Andrews should be a motivator for the team. I am not sure if he is any good on the field at this level still because of that injury.

But he should be involved with the T&T team, a preacher, motivator, he can lift the team in many ways.

"John McGlynn was a happy man at full time with another Fife Derby victory under his belt and an “unbelievable” performance from ‘trialist’ Marvin Andrews along with Mark Campbell at the back, and a confidence boosting goal from Graham Weir, some of the positive points taken from the game."
"The big talking point prior to the match was the inclusion of Marvin Andrews in the Rovers starting line-up for the first time in over a year as a trialist. Not that you would have noticed had you not known, because the big man played as if he had never been away. His performance (and that of defensive partner Mark Campbell) was a major contribution to this victory.

A baller who played at Raith briefly - during Marvin's first stint at Raith - shared a story about going to the grocery (or some place similar) wid Dog, and all Dog buying iz ah set ah bananas and milk.

De baller: dahis all yuh eating/getting? ... Marvin: dahis all I need; I good.

Baller say Marvin was STRONG ... both physically and in belief/self-belief. Yuh could tell it was a pleasant memory, as the player (now retired) reflected.

De baller who was also at Hibs briefly during Latas' time ... jumped from a brief mention of Latas (said de stuff everyone who has seen him up close says about his technical ability), to the memory above.

Marvin: de fella ah talking bout is ah French-speaking fella from a lil island off de coast of Africa. Striker, later converted to a back elsewhere. :beermug:

Elgin City sign Marvin Andrews
By Craig Christie (The Northern Scot)

FORMER Rangers defender Marvin Andrews has completed his move to Elgin City on a one-year deal.

City boss Barry Wilson revealed how the 38-year-old agreed to sign a contract with the club after a successful three-match trial.

“It’s great news, having seen what he can bring to the team and the club,” Barry said. “The reaction that we’ve had from the fans and the players as well has been great.”

Andrews, who was capped 101 times by Trinidad and Tobago, had been reluctant to commit his future to Elgin due to the amount of travel involved from his Kirkcaldy base.

However, he said he had been won over by the Moray club and its supporters during his three trial games.

“I’m coming to the end of my career but I’m still enjoying playing on a Saturday,” Marvin told the Northern Scot. “I’m just so happy that Barry has given me the opportunity to be here and show what I’m still capable of at the age of 38.

“It’s a very, very nice club with great supporters, and the team plays very attractive football.”

Andrews helped City beat East Fife and Clyde in their first two home games of their League 2 season, winning man of the match awards in both 1-0 successes.

He also scored in the 2-1 away defeat at East Stirling.

“Two awards and scoring a goal means I couldn’t have had a better three trial games. I hope I’ve impressed the manager.”

Marvin Andrews moves on from Elgin City
The Northern Scot

FORMER Rangers defender Marvin Andrews has parted company with Elgin City.

Manager Jim Weir revealed the 101-times capped Trinidad and Tobago international has been released from his contract.

Andrews (39) joined Elgin in August as a favour to previous boss Barry Wilson, and inspired them to two home wins during a three-match trial period before penning a deal until the end of the season.

However, Wilson’s departure from the Elgin hotseat and the arrival of Weir late in November has brought the experienced defender’s time in Moray to a premature end.

The Moray side, who ended a 12-game league run without victory with a 3-2 success at Montrose on Saturday, have brought in teenage St Johnstone loan duo Ally Gilchrist and Craig Thomson.

Weir revealed Andrews' departure from City after a spell lasting 17 games.

"Marvin came in as part of an agreement with Barry and was totally honest with us about that," he said. "I work a different way and it just meant that for me to improve things I was going to find it difficult working with the situation the way it was.

"Both parties agreed to part company in an amicable fashion, so I’m delighted with that."

City’s run without a league win, which saw them gain just 5 league points from a possible 36 and plunge to the bottom of the league, was ended by a solid display in Angus.

A Dennis Wyness strike and an own goal gave Elgin a two-goal cushion at the break, though they should have been further ahead. Montrose pulled one back and threatened to level before sub Craig Gunn struck late on, with a second home goal in stoppage time failing to deny City a long awaited success.

Montrose become Marvin Andrews' 14th club
BBC Sport

Former Trinidad and Tobago defender Marvin Andrews has made Montrose his 14th club.

The 39-year-old has signed at Links Park until the end of the season after leaving Scottish League Two rivals Elgin City.

Andrews, capped 101 times for his country, made 14 appearances for City this season, scoring twice, for the side sitting bottom of the table.

Montrose lie five points above the Black and Whites in eighth.

But Elgin, who appointed Jim Weir as manager in November after Barry Wilson's resignation, have two games in hand.

Andrews had not played for Elgin since 6 December and made his debut for his new club in Saturday's 2-2 draw away to leaders Arbroath.

He first came to Scotland in 1997 to join Raith Rovers - to whom he has returned twice - after playing for ECM Motown, San Juan Jabloteh and Malta Carib Alcons in his homeland.

Andrews went on to play for Livingston, Rangers, Hamilton Academical, Queen of the South, Wrexham, Kirkintilloch Rob Roy and Albion Rovers before spending last season with Forfar Athletic in League One.

Prayers answered for Marvin Andrews
By Neil Robertson (The Courier)

Nearly 10 years to the day that he helped Rangers pip Celtic to the SPL title on “Helicopter Sunday”, Marvin Andrews was key as Montrose held on to their place in League Two by beating another Rangers, this time from Brora.

