National coach Theodore Whitmore has invited 26 local-based players to be part of a fitness training camp which got under way yesterday.
The camp will see the Reggae Boyz, who have been out of action since a hastily arranged match against World Cup hosts South Africa back in April, focus on fitness and strengthening exercises. The national team's next major tournament is expected to be the Caribbean Cup which gets under way in August. However, the Reggae Boyz, who are the defending champions, and currently ranked at 81st in the latest FIFA World rankings have got a bye to the third round, which begins in September. The Boyz could lace up their boots as early as next month with the national team expected to take on Trinidad and Tobago in early August. The team will have a training session at the UWI Bowl at 3:30 p.m. today.

Pretty soon the WC will be over, time to get the national program back in a gear.

Key is to get a regular run of fixtures, even if its against our regional neighbours, at least one game a month either home or abroad. Throw in the digicel competition.

A run of games will generate some national interest again. Get the crowds in, create a buzz again. We have been too inactive over the last 6 months.

Brazil or bust

Boyz land friendly against C'Rica
Ian Burnett

JAMAICA'S Reggae Boyz have been booked to play their next home international friendly game against CONCACAF rivals Costa Rica here at the National Stadium on Sunday, September 5.

This latest confirmation brings the total number of friendly international games for the Reggae Boyz to three in as many months following an earlier agreement between the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) for a two-legged series.

"I can confirm that a strong Costa Rican national team will play against the Reggae Boyz here at the Office on Sunday, September 5," responded JFF president Captain Horace Burrell yesterday.

"It was not easy to organise this game, but we managed to pull it off in the end," added the JFF boss, who was able to successfully negotiate the home and away series against Trinidad and Tobago while on duty at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals in South Africa between June 11 and July 11.

Those games are slated for Wednesday, August 11 in Trinidad, with the return slated for the National Stadium on Sunday, October 10.

The local governing body's arranging of these three friendlies is all part of the continuation of the Brazil 2014 World Cup Qualification programme, as well as preparation for the Digicel CFU Caribbean Cup, which is slated for Martinique between late November and early December.

Being the first home game for the Boyz since opening their 2010 campaign with a 1-0 win over Canada on January 31, Captain Burrell is expecting both teams to be at full strength, which would bolster spectator support.

"We will be able to field the strongest squad possible, as all our overseas players will be available for selection seeing that it is a FIFA date," declared Captain Burrell, a CFU vice-president and CONCACAF executive member.

Costa Rica just missed qualifying for the South Africa World Cup Finals after being edged out by the odd goal (1-2) in their two-way play-off with South America's two-time World Cup champions Uruguay, who finished a creditable fourth in the 19th edition.

Outside of the friendly against Canada, the Boyz also engaged Argentina in a 1-2 loss in Mar Del Plata on February 10, then suffered a 0-2 loss to World Cup hosts South Africa in that country.

Captain Burrell is now looking to tie up another friendly for November 17, the last of the FIFA dates on the 2010 calendar.

Whitmore keeps faith with young Boyz
BY LIVINGSTON SCOTT Observer staff reporter

DESPITE mounting scepticism about the local-based squad, national senior football coach Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore believes he is on track as the Reggae Boyz continued preparations for next month's friendly match against Trinidad and Tobago yesterday.

The former national player came on as a substitute and played more than 70 minutes with the younger players of the national senior squad against Manchester High School in a practice game at the UWI Bowl yesterday.

However, before he entered the game it was very difficult to separate the teams based on their performance at that stage, which raised serious questions about the quality of the side.

But Whitmore insisted that the standard of his team is not an issue as most of the players used in the game were young players he was still looking at.

"There are three young players that you saw today that we'll be taking to Trinidad, so this was like a trial for the rest of players.

"It was just a little practise, scrimmage-like game... but if you notice, most of the seniors players that we'll be taking with us to Trinidad... were sitting down, so it was just for the younger players to really get a taste of things," he explained.

Despite looking a cut above everyone else, Whitmore said his presence on the field was mainly to give advice and motive his players.

"It was just to encourage and... really bring them up to date with what is happening on the field, because some of them have lost the fun out of the game and that's the most important thing," he stated.

Meanwhile, only one of the three players who were suspended recently for turning up late for training is now eligible for selection.

"The only player who is up for selection is Keammar Daley, but we still haven't heard anything from (Xavian) Virgo and we haven't heard anything from (Desmond) Breakenridge," Whitmore said.

The team has already played matches against St Thomas and St James Allstars and will continue their preparations against Trelawny this Sunday and Portland Allstars the following Saturday.

Whitmore says he is very pleased with how preparations are coming on presently and will be trimming his squad very soon.

"We will be taking 18 players to Trinidad and that will include about five overseas-based players," he said.

‘Reggae Boyz’ warm up for Caribbean derby with T&T

Issued on July 29,2010

Jamaica National Senior Team head coach Theodore Whitmore says his team will be approaching the   August 11 friendly international against Trinidad and Tobago with serious intent and are likely to include five overseas-based professionals for the encounter at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.

Whitmore, one of the heroes of Jamaica’s 1998 World Cup squad, now in charge of the team, made an appearance in a practice match between the national team and Manchester High School at the UWI Bowl on Wednesday as the “Reggae Boyz” warmed up for the friendlies against T&T and Costa Rica.

