Man City agree a fee for Bridge

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/7807951.stm (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/7807951.stm)

Manchester City have agreed an undisclosed fee with Premier League rivals Chelsea for England defender Wayne Bridge.

City boss Mark Hughes confirmed the deal on Friday and it is thought the club could pay up to £12m for Bridge.

The 28-year-old left-back joined Chelsea from Southampton for £7m in July 2003.

But Bridge has seen his opportunities at Stamford Bridge reduced since Ashley Cole's arrival.

He signed a new four-year extension to his Chelsea contract in July 2008, but has become surplus to requirements since the arrival of Scolari, who has opted to use Juliano Belletti as deputy for Cole at left-back.

"If they have a good deal, no problem for me," said Scolari on Friday.

And speaking ahead of City's FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Hughes said: "My understanding is the clubs have agreed a fee.

"We need to speak to the boy and try to agree personal terms. If we can do that hopefully Wayne will be a Manchester City player, that's the aim.

"Wayne will probably travel to Manchester this evening and hopefully negotiations will go well and he can have a medical tomorrow."

Bridge is currently suffering an injury which will keep him out of Chelsea's FA Cup third-round match against Southend United on Saturday.

City's oil-rich Arab billionaires Sheikh Mansour and club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak are set to bankroll a January spending spree with the intention of lifting City clear of the relegation zone.

Bridge has made 142 appearances for Chelsea in over five years, as well as earning 32 international caps for England.

Well like our Neighbours we closed the deal on the 2 most highly rated Serbians  ;D

Welcome to The Champions of the World lads

Manchester United have secured two of their long-term targets after completing the signings of Serbian duo Zoran Tosic and Adem Ljajic from Partizan Belgrade.

United announced a couple of months ago that they had reached an agreement with Partizan for the duo, since when the Red Devils have been attempting to agree personal terms.

Rumours had suggested that Arsenal and Manchester City were ready to hijack the deal, which is reported to be worth an eventual £17million, as it was reported talks had collapsed.

However, the situation has now been resolved, leaving Tosic free to join the Old Trafford outfit next week, with Ljajic staying in Belgrade for the remainder of the season.

Despite being just 21, Tosic has already made 12 appearances for Serbia and is regarded as one of the best young wide players in Europe.

It is thought Ljajic, 17, will benefit from the stability of remaining with Partizan, with first-team opportunities at Old Trafford unlikely this term.

Surprise, surprise... Mido and Marlon King giving managers a headache.

Middlesbrough keen on swapping Mido for Marlon King (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jan/21/middlesbrough-hull-premier-league/print)

Both strikers have fallen out of favour at respective clubs

Middlesbrough are hoping to do a deal with Wigan Athletic to swap the out-of-favour Mido for Marlon King until at least the end of the season.

Providing everything goes to plan, the deal should be concluded by tomorrow afternoon and would involve King, exchanging Hull City – where he has been on loan from Wigan since last summer – for Teesside under a similar arrangement. Mido, meanwhile, would join forces with his fellow Egyptian Amr Zaki at the JJB Stadium, most probably on an initial loan.

The swap seems timely for all concerned. While Gareth Southgate's relationship with Mido is understood to have deteriorated to the point where there is little hope of reconciliation with the former Tottenham foward, King has not trained at Hull since being sent home in disgrace by Phil Brown last Saturday, following his outraged reaction to being named as a substitute in the defeat against Arsenal. The Hull manager, understandably, immediately banished him from the KC Stadium.

It is the latest misdemeanour from a player who has courted controversy several times in the past, and Brown has found him increasingly difficult to manage. Indeed it is not long ago that the former Watford, Gillingham and Barnet striker became embroiled in an ugly late-night altercation with the former Hull forward Dean Windass at a Scarborough casino where the team were supposed to be enjoying a "bonding" session. With incidents like that fresh in the memory, it is not a surprise that Brown is seeking to offload King, despite his five goals aiding Hull's impressive start to the season.

Meanwhile Southgate has had cause to bemoan Mido's weight, poor time-keeping and arguably disruptive dressing-room influence. The Egyptian has had a reputation for being a troublemaker in the past, and for all his talent, he has already played for six clubs at the relatively tender age of 25.

Complications regarding the deal still remain, with all parties understood to be unhappy with its impermanence. After having his fingers burnt by Mido, Southgate wants to borrow rather than buy King before determining on a permanent move but Wigan would prefer to conclude a formal transfer. Mido, too, is understood to want to sever his links with the Riverside rather than merely be farmed out to Steve Bruce's side.