The big centre-half was immense throughout the incredibly high-pressure game and also scored the vital second goal that drew the Gable Endies level on aggregate.

The deeply-religious former Trinidad and Tobago international admitted he prayed for help from above on the morning of the game, although unlike a decade ago, he was not wearing one of his famous “Believe” T-shirts.

He said: “It is next Friday, the 22nd which is the 10-year anniversary.

“And a week before, this has come and happened for me.

“I saw an interview with (former Rangers team-mate) Alex Rae in the papers where he is saying Marvin believed but that he didn’t believe.

“It was just so amazing and that is why I am still playing football at 39.

“You can’t just sit in the house. You can’t miss an opportunity like this. I am very happy to be part of it.

“I believed this morning, I prayed to God this morning and he delivered once again for me.

“I cannot thank God enough for what he has done for me and the entire Montrose club and fans.

“I didn’t have a Believe T-shirt this time as football has changed and you can’t do that sort of stuff anymore!

“So I left it in the house and just encouraged the guys to let them know that these sorts of opportunities only come along once in a lifetime.

“I am so happy to be part of this. When I came to Montrose Football Club, I was hoping to just help keep them in the league.

“But I never thought I would be part of this dramatic play-off . . . it’s just amazing.”

“Dramatic” is certainly the right word to describe this match.

The stakes were incredibly high for Montrose who went into the game trailing 1-0 after last week’s first leg in the Highlands.

If they failed to triumph on Saturday, then the Angus side would have been consigned to the Highland League next season with the very future of the club thrown into doubt.

Montrose took the lead in the 37th minute after Brora keeper Joe Malin saved a Ross Campbell shot but could only palm it towards Scott Johnston who gleefully rifled the ball home from eight yards.

However, just two minutes after the restart, Brora scored when Colin Maclean headed past Stuart McKenzie in the Montrose goal to put the Highlanders back ahead in the tie.

However, moments later, Brora skipper Steven Mackay, who had been booked in the first half, made a reckless, mistimed challenge on Graham Webster and was shown a second yellow followed by red by referee John McKendrick.

Montrose piled on the pressure against the 10 men but were becoming frustrated before Andrews came to the rescue in the 76th minute.

Andrew Steeves fired in a corner from the Montrose right and the big centre-half rose majestically to bullet a header past Malin from close range to draw the home side level on aggregate.

Just a minute later, Gable Endies skipper Garry Wood sent the home fans wild when he hit a wonder strike from more than 30 yards into the top corner of Malin’s net to give his side the lead in the tie.

That third goal knocked the stuffing out of Brora and the final whistle was greeted with unbridled joy among the home fans with hundreds racing onto the pitch. At one point, Andrews was even hoisted high by some supporters in front of the TV cameras.

The player admitted that before he scored, he had started to have doubts it just might not be Montrose’s day.

He said: “It was looking very difficult for us.

“It wasn’t the best of starts for us in the second half. We conceded a very cheap goal out of nothing to let them equalise.

“As a defender, I was really disappointed with the goal we lost and the manner in which we conceded it as well.

“That put us under pressure but then they got a man sent off.

“We were bombarding their goal and you are thinking it is going to be one of those games.

“Then a great corner came in and that changed everything.

“Everyone knows Marvin Andrews and when that ball is coming, I have been brought up to win it at all costs.

“That is my strong point and it is what I do as a defender.

“I have done it all of my career.

“This is why you play football. What happened today is why people support football because the game turned on its head in just two minutes.

“It was just amazing but I have to give great credit to Brora.

“They put a shift in and really showed that they wanted to get into the SPFL.”

Andrews thrilled with Liverpool victory.
T&T Newsday Reports.

MARVIN ANDREWS, the former Trinidad and Tobago footballer, was thrilled to play an instrumental role in Liverpool’s triumph, by a 3-1 margin over the Caribbean All Stars, in Sunday’s final of the Tobago Legends Football Challenge at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet.

“An amazing feeling,” was how the 39-year-old Andrews described his participation at the weekend event. “As a young boy growing up, I watched Liverpool play in the English Premier League, and play in a Cup Final against Everton (with) John Barnes and Ian Rush.

“I always had a place in my heart for Liverpool FC and I always said in an interview many years ago, that I would play for Liverpool one day. I never know it came up in this tournament,” added Andrews, who is more commonly known as “Dog”. “I’m really grateful.”

Andrews was a late addition to the team, and he admitted, “I actually left my house coming to support Dennis (Lawrence etc) and the Caribbean All Stars team and I got a text message from one of the organisers (which) said ‘Marv, can you play? Liverpool (are) short at this moment in time. Will you fill in and play?’

“I said ‘yes, I’ll take up that opportunity because I’m still fit and active’. I took that opportunity and it turned out to be really well for me. So I’m very grateful to God for that.”

Andrews has been living and playing in Scotland since 1997, when he left Malta Carib Alcons to play with Raith Rovers. He also had stints at a number of clubs, including Livingston and Rangers.

Questioned about how things are with his career in Scotland, he responded, “really, really well. I play with Elgin City for the first half of the season and then I left in January and went to Montrose.”

Trinidad and Tobago football has been rocked by the recent scandal involving former football football administrative honcho Jack Warner.

Andrews noted, “I just see what is in the media, just like everybody else. I cannot make any assessment or any judgement on anything until the final verdict has been made. At this moment is just speculation, is just loads of accusation.