Whitmore insisted that the standard of his team in the friendly was not an issue as most of the players used in the game were young players he was still looking at. He is keen to get a good result over T&T after the “Soca Warriors” by passed his team as the Caribbean’s number one on the latest FIFA World rankings.

"There are three young players that you saw today that we'll be taking to Trinidad, so this was like a trial for the rest of players.

"It was just a little practice, scrimmage-like game... but if you notice, most of the seniors players that we'll be taking with us to Trinidad... were sitting down, so it was just for the younger players to really get a taste of things," he explained.

"The team has already played matches against St Thomas and St James Allstars and will continue their preparations against Trelawny this Sunday and Portland Allstars the following Saturday.

Whitmore says he is very pleased with how preparations are coming on presently and will be trimming his squad very soon but  was yet to  name his five overseas based pros for the match.

"We will be taking 18 players to Trinidad and that will include about five overseas-based players," he said.

Meantime, there was some controversy stirred up in another training match between the Jamaica Senior team and a Claro/St James XI at Jarret Park this week.

The game was aborted following a fight between former national captain Warren Barrett who is currently the senior team goalkeeper coach and referee Donat McKenley. At the end of the fight, Barrett was left nursing a bloody nose while blood was seen dripping from the lips of referee McKenley, who also had a dislocated finger.

Reports in the Jamaica Press on Thursday stated that Barrett seems likely to lose his job with the national team. It is understood that the Jamaica Football Federation's (JFF) Disciplinary Commission has recommended in its report, that the FIFA World Cup 1998 custodian be stripped of his duties with the organisation, following the incident, and that the final decision lies with the JFF's hierarchy led by president, Captain Horace Burrell.

Meantime, Russell Latapy will continue preparations for the match with two training sessions on Monday and Tuesday at the Marvin Lee Stadium ahead of the clash with Jamaica and the 2010 Digicel Caribbean Cup. That evening of football is likely to include a double header with the T&T Women’s Under 17 team facing a soon to be determined opponent in the earlier fixture.

Ricketts released
Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

National goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts is expected to join up with the rest of the Reggae Boyz squad ahead of the Trinidad and Tobago friendly international, having been released by Major League Soccer (MLS) club LA Galaxy.

Initially, it had seemed that there was a confrontation brewing between the MLS outfit and local football's governing body, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), after initial hesitancy on the part of the club to release the player for the encounter. Despite a splendid run of form for LA Galaxy, which saw him recently earning a spot as starting keeper on the MLS All-Star team, Ricketts has not made an appearance for the national team since last year's Gold Cup.

According to the JFF, several requests to have the shot stopper released for a number of friendly internationals since then, a total of six in all, had been turned down for various reasons by the club, a situation that had seen the local body threaten to approach FIFA with a view to having regulation enforced.

Fifa regulations

According to FIFA regulations, "A club holding the registration of a player called up to play in the national team must release him to the national association on the fixed/set dates (FIFA dates) for international matches in each calendar year."

The Jamaica vs Trinidad game, which is set for August 11, will fall on an official FIFA friendly international match date.

"We are happy that a compromise could be reached. At any level of international football, there has to be a certain amount of give and take," head of the JFF, Captain Horace Burrell, told The Gleaner.

"We understand that there are times the player will not be available due to the fact that the club has an important fixture and we are willing to work around that, but cooperation is extremely important."

"However, the situation as it stood had become totally unacceptable and we were not willing to put up with it any longer," Burrell said.

It should be noted that in an unofficial response, officials from LA Galaxy had pointed out that they were well within their rights because of the six previous requests that were made by the JFF for Ricketts, only one fell on a FIFA match date. The official, who could not speak on record due to protocol, noted that the shot stopper was also injured at the point of other call-ups, and that some were made during or close to important fixtures for the club.

Meanwhile, Ricketts will be joined by MLS players Dane Richards of the New York Red Bulls, and Ryan Johnson, who plies his trade for the San José Earthquakes. Rodolph Austin of Norwegian Premier League side SK Brann and Eric Vernan, currently on loan to Nybergsund IL, also in Norway, will be the European additions. Despite the squad missing a number of regular invitees, including Luton Shelton, who recently caught the eye of Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola while playing for Valarenga, Burrell explained that it was part of an evaluation process being carried out by national coach Theodore Whitmore.

The 83rd-ranked Jamaicans will tackle the Trinidadians in Macoya and then prepare to host 49th-ranked Costa Rica at the Office on September 5.

What a stupid remark. So how much money T&T earned from its last friendly with Antigua (by your logic T&T only play teams that are willing to pay them)

Not sure what agreement is in place between T&T and Jamiaca for the upcoming two games, but international games are never played for free, especially those play on FIFA match dates.

  • it will cost the JFF around US$100K to bring Costa Rica to the Office on Sept 5th.
  • the JFF got roughly the same amount from its last last two friendlies played against Argentina and South Africa respectively

OK IM BACK.  Since the players getting their WC money and the blacklist over Ill be back spending money on ttff games tickets ending my strike. Im going to this game after a nearly a decade of protest not giving Jack or Camps my money.  Hopefully a win will be presented by the team to make this even better.  Will take pics and video for sure and see who i can make out in the crowd. I'll be the one booing whenever Denzil Theobald touches the ball.  Is this game in the Hasely Crawford or MLS? Most likely ill be buying my tickets at the door.

