This is a hint: They'd have to be trying out for the Geriatric XI or even St. Peter's XI for it to affect their contract.

Bingo.
according to AP:
GUATEMALA CITY (AP)--The National Soccer team of Guatemala downed the selection of Trinidad-Tobago 4-0 Monday in the preliminary round for the World Soccer championship to be held in Mexico in 1970.
Two of the goal were contributed by the losers.
Stokes scored at 30 minutes the first goal for Guatemala; at 66, Murren kicked the ball into his own net and two minutes later, Labastide, of Trinidad-Tobago, scored another goal against his net. Melgar put the ball into the Antillean net at 87 giving Guatemala its fourth goal.
The unlucky fullback Murren and his team mate Labastide were trying to help their goalie when they sent the ball into their own net.
Lineups: Guatemala -- Garcia, Oliva, Camposeco, Leon, Melgar, Torres, Montoya, Valdez, Melgar, Pena, and Stokes.
Trinidad-Tobago -- Mouttet; Steadman, Murren, Labastide, [Arnim] David, Aimey, (Butcher), Deleon, Cummings, Haynes, Cave and Archibald.
Both national teams were to play again last night.