Yet while negotiations may yet hit a dead end, the move is further down the line than previous mooted swaps involving Mido and Newcastle United's Alan Smith and then Aston Villa's Marlon Harewood which never progressed beyond first base.

Middlesbrough are also extremely close to completing the signing of Crystal Palace's Ben Watson for a fee of £2m, and the midfielder could make his debut in Saturday's FA Cup tie at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Palace rejected a £1m offer earlier this week, but agreed to an improved bid which will eventually be worth £2m for Watson, 23, who has been on Southgate's radar for some months, regarding the midfielder as the ball winner Boro have lacked since George Boateng and Lee Cattermole departed Teesside last summer for Hull and Wigan respectively.

City confirm de Jong capture
Wednesday 21 Jan 2009
http://www.4thegame.com/club/manchester-city-fc/news/229683/city_confirm_de_jong_capture.html

Manchester City have confirmed that they have completed the signing of Nigel de Jong from Hamburg for an undisclosed transfer fee.

The 24-year-old Netherlands international midfielder has penned a four-and-a-half year contract with Mark Hughes' side and will team up with former team-mate Vincent Kompany at Eastlands.

De Jong is City's second signing of the week following the capture of Craig Bellamy from West Ham United.

The midfielder is now back to full fitness after struggling with a knee injury he picked up while on international duty during the first half of the season.

Meanwhile, City's executive chairman Garry Cook has promised that there will be more new arrivals at the club this month, despite the failure to land AC Milan's Brazilian midfielder Kaka.

He said before the de Jong signing was confirmed: "We're very pleased with what we've done. Wayne Bridge has been a tremendous addition and we've finalised the deal for Craig Bellamy.

"These were players that were on Mark Hughes' target list 12 weeks ago. One of the first lists that we put in front of our owners was that list and we discussed the merits of bringing those players here because it will make us better.

"We've got some great players here and we're on a bit of a run with seven points from the last three league games so we want to continue that and adding strength to the squad is only going to enhance us.

"We've not been successful on all fronts and we've rejected an awful lot because the negotiating process again became ridiculous.

"Over the next four transfer windows we've got a clear list of players that we'd like to see at this football club.

"We clearly know what we're doing and I think that the fans are going to be excited."

Wigan Athletic striker Marlon King is undergoing a medical at the Riverside Stadium ahead of his proposed transfer to Middlesbrough.

Struggling Boro are hoping to boost their chances of Premier League survival with a loan deal for the 28-year-old, who had impressed on loan at Hull City this season before a bust-up with Tigers boss Phil Brown limit his first team chances.

A swap deal with Mido heading to Wigan has been mooted, but the King deal is not thought to be dependent on Boro's Egyptian striker making the switch to the JJB Stadium.

A perfect solution for both clubs, Drogba to City. Can't see City allowing Robinho to leave though.

Drogba is next on City's wishlist, say reports (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jan/22/drogba-manchester-city-chelsea-robinho)

Robinho could move to Stamford Bridge in swap deal
Hughes thought to be keen on Chelsea striker

Manchester City are keen to sign Chelsea's Didier Drogba, according to reports, and Chelsea's interest in Robinho could mean a swap deal is on the cards.

Two British newspapers today report that Mark Hughes has turned his attentions to Drogba following the collapse of the club's move for Milan's Kaka. The Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari is thought to be prepared to let players go at the right price and Drogba has not been in his last two matchday squads.

Robinho's future remains somewhat clouded following his recent fallout with Hughes and Chelsea, who missed out to Manchester City when the player moved from Real Madrid in the summer, are reported to be interested in a swap deal for the Brazillian.

Fulham's manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Jimmy Bullard has joind Hull after agreeing personal terms. The midfielder, who underwent a medical today , is moving for a fee believed to be £5m.

The 30-year-old opted for the move once negotiations over a new contract at Fulham broke down due to his wage demands and the length of the deal.

"It's disappointing to lose Jimmy," Hodgson said. "We said all along that we'd like to keep all of our players but the possibility of Jimmy leaving has been there all the time. He's been seeking the type of contract we couldn't give him.

"I congratulate Hull and Jimmy on getting the contract he wanted. There's still some paperwork to be completed. But my understanding is Jimmy has agreed a contract which just needs finalising.

"It wasn't just wage demands prompting Jimmy to go, but the length of contract too. He's 31 this year and we didn't feel able to provide him with the contract he wanted. The transfer fee that has been negotiated is suitable for a player of his age. I thank Jimmy for the year of work he did under me."

