Title: What next??
Post by: Mose on September 29, 2009, 03:17:27 AM
So! Several years ago we embarked on a program whereby we kept a team of youngsters together from U15 on up and we've been rewarded by seeing them qualify for 2 World Cups U17 and U20. Their performances in this tournament show a definite improvement over what they did at the U17 level and we look forward to the potential that this team will add to our qualifying for the 2014 WC.

My question is: Now that we've seen the potential for success that happens when we make a commitment to developing a squad of players, who/what is next? Is there a another U15/U17 squad being prepped in the same way as this current group? Or is this a one shot and done deal?

Hopefully they stay together for a campaign to go 2012 England Olympics...that is the next step, right?

Whats next? Well that depends on how you want to look at the future...

Do we stay opimistic that this team experimnt is just the start of things to come for a new effort from the T&TFF or was this a one time thing?

If we are to go by past experiences which seem to return "history repeats itself", then only two members of this team may go on to football grandeur like (Yorke and Nixon did after Portugal) and sadly the rest will not be anyway as successful....at least they can always say they played in a youth World Cup.

Even in the big teams like Brazil and England etc, the percentage of players who go on to greatness after playing for their U-20 teams are very small, so for some T&T players the T&T pro league awaits, along with possible trials at obscure teams in places where even the locals want to leave.

Yet there is some hope for a special few, a lucky few, after all some say luck is when preparation meets opportunity....Doi, doi,doi....

Thats a really good question ,I think I saw a tread for under 15 tryouts few weeks back . Hopefully the TTeFF keeps doing this long term team  pattern .
The under 17s were going along ,until Anton screw them over in the Mexico Ipod debacle .They were suppose the follow the under twenties ,back look closer to being disbanded oui ,hope am wrong .

The next generation of U20s has about 3-4  potential head and shoulders standouts in their ranks. 3 players from the side were on PFL first teams and 2 were playing in CCL. A next one  in John Barnes Digicel program in Sunderland. In all 4 already have experience in trials for teams in top tier European leagues. None of the current U20s were at that level 2 years ago, so we have something to work with.

They look technically sound, strong and aggressive, had a good passing game. Plus a couple players in Egypt still young enough to play in the next U20 WC in 2011.

But the last qualifiers eneded so badly that the TTFF looking a little gun-shy to call up a team, and name a coach.  Defensive organization and discipline was woeful, indescribably bad, in a tun-yuh-face-wit-shame kinda way. Once the defence under pressure the nice knock they had mutated into long balls straight up the middle.

If we learn our lessons from Egypt and Korea and give them the right technical and organizational framework especially DEFENCE from the ground up, they can go a little further than the team now in Egypt.

Thanks for the input folks but ah was really looking to find out about the group following this team, the current U15s and U17s, and if they were being brought along in a similar manner to this group. Because even though this group is doing well, if our football as a whole is going to continue to improve we need to continue the program of preparing and bringing these teams along. Remember is only 3  teams qualify automatically from CONCACAF for the senior WC and this team qualified 4th from CONCACAF for the U20 WC.