The muscular-built central defender continued, “as I always tell people, hopefully the truth will come out one day and we can get everything resolved. But my biggest concern is not only with the Warner issue but for the young people of Trinidad and Tobago who are aspiring to be professional footballers and help our country to qualify for a second World Cup. And that is my greatest fear at this moment in time.”

Commenting on the on-field issues, Andrews said, “it’s just a pyramid effect. Once there is problems with the TTFA, once there is problems at the higher (ranks), it will affect the national team, it will affect the players.

“It will be difficult for many of the players but hopefully it can build character in them and let them show what they can do and make people see that its not only when things are going well, but in difficult times we can still stand up for our country and go and give a fight in every game,” he ended..

The club is pleased to announce that Marvin Andrews and Anthony Higgins have joined the first team squad, after both men agreed amateur terms with The Bully Wee.

Their arrival comes ahead of expected loan moves in the opposite direction in the near future.

Andrews needs little introduction, having featured in the Scottish game for nearly 20 years. Throughout that time, he featured for several clubs, most notably Raith Rovers, Livingston and Rangers. The big centre half also collected a superb 101 caps for his country, Trinidad and Tobago.

Higgins, 19, is at the opposite end of his career and recently left Cowdenbeath. The forward - younger brother of new team-mate Sean - has also been on the books at Alloa and St. Johnstone and will be hoping to grab any first team opportunities that come his way.

Clyde manager Barry Ferguson spoke to the official website about the squad developments:-

"I know Marvin well and I also played with him. He's been training with us for a few weeks now and his fitness levels are good. He will provide more backup and more experience in the centre half position; I like to have at least four players in that position in my squad. He isn't going to cost the club anything and he's a fantastic person to have in the dressing room - I don't think anyone that's played with him would disagree with that.

"Anthony was with us during pre-season and I liked him straight away. He then had a trial with an SPL club, but the move fell through, so he's been back with us recently. He's raw but I can see something in him and he's also willing to learn. He's a completely different type of player to Sean and there's no way he is here just because of his brother, he's spent a lot of time training with us and I can see a lot of potential in him.

"We are close to sending one or two players out on loan in the near future so, with a small squad, it was also important that we added some extra cover and options."

Marvin is the man
Cumbernauld News

Marvin Andrews may have only signed on for Clyde on an amateur basis, but his acquisition paid an immediate dividend at Elgin on Saturday.

Boss Barry Ferguson handed his former Rangers team-mate a debut for the the Bully Wee and was rewarded with a vital goal from the veteran defender.

Andrews grabbed a vital strike to cancel out an early opener from the Borough Briggs side and ensure that Clyde returned from the Highlands with an important point.

Barry Ferguson made three changes to the team following the draw with Berwick the previous week.

As well as Andrews, starting slots also went to Mark McLaughlin and Scott Ferguson with Michael Bolochoweckyj, David Marsh and Archie Campbell the three to miss out.

Elgin made the better start and took the lead after 13 minutes when Daryl McHardy headed home from a corner by Daniel Moore.

Clyde rallied and Scott Ferguson had a ‘goal’ disallowed before the visitors drew level in 28 minutes, Andrews scrambling the ball home after his header was blocked.

Sean Higgins missed an opening to give Clyde a half-time advantage while after the break Elgin looked more dangerous.

In the closing stages both ’keepers had to make saves but there was no further scoring.

The draw means Clyde, after three wins in a row, have now gone three games without a victory and sixth in the table, but just three points behind leaders Annan.

The Black and Whites probably had the better of the second half overall, but both ‘keepers were forced into action late in the game to ensure a final score of 1-1.

Clyde will face a quickfire return to the Highlands later this month after the draw for the second round handed them a trip to face Highland League leaders Formartine United.

Doors to Raith’s Hall of Fame open for big Marv
fifetoday.co.uk

He’s one of the most recognisable and colourful characters to have donned the shirt of Raith Rovers and now Marvin Andrews has been added to the club’s list of legends in the Hall of Fame.

The popular defender, who had three different spells at Stark’s Park, is the first of this year’s inductees to be voted for by the fans via the Hall of Fame email address raithinductee@gmail.com.

Speaking to the Press, Marvin, who has lived in Kirkcaldy since first arriving in 1997, says he is still pinching himself at the news.

“It’s a good feeling to be nominated and to join all the great players of the past,” he said. “It’s part of the club’s history and it’s a pleasure to be named.”

Marvin’s first spell at the club came in when he was signed in 1998 by Jimmy Nicholl.

“I came over in 1997 and signed my first contract in February 1998 and ever since then Rovers have been great with me and will always have a special place in my heart,” he said. “They took a chance on me by bringing me over from Trinidad and Tobago and gave me the platform to show what I can do and helped to put me on the road to go to achieve all that I have in the game. I can’t thank them enough and I can’t thank God enough.

“For a foreigner to come over to Scotland and for the fans to take to me they way they have and nominate me is brilliant.”

John Greer, of the organising committee, says Marvin’s induction is thoroughly merited. “He has the record for being the most capped player ever to play for the Rovers having played over 100 time for Trinidad and Tobago,” he said. “When he came back for his second spell in 2006, Gordon Brown was instrumental in getting him to sign as part of the ‘Reclaim The Rovers’ campaign.

“He then came back for a third spell under John McGlynn and played a huge part in getting the club back to the First Division in 2009.”

For Marvin, who played 145 times for the club and scored 14 goals, that title win is one of his happiest memories.

“I was just coming back from a knee injury and John McGlynn asked me to come back for the last 11 games of the season and help get the club across the finish line and get back to the First Division.