Aston Villa have confirmed they have agreed a £3.5m fee with Wigan Athletic for Emile Heskey, who is due to arrive at the Midlands club's training ground today to discuss personal terms. They envisage no problems subject to the 31-year-old forward passing a medical.

The deal would mean Heskey once again linking up with Martin O'Neill, under whom he made his name at Leicester City. Villa's manager has always been grateful to Heskey, out of contract at Wigan this summer, for signing a new deal shortly before moving to Liverpool in March 2000.

"It would be very difficult not to support someone who was brilliant for you," O'Neill said. "He was a young kid at Leicester and was fantastic. We were desperately disappointed when he moved but he said he wanted to go and play with Michael Owen at Liverpool, but he did his part for Leicester.

"He signed a new contract and we eventually got £11m for him when he could easily have gone and played abroad for a year, because of his age and the rules at that time, and we wouldn't have got any money. He played fairly by Leicester."

On the down side for O'Neill, Villa's key defender Martin Laursen will be out of action for two months after undergoing surgery in his right knee, not the left one which has given him problems previously. His absence means Zat Knight and Carlos Cuéllar will be battling for a place in the back four alongside Curtis Davies.

Chimbonda set for Spurs return
SkySports.com

Sunderland full-back Pascal Chimbonda is set to move back to Tottenham, Sky Sports News understands.

The French full-back only moved to Wearside in July last summer, when Sunderland snapped him up along with fellow Spurs players Steed Maldbranque and Teemu Tainio.

However, it was not long before Chimbonda fell out with the then manger Roy Keane.

Following Keane's departure he was used by new boss Ricky Sbragia - but he clearly feels he needs strength in other areas and has sanctioned the sale.

The two clubs have agreed terms and Sky Sports News understands that Chimbonda is now set to have a medical in North London.

The move comes just hours after Sbragia condemned Spurs for their 'methods' in attempting to land Kenwyne Jones.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has made no secret of his desire to bolster his squad during the transfer window and the capture of Chimbonda will mark the arrival of another former player, following Jermain Defoe's switch back to White Hart Lane from Portsmouth.

Chimbonda secures Spurs return

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed the club have signed Pascal Chimbonda from Sunderland.

The French defender returns to White Hart Lane just six months after leaving North London for the Black Cats.

Chimbonda, who had grown unsettled in the North East, underwent a medical at Spurs on Monday before agreeing personal terms.

Thr 29-year-old will not, however, be available for Tottenham's Premier League match against Stoke City on Tuesday after he missed the registration deadline.

"I've signed him and he's coming here," Redknapp said.

"The deal should have been done in the morning but it's over-run the deadline for him to play against Stoke.

"It was done 15 minutes too late which was disappointing. Otherwise he would have been available."

Juventus eye Cole deal - Report

http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/9134962/Juventus-eye-Cole-deal---Report (http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/9134962/Juventus-eye-Cole-deal---Report)

Serie A giants Juventus have reportedly made an approach to West Ham to bring in-form striker Carlton Cole to Turin during the transfer window.

The former England Under-21 international has been in sparkling form for the Hammers of late after scoring five goals in six games.

He was linked with a move to Tottenham after Spurs boss Harry Redknapp missed out on a deal for Cole's former Hammers team-mate Craig Bellamy.

However, Sky Sports claim Cole is now wanted in Italy, with Juventus understood to have made an enquiry for the 25-year-old.

Juve coach Claudio Ranieri gave Cole his professional debut at Chelsea in 2002 and still appears to be a fan of the powerful front man.

Cole undertook loan spells at Wolves, Charlton and Aston Villa before leaving Chelsea on a permanent basis for West Ham in the summer of 2006.

During his time at Upton Park, Cole has scored 18 goals in 80 appearances and is a key part of Gianfranco Zola's plans.

Premier League grants extra time to complete deals
The Associated Press

LONDON: The English Premier League has extended the transfer deadline for clubs which can't complete the deals by Monday's deadline because of the heavy snowstorms in Britain.

The league say it will allow clubs on a case-by-case basis to complete transactions beyond Monday's 5 p.m. (1700 GMT) deadline due to the adverse weather conditions.

A league statement says clubs will have to prove that a deal has been agreed in principle and that the weather has prevented the deal being completed in time.