Listen guys, JA will give we a run run run. You see this is the difference, JA playing big games and regardless if they playing games for free .....they playing. Teams to pay money to play T&T.....steups. THe truth is that  teams are more interested in playing JA than T&T because of they are Jamaica. I telling yuh, the amount of good friendlies we play will help determine T&Ts qualification for 2014.

JA's downfall will be their financial woes.... While T&T will be the friendlies against the Grenadas, Antiguas, Dominicas, Tobago X1, Under 23, Over 40, Soca princesses, my sunday side, etc......At least get some matches with Venezuela and maybe some of the African teams. I pretty sure the Africans will love to give their Caribbean brothers a sweat.

So far it is fair to say our game with JA is the biggest game of the year. And they are the only real opposition we have for this year.

I hope we pull off a win at home. Cause I pretty sure JA will give us at least 2 goals at the Office.

Theobald says clash with Boyz vital for Cup hopes.
T&T Newsday Reports.

Portmore United’s midfielder Andrew Vanzie is the only newcomer to the Reggae Boyz squad as preparation for their upcoming international friendly against Trinidad and Tobago resumed with a five- day training camp which started yesterday at the Player’s Residence in Kingston.

Vanzie who is attached to Portmore United and is a member of the Jamaican Under-21 CAC Games squad, has earned his first call-up by team coach Theodore Whitmore.

Vanzie, 20, was part of the Under-21 CAC Games squad a few months ago. Prior to their departure for Port-of-Spain on Monday, the Reggae Boyz will play a training match on Saturday against a Portland Select Team.

The Reggae Boyz has been playing a series of practice matches against local parish teams and on Sunday they defeated Trelawny 3-1.

At least five overseas players are expected to join the current squad which Whitmore will trim before coming to Trinidad and Tobago They include New York Red Bulls player Dane Richards, San Jose Earthquakes’ Ryan Johnson, Rodolph Austin of Norwegian Premier League side SK Brann and Eric Vernan, currently on loan to Nybergsund IL, in Norway and LA Galaxy goalkeeper Donovon Ricketts.

TT coach Russell Latapy will resume training at 4 pm on Monday at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya. Several of his players are unavailable this week due to club commitments with Joe Public and Jabloteh FC in the Concacaf Champions League.

They include Joe Public’s Kerry Baptiste, Marvin Phillip, Makan Hislop, Trent Noel, Hayden Tinto and Jabloteh’s Jason Marcano, Ataullah Guerra and Robert Primus.

Caledonia AIA midfielder Densill Theobald is geared up for the encounter, remembering the impact of the 2-2 draw in 2008 when Soca Warriors came from two goals down to earn a last minute draw in Kingston.

“We had a lot of challenges in that game as we went in with 15 players because of injuries but we played a really fantastic game to earn the draw.

That game was a real battle between the two top sides in the Caribbean and I think on Wednesday the match will be another hard- fought one,” Theobald said yesterday.

“It’s definitely going to give us a fair indication as to how the team is shaping up for the Digicel Cup and the coach has stressed that he wants to focus on the local players for the tournament so it will be an excellent opportunity for us to come out and perform well.

“We are in a rebuilding stage as well after the last World Cup campaign and I think all the players know how important it is for us to do well in the Digicel Cup and qualify for the Gold Cup and also do well there. For us, the preparations must be at a decent level from now which means that they must do well in this friendly on Wednesday,” he ended.

The match on August 11 kicks off at 6 pm at the Marvin Lee Stadium and tickets will be on sale on match-day at the venue.

Jamaica training squad:

Kenardo Forbes; Jermaine Taylor, Romeo Parkes and Randall Huie; Adrian Reid, Ricardo Cousins, Andrew Vanzie and Mario Swaby; O’Neil Fisher, Richard Edwards, Kavin Bryan and Dicoy Williams; Troy Smith, Dino Williams and Oliver Trail; Devon Hodges; Peter Harrison, Navian Boyd and Keammar Daley; Orion Dennis; Devon Williams; Rafe Wolfe and Dennis Taylor.

From Fuentes....

The T&T Senior team is preparing for next Wednesday’s friendly international against Jamaica at the Marvin Lee Stadium. The game will be the second of a double header with the T&T Women’s Under 17 team tackling the Women’s  Senior team  at 4pm.

T&T has its sight set on going all the way through to the Digicel Caribbean Cup Finals which will be staged in Martinique from November 26-December 5. And for Wednesday’s friendly versus the

“Reggae Boyz”  who will arrive with five overseas-base pros,  T&T have also drafted in three overseas-based players including San Jose Earthquakes striker Cornell Glen and Puerto Rico Islanders duo Keon Daniel and Kendall Jagdeosingh.  W Connection midfielder Clyde Leon and Caledonia AIA’s Densill Theobald will miss the encounter because of injuries.
Glen believes T&T should  have what it takes to handle the Haitians.

“Well the equation changes up a bit now that are preparing to play a team such as Haiti in Stage two of the Digicel Cup but we welcome such a challenge because we believe they are a pretty decent opposition,” Glen  told TTFF Media.

“Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti and Jamaica are considered to be the among the top teams in the Caribbean and this allows us to have another valuable match following the one with Jamaica on Wednesday. Right now the focus is on Jamaica and hopefully I can bring my form at the moment to the national team. I’m feeling good at the moment and I’ve been involved a lot for San Jose in recent matches. Hopefully I can hit the mark on the international stage,” Glen added.