“We managed it and to get a medal and the trophy was a great achievement.

“I remember the game against Arbroath. It was absolutely pouring with rain. I think if we hadn’t been getting the trophy that day they would have called it off – I went for a diving header and ended up coming up smiling with a face full of mud!

“I’ve got some great memories and I thank God every day for bringing me to Kirkcaldy and to Raith Rovers. I’m truly blessed to have played for them.”

The 40-year-old currently finds himself without a club and is busy starting up a new health and wellbeing business but “if a club does come in for me I’m ready. I don’t want to hang my boots up just yet”.

Now he is looking forward to the sold-out Hall of Fame night on November 7 and says he expects it to be “emotional”.

“I’ll be trying hard not to shed any tears,” he said. “It’s a great honour and I’m so grateful.”
Title: Marvin Andrews talks football, faith, Fernando, car karaoke and Rangers

Marvin Andrews talks football, faith, Fernando, car karaoke and the 'greatness' of Rangers
By Christopher Jack (The Evening Times)

MARVIN Andrews is still believing. His faith is shared with friends and strangers, his messages as inspiring in football as they are away from the game.

With his career on the park seemingly drawing to a close, he is awaiting guidance as the next phase of his life begins at 40.

He has achieved the ambition that he set out to in Trinidad and Tobago during his childhood, but further targets have yet to be defined.

Andrews is one of the great characters of Scottish football and is fondly remembered from the multitude of stops he has made across our game. His impact today remains profound, his inner strength helping others as well as shaping his own life.

He has turned out for eleven different clubs here, going from the Champions League with Rangers to the Junior ranks during a spell with Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. There has been interest this season in his services from outwith the professional setup but all have been politely declined so far.

If League Two Clyde proves to be his last club and the phone doesn’t ring, Andrews will be able to retire content.

“It was always my dream to play until I was 40 years of age,” he told SportTimes. “That was the drive for me.

“Yes, I had a lot of obstacles in the way, obviously my knee was the biggest news in Scottish football when I had doctors telling me that I would never play again. Playing for Clyde last season, I achieved that goal.

“I still have that flame in me that I could do a job for someone, even though I will be 41 in December.

“Football is everything I knew growing up. I am grateful to God and thankful that he has blessed me in unbelievable ways in the things that I have achieved.”

Andrews may not be appearing at an SPFL ground near you these days but the defender still pulls on his boots. He continues to train to keep himself fit and he plays in charity matches alongside a host of former Rangers stars.

He has business interests and is always welcomed back to Ibrox by the fans who took him to their hearts. For the man from San Juan, Kirkcaldy remains home but Scottish football may have seen the last of him.

“People still tell me I could make a good coach because of the type of guy that I am,” Andrews said.

“I don’t want to do it because people want me to do it, I want to do it because I have the desire to do it.

“I will not do something if I don’t want to do it. I never saw myself as a manager.”

Having overcome adversity to achieve success on the park and live the dream for club and country, Andrews will not look back and wonder what might have been.

His story is a remarkable one and he won’t write the next chapters by himself as he seeks inspiration. He knows only too well that anything is possible in the future.

“I am still praying and asking God for direction in the next stage of my life,” Andrews said.

“At this present time, the future for Marvin Andrews is bright. I can definitely tell you that.

“When you walk with God, he can direct you anywhere at any time.

“One of my biggest fears is doing something that God did not create me to do. I don’t want to be involved in something that is not God’s plan for my life.”

A career that took Andrews to the top of Scottish football, and even to a World Cup, will end with no regrets.

His attitude and raw, uncompromising approach made him an integral part of many sides, while his bubbly persona endeared him to supporters. It is that quality that makes him a fan favourite even today.

That connection is enhanced through his social media activity, with his Twitter account a mixture of inspirational messages and self-recorded singing sessions in his car as he entertains his 21,000 followers with a wide-ranging repertoire.

“I am a cheery guy, I like to laugh and have fun and enjoy life,” Andrews said.

“Anyone who knows Marvin Andrews will tell you I am always laughing.

“One day I thought I would sing a song and put it on Twitter, just for a laugh. I never thought I would get this response. It is unbelievable.

“I am not a singer, but I am putting a smile on somebody’s face. They might be in a bad place, they might be going through a difficult time in their life.

“If I can cheer them up, my job is done. It makes me laugh when people comment on it.

“Even walking along the street people shout ‘Marv, what are you singing today?’”

His renditions of ‘Twist and Shout’ and ‘Three Little Birds’ show the Trinidadian at his jocular, grinning best but Andrews is not just a social media entertainer.

His faith continues to shape his life but he is not the only beneficiary. He is approached by strangers in need and makes himself available to offer guidance where possible.

Even those that do not know Andrews know of him, and feel that they can trust him.

“I was speaking to a guy on Facebook who told me he found his mum dead in his room and he was finding it hard to recover,” he said.

“He asked for help and he believed that God would help him. I chatted to him as best I could and asked him if he goes to church.

“He told me he had a Bible and I tried to give him direction to let him know that God could help him in the situation he was facing.

“He is a young boy who lost his mum and it was very difficult for him. I get different requests from people from all walks of life because they know the faith that I have.”

It is that conviction in his beliefs that gives Andrews hope for a friend and former team-mate. A church engagement in Northern Ireland meant he was unable to attend a tribute evening for Fernando Ricksen in Glasgow recently, but Andrews was there in spirit.