Youssouf Mulumbu
Where is he? - Paris St Germain
Who is he linked with? - West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Mowbray has made the Paris St Germain midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu his third signing of the January transfer window. The 22-year-old moves to The Hawthorns on loan until the end of the season - with a view to a permanent deal. The DR Congo international has been with PSG since 2004, signing his first professional contract with the club in November 2006. He has made 68 appearances for the side form the French capital and also featured in 23 matches for Amiens last term on a season-long loan at the Ligue Two side. Mowbray has said of Mulumbu: "He's a young player with potential, who won't instantly impact on our first team."

Olivier Dacourt
Where is he? - Internazionale
Who is he linked with? - Fulham

With just minutes of the January transfer window left, Fulham have completed the signing of Internazionale midfielder Olivier Dacourt on loan for the rest of the season. The 34-year-old has a wealth of Premier League experience having played for Everton and Leeds United before joining AS Roma and then Inter in the summer of 2006. He has made 44 appearances for the Serie A side but has struggled to earn a starting spot in Jose Mourinho's team this term. Meanwhile, Danny Murphy has signed a new one-year extension to his current contract. The former Liverpool midfielder will now remain at Craven Cottage until the summer of 2010.

Andrei Arshavin
Where is he? - Zenit St Petersburg
Who is he linked with? - Arsenal

Arsenal's bid to sign Andrei Arshavin appears to be close to succeeding, according to reports that suggest he has already passed a medical at the club, with terms having been agreed with Zenit St Petersburg. The Russian midfielder travelled to London on Sunday evening in anticipation of a move to the Emirates Stadium. However, reports claimed on Monday morning that the 27-year-old playmaker had begun the journey back to Russia after failing to agree personal terms over his long-running switch to Arsenal. That now appears to have not been the case.

Robbie Keane
Where is he? - Liverpool
Who is he linked with? - Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool have announced that they have reached agreement to sell Robbie Keane back to Tottenham Hotspur. A spokesperson from Anfield said: "Liverpool Football Club have reached agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the sale of Robbie Keane." The Republic of Ireland international has failed to establish himself as a regular starter at Liverpool following his 20million move from Spurs last summer. Keane was left out of the Reds squad for Sunday's 2-0 victory over Chelsea amid growing speculation of a return to the north London club. After the game, Reds boss Rafael Benitez suggested the striker was highly likely to remain at Anfield as he was an important part of his squad. However, reports claim Spurs have seen a bid for their former captain accepted by the Merseyside club and that Keane is on his way to the capital to discuss terms. Liverpool are thought to have been interested in signing Spurs winger Aaron Lennon as part of any transfer. But the deal for Keane is believed to be cash only and involve no others players swapping clubs. The 28-year-old has scored seven goals in 28 appearances since swapping White Hart Lane for Anfield back in August.

Joao Alves Jo
Where is he? - Manchester City
Who is he linked with? - Everton

Everton have ended their lengthy search for a new striker by completing the signing of Manchester City's Jo on loan. The Brazil international has joined the Toffees on loan until the end of the season. The 21-year-old forward was brought to the City of Manchester Stadium last summer from CSKA Moscow in an 18million deal. However, he has been allowed to move on after failing to impress City boss Mark Hughes. Jo has scored three times in 18 appearances in all competitions, but has started only six Premier League games for the Citizens.

Henri Camara
Where is he? - Wigan Athletic
Who is he linked with? - Stoke City

Stoke City have bolstered their strikeforce on the final day of the transfer window by snapping up striker Henri Camara on loan. The 31-year-old Senegal international has joined the Potters until the end of the season from Wigan Athletic. Camara will join four other Senegal stars - Abdoulaye Faye, Amady Faye, Ibrahima Sonko and Salif Diao - at the Britannia Stadium. The former Wolves, Celtic and Southampton forward has been a fringe player for the majority of his four-year spell with the Latics. He has started just three Premier League games for Steve Bruce's side this season and was loaned out to West Ham United during the last campaign.

Angelos Basinas
Where is he? - AEK Athens
Who is he linked with? - Portsmouth

Portsmouth have signed their second Greece international of the transfer window after landing midfielder Angelos Basinas. The 33-year-old follows fellow countryman Theofanis Gekas into Fratton Park after agreeing an 18-month contract with the south coast club. Pompey boss Tony Adams landed striker Gekas from Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday before setting his sights on Greece international captain Basinas. Basinas has joined from AEK Athens and will bring experience to the Pompey midfield after winning 97 international caps. The former Panathinaikos and Real Mallorca midfielder was also the skipper of the Greece side which won the European Championship in 2004. "He's exactly what we need in the situation we're in," executive chairman Peter Storrie told the club's official website. "He's a player that Tony (Adams) was keen to bring in. He desperately wanted to come here and we have the option to sign him for a further year after the 18 months." Meanwhile, Pompey have turned down a fresh approach - believed to be from Bolton Wanderers - for midfielder Sean Davis.