Stop the f**kery!

Wish it was that simple but a few things need to iron out before we can build back properly and become even stronger than ever before!

1. The 2006 World Cup players need to get paid.
2. Any blacklisting of players involved in the fight for their money need to be removed.
3. Local players need to join FPATT in mass.
4. Camps needs to resign and be replaced with someone competent for the job who is not a Jack puppet.
5. The TTFF needs to show transparency and to put a proper development plan in place.
6. Regular friendlies against World Class quality opponents need to be organised at least 1 decent quality game per month.
7. Once all the above is in place then when we do play Caribbean opponents we can confidently expect to anniliate them.

Until these steps are done we spinning top in mud!!

But despite lack of all of the above at present I am still a Soca Warriors supporter to de bone and always want to see them performing to their full potential and winning all their games friendlies or not especially against our arch rivals Jamaica!!

T&T 3 - 1 Ja would be a satisfactory result! :chilling:

Same shit....different day....National duty trumps any shit ass national league....Trinidad and Tobago should be going all out to blast any Caribbean competion, everytime!...punto final!  Ah doh want to hear bout no club competition and shite like that. WE make world cup....JA make world cup....is the most important duel right now!  Who win take all the spoils...Aren't no such thing as friendly....Doh tell me..if we loose, that it was our second rate team.  No effen Excuses...

To build back....we T&T, need to anniliate all Caribbean competition...if we stand a chance of competing against Mexico, USA, Costa Rica and Hondurus.  It simple!

:chilling:

Cornelle coming so I guess 3 goals could score.

Boyz depart for Warriors showdown
Jamaica Observer

Jamaica's national senior footballers are slated to travel to Trinidad today ahead of Wednesday's friendly international against the hosts.

The game was originally set for the Hasely Crawford Stadium, but due to FIFA inspection of the facilities for the Under-17 Women's World Cup, the game has been switched to the Marvin Lee Stadium at 6:00 pm (5:00 pm Jamaica time).

Thirteen local-based players have been selected by head coach Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore, and they along with Eric Vernan, the European-based player, who is already in the island, will depart today at approximately 2:00 pm. They will be joined upon arrival in the twin-island republic by US-based players Donovan Ricketts, Shavar Thomas, Ryan Johnson and Dane Richards, as well as Rodolph Austin, who is also based in Europe.

Wednesday's game is a continuation of the Brazil 2014 World Cup campaign, which was launched on January 31 with a game against Canada at Kingston's National Stadium.

The game, the first of a two-leg series between the top two Caribbean nations, will be the fourth international for the Boyz this year, after the 1-0 win over Canada, a courageous 1-2 loss to Argentina in Mar Del Plata and a 0-2 loss to South Africa in Germany.

The return leg is slated for October 10 at the National Stadium, but before that the Boyz will entertain CONCACAF neighbours Costa Rica at the same venue on September 5.

Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) boss Captain Horace Burrell has promised that both teams would parade their best "available players", and while the English League players are not expected to participate, Trinidad and Tobago's head coach Russell Latapy is sure to field a number of his star players.

Jamaica's local-based players are Jermaine Taylor, Dicoy Williams, Andre Blake, Devon Williams, Oneil Fisher, Troy Smith, Adrian Reid, Richard Edwards, Ricardo Cousins, Devon Hodges, Kavin Bryan, Kenardo Forbes and Mario Swaby.

The touring party is completed by Head of Delegation Sheridan Samuels; Whitmore; assistant coach Bradley Stewart; team manager Howard Bell; team doctor Ivor O'Connor; and equipment manager Dwayne Blake.

Boyz will win - Burrell
André Lowe, Senior Staff Reporter

As Jamaica's 19-man Reggae Boyz squad gets ready to depart the island later this afternoon for Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president, Captain Horace Burrell, is expecting his team to get the better of their regional arch-rivals on their own turf.

Speaking to The Gleaner last night, Burrell was extremely confident when asked to weigh the team's chances in the twin-island republic, as both teams get ready for their friendly international on Wednesday.

"I think that we have enough ammunition in our arsenal to take care of the Trinidadians in Port of Spain," said the captain.

"I'm expecting this to be a keenly contested game. It's not going to be easy as when both teams play each other it's normally a difficult game and I'm expecting no less this time around," he added. "But I believe our players are focused and are aware of the task at hand and I'm expecting a good performance from them."

Long-term plans

Burrell was also keen to highlight the importance of this encounter to the long-term plans of his administration with the Digicel Caribbean Cup and World Cup qualifications just around the corner.

"This game is very important for us to fine-tune preparations first of all for the Digicel Caribbean Cup to be held later this year and beyond," Burrell noted. "We recognised the need to get back to where we are expected to be in terms of Caribbean and CONCACAF football and this is a step in that direction."

Meanwhile, the squad, which is scheduled to leave the island shortly after 2 p.m, features three first-time senior team invitees; Devon Williams (Real Mona/St Georges), Oneil Fisher (Harbour View/St Georges) and Andre Blake (Sporting Central). The trio were all part of national Under-21 squad, which had been preparing for the Central American and Caribbean Games in July.

Six overseas-based players

The squad is highlighted by the inclusion of six overseas-based players - Shavar Thomas (Kansas City Wizards), Ryan Johnson (San Jose Earthquakes), Dane Richards (New York Red Bulls), Donovan Ricketts (LA Galaxy), Rudolph Austin (SK Brann) and Eric Vernan (Nybergsund).

