Midfielder Kerry Baptiste met the team in Arizona. Baptiste, an invitee, is a 29-year-old striker who most recently played for Joe Public in Trinidad & Tobago.

The midfielder with dreads is all but Keon Daniel, a sporting hero in his native Trinadad and Tobago. PSP had a poster comment with a side-by-side picture comparison of the player in camp and during his time with another team. If it isn't him then Daniel has a body double. But as PSPTim pointed out here on our site, why hasn't the T&T media picked up on Daniel like it did fellow trialist Thorne Holder? Daniel is arguably one of the most known sports athletes in the small country after leading the nation in goals during its World Cup Qualifying campaign. Something to ponder.

Yeh he on trial but I not sure about Holder yet. Phili released their two goalkeepers from last year and they have 2 others right now. One from first round Draft and Modragon from Colombia that they just buy.

And I rel don't think Stern is a Columbus Crew target per se.

And I haven't seen Akeem Adams in the Sounders camp.

I know Baptiste gving it his all now and going door-to door to sell his skills.  I feel sorry for the man...but at 29, he really feel a foreign side going to sign him up now? He not going to increase merchandising and he have no resale value.

He should try A-League...he might have a chance there.

The standard of U.S soccer is not much higher than the Pro. League but it is much more competitive at all levels of professionalism, that is hard for most of our players to deal with on a regular base. Most of our star boy players forget that they still have to compete for their place outside of Trinidad.

Hector expected to trial with NYRB.
By: Brian Lewis (nypost.com (http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/soccerblog/internation_hughton_hector_expected_mCaMRCqkM0suRCuPvNCEUP?sms_ss=email&at_xt=4d73ce73a43f8ec1%2C0)).

With two weeks to go before the Red Bulls open their season against Seattle, they’re still on the lookout for talent. Midfielder Hughtun Hector may be coming in on a trial, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The 26-year-old is playing the best soccer of his career, having received all 15 of his caps for Trinidad & Tobago since 2009, and having scored all five of his international goals since last September 21.

Red Bull fans may be familiar with the winger, who helped hand them one of their most disappointing results when they got bounced from the CONCACAF Champions League prelims.

It was Hector that was involved in both W Connection goals _ scoring one and assisting the other _ when the Red Bulls were held to a 2-2 draw on July 30 at Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.

In the 40th minute Hector put in the corner that Jonathan Frias scored on, and then in the 72nd minute he scored a brilliant equalizer himself. The Red Bulls got eliminated in the home leg at Giants Stadium. Now, a source says Hector will likely arrive for a trial in-form.

His five goals made him top scorer in the domestic Toyota Classic tourney, and he scored four times in recent months for Trinidad & Tobago, and you can watch highlights of his brace in a 4-0 rout of Haiti, his Man of the Match performance capping an unbeaten run through the Digicel Caribbean Cup qualifying campaign in November.

Hector was scouted last November by Kansas City, and has drawn interest from England as well. If he does indeed come on trial with the Red Bulls, do you think a player with his pace and athleticism can impress Hans Backe and Erik Soler? Think they have enough wide midfielders? Hollat at us and share your views...

Caledonia AIA has boosted its forward line ahead of Saturday’s Caribbean Football Union Club Championship second-leg match against Newtown United FC of St. Kitts/Nevis at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo from 7.30pm with the signing of Tobagonian striker Kevon Woodley.

But while Woodley is certain to be in the 18-man squad for Saturday, Caledonia is sweating over the availability of national striker Jamal Juma Clarence who has not yet been cleared from his Turkish Club Hacettepe Spor Kulubu.

Team manager Ricarda Nelson stated: "We  have sent through all the paperwork via the Fifa Transfer Matching System (TMS) and the Turkish club is very slow in responding. “So we are now seeking advice from the T&T Football Federation as to the next step, with a view of having him released in time to play this weekend.

http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/soccer/post/_/id/7469/chivas-usa-banton-deadline-is-nigh

Fellow trialist Kerry Baptiste, a 29-year-old Trinidadian forward, is not under contract, so Chivas can take its time in determining whether he's a good fit for its goal-lite attack. He also played in the game against the Blues.

