Tearful José Mourinho says farewell to Marco Materazzi

Following Inter Milan’s victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, José Mourinho says an emotional farewell to centre back Marco Materazzi outside the Bernabéu.

The Portuguese manager, who is widely expected to be named as the new Real Madrid boss later this week, spent two years in Italy with Inter.

Like it real hurt Jose to leave this Inter team boy...you could tell the team have a real family feel to it (except Balotelli who is like the unloved pet).... I understand why he would want to leave though..The Italian FA and people dislike his ego and the media and the refs and the FA treat him like shit but say what...Treble in allyuh ass...he leave his legacy..but he had to leave...It will be very interesting to see his project with Madrid...then when he's done at that cancer of a place he'll come to United to take over from Sir Alex and continue his excellence  ;) (he did say he would leave wherever he was If United came calling...saw that on Skysports when asked If he would manage United..he said it's the only club he wouldnt be able to say no  )

And I feel he had a strong bond with Marco...he like a JT in a sense..like that strong personality that would help bring the players together.... I cant think of one at Madrid..maybe Raul if he stays?

Speculation...Roman was the key factor

Anywhere my point is Terry was the real lion in the squad and helped Mourinho in making Chelsea a family on and off the field...Lampard and Drogba are the other 2 that assisted

maybe he had something to do with Jose's departure but from 2004-2007 he was the father, Jose was the grandfather

Sacked Coach Manuel Pellegrini Laments Restricted Real Madrid Role

http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2010/05/27/1944677/sacked-coach-manuel-pellegrini-laments-restricted-real (http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2010/05/27/1944677/sacked-coach-manuel-pellegrini-laments-restricted-real)

Former Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that he never had a say in how los Merengues played during his season-long reign at the Bernabeu and stated that he did not speak to club president Florentino Perez once since last August.

While he had little say in their style of play, Pellegrini was adamant that it was he who picked the team.

"The coach never had a voice to say how we needed to play but I played who I felt had to play and wasn't under pressure to pick who they [the board] wanted,"  he said as quoted by AS, before noting that he never knew the club president but will shake his hand if he does meet him again.
"It was he [Perez] who brought me to Madrid. I could not do what he wanted, but it was very difficult to maintain a relationship. It was a difficult season.

"I have not talked to him since August. I would have liked to have known him better as president and him known me as a coach, I don't know him either as an individual or as president. I leave an important job done but the president has every right in the world to change the coaching direction of the club."

"I do not know him either as individual or as president. I don't have anything good or bad to say about him. When I see the president I will take his hand and say that for me I am proud to have been coach of Real Madrid and I think now I leave having done an important job."

The sacked Chilean also declared that he was never consulted about the sale of Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben, departures he lamented as mistakes on the part of the club.

"I wanted Sneijder and Robben to stay but I never had a conversation at Real Madrid about who I preferred, if it was Cristiano or Kaka and Sneijder and Robben," he added.

"He decided to sell [Robben and Sneijder], and I think that was wrong. I never had a confrontation with the president. The coach should have had a more important voice in what the team needs. At that point I felt small."

The Chilean fired a sarcastic parting shot at his former employers stating that had the club played in his way perhaps they would have won all their home games and scored more goals.
"Who knows, if the team played with wingers maybe we would have won 19 games in the Bernabeu and scored 120 goals," he noted.

Real Madrid to unveil Jose Mourinho as coach

Real Madrid will unveil Jose Mourinho as their new manager on Monday after agreeing compensation with Inter Milan.

Club presidents Massimo Moratti and Florentino Perez met in Milan on Friday to thrash out a deal to allow Mourinho to quit the Champions League winners.

Mourinho, 47, will replace Manuel Pellegrini in the Madrid hotseat after the Chilean was sacked on Wednesday.

Inter had claimed they were due £13.5m under the terms of Mourinho's contract, which was due to run until 2012.