Norway-based left-sided utility player, Demar Phillips, was also invited but could not make the trip after he picked up an injury two Sundays ago.

Jamaica squad: Jermaine Taylor, Dicoy Williams, Richard Edwards, Adrian Reid, Devon Williams, Kavin Bryan, Oniel Fisher, Kenardo Forbes, Ricardo Cousins, Troy Smith, Devon Hodges, Mario Swaby, Andre Blake, Shavar Thomas, Ryan Johnson, Dane Richards, Donovan Ricketts, Rodolph Austin and Eric Vernan.

Concerning the pitch, I'm still at M/Lee, with all this rain falling, expect a mudfield on Wednesday (unless God blesses us with sunshine); with regards to the first XI - Theobald is injured and there will be a change on the wings, daz all I'll say for now (since I don't know exactly wat Latapy will do between now and 6 pm Wednesday).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do we not have an alternative venue for hosting these games? Is the Marvin Lee  venue privately owned? How is the revenue from the game allocated? Is there an obligation to inform the paying public? Is there an independent national stadium that could host these games? Are there any conflict of interest with any government ministers  and the hosting of these games? Should the public  money  subsidize these games? what would  a specific minister say to this?

If Marvin Lee stadium is in need of repairs , this hopefully would not be under the mandate of  'WORKS'

AB,

They are doing inspections and work on all the other stadia for the under 17 world cup.

Anil came on TV and said they are behind as no maintainence work was done.

Hence the COE...plus they do not have to pay rental fees. (assuming the old agreements are still in place)

This game was originally carded for the HCS.

LA's Ricketts honored to suit up for Reggae Boyz

Goalkeeper will face Trinidad and Tobago in friendly Wednesday

CARSON, Calif. — Los Angeles Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts has been a fixture for his country for some time. Ricketts played all eight of Jamaica’s 2010 World Cup qualifying matches and started for Jamaica in the 2009 and 2005 Gold Cups.

Thus, it is no surprise that he has been called upon to help Jamaica usher in this World Cup cycle. Ricketts will try and help the Reggae Boyz on the long road to qualifying for the 2014 World Cup with a warm-up match against rivals Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday.

Ricketts is likely to start in goal for the Boyz.

“It’s always an honor to play for your country, but sometimes you can’t go because of club commitments,” said Ricketts, who last played for Jamaica in the 2009 Gold Cup. “It’s not necessarily that you don’t want to play for your country, but sometimes their schedule is hectic and sometimes club comes first.”

Club seemed to come first this time around. A report in Jamaican daily The Gleaner said the Jamaican FA was threatening to approach FIFA over the Galaxy’s alleged denial to release Ricketts. But the big 'keeper said there was nothing to that report.

“The Jamaican federation jumped and put something in the paper but later apologized,” Ricketts said. “It was just a slight misunderstanding.”

Potential controversy notwithstanding, Ricketts is approaching the match against the Soca Warriors with excitement and confidence. If nothing else, Trinidad and Jamaica should provide an electric atmosphere.

“It’s like a Chivas-Galaxy game," he said. "It’s always a close rivalry between us and Trinidad. Every game is a competitive game between us, and I’m looking forward to it.”

As far as predicting a winner, Ricketts didn't hold back his confidence.

“We’re going to win down there on their turf,” he said. “Jamaica is the better team.”

Not only does Jamaica have the better soccer team, but Ricketts also ensured that their national beer – Red Stripe – was better than Trinidad’s Carib.

“Red Stripe, mon!” he exclaimed.

No TV links.....steups

This is one reason why the players arent getting the exposure they deserve.

The TTFF  should be streaming this. They really need to get some "up to date" media and marketing personnel. Cause in this day and age, games like this should be visible to the global community. This lack of innovation definitely contributes to the lack of success that T&T football is experiencing.

I hope a tv link is posted by someone.

My prediction for this leg is 0-0 or maybe a 1-0 for T&T. However, I will not be suprised if JA pulls it off.

Now we know which team definitely have the better coach!
And their Captain Burrell plans to replace Whitmore with a foreign coach later on in the build-up to Brazil 2014 qualification campaign as he doesn't believe Whitmore is good enough to take Jamaica to the promise land!
So what does that say about our chances of Latapy taking us to the promise land with Latapy in charge?  :-\

If Latapy does not see some of his subs should be replacing his starters, and after a 3-1 beating in his own backyard, he should make way for a coach who has the capability to take us to Brazil 2014.

The potential of the Under 20 team should not be wasted by a poor coach just because he is a favoured son.

They should call this team the Soca Pansies

Btw are you Captain Burrell and can you predict the future?
I also heard from some Jamaicans that you'll have now discovered oil in Jamaica and will soon be swimming in even more money than us Trinis so you may not be that broke for long unless you allow the USA to steal all the oil and still leave you broke!  8)

I was supporting Latas as the coach but it seems that he doesn't get it. We are not so great offensively that we can win without playing defense. It seems that he doesn't get it. Thus far he hasn't called Birchall or Julius James and they can both help us defensively. I also saw Primus and he is probably already our best defender. He is big, strong, good on the ball and he reads the game well. Plus he has more international experience than these fools he has playing. I say go to the defenders from the U-23 team. The played well, dare I say on an international level at the U-20 WC.