"Kerry's done all right this week," Fraser said. "He did pretty well in our 11-v-11 yesterday. He's a forward who likes to be in front of the goal, which is good, and we'll have to make a decison on him shortly as well."

Former W Connection midfielder Silvio Spann is making an attempt at a comeback on the professional circuit. Having been missing from international and domestic action for over a year, Spann was on trial with American Major League Soccer club Columbus Crew earlier this month.

Unfortunately he did not do enough to impress head coach Robert Warzycha and his trial was ended after a few days. Spann played 55 minutes in a trial game with Swedish club Malmo FF during their Florida preseason camp.

Byers among Fenwick loyalists.
ttproleague.com.

Antigua international forward Peter Byers is one of two new signings made by new Central FC Head Coach Terry Fenwick this week.

Byers, 28, alongside his Antigua and Barbuda national teammate and captain defender Troy Dublin, 22, arrived in Trinidad on Monday night to take up contracts with Central FC.

The duo was at the Ato Boldon Stadium training field by Tuesday morning for Fenwick’s third session since taking over the club last week.

Byers, who played under Fenwick at San Juan Jabloteh for a season and a half between 2007 and 2008, said his signature was sort after by another Pro League club and former rivals, W Connection, but opted to join his former coach at Central.

Connection President David John Williams confirmed that the club contacted Byers, and said, “At the time we contacted Byers, he said that a MLS club was interested in him.”

Most of them are large, a few extra large and two medium  :rotfl:

Ideally, due to budget, around 24 players. However, there will be Reserve squad players (U21's) who will also be included from time to time.

Figueroa rejoins W Connection.
T&T Newsday Reports.

COLOMBIAN-born goalkeeper Alejandro Figueroa has rejoined Digicel Pro League champion W Connection on a short-term deal until the end of the 2012/2013 season.

The 34-year-old Figueroa, who donned the W Connection shirt between 2001-2005, after brief spells with Doc’s Khelwalaas and San Juan Jabloteh, was a free agent before being recalled by Connection.

The move by Connection came after a reported verbal bust-up between first-choice goalie and ex-captain Jan-Michael Williams and technical director/coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier.

The 28-year-old Williams was axed by the club as a result and Figueroa will be challenging Aquelius Sylvester and Brazilian Murilo Da Costa for a regular spot between the uprights.

What ever happy to Anthony Wolfe ?

I know he was on trial with Malaysian Super League team LionsXII (Deers).

By Negeri Sembilan (goal.com)

After their friendly with KL SPA on Sunday, a source close to PBNS is claiming that Brazillian Fabio is favoured ahead of the much-touted former World Cup player Anthony Wolfe. This however has angered some fans who have taken a liking to the Trinidadian’s performance instead, and some unsubstantiated accusations have been hurled at a certain member of the FA. Also tested in the same match were two youth local players.

This may be a bit off base. Before leaving for work this afternoon, I switch to the French Ligue 1 on Bein sport. Game between Monaco and Toulouse in a empty stadium. Appears Monaco on some kind of suspension for crowd behaviour. Talk about weird. I hearing everything the players and coach saying. Fast pace end to end game and plenty shots on goal. But it feels like a practice match. Now I see how the local pfl feel in their empty stadiums.

Anothe rthing, I saw a young forward for Toulouse named Braithwaithe. I was wondering if he has Trini or WI roots? Anyone ?

Just goes to show how many decent Trini players are out there, but not actively pursued by Pro League clubs. These boys understand that to earn the big bucks, they have to be part of the National team set up. To do that, they must play regularly in front of Hart.
Suddenly, players are recognising the value of the Pro League.
The standard is steadily improving and our National team will also benefit over time.
The next step will be to attract some foreign internationals to the local league. This will then establish the Pro League as the top choice for players in the Caribbean.

I think João Ananias left W Connection and has returned to Brazil?

Elijah Manners from Jabloteh to Central FC.

Manners now with Sharks
T&T Express

MIDFIELDER ELIJAH Manners has left San Juan Jabloteh on a free transfer and is now with Central FC, one of four recent signings by the Sharks. Last season, Manners formed a lethal partnership with veteran Kerry Baptiste at Jabloteh.

