Serbian scout targets speedy J'can players

WITH plans to exploit the local talent pool of footballers, Mossiah Marshall, the only Jamaican agent licensed by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and accredited by FIFA, is currently hosting a Serbian-based scout in the island.

Marshall, who is one of the five principals behind TSA Sports Agency, a Jamaica-based company with offices in the Eastern Caribbean and the United States, indicated that they had been in talks with Serbian scout Milan Davedon since last season.

"He knows about the speed of Jamaican players, so he got in touch with us about the possibilities of recruiting players here," Marshall told the Observer on Sunday during a Digicel Premier League match at Brancourt in Clarendon featuring Tivoli Gardens and Sporting Central Academy.

The other members of the TSA Sports Agency are legal officer Rickie Davis, financial officer Cammela Budram-Dawkins, business development manager Karl Wallace and technical resources manager Dwight Thelwell.

"We have been in touch with him (Davedon) over the past several months and one of our clients, Newton Sterling, got a trial in Russia through his efforts. He has also been helpful in getting two players from Harbour View (Akeem Priestley and Errol Stevens) signed in Europe recently," Marshall said.

Priestley is currently playing with FK Mughan in the Azerbaijan Premier League, while Stevens is with FK Khimki in the Russian Premier League.

"He wanted to come and see for himself the quality here at all levels... so he arrived on Friday and will be spending about 10 days looking at players at all levels," Marshall explained.

For his part, Serbian-based Davedon told the Observer he was impressed with the "speed and ability" of Tivoli striker Navion Boyd as well as Sporting Central defender Linval Lewis during Sunday's encounter.

"For European, if I'm going to take somebody, he's going to have to be very fast with good co-ordination and understanding of the game," Davedon said.

"I liked the defender (Lewis) because he's very aggressive on the ball and he looked pretty strong... He could be a much better player, but Boyd looked very tricky and dangerous when playing one-on-one and he could be even more deadly in a good team," the Serbian added.

Marshall indicated that Davedon, though based in Serbia, works with clubs all across Europe and South America.

"Right throughout Europe he can get players placed, depending on what they bring to the table and what the country is interested in. There are contacts right throughout Europe," added Marshall, who also holds a Level Two coaching certificate from Global Soccer Ministries.

14 young players selected for European trials
Thursday, October 08, 2009

Following the recent TSA Sports Agency-sponsored 10-day scouting exploration trip to Jamaica by Serbian scout Milan Dovedan, 14 players under the age of 16 were identified to go on trials with some European clubs, possibly in early July, 2010.

Dovedan is partially responsible for the August 2009 securing of loan-transfer of two Harbour View players, Errol Stevens and Akeem Priestley, who are in Russia and Azerbaijan, respectively.

He was also instrumental in arranging a recent trial for TSA Sports Agency client and Portmore United player Newton Sterling, at a Russian premier league club.

While here, Dovedan and B Mosiah Marshall, an authorised players' agent based in Jamaica and a partner in TSA Sports Agency, saw players at all levels as they viewed as many daCosta Cup, Manning Cup and Digicel Premier League (DPL) matches as his few days would allow.

It was at the recent daCosta Cup clash between arch-rivals Munro College and St Elizabeth Technical that he spotted the talents of a member of the Munro team who was the first invitee for the European trials.

Dovedan also held coaching sessions with a Montego Bay-based high school and the Papine-UTech U-15 team in Kingston. The scout identified up to eight players from the Kingston team who are to prepare for travel to Europe next summer.

Last Sunday morning's specially arranged Football Showcase of the younger HVFC players included three players from western Jamaica selected by Marshall. Despite the inclement weather, Dovedan was able to get a fair idea of the ability and potential of the players.

From this showcase, five Harbour View youngsters, all under the age of 16 years, were selected for the trials.

Dovedan and Marshall have already met with the players, their parents or guardians, and club officials to explain and discuss any questions that may arise from the selection. All parties were in acceptance of the initial concept.

The various clubs and individuals will coordinate with Marshall and the relevant international agents to prepare the players in a designed development programme, over the next nine months.

An official "Letter of Intent and Invitation" requesting Players, Parents/Guardian and Club to sign an agreement of acceptance to policy guidelines, will follow soon.

On Sunday afternoon, Dovedan finished up his tour at the match between Harbour View FC and Portmore United, where the Serbian scout chose national invitees midfielder, Richard Edwards and defender, Dicoy Williams as players with whom he may want to follow up in the near future.

Earlier in the tour, at the recent DPL match between Sporting Central Academy and Tivoli Gardens FC, Dovedan had also expressed an interest in national invitees defender, Linval Lewis of Sporting Central and forward, Navion Boyd of Tivoli.

Out of curiosity, are there any FIFA approved agents based in T&T? B Mosiah Marshall has been a long time poster on the RBZ forums...he only recently got FIFA accreditation. Congrats to him and the rest of the RBZ forumites (tilla, Karl, Gamma etc) for taking this step in the right direction.