Latas said before the game that he wanted to see if we progressed tactically but it seems that we have regressed. He has a lot to answer for, and in fact I would have no qualms if he lost his job as a result of this performance.

nothing to do with the players, it lies with the coach and team selection, knowing which players should play anw hen to make subs and where the players are best suited.

latas is the blame, not the players, bc wim took a team with less talent and only jemmott and theobald and did well. latas dont know what he is doing

I'm really beginning to wonder. Access to players like is a club team and according to commentary and report the mids and defense still in a mess. This begs the questions:
- What are we doing in training?
- What are the evaluation methods used to select players?
- Who are the selectors and how invovled are they with the players?
- Should clubs continue to let the Coach have this great amount of access to the players?
- Players mentality (do they think they are safe?)
- How long should we persist having seen no pattern of development or improvement to team play?
- Is there a difference between experimenting and lack of responsibility to national pride?

If Beenie man would come back I would have him but we need to pay our players their 2006 Word Cup bonuses and put our house in order first as he will not come back to deal with any $hit!!

Any Jamaican who think that Theodore Whitmore can qualify Jamaica for a world cup finals and have them winning games is being delusional. Whitmore himself will be the first to tell you that he cant do this thing by himself.

Burrell will bring in a foreign coach 6 months before qualifiers start, Whitmore will be his assistant.

We have players capable of replacing Akilie Edwards and the rest of the CONSTANT underachievers. But we not keeping them in the bnational setup. I've started a fund to make the trip to Brazil in 2014. While I hope and pray by some miracle we make it the reality is most likely I will have to support Brazil in the next World Cup. Guava season is right.

I'm beginning to wonder if we can only produce a good team every 16 years (1990, 2006 .....) I hope not. Looking at New Zealand play in the last World Cup with a lot of guys from the lower leagues in England not world beaters but could do a lil ting. Right now we are not even on that level. Most of the pros are retiring or riding pine. That is a decent indicator of our level. How many players do we have playing regularly in competitive leagues out there.

Even so we could do a lot better with our preparation so that we have something decent to build on for 2018. The attitude as well needs to change. There was a decidedly lax approach to this match from the beginning, as if we were going to play Jamaica netball team or something.

This is not a coaching issue, both teams used coaches with almost similar background and experience, in fact, i'd say they have identical coaching experience, with Latapay perhaps having a little bit more due to the work he did at falkirk.

Maybe its not my place to say this, but the issue with football in the caribbean in general is that the talent pool is not very deep.
Yes, there is talent in the region, but you need more than 11 players to make a good football squad.

I dare say Whitmore at this current moment has more talent at his disposal...which is why we can select 6 players from the MLS, and still have another 5 or 6 there that werent invited...and still not even calling the players that play in England
and another 4 in Scandinavia.

When you think of it, Kenwyn Jones, Glenn and Chris Birchall are perhaps the only players that are actively playing at club level that werent playing today. All the other players that went to the world cup are past their best at this point.

that coupled with a Federation that lacks true leadership.

I mean its going ten years now you guys havent beaten jamaica. Jamaica might have chnaged its entire senior team 3 times in that period.

Maybe so, it may not be your place to say that  ;D but JA move so because of the coach(es).

Look, if the barometer of success is qualifying for the Confed, that means winning the GC, T&T eh doin dat now under Latas, right now in T&T Football, is ah case of paint on rotten wood, and dat real hard for me to say on a personal level, especially when we have a wealth of personas and resources who have connected to T&T Football in the past and have given us a competitive edge and spirit against all the odds...

What happens from here on in matters, because it affects the psyche of future generations to come, there is an old saying in the game that goes like this: Winning is a habit.

Unfortunately so is losing...

Pushing 4 past Antigua and Barbuda, does not mean that we should take JA any less lightly. The attitudes have to change. It's not what you feel on the inside that defines you you know, it's what you do for the world to see, and some of Latapy's statements pre game, surely had a bearing on the fellas performance tonight.

sometimes an easy approach CAN backfire...

am not saying a foreign coach cant wirk ! but it got to be now ! and i hope the trinis lern too , no way a foreigner can operate a successful program in six months , look at nigeria , they fired amadu six months b4
a major tournament and the failed miserably at the wc , coaches need to know players and feel out things
look at honduras and rueda . Reggaefan u coming up short ! ???

but Palos, if we have men playing outside, and we have men playing locally, who want to be playing outside, then something wrong wid de system, because as much as we population small, it have real men wid real skills and football sense... how come we CYAH find dem and assemble ah 16/23 to do de business...

is 3 we colleck tonight and one was a penalty... dat screams at me that we cannot attack, nor defend, something hadda give, and dat means digging deep and finding a suitably qualified coach...

Even if it means, looking back to the past, when we were more successful... if we continue on this road breds, is real pain fuh we...

RF starting to sound a bit like Palos here but I have to admit he maybe onto something!
It may not be just a coaching issue after all!  ::)

Lets see, RF plan:
We just beat T&T 3 - 1 in T&T with Latas in charge!
I need to encourage them to keep Latas so we have less competition for qualifying for the Hex so I must do my best to encourage them to remove their focus from Latas and focus on their players/talent pool!
Nice try RF, you almost had me there, I would accept that argument from Palos but with you I have to raise my suspicion about the real agenda!