Central have also snagged former Shiva Boys and T&TEC player 19-year-old midfielder Nathaniel Garcia, and 16-year-old Levi Garcia from Siparia Spurs. Also signing on is 19-year-old Denzil Daniel.

Recently, Central also renewed contracts for 29-year-old Trinidad and Tobago goalie Jan-Michael Williams, Tobagonian duo Rundell Winchester, 20, and Darren Mitchell, 24, and 39-year-old veteran midfielder Marvin Oliver. Zoran Vranes has been installed coach of Central FC which finished second in the Pro League last season under Englishman Terry Fenwick.

Angus Eve: Trevin Caesar’s move to San Antonio Scorpions a positive
TT Pro League Website

Trevin Caesar’s recent move to the North American Soccer League (NASL) outfit San Antonio Scorpions can be considered a huge blow to North East Stars. But for head coach of the Sangre Grande club, Angus Eve, the focus is on the positive move presented to the 25-year-old Trinidad and Tobago forward.

“Caesar is putting himself in a bigger shopping window,” explained Eve, a former T&T international and England based midfielder.

“If he (Caesar) does the work and prove himself, further opportunity of maybe a move to the (Major League Soccer) MLS or Europe could become possible. The international agent that’s handling Caesar is also seeing the move to the San Antonio Scorpions as a stepping-stone for Caesar. At present he (Caesar) is getting a better salary than in Trinidad and he is in a better shop window.”

Caesar joined the Scorpions on a one-year contract with the option for further according to Eve.

The Scorpions are also the employers of 29-year-old T&T defender Julius James and 27-year-old Dominican Republic forward and former W Connection star Jonathan Faña Frías.

Last season the Tobago-born Caesar scored 14 league goals, tallying the same as Willis Plaza (Central FC) and Joevin Jones (W Connection), and two less than leading scorer Marcus Joseph (Point Fortin Civic).

“There is no doubt that Caesar will be missed at North East Stars,” admitted Eve. “He scored the most goals for us. But we must see our league as a development league. If coaches and chairmen here just want to keep the best players here, then there won’t be any real development. I know teams want to win but the development of players must be a high priority.

“Since I arrived at North East Stars two seasons ago, we have gotten contracts for seven (7) players and we were still able to compete in the league. The bigger picture should be the development of players,” ended the North East Stars coach.

We have seen strikers such Cornell Glen and Willis Plaza leave the Pro League, which some may see as a negative for the local league. However, I believe it creates room for the next wave of T&T strikers to break through. It also gives our best performers the chance to gain experience overseas which they can bring to the national team.

With Plaza and Caesar gone, who will challenge Marcus Joseph for the Pro League Golden Boot this season? Place your bets, gentlemen.

I wish I could!! Plaza has gone overseas, and that's a massive loss to Central. When you look around for a 15 goal striker, the cupboard looks bare. Caesar gone. Joseph under contract for another year at Point. Winchester in Belgium. Who's left?

I think he would have to approach the ProLeague to get a release. I imagine, if players are not getting paid, it will be a breach of contract. As he's under contract, clubs can't even talk to him. But he's missing out on pre season, so it may be hard to join a club if he hasn't taken it upon himself to start training.

Im a little surprised that W Connection hasnt sent anyone on trial this window. Joevin and Benjamin are players that probably have value and the talent to move abroad. Maybe soccerrama can enlighten us on some transfer details.

As for golden boot i guess Marcus Joseph and Joevin Jones obviously. A dark horse could be maybe Nicholas Dillon if memory serves me correct i believe FS said he had an offer to join a championship academy but didnt want to go. He and Dwight Quintero will get time more on the pitch.

Clarke replaces Eve as North East coach.
T&T Newsday Reports.

ROLAND CLARKE has replaced Angus Eve as coach of the North East Stars football team, effective immediately.

Clarke made this disclosure on his Twitter page last Thursday and the decision was confirmed by an e-mail sent by the club’s general manager Maurice Eligon.

