More cash at stake in La Brea football

ONE OF the top minor leagues the Alutrint-sponsored La Brea Community Football League kicked off yesterday with 11 teams challenging defending champions PAL United at the Point D’or Recreation Ground.
The occasion got underway with a march-past parade and concluded with a feature clash between Alutrint All Stars, coached by former national captain Anthony Rougier, and Club Sando.
Both teams are also competing in the Southern Football Association (SFA) and the clash marked their first meeting.
PAL United is a combination of two villages in the deep south— Paryland and Lotten, whose merger proved worth the while last year.
With the win the combined villages earned $10,000 cash prizes for the league but could not stop Vance River Ball Stars from securing the top award in the Knock-Out.
Newsday understands that there will be an increase in the prize money for the Knock-Out tournament which is being sponsored by Lake Asphalt.
Last year’s winners of the knock-out received $4,000 while the runners-up got $2,000. Secretary of the league, former national midfielder Larry Joseph said he is hopeful they will receive the increase.
However Alutrint’s prize structure for the league remains unchanged. The top team will collect $10,000 with second, third and fourth receiving $7,000, $5,000 and $2,000 respectively.
Four new teams will also participate in the competition. They are Bone Head Ballers from Gonzales/Guapo, Rousillac Full Clips, Conquerors FC which represents the Pentecostal Church in La Brea and Pele Pele.