Now I know Palos is wrong as its 100% confirmation when RF starts pushing the same argument!  8)

You seem to think Whitmore will be discared..Which is not the case. Whitmore will be around Jamaica football for a loooong time to come unless he doesnt want to be involved. I'll say it again, the cpatian will bring in somoeone with more experience than Whitmore when its world cup qualifying time, Its not a replacement of Whitmore, its bolstering the coaching staff. look at it as a two man coaching staff, or a TD, head-coach scenario. Any foreign coach will need a able-assistant that is Jamaican...Simoes and Brown formed an excellent partnership in Somoes first sting in ja

LOL so you saying Jones, Birchall and Glen are the only three players that still play active that T&T can choose from ?..this is why people in here dont take you seriously

even if Latas did not want to call Jones and MLS players, he still had these players below to invite..

We missed Hyland in midfield today..

We missed Roberts upfront today

We missed Jloyd Samuel in defence today...

but no no we can win this with all local squad

Well ah take een the game in spurts.   Ah ketch the first 5 - 10 mins, then from the 30th min or so...then from about the 60 something minute then ah ketch the dying seconds.....and during that time ah gather that...

Akile/Aklie Edwards is still frustrating to watch.  Ah hear Makan Hislop on the field and almost crash mih car, Really Latapy, Makan Hislop??  ???.....ah ketch that Tinto on the bench and everybody in the stadium cyar understand why, ah ketch that when Tinto came on and a couple other changes were made the team looked much better.   Ah hear that the Jamaicans deserve the win, they looked more composed on the ball.....yada, yada, yada....

Hear nah, we ever play JA under Wim or Maturana??  What was the result??....oh and ah cyar wait for the Touches match report (Touches ah feel yuh should trademark yuh report, so that we have to type "The Touches Match Report (c)"  ;D)

congrats and well done to Tapa and Jamaica..yes.. I said it...

they deserved the win...they were better...faster...more aggressive... better structure... and had lots more pride and will to win....

so if i am to go with Latas pre game talk about seeing where we are...and where Jamaica are...well ...they are way ahead in preparations...they played with good shape... and good on the counter....
and this is not even close to a full strength jamaica.. and of course not a full strength tnt.. so even the depth is better....and it was there for all to see at the MLS.....

the 3 goals were all very sloppy... and Jamaica took advantage....i cant recalling seeing a national footballer look so out of depth as Makan Hislop today..at right back...and please dont say he played out of position....the last player i saw look so out of place was Dereck Phillips.... at times Hislop looked like he did not even know the sport...and allyuh know i dont lambaste players so....

anyhow...
Jan M williams...just have to keep going...i rather Marvin Phillips...but not sure if he starts for his club ( what club ??)

Makan Hislop (RB)....i actually thought of storming the field to slap him like a child...im serious
Akile Edwards... we have all seen enough...he not good.. out of 90 mins.. he may give you a 5 min looking like he is  ok...is time to get Akeem Adams in there for an extended run
Keston Williams....saw his last 2 matches... i dont rate him....
Carlyle Mitchell... good debut...aggressive... and good with the ball... would like to see more...at this level...
Daniel Cyrus ( sub)... looked miles better than the rest...Cyrus and Primus...should be the 2 local based CB...

Trent Noel... i like this player...and he is a good friend of mine... but trent starting to look his age...at this level...and  may be better in a 3 man midfield
Haughton Hector....The class player of the night... and i watching him since last year...I rate this player.... i like him in the middle also... so we have to keep working with him....very smart footballer....and great last name
Kevon carter... good right side option...pace for days...should be part of the mix for a while
keon daniel....started slow...but got in and did some good stuff... its the same love/hate thing with him....thought tonight he would have been given a chance in the middle....

Kerry Baptiste.... seems like  a loss of form... maybe mental...and his role may be a bit different in the national team... but very useful
Devon Jorsling... very very left footed...this man have some things to work with....

other subs

Maracano...watching him for years...good work rate..tricky.. but makes some bad decisions...
Jaggy... need to see more at this level..he started on the left...looking good... but switched to the right..and found it tougher...but good attitude and work rate...
Jamerson... i dont rate this player... never did...
Tinto... bag of tricks... impact player... what you see is what you get ( Like Hislop)

sorry Tulla Guerra did not play tonight.. I rate him...

now i know it have real Bleeder haters here... but show me a better central midfielder in tnt  ??..show me...missed tonight.. laugh if yuh want..and with the outside options of Hyland and Birchall.. well bleeder in the mix...

just thought i would share my thoughts on the players...respect

No wonder yuh calling yuhself 'oman, with all that hormonal ranting.  If nothing else the administrators on this site do a good job of objectively presenting facts, facts which are documented and provable.  If you dispute the record as presented then feel free to provide proof to support your position.  If not then take to Midol and go siddung somewhere in a corner and calm yuh facking nerves.

boss thats far from the stats ! far far !! i remember when tnt went to kingston in 96 or 97
i was listening to lance wittiker (who now lives and work in Barbados) and he was presenting
the stats for that game ,we were leading by as much as 7 or 8 games , count from that time
til now , we beat you by a ratio 3 - 1 it could be as high as 10 to 12 games ,plus the reason
u all so high on caribbean cup is because u all host it so much times .