According to the e-mail, “North East Stars has appointed Roland Clarke as coach for the 2015-2016 season. Roland has been Youth Development Director for the past five years.”

Eve is currently in Jamaica doing commentary and analysis for Sportsmax in their coverage of the Copa America.

It is understood that the decision was made by club owner Daryl Mahabir due to financial reasons.

Eve was appointed as North East coach in June 2012, having served as an assistant to Terry Fenwick at San Juan Jabloteh and Michael McComie at Ma Pau respectively.

At the time, Mahabir was quoted as saying, “with the hiring of Angus, we feel that it would benefit not just the club in terms of being competitive, but also the younger players in terms of development. We think that Angus is one of the best local coaches that we have around and his experience in youth development is very good for what he brings at our club.”

Under the guidance of Eve, North East claimed two titles - the 2014 Toyota Classic Cup over Defence Force and the 2015 FA Trophy over W Connection, both via kicks from the penalty mark.

But the former national midfielder/striker and captain came under fire for his negative tactics, especially in the Pro League. He was only able to guide the team to two fourth place finishes (2012-13 and 2014-15).

Eve now joins a long list of coaches who have been at the Sangre Grande-based club - Victor Solomon (2002), Miguel Hackett (2002, 2008), James McLean (2003-2005, 2007), Everald “Gally” Cummings (2006), Ken Elie (2008), Clint Marcelle (2008), Rod Underwood (2010), Shurland David (2010-11) and Emerson Alcantara (2011-12).

In related news, the North East team will be conducting screening sessions at the Ojoe Road Recreation Ground, Sangre Grande from today until Friday. The sessions will take place from 10 am until noon.

The reinforcements keep coming for the Chicago Fire.
http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2015/08/06/chicago-fire-add-trinidad-and-tobago-international-defender-daneil-cyrus
On Thursday, the Fire added Trinidad and Tobago international defender Daneil Cyrus on loan from W Connection. Cyrus, 24, made two MLS appearances for Sporting Kansas City in 2011 before being injured.

"Daneil is a player we've been monitoring for a while," said Chicago Fire head coach and director of soccer Frank Yallop in a statement provided by the team. "He trained with us earlier in the year and had a number of impressive performances in the recent Gold Cup, so we're pleased to add him to our side to shore up our defensive line as we head into the second half of the season."

MORE: Chicago Fire add forward Gilberto
Cyrus has been with W Connection since 2012 but was loaned to Thai club Hanoi T&T in 2012.

On the international level, Cyrus has made 44 appearances for Trinidad and Tobago since debuting as a 19-year-old in 2010. Most recently, Cyrus started three of four games at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, including as one of three center backs on a five-man back line in the Soca Warriors' shootout loss to Panama in the quarterfinals.

Connection make “Lobo” move, Jan-Michael sees Stars and Central FC go Haitian.
By Lasana Liburd (Wired868).

DirecTV W Connection might have their eyes on the Pro League title again after adding former Central FC and Point Fortin Civic forward Marcus “Lobo” Joseph to their offensive line-up for the upcoming TT Pro League season.

Joseph’s move to his former employer’s bitter Couva rivals looks like one of the most eye-catching signings so far, although there appear to be significant changes at Central FC and North East Stars too

If Connection now have one of the Pro League’s most lethal attackers, then Stars can boast of acquiring the safest hands as new owner/coach Terry Fenwick confirmed that Soca Warriors goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams will follow him to the Arima Velodrome this season.

The Pro League is expected to kick off on Friday 26 May with a clash between league champions Central FC and Pro Bowl winners Defence Force.

Fenwick and Williams worked together when Central FC won their maiden title in the 2014-15 Pro League season. Williams went on to win two more Pro League crowns at Central before opting for a change of environment.

Fenwick, who took over at Stars last month, said the Trinidad and Tobago custodian will operate as a player/goalkeeping coach with Stars.

“Jan-Michael is still the best goalkeeper in the country at 32 and has another five to eight years left at least in the Pro League,” Fenwick told Wired868. “He is a good role model who is the type of person I want around the younger players… We want to build a competitive vibrant club around good individuals [who set] good standards for the younger players.”