Mourinho, who took over at the San Siro in 2008, became only the third man to win European club football's most prestigious competition with two different clubs when Inter beat Bayern Munich 2-0 in Saturday's Champions League final.

That success also assured the Nerazzuri's place in the history books as they became the first Italian team to win the Treble, having already retained the Serie A title and beaten Roma to lift the Italian Cup.

Former Chelsea boss Mourinho is contracted to Inter until 2012.

Pellegrini's free-scoring Real side finished runners-up in the Spanish League this season, netting 102 goals in 38 games, with 60 of those strikes coming at home.

But the 56-year-old Chilean was dismissed for failing to land any silverware, despite the Spanish giants having signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso for a combined fee in excess of £196m in the summer of 2009.

AS says Mourinho has informed Real management he wants Inter striker Diego Milito and defender Douglas Maicon for the start of preseason training. The Special One has also urged Real to splash out for Lazio left-back Aleksander Kolarov.

The signing of Maicon would see Sergio Ramos moved back to central defence, while Mourinho is convinced Real can land Milito, who is agitating for a major pay-rise after his stellar first season with Inter.

The Benfica trio of David Luiz, Angel di Maria and Coentrao also remain on Mourinho's shopping list, as revealed earlier this week

INTER MILAN have told Real Madrid to forget about signing Diego Milito.
The Champions League winners fear boss Jose Mourinho may make a move for the 30-year-old Argentina striker when he takes control at the Bernabeu later this summer.

But Inter insist the Special One has no chance of taking Milito with him to Spain.

Club president Massimo Moratti said: "I only say one thing, there's a difference between Milito and our coach.

"Mourinho has a clause in his contract by which if it is exercised, he can leave.

"However, Milito doesn't and the discussion is over."

Jose is the whore of coaches!

Whores do it for survival. Does Jose look like he down and out? It is all about money and in this case, ego. Madrid and Barca only wants La liga and CL titles. That is all the fans and BOD wants. They fire their coaches if they don't win at least the Spanish crown after 2 or maybe 3 season. The only thing is winning.  They pay plenty money to win(like the Yankees). There is a saying, when Madrid calls, you got to go. Bayern, manu,Inter and AC ain't no different.

Real Madrid unveil Mourinho

Real Madrid unveiled Jose Mourinho as their new coach at a news conference on Monday.

The Portuguese has signed a four-year contract with the Spanish giants following his move from European champions Inter Milan.

“It’s an honour to have one of the most prestigious coaches in the world,” Real sporting director Jorge Valdano said.

Mourinho inks deal with Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho is officially the head coach of Real Madrid after signing a deal through June 2014 on Monday.

After meeting with Florentino Perez, Jorge Valdano, Miguel Pardeza and several members of the Board, Jose Mourinho signed a four-year deal with Real Madrid.

Mourinho subsequently held a short conversation with President of Honor Alfredo di Stefano and was later presented with the pen used to ink his contract, a replica of the Santiago Bernabeu, a gold watch and a shirt with his name and the number 1 on the back.

"What drives me is winning with Real Madrid"

Surrounded by press from around the world, Jose Mourinho was introduced as the new head coach of Real Madrid on Monday.

Valdano introduction:
"It is an honor to have one of the most prestigious coaches in the world join us. We are very happy to have him sign for Real Madrid. My job is to look for what is best for the club and at this moment the best is Jose Mourinho, which is why he is here. Welcome and good luck."

Mourinho:
"I don’t know if I was born to coach Real Madrid, but I was definitely born to coach football. I am a coach and I like the most difficult of challenges."

"I am attracted to Real Madrid’s history, their frustrations of recent years and the expectation to win. This is a one-of-a-kind club. I am very proud to coach Real Madrid. I would like to think that my players think the same as I do. The nicest thing of all this isn’t playing or coaching Real Madrid, but winning with Real Madrid. This is what motivates me."

"I think four years are enough to win, build a team with an identity and in football terms prepare for the present and future of Real Madrid. I am very excited and confident. I have a lot of faith in my new players and I hope they do in their new coach."