Tal Ben-Haim
Where is he? - Manchester City
Who is he linked with? - Sunderland

Sunderland have completed the loan signing of Manchester City's Israel international centre-back Tal Ben Haim. The 26-year-old has worked with Black Cats boss Ricky Sbragia at Bolton Wanderers, having moved to England in the summer of 2004 from Maccabi Tel Aviv. Ben Haim spent three years with the Trotters before heading to Chelsea in June 2007, but has was on the move within a year, linking up with the Citizens last summer. However, the stopper has struggled to make a first-team impact with City and has opted to head to the Stadium of Light for the next few months. Sbragia told his club's official website: "It's a position we have been short in, so I'm delighted that Tal has joined us. I know all about him from his days at Bolton. He's got a lot of top-flight experience and he will be a great addition to our squad."

Theofanis Gekas
Where is he? - Bayer Leverkusen
Who is he linked with? - Portsmouth

Portsmouth have strengthened their squad with the signing of Greece striker Theofanis Gekas on loan from German club Bayer Leverkusen. The 28-year-old moves to Fratton Park until the end of the season, with the option of a permanent deal if he impresses. Gekas was the top-scorer in the Bundesliga in the 2006-07 season, scoring 21 times in 31 games for Bochum. That form earned him a move to Leverkusen, but he has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot, despite netting 15 goals in 53 appearances - half of which have come as a substitute. Pompey boss Tony Adams told the club's official website: "His goalscoring record is fantastic and he's always looking to score goals. He plays for the Greek national team and recently came on against Italy and scored. A couple of years ago he was the highest scorer in the Bundesliga. The Bundesliga is a fantastic league, so that's not an easy feat. He's a player that I think can come in and do really well straight away. He's certainly hungry to do well and hopefully he can hit the ground running."

Wenger - I would abolish transfer window
By Chris Harris
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-i-would-abolish-transfer-window

Arsène Wenger's dislike for the January transfer window is well-documented.

Not only does the Frenchman tire of the endless speculation which greets every New Year, he also believes the system is flawed because it handicaps those who cannot compete with the richest clubs in the land.

Wenger believes the Premier League has the power to revamp its own transfer rules and he would prefer an 'all or nothing' solution in which the transfer window is open - or closed - for the entire season.

"[If the transfer window was closed all season] at least you know if you make a mistake during the summer you are punished and you have to stand up for it during the whole season," he said.

"I speak completely open because I do not want you to think I am having a go at Man City, but Man City are in a position where they fight against relegation. But they have so many financial resources that of course they will not fight against relegation. They will fight maybe for European places.

"So the other clubs who fight with them, not to be relegated, have a big handicap because they do not have the same resources in the middle of the season. But everybody could understand at the start of the season you have exactly what you have then.

"Of course [the Premier League can change it]. I don't think that Uefa and Fifa will be against that. You could still buy a player and play him abroad, but not be capable to play him in your championship."

"I'm not a fanatic for it [the system I propose] but, if you ask me what is my preference I say 'Yes, completely closed or completely open'."

Wenger has long argued the case for clubs to operate within their natural resources instead of living beyond their means. But he admits that his preferred system is little more than a pipedream in the modern age.

"Basically you could judge really the managers if you say to the 20 clubs in the league 'You have £20million, show me what you can do, everybody.'," said Wenger.

"Then you can judge. Give everybody the same resources, go out in the world, make your team, come back and show me who is the best. But it will never happen."

today action so far.

PREMIER LEAGUE TRANSFER TRACKER:
In: Everton (Jo), Fulham (Dacourt, Gray), Newcastle (Taylor), Portsmouth (Basinas), Stoke (Camara), Tottenham (Keane), West Brom (Menseguez, Mulumbu), Wigan (N'Zogbia)

Out: Fulham (Leijer,Teymourian), Liverpool (Gulacsi, Hamill, Keane), Man City (Jo), Man Utd (Chester), Newcastle (N'Zogbia), Portsmouth (Hyland), Sunderland (Chopra), Wigan (Camara, Taylor)

1517: Portsmouth's 19-year-old Trinidad & Tobago defensive midfielder Khaleem Hyland has signed on a six-month loan for Belgian club Zulte Waregem. How can you be a defensive midfielder at only 19? That's borderline farcical. Maybe he'll learn how to play in a normal midfield position while he's in Belgium.