Ricksen’s fight against Motor Neurone Disease is as inspiring as it is tragic. Like many of the Dutchman’s former colleagues, Andrews regularly checks on his progress and refuses to give up hope.

“To see Fernando with a disease that has made him the complete opposite of what he was is really heart breaking and very tough,” he said.

“I can talk to him, he will want to talk to me, but he just can’t. I try to see how he is doing through other people.

“It doesn’t matter what mistakes you have made in life, nobody wants to see someone in such a state. I can only pray and hope that one day he can recover.

“I sent a video message to him and I said that God can make him well. I believe it with all my heart. God can heal Fernando and that is the message that I send to him.”

It was alongside Ricksen that Andrews experienced one of the most remarkable days of his career. It was May 22, 2005. It was Helicopter Sunday.

The picture of Andrews on his knees, pointing to the heavens encapsulates not just his achievement but that of Rangers during a memorable campaign. He had defied doctors, Alex McLeish’s side had overcome the odds.

“The two things people always say to me are ‘how is your knee?’ and ‘keep believing,’” he smiled.

“I still get tingles when I think of what a great year it was. Scottish football will probably never see anything like it again. Generations of fans will talk about Helicopter Sunday.

“It was fascinating the way it happened with my knee, disproving the medics, the games. You could make a movie from it.

“I still pinch myself and try to get my head round it. How did it all happen? It is a miracle and I thank God for it.”

His efforts that season and his famous message to the supporters earned Andrews a unique place in the affections of the Ibrox crowd.

The defender would spend just two years in Light Blue before he returned to Raith Rovers, the club where he began his adventure on these shores.

He may have left Rangers, but Rangers have never left Andrews. The passing of time, and subsequent trials and tribulations, have only increased his admiration for the club.

“A great person is not known by where they are, but what they have come through to get where they are,” Andrews said.

“That is how greatness is measured. What Rangers has come through to be where they are today is magnificent and it shows the greatness of the club. You just have to applaud it.

“It shows the greatness of the fans, the club as a whole. As long as these fans are alive, Rangers will never die.

“For me, that is what greatness is. Yes, you can win a lot of trophies.

“But greatness is judged when you are going through a difficult time and it is how you respond to that. That is what makes Rangers absolutely amazing.”

Rangers cult hero Marvin Andrews vows to exorcise haunted house that’s driven out five nannies in a year
By Christine Lavelle (Scottish Sun)

RANGERS cult hero Marvin Andrews plans to exorcise a haunted house five nannies fled in a year.

The Christian faith healer intends to rid it of its spook by praying and bible readings with Pastor Joe Nwokoye, 57.

They believe the ghostly goings-on — including glasses smashing, furniture moving and strange noises — could be down to a “tormented” soul lingering in the family home in Jeburgh, Roxburghshire.

Andrews, who made 53 appearances for the Ibrox side from 2004-06, said: “We will go and help when the opportunity arises.

“There are different types of spirits, but in my experience anything problematic is usually linked to Satan.

“It’s the devil you are dealing with. In this case the spirit is obstructive, so it is a problem.”

We told this week how the owners have offered a £50,000 salary for a live-in nanny to take care of their children aged five and seven.

They’ve had hundreds of applicants willing to spend up to four nights a week alone at the property after posting an ad on childcare.co.uk.

Pastor Nwokoye, who is based at Zion Praise Centre International in Kirkcald with Trinidad-born Marvin, said: “It’s common for me as a minister to go to people’s houses where they have reported seeing things moving, or a lamp turning itself on when no one was there.

“Marvin is my assistant and he goes with me to the ones in this country. Our service is free of charge.

“We go to the house and pray and read passages from the bible.

“That’s it — the spirit is gone, kicked out. We also anoint the house with holy oil.

“The length of time depends on each spirit. we just pray for as long as it takes to cast the spirit away.

“I think we’d only need about 60 minutes at this place in Jedburgh.”

He added that he and Marvin, have attended numerous “haunted” properties across Scotland to clear them of unwanted spirits.

And he told how he travels the world curing people thought to be possessed by demons.

Andrews, 41, added: “It is all about seeing people happy. Everyone deserves to be happy in their bodies and in their home.”

Ex-Rangers star Marvin Andrews booked out for 18 MONTHS to perform weddings for footie fans
By Christine Lavelle (The Scottish Sun)

BIBLE-bashing former Rangers star Marvin Andrews has been inundated with requests to perform weddings for footie fans.

Marvin, 41, is said to be booked up 18 months in advance as Gers supporters want him as the minister for their big day.

Pastor Joe Nwokoye, who works with the ex-player at the Zion Praise Centre in Kirkcaldy, Fife, said: “Marvin has done so many weddings – it’s countless the number he has done.

“He is booked up completely until after next year, he’s very popular.

“It’s especially Rangers fans because they want him to wed them and join them in marriage.

“He’ll travel to wherever the wedding is booked, they don’t have to be done in our church. He’s regularly travelling around Scotland to various castles and hotels.

“Marvin is a hero with every Scottish club he played for – Raith Rovers, Livingston and Rangers – and he’s a bit of a local celebrity around Kirkcaldy.”

Marvin began worshipping at the Zion church over 18 years ago and was ordained as a minister in 2006.

Marv can’t wait to play
rangers.co.uk

CULT hero Marvin Andrews can’t wait to feature at Ibrox again next week as the Rangers Legends return.

Andrews, who spent two seasons at the club between 2004 and 2006, is always delighted to be a part of anything which supports the club’s charitable arm and feels he is in good shape to contribute plenty come next Saturday.