Fenwick confirmed that former National Under-20 playmaker Duane Muckette and pacy winger Jomoul Francois—both under-23—will also represent Stars this season, as he freshens up the squad. But he said local football fans will have to wait until next week for more names.

“We have a very young, fast team who we will be very competitive with exciting players like Muckette and Jomoul Francois,” said Fenwick. “But I want to hold off on the other names until next week when we will do a launch at the Arima Velodrome.

“What I can say is that we have the players who will be the core of the next national team after this campaign. And we are looking to have the striking partnership of the national team for years to come in two of the players that we are bringing in.”

If Stars can boast of future talent, Connection might feel they have the tools to do the business right now.

Joseph, a former two-time World Youth Cup attacker and still just 25 years old, helped Central to the Pro League title in the 2015/16 season before falling out with the club’s management midway through the last season.

His thunderous left foot is arguably the most lethal weapon in the local game and Connection assistant coach Earl Jean thinks Joseph’s best days are ahead of him.

“I think Marcus’ talent speaks for itself,” Jean told Wired868. “He is a player that everybody is afraid of when he is on form. It is just a matter of managing him off the field.

“He is a quiet person and a nice boy and has done well so far in pre-season. He needs to get stronger and do more gym work and once he dedicates himself to the game, he will do well.

“Once you build a team around Marcus, you will get goals.”

Another new face for the “Savonetta Boys” is former St Ann’s Rangers midfielder Jameel Antoine while former National Under-20 Team winger Akeem “Froggy” Garcia is set to resume his career after almost two years out with a knee injury.

The trio will help compensate for the departures of winger Aikim Andrews and defenders Daneil Cyrus and Jelani Peters. Peters and Andrews have moved to Toronto FC II while Cyrus is still mulling over his next move.

Central operations director Kevin Harrison was cagey about his own squad and claimed that there are no confirmed departures from the “Couva Sharks” just yet. But he confirmed that Williams, former captain and midfielder Leston Paul and playmaker Sean De Silva have not taken part in the club’s pre-season preparations.

“We have still have registrations of all the players except [Philippines-based midfielder] Darren Mitchell,” said Harrison. “So until someone asks for a transfer, they are still registered with us and we expect that some players will come back [for the start of the Pro League season next month].”

However, veteran Warriors defender Seon Power, who is returning to the local game after a spell in the Far East, is one of several new faces in the Sharks squad over the pre-season along with National Under-20 defender Taryk Sampson and ex-2009 World Youth Cup forward Juma Clarence.

Former World Cup 2006 and Sunderland winger Carlos Edwards, who is on the current Warriors team, is expected to sign with Central tomorrow.

Central coach Dale Saunders still has bustling midfielder Nathaniel “Spanish” Garcia, wingers Jason Marcano and Johan Peltier and promising defender Keston George from his 2016-17 title winning team.

But Harrison suggested there will be more than a few foreign players in the Sharks squad this season. Teenaged Antigua and Barbuda left back Vashami Allen is expected soon along with talent from a range of countries included Haiti, Grenada, Britain and the United States.

“We are looking at about eight to nine foreigners,” said Harrison. “Some of them will be short-term loans who are only here for the Caribbean Club Championship. But we are looking at what we can get for our money and if you can get a foreign international for cheaper than a local, then it makes sense.”

Central’s success on the field has been tarnished somewhat by financial issues off the field. Former club captain Marvin Oliver won a case for unfair dismissal against the club, just over a year ago, while Fenwick is among well over a dozen former employees still owed bonuses.

Harrison said he was proud to see players like Yohance Marshall and Power win spots on the Trinidad and Tobago squad while at Central. But he suggested that the club suffered a lot from their policy of fielding an almost entirely local team.

“We won the Caribbean Cup with all Trinidad players [last year] but you get nothing for it,” said Harrison. “We didn’t even get a congratulations from the Ministry of Sport or people in sport. So what’s the point of banging our heads against the wall?

“We have resisted going foreign before but now we think we are arriving at the decision that Connection made five or six years ago. These [foreign] players are coming here for an opportunity to move on to greener pastures which they were not getting where they are.