In other words, you believe whatever stats "lance wittiker" read over the air 13 yrs ago to what's presented here today... fair enough.  That is your choice, but you still haven't produced anything to support your claim that the numbers are wrong.  All of our games are entered into a database that can be accessed here (http://www.socawarriors.net/mens-senior-team/fixtures-results.html)... feel free to take a look at it and arrive at your own conclusion.

Again... if you insist that the numbers lie then bring proof, not talk.

Oman, let's be gracious in our wins as I am sure the warrior fans would have been. As you can see BM showing Tappa nuh love and respect:

of course tapa.... know yuh place

f**k tapa

fifa.com have the head-to-head at 16 - 7 -10 in favor of Jamaica but to be fair they don't include games between the original settlers of the islands like the T&T database. So I would go with the stats quoted by the admins here.

I know that it get confusing at times when as a non trini you come on this board and get the impression that T&T is several classes above JAM in football, while that is far from the truth with the onfield production we all have to admit that the trini dem football association logo look better than ours. (Mi a try find something positive to say after the bust ass we put pon dem inna dem house!) .

So Oman, we know we better than dem for the past 10 years, but ano so we madda grow we, so mek we be nice to the less skilled amongst us.

jamaica is also a pan american silver medalist. the thing that Trinidad don't get is that just qualifying for tournaments and not getting any result at the tournaments makes no sense.

T&T won the bronze medal in 1967 and were fourth place finishers in 1971.

Back in the very old days, TnT was far better than us. In the last 15 years or so, we have reversed that.

It is now very competitive with Jam having the slight edge.

Its a real shame as a trini having to read these posts and feel proud. I am not no lover of Jamaican ball and quite frankly I only rate probably 3 jamaican players in their history but currently, I dont have any leg to stand on when comparing Jamaica to Trinidad shameful national team. When BM, who i have the utmost respct for, could say Bleeder is one of we better midfielders then T&T team in ah serious mess!! Also, the grudge thing Latas seems to have against certain players is frigin ridiculous! I need someone to confirm for me if at all, or how many times has Birchy played under Latas?

So yeh dem Jacans can come on we board and bump dey gum big time....d men who giving dem talk all d best...but unfortunately we team is garbage....bottomline! Nothing much we can do sitting on a computer to change that fact! :beermug:

i know that. Jamaica start taking football seriously about 1990. at one point i think they had 5 Caribbean cup and we had 0, but look what happen in a short period of time, 4 Caribbean cups, silver pan American ,Gold cup: 1 third, 1fourth and 2 quarterfinals. a couple of youth world cup and 1998 world cup.
and play some of the best even tho we lost:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roHkLcqHv3g

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRi415hoQOs&feature=related

and more.

still Jamaica football is not where most Jamaican would want it to be, and so i hope this will improve players technicality for the future:

Real Madrid academy under construction
http://www.realmadrid.com/cs/Satellite/en/Foundation/1193041516335/1330003900527/noticia/NoticiaFundacionRM/Foundation_opens_Academy_in_Jamaica.htm

http://www.caribbeanlifenews.com/articles/2010/04/30/breaking_news/caribbeanlife-cl_top_story-2010_04_28_ap_real_madrid.txt

and the fifa academy in Kingston

Valencia partnership
http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/sport/Valencia-FC_7505772

hopefully  the quality of football improve, along with more players playing professional overseas in big leagues.

Allyuh takin this thing too far yes. so what if we lose ah meaningless friendly to jamaica!! is the competitive games we have tuh worry bout ain't it?

for the past 10 yrs our football has been on ah seesaw, one yr we up, the next we down, in other words no consistence! the best players being excluded for fellas who can't even preform the basics, the federation meddling with the coaches and all kinda forkry, plus it still have old void of ideas dinosours still runnin we football, what allyuh expect??

i find this dominance we want tuh have over other caribbean islands, or what we think we have over other caribbeans has been long gone and is now ah thing of the past. truth is , we are worst off than any other time in our footballing history.

there was ah time when we were beating teams like mexico and argentina in major competitions when the other caribbeans  didn't have ah leg to stand on, and that continued into the early 90ies wid ah few shell cups under our belts, but now we losin to teams like bermuda in we own back yard and katchin we nennen tuh beat stkitts nevis.

for yrs i've been tellin ppl that jamaica may not have as much talented footballers like us, but they have ah winning diehard mentality that our ppl seemed tuh lack and if they continue this pattern, in the very near future they will be ah power house in the region like mex and USA!

just last yr men was talkin bout some football coop tuh dethrone the TTFF and camps, one yr later, not one single word or serious discussion bout it.

the old man even come out and say, if anybody seriously oppose him he will step down! so where is our hardcore football gurus tuh step up and put mr camps out his missery??! where's plaqe card toatin sammy nwellin, where's gally, where's shaka, where's skeen, where's brian williams, where's nakid, where's sancho and kelvin jack?? where are all camps opponents who like tuh talk bout how lousie ah job he's doing, wham they doh want the job again??

bottom line, i think we have more serious fish tuh fry than worrying bout how many times jamaica buss we arse vise versa. i think if we don't get cracking and restore some stability in the football and implement accademies for the youths as young as primery school age, we will be in serious trouble, BC it would'nt be ah T&T jamaica rivalry nah, but rather ah T&T turks and cacos and with the way we going....... my prediction? they will be bussin we arse in we own livin room.

BTW, do we even have ah primery school league anymore?