I'm happy for Robbie Keane....Rafa is a c**t...The Liverpool fans on skysportsnews are absolutely disgusted with Liverpool and Rafa for not giving the lad a good chance and are even more pissed that they didnt bring in a replacement...

I hope he buries them when next they play

As for Arshavin....everything seemed done...but..news coming in from Zenit is the deal has collapsed... i feel it for Arshavin as he is a brilliant player and I would have loved if Utd could have bought him...but maybe a summer bid if the deal really has collapsed.... Skysportsnews said an announcement would be made in an hour

Spurs just summed up why they are they way they are. I cannot believe the fans have not demanded the resignation of the Board.

On another note I was speaking with friend who just returned from the Chec Rep and he said that the big discussions on TV is Rosiky career is over due to injury. That is a pity if it is true, because I liked him as a player. I remember when something similar happened to Van Basten (at 28yrs), I felt football missed out on something special.

Arshavin joins Arsenal till 2012: club sources
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5h7yyVwzTNInUMhTB1o3IYhbCl0Ew

LONDON (AFP) — Russia international midfielder Andrei Arshavin of Zenit St Petersburg has joined Arsenal till June 2012 for 12 million pounds (13.3 million euros), sources at the Premiership club said on Monday.

The Gunners are now merely waiting on the Premier League to sign all the necessary paperwork for the deal to be made official.

The fee was far from the initial asking price the reigning UEFA Cup winners wanted of 20 million pounds, but included a substantial performance-linked bonus.

Conflicting signals had been emerging from Arsenal's Emirates stadium and Russia throughout the day as the 1700GMT deadline came and went and a Zenit club spokesman had even said the deal had fallen through.

The deal apparently hit a last minute snag when Zenit demanded a portion of Arshavin's signing on fee.

But other Russia news agencies were reporting that a deal had been struck on a three-and-a half year contract.

Gazeta.ru site announced that Arshavin, one of the stars at Euro 2008, had passed his medical and was now an Arsenal player, inheriting the Gunners' number 13 shirt.

He will probably not make his debut for the Gunners for a few weeks because he will have to work on physical conditioning to adapt to the rigours of the English game.

The 27-year-old was a major revelation at the Euro 2008 tournament when Russia reached the semi-finals, losing to eventual champions Spain.

Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has on many occasions spoken of his admiration for the player.

Look at Quaresma at Barcelona and Quaresma at Inter and then reassess whether you really want to see him at United.

Admittedly those are two sides that didn't play him as a true winger but he still didn't do the biz at the big clubs.

I have to agree.. this is total BS! Keane was NEVER a team player at Spurs and I was happy when he rotted at Liv. Lets see if he show some humility now and not kerry orn like the bitch he is when he's subbed.

Save the environment..recycle!

haha they sent Keane out for 6 months and got back 5+ million pounds ... not bad

Defoe is out for up to 10 weeks....massive blow for them... would have been nice to see both of them lead the attack when they destroy the gunners on Sunday

Pava will have to step it up until Jermaine returns...I like Pava though... good player and now finding his feet... will be deadly alongside Keane

I see what yuh saying, but in my opinion I think he would have done well working with a coach like Fergie and the type of players Man.U got.

5 goals in 19 games with limited opportunities means the man could not settle?  Steups.  Anyway Keane heself wanted to leave instead of stay and meet the challenge.  I feel dat Keane realize dat Benitez is a bamsee.

how come Sunderland spend no money?

Don't you have to pay a fee when a player is loaned to you?
Tal Ben Haim come over on a free loan?

With a loan, no transfer fee is paid.....Sunderland is only responsible for paying Ben Haim's wages while he's at the club.

That is true for most loans.

With other loans, the minority, clubs actually pay for the right to loan the player. Zaki is an example, and of course Tevez.

I think you will find unless it is a youngster that a lot of the loans in the Premiership are paid loans and not free.  I doubt Simspon from Arsenal has a loan fee attached but Zyaratte (sp) would have before it became permanent.  Some have the arrangement where the loan fee is taken off the final fee if the player is bought after the loan period by the club.

Sunderland didn't spend anything simply because I think there is something up with the ownership of the club possibly changing and also the point with the strange managers appointment.  Its just a guess but I suppose we will have to wait until the summer to find out.
