Rival German sportswear giants Adidas and Puma buried the hatchet on a decades-long spat on Monday by playing a football match in their home town of Herzogenaurach, in the south of the country.
Adidas boss Herbert Hainer played up front for his team while Puma chief Jochen Zeitz played in goal, an Adidas spokeswoman said, as the two sides sought to heal a rift kicked off more than 60 years ago.
The two companies were formed after a feud in 1948 between Rudolf and Adolf (Adi) Dassler caused them to split up their business -- once a provider of running shoes to legendary US sprinter Jesse Owens.
The rivalry even divided the firms' home town of 23,000 people in southern Germany, where Adidas and Puma have rival factories on opposite sides of the Aurach river.
But the bosses of both companies hoped the time-honoured tradition of a handshake and a game of football would heal wounds from the rift.
In the race for top German sportswear group, Adidas has generally won out though Puma recently signed a sponsorship with Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.
The match took place between workers from both companies within the framework of the 'Peace One Day' initiative, an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence.

Every individual is different. I never get a good fit from UMBRO or NIKE, so I never liked those boots.
The funny thing about boots today is that when those synthetic materials first came on the secene (mainly from China), man use to say the boots was imitation. Soon Nike and them realized that the production cost would be considerably cheaper with the new materials (rather than leather), marketed the boots and presto man paying $250.00+ for boots they once called imitation. Suckers ;D

I remember by Day 3 of Flipper Soccer Camp my Mitre screwpegs had buss up .. so it was off to Sports and Games for a pair of emergency boots. Get brace on the Adidas, so had to settle for $150 Alix.

haha ... I try tooth and nail to mashup that Alix so I could get a new pair of boots. I even try to let it dry rot by not cleaning the mud on it the end of one football season - straight through cricket season.
That thing was like Bata stone-crushers. Impossible to destroy unless you take a knife and cut it up.
I feel sorry for the thing after that bout of bad-mindedness and decide to use dub-in on it for the 3rd season before it give way.