He told us: “It’s always a great feeling to go back to Ibrox and run out on that pitch again – and to pull on that shirt and play in front of the fans who love the club.”

“I’m always wanting to be a part of these things to help people out in these games.

“I still have that competitive spirit about me, and I still train and look after myself as well as doing a lot of running and keeping myself fit.

“After you play, you still want to be in a decent enough shape and I still play a lot of five-a-side with my mates in Kirkcaldy.

“I love playing football, I love keeping myself in shape and looking after myself. I’m looking forward to the game and it should be exciting and good fun.

Andrews also spoke of how much it means to him to be considered in the same bracket as the club’s other heroes of the past who he will meet up with next week.

He added: “It’s a great honour for me. When you play for Rangers and you learn the history and the names of the players who played for the club – the legends and the teams – it’s amazing to be in the same dressing room as them.

“Sometimes I need to pinch myself to see that it’s really happening. To be among these great legends that represented the most successful club in the world is really, really amazing, and I’m just so happy that I can be part of being in the same dressing room as some of them and be able to chat, laugh and joke with them too.

“I’m really humbled to be a part of that and be on the same pitch as them.”

Rangers hero Marvin Andrews jets 4,000 miles to perform wedding of international teammate Jason Scotland
By Christine Lavelle (The Scottish Sun)

RANGERS legend Marvin Andrews jetted 4,000 miles across the globe to perform the wedding of his international teammate Jason Scotland.

Player-turned-preacher Marvin, 42, flew to Trinidad this month to officiate Jason’s nuptials to new wife Debbi O’Rourke.

The happy couple tied the knot at Drew Manor on the Caribbean island – close to where both Marvin and Jason grew up in San Juan.

Delighted Marvin said: “It was a pleasure to do it for him because he is a close friend. It’s a special feeling to do your best friend’s wedding.

“Jason and I have known each other since we were teenagers and we played in the Trinidad team together.

“I know his mum well and we’re good friends in Scotland too – I often go and visit him and Debbi at their home in Glasgow.

“It was an honour to be asked. The ceremony itself was all close family and friends, it was really beautiful.”

Jason, 39, told how salon boss Debbi, 36, and her family were over to moon to have Marvin part of the big day on March 3 because as they are all diehard bluenoses.

He said: “With him there it felt comfortable – it was less nerve-wracking. The ceremony was really special.

“It wasn’t like a pastor seeing us for the first time. Marv is my close friend from home and in Scotland, I’ve known him all my life and played football with him, so it was an easy choice.

“My wife now is a Rangers supporter and her family support Rangers as well, so they were all keen for Marvin to do it.”

Marvin previously conducted the wedding of former Gers teammate Nacho Novo to his now ex-wife Donna Clark in 2015.

We told how the Christian faith healer, who preaches at Zion Praise Centre in Kirkcaldy, Fife, is booked up 18 months in advance with requests to perform weddings for footie fans.

The ex-Raith Rovers and Livingston defender began worshipping at the church nearly two decades ago and was ordained as a minister in 2006.

During his two years at Ibrox, the Trinidadian claimed he used self-healing to beat a serious knee injury in just a fortnight.

Marvin has 101 international caps and Jason, who played for St Johnstone, Dundee United and Hamilton, made 41 appearances for Trinidad and Tobago.

Andrews calls for support for T&T football.
By Joel Bailey (Newsday).

FORMER NATIONAL football team central defender Marvin “Dog” Andrews was back in Trinidad a few weeks ago on personal business.

However, he featured in a few training sessions with the Trinidad and Tobago squad, ahead of their recent tours of Guadeloupe and Martinique.

The 42-year-old took time recently to talk about his visit to Trinidad, his life as a religious minister in Scotland and the future of T&T football.

JOEL BAILEY (JB): What was the purpose for your trip to Trinidad?

MARVIN ANDREWS (MA): Specifically, my reason for coming to Trinidad and Tobago was to wed (former T&T striker) Jason Scotland.

That was my main purpose. Obviously, with Dennis (Lawrence) being my good friend, an ex-teammate, the national coach of Trinidad and Tobago, I like keeping myself fit, even though I’ve retired two years ago. So I asked him if I could come along and have a bit of a training session with the boys, and I can put in my two cents when I can. I’m a Trinidadian and it’s always good to come back to see the future of Trinidad and Tobago (football). Hopefully I can inspire them in some way or form, so they can take something from me.

JB: Where do you think T&T needs to improve, to reach at a level like the 2006 World Cup team that you were a part of?

MA: Trinidad (and Tobago) football is not only on the field, with the players, it’s a collective thing. For this nation to move forward, everybody have to come together. One of the biggest problem in Trinidad and Tobago football today is finances. There are certain things Dennis Lawrence cannot do as a (coach) without finances. He can have all the knowledge he can, there are certain things he cannot progress with this team without finances. This is one of the things that Trinidad and Tobago needs. We have loads of different companies in this country, let’s put in an investment into football, into sports on a whole. We have shown so many times, in World Cups, in Championships, in Olympics, that we can compete with the best. But you need that support, when it comes to the finances. It’s not only when they come on the field, but off the field as well.

JB: T&T players playing in Europe, but in the lower divisions, what do you think needs to be done for TT players to get contract for top division teams in Europe?