“I don’t know what the standard of living is in Haiti but I’d expect there is a higher standard of living here…”

One local talent who will give Central a hand for the upcoming Caribbean Football Union (CFU) club competition is the Pro League’s reigning golden boot winner, Akeem Roach, who is on loan from Club Sando.

The CFU competition, which will be staged in Trinidad, runs from 12-21 May 2017.

Sando coach Angus Eve explained that he allowed Central to use his player so as to give him the best possible chance of breaking into the Warriors squad for their upcoming June qualifiers away to the United States and Costa Rica.

“I wanted to give Dennis [Lawrence] an opportunity to see him and give him some match practice,” said Eve. “I think the players who are based in Trinidad could be at a disadvantage because they are not getting game time now. So at least the national coach can see him [in the CFU competition].”

Eve expects that he might need a replacement for Roach as soon as June anyway. The attacker leaves for trial then and Eve, who still holds the official record for international appearances with Trinidad and Tobago, believes Roach is too good for the Pro League.

“I don’t think he should be in Trinidad,” said the Sando coach. “I think he has all the attributes as a centre forward. He is good in the air, he can use both feet, run into space, hold up the ball… The potential is immense.”

Eve confirmed that Sando have signed former Morvant Caledonia United captain and playmaker Akim Armstrong, who will act as their ‘10’ this season. And they are closed to snapping up talented Point Fortin Civic midfielder Akeem Redhead.

“Other than that, I don’t want to say anything about the rest of my squad just yet,” he said.

San Juan Jabloteh coach Keith Jeffrey was cagey about giving too much away as he is also finalising his roster. He confirmed that skilful winger Tyrone Charles, forward Jamal Gay and midfielder Keyon Edwards—all former senior Warriors players—have moved on along with central defender Aquil Selby.

Former Rangers captain and central defender Shakiyl Phillip has joined Jabloteh along with winger Julio Noel and Venezuelan flanker Jose Parra. Current Warriors international defender Carlyle Mitchell is also with the “San Juan Kings” although he is still undergoing rehab for a groin injury.

“By next week, we will have our full roster sorted out,” said Jeffrey.

The Trinidad and Tobago National Senior Team play away to Grenada on 29 April in an exhibition match at St George’s. And there might be a few more interesting local transfers after that outing with goalkeepers Marvin Phillip and Glenroy Samuel, midfielder Leston Paul and playmaker Keron Cummings all believed to be in the shop window.

This past weekend Etienne scored his club's 220th goal since being promoted to the Honduras top flight in 2014 (124th goal in the club's home stadium). In doing so, he became the 7th central defender to score for the club and only the 3rd foreigner to get on the score sheet in the club's history. He is preceded by Roy Smith (Costa Rica) and Jerrel Britto. Goal scored off a corner kick.

There is no way they have a professional contract in 4th division Czech Republic. Even the third division is not professional.

They recently got relegated, and seem to offer at least part-time contracts given they can tempt players from abroad and own their own stadium. I hope it works out for them

It's a bit of that, a bit of the partnership between QPCC and the Can Bou Play Foundation that we formed and the fact that there is an exodus from the Pro League.

A good few. About 6 or so players who won the league with North East last season are playing in the Pro League this year. If you watch the PL squads this season, even the most avid fan would struggle to recognize half the names.

Commissioner misses out as Griffith III features for Northern Ireland team, Coleraine.
By Lasana Liburd (Wired868).

Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith had to make do with a second-hand appraisal of his son Gary Griffith III’s first step towards his dream of a professional football career yesterday.

Griffith III, an attacker, featured as a trialist with Northern Ireland top flight club, Coleraine FC, last night along with compatriot and defender Jesse Williams. There was no review of how either played and they were not named in a brief match summary—although there was an independent photograph of the commissioner’s son.

Griffith had his application for vacation leave turned down by Minister of National Security Stuart Young, earlier this week, as he is expected to oversee an investigation into issues related to a TTPS raid on the controversial DSS financial enterprise in La Horquetta.

