of shoes for his dress uniform. In total I have to spend about $600 on shoes alone,” said the parent.
She also added that while the Education Ministry was providing books, there were still some texts that were not provided and which were quite costly.
“I spent over $500 on books alone,” said the parent adding that she was yet to purchase uniforms and other accessories.
She complained that while she could have managed with purchasing the school items, the added cost of transport and food, estimated to be about $1,600 per month, would be the most challenging aspect of sending her child to school.
“I live in St Ann’s and the cost of transport is over $200 per month,” said the parent.
She also said that with the extremely high cost of food, the money spent on snacks and lunch would also inevitably be high.
Meanwhile, another parent also told of the high cost of sending her two children to primary school.
“I have a budget of $1,200 and when that is finished, my children would just have to do without what I couldn’t afford,” said the parent.
She stated that she cuts the cost by having her children take meals provided for by the Education Ministry. “Even though they don’t like the food that is served, they have no choice to take it because I cannot afford to give them the food everyday,” said the parent.
She also sews the uniforms herself to avoid having to pay the high prices for the ready-made uniforms.
“The material is about $15 per yard so I sew the uniforms and cut off the monograms from the old uniforms to save some money. The price of a uniform in the store is $80,” said the parent.
Checks at several stores showed that the average price of a uniform for a female primary school student was $100 for an overall and $25 for the shirt. The price range of skirts for primary school students was $60 and more. Parents must pay $120 for an overall for a secondary school student and $30 for the shirt. The average price of a pants for a male primary school student was between $60 and $80.
Parents also said buying fabric and paying a tailor to sew new uniforms may not necessarily be cheaper as many tailors and seamstresses were charging exorbitant prices for their services.
Several parents also said the price of sending a teenager to secondary school was higher as more needs have to be met.
Students at secondary school do more subjects and parents have to spend more on books.
A parent whose son attends St Mary’s College lamented that she had to seek financial assistance from relatives to ensure her son is prepared for school.
“Books and uniforms are extremely expensive. The cheapest book that I have bought is $190. A uniform costs $120 and five uniforms are needed which cost $600. I would have spent between $2,000 and $3,000 to prepare my child for school,” said the parent.
However, while shoes, uniforms and books may be some of the most expensive items, there are several smaller expenses that inevitably take a toll on the parents’ wallets.
These include school accessories such stationery, socks, book bags, belts, lunch kits and hair accessories (for girls) which, when added up, cost several hundreds of dollars.
The average price of a book bag is about $200 with the more expensive and fashionable styles costing in excess of $400. Socks are priced at $10 per pair costing parents $50 for five pairs. Belts are $25 and lunch kits $45.
With the cost of these items expected to increase, young people will have no choice but to forsake their love of brands and get back to basics.

People, let me put an end to dis bickering and online arguments:
$200 is not a bad price to pay for this match or any other WCQ. Even though I amd many others can't afford to fork out $200 every time, we would gladly spend $200 to go some all inclusive fete, buy a pair of sneakers that probably should be valued at $50, or entertain ourselves in whatever way we choose. Yes it is hard to part with $200 these days especially with an inflation rate of 11.9% and climbing.
Waggonist are people who don't have a clue what going on in football but show up at de games for de lime, entertainment and just to brag dat dey were at de games when Trinidad win and have another reason to go down Crobar. If it weren't for the obvious Soca Warriors kit they wouldn't even know which is the Trinidad side.
There are waggonist who would pay $200 or $500 every time we are having one of these WCQ games for the above reasons and would not sweat it. There are waggonists who would not pay $200 to come to see T&T play Guatemala because in their mind dey think Guatemala is a small team we playing and dey will wait for when we play USA or Mexico.
There are de 'die hards' who unfortunately cannot afford the $200 and i really wish some arrangement could be made for them because these are the ones who will go de 'not so significant' games everytime.
There are the 'die hards' who could afford to pay the $200 and don't complain because they have sense to know that $200 for a WCQ is reasonable.