MA: It all starts with the grassroots. Football has changed now, the game is faster, more people are playing the game. We need to develop the grassroots football of Trinidad and Tobago. We have been saying this for years, Trinidad and Tobago have abundance of talented players. But the problem is when that talent comes up, the support is not there. Either they don’t have the (money) to come training every day or they’re struggling to eat or have food. We need to develop a structure where we can help our young players develop and grow into these world-class players. I think what we need to do is develop Trinidad and Tobago football, starting with the professional league here. Let’s support the boys, let’s put the monies in because we will reap the rewards later on, not only for the national teams but for the entire country. And this is what I think is needed to be done.

JB: How are you enjoying life as a pastor?

MA: I’m an assistant pastor in my church, Zion Praise Centre in Scotland. I assist my minister, he’s an evangelist so he travels a lot. I try to keep things going while he travels. I enjoy it a lot. It’s very important, we all need God in our lives. Everybody might not believe that but we all need God at some point in our lives. I am just here to try to spread the good news, to let people know that God is there for them, He loves and cares for them. If you give the Lord Jesus Christ a chance, He can make all things possible for you. This is my purpose, and I’m still trying to find my divine purpose and calling in the ministry. Football has been my vehicle to get me to where I am at this present time. It’s only a matter of time to see where God leads me in this new calling.

JB: Some of your T&T teammates are involved in coaching, is this something you’re looking to get into?

MA: No, that’s not my calling, that’s not my desire. Dennis is one of my best friends and he has encouraged me so many times to get into coaching. But I don’t believe it’s for me. Even while in my playing days, I never desired to coach. I enjoy encouraging young people to go and fulfil their dreams in life, whatever (aspect) of sports. I do a lot of motivational speaking in Scotland at the moment, in schools, in universities and different arenas. So my desire is for youths. I want to see youths succeed, I want to let them know that they can fulfil their ultimate dreams and the purpose for why God has created them to be alive on this earth.

JB: What’s your take on the VAR system?

MA: Football is a spontaneous game. I think they’re trying to narrow it down to be too specific. Yes, I know a lot of money is in the game but football is made of human errors. Without human errors they wouldn’t be any goals, you wouldn’t have any mistakes. That is my take on it. Obviously it’s a new thing, hopefully it can help the game, but I think it should remain with the human standpoint.

JB: What is the highpoint of your career?

MA: My ultimate dream was to help Trinidad and Tobago qualify for their first-ever World Cup. And that dream (came) to past. I had that dream in 1989, we failed to qualify for the World Cup against America. I (sat) in my living room and I said ‘I want to be part of the team who will help take this country to its first-ever World Cup’. I happened 15-20 years later.

JB: For the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, what are your expectations?

MA: I’m supporting Argentina. I’m a (Lionel) Messi fan. I’m hoping Messi can do well, prove the world wrong and win a World Cup. I think there are a lot of good teams. The Germans can come really good this year (and) Spain. Hopefully it can be an exciting World Cup but I’m rooting for Argentina.

'Cult hero' Marvin Andrews pleased to play his part for the Rangers Legends line-up
By Christopher Jack (The Herald)

IF there was a Cult Hero XI at Ibrox, Marvin Andrews would be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

It is the Rangers Legends side that the former Light Blues defender turns out for these days. He is reluctant to use the term or put himself in that esteemed company, though.

Three years after playing his final professional game as Clyde faced Queen’s Park in a play-off tie at Hampden, Andrews is still regularly pulling on his boots. But there are no points at stake, no trophies to be won or medals collected.

Instead, he helps to raise money for those less fortunate, to raise awareness for good causes across the country, as new memories are made with star names from years gone by.

Andrews is a familiar face to a support that took him to their hearts during his short but successful Ibrox career. To this day, those same fans still turn out in their numbers to see former Gers heroes in action.

“One of my friends, Charlie Miller, is involved in these games a lot and his friend is the one that arranges the matches,” Andrews said.

“At the same time, they are involved in helping with food banks so that people can get a meal at night and there are a lot of charities and good causes that benefit.

“You get guys that have the chance to meet and play with players that they have only seen on TV and they are like ‘I can’t believe I am on the pitch with Marvin Andrews or Charlie Miller’. There are Celtic guys that play as well and it is all in good spirits and for a good cause, which is the most important thing.

“I enjoy every minute of it and I am pleased to give something back.

“I am a footballer, but if I can use my talent to help someone who is less fortunate or raise money for a good cause, then that is great.

“Everyone has a different walk through life and they may need help with food or clothes or housing, whatever the case may be. There are so many charities that benefit and I am always willing to play and to help.”

Andrews may only have spent two seasons at Rangers but his place in Ibrox folklore is forever enshrined.

It was he, of course, who kept believing as Alex McLeish’s side won the title in 2005 and the defender became as renowned for his faith as his football as he battled back from a knee injury to play his part in a memorable title triumph.

The 43-year-old is now a regular feature on squad lists and at supporters functions. He won’t overstate his place amongst the finest names to pull on the famous jersey, however.

“I would call myself more of a cult hero than a legend,” Andrews said.

“Some of the players that played here are incredible, the things that they achieved for Rangers Football Club, are incredible.

“ I don’t really see myself in the same category as these guys. Maybe I am a cult hero because of Helicopter Sunday. I can wear that tag.

“But when it comes to a legend, it takes great things and great achievements to be considered a legend at a club like Rangers.

“I only played here for two years but I know Helicopter Sunday will go down as a one of the great days for the club. I am so happy and so humbled to be part of that history.