“I was planning to use my few weeks abroad to accompany him,” Griffith told Wired868. “They would be at Ipswich Town and Bury FC next week to then return to Coleraine FC. However duty calls.

“Hopefully when certain issues are dealt with at home, I may be able to drink a real Guinness and find my pot of gold in Ireland.”

Coleraine FC competed in the Europa League this season. Griffith confirmed that his son and Williams head to England next week for a brief stint with Ipswich Town and Bury FC too.

Ipswich, who play in England’s third tier at present, once employed Trinidad and Tobago international forward Jason Scotland. There is a ‘Trini’ link at Bury too, as the semi-professional team has another 2006 World Cup player, Carlos Edwards, on its books as a player-coach.

Griffith III, 17, and Williams, 18, have both represented Trinidad and Tobago at national youth level. However, while Williams is a stand-out at Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) level with St Anthony’s College and for Pro League outfit Central FC, the former is an unknown quantity locally.

Griffith III never turned out for St Mary’s College or Trinity College (Moka) in the SSFL Premier Division, although he did manage several appearances for North East Stars in the Pro League.

If he features in a competitive fixture this year, Griffith III will eclipse Levi Garcia as the youngest Trinidad and Tobago player to take part in a European top flight match.

Garcia, who now represents AEK Athens in Greece, was 18 years and two months old when he debuted for Eredivisie club, AZ, in a 4-2 home win over Feyenoord. A week later, Garcia became T&T’s youngest scorer in Europe when he came off the bench to score in AZ’s 3-0 win over NEC at the Goffertstadion in Nijmegen.

In both cases, Garcia erased records set by legendary Tobagonian Dwight Yorke at Aston Villa.

Griffith III, who is in England on a football scholarship with Sunderland College, turns 18 on 22 October. However, since he is in Britain on a student visa, he can play before his birthday—if he makes the grade.

Griffith and Williams were both members of the Men’s National Senior Team training squad under head coach Terry Fenwick, before their sessions were halted due to Covid-19 restrictions.

WATCH: Trinidad and Tobago duo Gary Griffith III and Jesse Williams talk about settling in with Northern Ireland Premier League team Coleraine FC ahead of the new Premier League Season. Both players were registered just prior to the end of the European transfer window deadline on Monday. While awaiting their work permits, they shared their message, describing their journey so far as an enlightening one and they are urging other youngsters to keep chasing dreams.

The word that comes to mind - when thinking about Coleraine and its environs - is "unfashionable". Yet, an opportunity is an opportunity.

An astute observer has noted that Coleraine FC and Avec are signatories to an apparel agreement.

It stood out to me how 'nashy' this youth was in video of the recent National team training sessions that I saw. And this have me even more concerned. Anybody here could fill me in, if they ever see this youth play, if he any good and was deserving of being a) on any previous youth national team? b) this present national team? or is this just blatant nepotism at work?

Everybody have noticed from the start. They just gave him a bligh. Partly because of his dad and they were giving him the benefit of doubt. Some very good past TT players have never played college league football. He father has shown enthusiasm and  goodwill for the game, even though he could be overbearing at times.

Griffith III, Williams might join Northern Irish club’s academy
By Ian Prescott (T&T Express)

Trinidad and Tobago youth footballers Jesse Williams and Gary Griffith III have not signed professional contracts with Northern Irish Club Coleraine FC, but may be installed in the academy team of the 2019-2020 Danske Bank Premiership runners-up, which offers a progression path to the first team.

Both national Under-20 players were recently on trial at League Cup winners Coleraine. Belfast Telegraph/Sunday Life reporter Michael Anderson confirmed that the T&T footballers remained uncontracted.

“Gary Griffith III and Jesse Williams have not yet sealed their move to the Showgrounds despite speculation on social media,” Anderson wrote, “The Trinidad and Tobago duo featured in a recent friendly with Loughgall.”

The players were recommended to first team manager Oran Kearney, who said at the time the club would monitor their progress. There is said to be some interest by the club in the players who, if eventually signed, would need both international clearance and Home Office clearance for the process to be completed.