I think we need to drop lawrence for this game and go with Thomas. He would be more able to handle the quick short Guatemalans than the tallman.

I would keep hislop in the side because he is quicker and also we need to mold our defense for the future.

Lawrence is a must !!!!!! he is very verbal too... he scored against the quick Panama side last WCQ...
His lack of club matches is a worry but his WCQ experience is invaluable...he's faced Guatemala and similar style teams in these pressure situations several times before and done well. if anything Thomas (or James) for Hislop.

What happened halftime. Those two subs (Carlos and Densil) were very questionable in book. And what was Wolfe doing there instead of Baptiste if you going to take off Carlos. If anyone had to come off it was De Leon-he had a real off day.
dread halftime i see pacho and he brother quarreling next thing i see no carlos no theobald, something went on in that dressing room. suspicious. he bring on wolffe and he was a pack of shit stueps
Nah the plan was to bring on goal scorers cause we were dominating but not taking our chances. Carlos and Denzil doh score goals...Wolfe scoring regularly in the previous games and Toussaint is a striker. I find Scotty shoulda get a chance instead of Toussaint, but Toussaint didn't do bad. Wolfe had a off game but we can't fault the coach for that. He was going for the jugular..it just didn't work.
De Leon had to stay on because once the subs were made we started playing with a diamond midfield and Yorke was pushed up behind the two strikers. We had to keep the def mid on.

from what i saw i thought toussaint totally changed our attack and game for the better
A supported the addition of a second striker but the players who came off didn't deserve that I feel. It's also worth noting that Glen disappeared even though he had more support. I thought it was a real poor performance on Maturana's part.

It have trouble in that dressing room and players don't have confidence in Maturana. I not even going to blame Wolfe, that is not even the man position. Then he turn round and bring on Kerry for a cobo, steups.

Toussaint to me is no goal scorer. He have lil skills and thing but that is it...that is ah broke man's Dwarika. Why they bring he on and not Jason Scotland is ah foolish decision on who ever call thee subs. Tha coach still have me thinking yes. ::) When KJ coming back alyuh any word on him?

But who deserved to come off then? You can't take off De Leon cause that would have exposed Yorke to more running and tackling. You can't take off Yorke, cause Yorke is class and could make things happen. So he woulda take off Daniel? The eventual goal scorer? Or Glen, your lone striker who set up both Theobald and Edwards with sitters?
U could question the personnel he brought on as both Baptiste and Scotland were options. but in the warm up games Wolfe and Toussaint were performing off the bench. Maybe he thought those other two were not as effective unless they started.

I not so sure it was a foul. In live play and in this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiGpRlXQh8M) replay (1:44 mins) it look like a decent tackle to me.
Jah i wid yuh on dat i rewatch it nuff time and see it as ah gift from the ref, clearly de Guatemalan woulda retain possesion....dat call remind me ah when ah playing indoor football in de winter and dey have dis cacahole rule bout no sliding tackle!
bottom line all he do was make ah slide tackle....yuh know what, i just re-watch it again, de ref wicked and bad to make dat call at dat stage ah de game (IMHO)

The SW played a good game, ball passing at a few points were a bit slippery but i was happy to see dat dey put on a better performance than dat dreadful Eng vs TT match in June.
Ah doh know why de coach pull out Edwards and Theobald for, but ah feel is some vindicative thing as usual, he mus be get a call from Jack. Anyway, we need to see some more professional players on Wed against de US since Yorke won't be playing. No more experimenting at this stage until we get enough points to sit comfortably and qualify convincingly in the next rounds.
dat late goal by Guatemala should not have happened but saywha, ;D, hopefully we go learn from it and don't lapse at no time in the game on Wed.

Still dont understand how peop;le was gainst Yorkin comin back from retirement yes..At his age he is still one of our best players....and we had that game in we hands but let it slip away...with Avery John not playing wednesday, curious to see Maturana defensive selection on wednesday..