“The word legend, you can’t just throw that around here. some people may think that I am, but I am just so humble and happy to have played for such a wonderful football club.

“And to have achieved great things with Rangers in terms of winning a couple of trophies and to give the fans one of the greatest days of their lives. I am happy with the cult hero status.”

A place in the Rangers Legends squad has given Andrews a chance to be reunited with former team-mates or make new friends.

He is a well kent face at these events now. Wherever and whenever, he is happy to play his part both on and off the park.

Andrews said: “You definitely get a few aches after them these days! You feel old very quickly.

“But it is a good ache and a good pain when you are part of it. when you are retired and you are not as active as you were when you are a professional, it takes you longer to recovery from them.

“I try to keep myself fit and I do a bit of running to make sure I am able to play in these games.

“I was at Cheltenham last week with Gordon Smith and we went to the racing before a charity game at night for the Injured Jockeys Fund. Me and Gordon took part in that. I love doing these things.

“It was to help jockeys that are no longer able to ride but they need a bit of help or assistance financially and I was delighted to be part of that. The main sponsors were 32Red and Unibet and they asked us to come down. We had a really good time and I always want to be available as often as I can. I want to play and take part.

“When you play these games, it is all good banter and a good laugh. I have never played with some of the players but I have heard about their great achievements with Rangers.

“So it is nice hear the stories from when they used to play and to be on the same pitch as them.

“It is all great fun. As a former player, you really miss that dressing room banter and that camaraderie.”

Marvin Andrews makes shock Rangers admission as he reveals his Ibrox leap of faith at 'meeting with God'
By Gabriel McKay (Scottish Daily Record)

Marvin Andrews has revealed he waived insurance while playing for Rangers, putting faith in God to keep him fit.

The centre-back joined the Gers in 2004 after leaving Livingston, and was named Players' Player of the Year in his first season.

That came despite a cruciate ligament injury suffered in March as a nail-biting title race entered its final stages.

Andrews famously refused to have surgery and instead played through the injury, putting his faith in God to heal him.

And the former Trinidad and Tobago international has revealed he did so without insurance, after being told to sign a waiver by the club.

He went on to play for another 10 years after leaving Ibrox in 2006, but had he required surgery he'd have had to foot the bill himself.

Andrews said on the Football Daft podcast : "Everybody had their opinion, people who damaged their ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) came out in the papers, they showed me ex-players, they even showed me Ian Durrant pictures when he damaged his knee at Aberdeen.

“All these ex-players whose careers were ended because of the same ACL.

“So, I tell them ‘no, God will heal my knee’.

“Then we had a big meeting at Murray Park, you had David Murray, all his staff, all the doctors, all the physios in the room - all of them on one side, and me and God sitting on the other side.

“So, me and God showed up in the meeting.

“They said to me ‘Marv, we respect your faith, we respect your belief in God, but we need to do what is best for Rangers Football Club. We just wanted to let you know that based on you rejecting our advice from the medical standpoint, we’d like to give you a disclaimer that you sign so that you take full responsibility if anything goes wrong with your knee from here on out’.

“So that if I damaged my knee or my knee collapsed in training or wherever, I cannot sue Rangers or cannot make the club pay for my decision.

“So, I signed the disclaimer, my faith believing that. And all that time, my knee was massive - the size of my knee was unbelievable.

“But the faith that I had in God, I said ‘no problem, I will trust God that God will look after me’.

“So, I signed the disclaimer, I took full responsibility, if anything happened to me, it’s my full responsibility.

“A lot of people don’t know - those times when I was playing for Rangers, I wasn’t under insurance from Rangers Football Club, my insurance was God. And a lot of people didn’t know that.”

Marvin Andrews: Defence is a good foundation
By Louise Shaw (rangers.co.uk)

MARVIN ANDREWS hopes Rangers’ strong defensive start to the season can give them a good foundation to build on this campaign.

It has been an impressive start for Steven Gerrard’s men who have conceded only three goals in their opening 12 league matches - with 14 clean sheets in 17 games across all competitions.

The former centre-half, who lifted a League and League Cup double while at Ibrox, says clean sheets can help build courage and confidence within the squad.

He told rangers.co.uk: “I think it is fantastic, you need a good defence if you want to go on and be successful. You need to have a good defence in any team and to have clean sheets is very important.

“As a former centre half myself I know it gives momentum, it builds courage and confidence when you have clean sheets.

“When playing with a team of Rangers stature the more clean sheets you have the greater chance you have of winning the game because of the type of attacking players Rangers have.

“You have to perform if you want to play and that is really good to have that competitive edge in the group.

No centre-half, no defender and no player can take their position for granted and that is a very good thing that Steven Gerrard has done.”

Andrews feels Rangers are now seeing the best of Connor Goldson, and is impressed with his partnership with Filip Helander.

He continued: “This is Connor’s third season and he has done really well. He knows what it means to play at the club now and it is really really good.

“It has maybe taken a bit of time to get into the groove and show what he is really capable of and I am sure that is why Steven Gerrard bought him in the first place because he knew this is what he can offer the club and what he can do for the team.

“You always need to have good partnerships whether that is in attacking, midfield or defence.

“It is very important and the two of them have developed a really good partnership.

“Helander is left-footed and Goldson is right-footed so it is really good that they can settle in with each other, they have good communication and it is showing.

When you don't lose goals and you play with the squad here you always believe that you can score. When teams come up against you and they realise that you are not losing goals and it is hard to score against you right away you have a little edge.

“It is very important and it is the foundation for moving forward.”