Neither player have a senior international cap for Trinidad and Tobago, usually a requirement to get British Home Office clearance. Neither player was named when Coleraine announced its 2020-2021 senior squad, and they also were not mentioned among the official off-season recruits.

“Our summer recruits have taken the following numbers in brackets; Gareth Deane (1), Ronan Wilson (12), Evan Tweed (14) and Howard Beverland (22). Curtis Allen – who wore the number 35 jersey after signing in January – will now wear number 19, with Stewart Nixon taking number 21. Goalkeeper Martin Gallagher will now wear number 20.

Coleraine is one of several Irish football clubs going through severe financial difficulties brought on by Covid-19 restrictions. Coleraine chairman Colin McKendry says his primary focus remains on club survival.

“We need financial support quickly and the NI Football League, made representations to Stormont earlier this week,” McKendry said. “If we don’t secure additional funding, then I am not sure what will happen.”

The financial impact has seen Coleraine recently announce the restructuring of its youth programme to provide a clear pathway from the club’s junior ranks to Oran Kearney’s senior team.

“This is an exciting time for the youth footballers at Coleraine FC and the restructuring will ensure a clear identifiable pathway for progression at the club,” McKendry said.

In August, former Aston Villa and England international David Platt was appointed as the new Junior Academy Director at the club in charge of the Soccer School, seven and nine-a-side teams, and teams up to Under-15. Ollie Mullan is the Senior Academy Director in charge of U-16, 18 and 20 youth teams.

Hibernian Women secure pre-contract signing of Liana Hinds
hibernianfc.co.uk

Hibernian Women are delighted to announce that Trinidadian international fullback, Liana Hinds, will join the club from 1 July 2022 on a pre-contract agreement.

Hinds will join the club after playing for Icelandic side ÍBV Women's Football and Swedish side Sundsvalls DFF.

Liana brings a wealth of experience racking up 36 appearances for the Trinidad and Tobago national team and captaining the side in the 2019 CONCACAF Caribbean Olympic Qualifiers.

Speaking ahead of the move in the summer, Liana said, “I’m very excited to be joining Hibernian for the upcoming season!”

"I’m honoured for the opportunity to be part of this strong club with an amazing culture."

“I can’t wait to join the team and make an impact in the league next season. See you soon Edinburgh!”

Dean Gibson expressed his own excitement at being able to add Liana to his squad, saying, “This signing shows you where we are going as a club. Liana is joining Hibs at the peak years of her career. She’s a full international with 36 caps for Trinidad and Tobago.”

"We can’t wait to see what she brings to our club. As always, we are delighted, she has chosen Hibernian as her next destination.”

Liana will wear the number 7️⃣ shirt upon her arrival subject to international clearance.

Former Benedict’s standout signs for Finnish first division side.

https://fchaka.fi/uutiset/fc-haka-ja-anthony-herbert-sopimukseen/

Translated into English:

FC Haka has signed a 1 + 1 year contract with topper Anthony Herbert. The 24-year-old Herbert is from Trinidad & Tobago but arrived in Valkeakoski from St. John’s Red Storm in the U.S. University Series, where he has spent the past few years.

- Tony is a physically excellent top opener. Came to us through the American contacts for the test and was a positive surprise, the head coach Teemu Tainio explains the background to finding the player.

Herbert himself heard from his agent about the opportunity in Haka and decided to seize the opportunity.

- They talked a lot about Haka's traditions, as well as about the coach. I'm really excited about this opportunity, and I'm not really looking forward to the start of the Veikkausliiga.

- Settling in Finland has gone smoothly and the community has warmly received me. In addition to the exercises, the conditions are also excellent.

In addition to professional coaching, Toppari sees a positive competitive position in the team, where players motivate each other for the better. He is ready for the League Cup starting this weekend and sees that he will bring his own strengths to the team.

- I am a strong and tenacious defender who brings hardness and skill to the line of defense, and I also keep a voice on the field. I can also quickly turn the game from defense to offensive direction, the man analyzes himself.

Herbert arrived at Haka's test in mid-January and showed his skills in a training match against the Seinäjoki Football Club. Tainio stated that after that match, the man appeared in his favor.