"I want to thank the President, the Board and Jorge Valdano for thinking about Jose Mourinho as the head coach for their project."

"My goal is to build the present in order to build the future. The second year will be key. It is when the balance between the growth of the team and the job the coach has done is reached. We do not need much time to build a team with its own identity and future."

"I can promise that I am Jose Mourinho and that Jose Mourinho works hard and well, perhaps too much. What drives me the most is always the next challenge and that is now Real Madrid. My level of motivation or dedication never changes. I always do my best, and I will give everything I have to Real Madrid. I have worked hard to deserve to be here today."

"I’ve arrived here after winning all the titles a coach can win at club level, but I never relax. I always want more. It’s important to be humble enough to learn something new every day.  I want what Real Madrid wants. From this day, Real Madrid and I are the same and want the same things."

"Playing in an organised fashion is different from playing a defensive game. When a lie is repeated constantly intelligent people will always regard it as a lie; non intelligent people, however, will transform it into truth. Luckily, there are more intelligent than non-intelligent people in football and that’s why I coach teams like Porto, Inter, Chelsea and Real Madrid."

"Balance comes from playing well with and without the ball, from defending and attacking, and from being psychologically strong to win decisive games. It is impossible to win important games or titles without psychological strength. Football is played by a group of men. They are all different, but they work together and form a family that can sometimes become even more important to them than their own families. The club is a second family to players. You can only achieve this through great levels of empathy. This is the only way to earn unexpected results. Once that moment comes, footballers remain my players forever."

"Cristiano Ronaldo is an incredible and important player, but team-work is more important to me than individual efforts. Raul has made history at Real Madrid and I can’t treat him like any other player. Overall, the team does not need drastic changes. It may need two or three new players to increase the squad’s chances to adapt to a specific style."

"I don’t want my squad to be afraid of any opponent. Fear is not a word you can find in my dictionary of football and I don’t want it to be in that of my players. You need to play twelve games before reaching the Champions League final. All the good and bad things from previous years no longer counts. We will start from scratch. We will work on each game at a time without obsessing about the tournament. We will dream about reaching the Wembley final, but we won’t be obsessed by the idea. Pressure is a motivational factor for me; it isn’t something that affects my job negatively."

Not a Madrid fan... but this is bullshit, call it what it is.  We have a million threads here, one more not going to hurt that much, if 'Pool, Chelsea, ManU and Sunderland could have their own threads then Madrid fans deserve their own. I understand that taken to the extreme there could be a million "Official thread of... " team threads, but in reality, only teams with sizeable "enough" followings deserve their own thread.  Madrid fans should rightly be upset.

Just my take.

Yeah when they merge the newer threads merge into the older thread... but I don't even think the two should even have been merged, seeing that they're only tangentially related.

Higuain has lumbar herniated disc

Gonzalo Higuain was examined at Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital on Wednesday morning and diagnosed with a lumbar herniated disc (L5-S1), which causes weakness and radiating numbness. “The player met with a specialist, the coach, the fitness trainer and the entire medical staff. After a period of five to six weeks, during which no improvement was seen, we all agree that he should have surgery. We must now decide what specialist to see for a second opinion, and if we all agree, proceed with the operation. Should this be the case, Higuain will be unable to participate in sports for approximately two months,” commented Dr. Carlos Diez, Chief of Real Madrid’s medical services.

Kaka has just begun a new stage in his recovery process. Having successfully completed the first stage consisting of physiotherapy, pool and gym work, the Brazilian midfielder is now working outdoors to test the stability of his knee and initiate the muscle strengthening process.

Under the watchful eye of Real Madrid’s medical services and fitness trainer Carlos Lalin, Kaka has begun proprioception work and strength and speed training with the goal of building up stamina and proceeding to the next stage of his recovery. He did not feel any discomfort while performing turning, speed and stamina drills. Kaka was congratulated by several or his teammates and coaches, who know the player is one step closer to returning to the field of play.
