Classic showdown in Super League
By Ian Prescott (Trinidad Express)

The 2008 bmobile National Super League is headed for a super finish with three teams-defending champions WASA FC, the Trinidad and Tobago National Under-20 squad, and Joe Public FC-all involved in a dash to the finish atop the standings.

WASA lead with 52 points, but can amass a maximum 55, while the T&T Under-20s (51 points) and Joe Public (48 pts) can each reach a maximum of 54. However, everything hinges on what happens when WASA play their final league match today against Joe Public. The teams meet in a showdown from 4 p.m. at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.

A WASA win today and it's all over as they will take the title. If they draw, the Under-20s can take the honours. But if Joe Public win, the title will be decided in Sunday's final round when the Eastern Lions play their remaining match against ALCOA Carenage United, while the Under-20s end with a tough game against Super League Big 4 chasers Angostura 1976 Phoenix.

Two days ago, both Joe Public and the National Under-20s kept alive their title hopes with hard-fought victories.

A pair of Christopher Sam goals (16th & 56th) gave Joe Public a 2-0 victory over Carenage United and the National Under-20s held off St Francois Nationals by a slender 2-1 margin.

Striker Trent Lougheed (41st) and Uriah Bentick (71st) had the national youths ahead with a two-goal cushion until Kareem Young (76th) netted for Carenage United to make the match interesting down the stretch.

Also last Sunday, the youngsters from the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) finally got a victory in their last match of the season, although it was by default. They were awarded a 3-0 triumph when Crab Connection failed to show up.

Later this week, on Thursday, Tobago's Phoenix and Carenage United meet at Chaguaramas to decide which of the two are likely to grab the final spot in the Big 4, which starts on November 26.

WASA, Joe Public and the National Under-20s have already qualified, while Phoenix are currently fourth with 41 points, two ahead of Carenage United.

Sunday's bmobile National Super League results

It would be intersting to see how the U20 does in Concacaf qualification.

Here is a team that has been together and playing against some decent teams day in and out.

if this works we may be on to something here!

good luck to the team and the staff!
