Post by: black chinee on March 01, 2011, 08:56:57 PM
Pfister set to take Soca Warriors job.
T&T Guardian Reports.

German Otto Pfister is expected to be appointed as coach of the Soca Warriors after he topped a shortlist of candidates interview recently. Over the past few weeks, the T&T Football Federation (TTFF) has been evaluating a handful of coaches for the position.

They included former Holland international Irwin Koeman who visited T&T last month to be interviewed by TTFF officials. He was followed by veteran Pfister a few days later and he also underwent the same process which included discussions as well as touring some of the local facilities.

It is understood that Dutchman Johan Neeskens was also in the running as well as former Portugal and Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz, who later opted out of the race prior to a scheduled trip to meet with local officials last week.

A source close to the situation said, “The T&TFF technical committee has made a decision to go with Pfister and contract negotiations are being finalised.

The decision by the TTFF technical committee which is headed by technical advisor Keith Look Loy, has also been submitted to the the local federation executive committee and a final announcement is expected within the next couple of weeks. Pfister is regarded as one of Germany’s most successful coaching exports, voted Africa’s Manager of the Year in 1992.

He has been to four African Cup of Nations competitions with Burkina Faso, Zaire, Cameroon and Ghana and reached the African Cup of Nations final twice, with Cameroon and Ghana.

Pfister has won the Fifa Under-17 World Cup with Ghana and also coached Togo at the 2006 World Cup Finals.During his visit to last month, Pfister visited witnessed the Toyota Classic quarterfinal match between Caledonia AIA and eventual tournament winner, Ma Pau at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella. Back then, a composed Pfister said he saw a lot of work to be done here.

The 73-year-old Pfister also qualified for 1998 Fifa World Cup with Saudi Arabia added, “I have experiences myself similar to that of T&T as I took Togo to the World Cup in Germany.

It’s a big challenge but it is possible with a professional conception,” Pfister added. On the job at 73, and having began coaching as a player coach at age 23 in Switzerland back in 1961, Pfister says working with young players, keeps him fresh and vibrant. Look Loy had also commented that Pfister’s coaching resume was remarkable, having enjoyed success in 15 countries on three continents.

“He is well experienced in World Cup qualifying and final tournaments, and has managed some of the international game’s established names. This knowledge could serve us well,” said Look Loy.

Meanwhile, officials of the T&TFF are expected to meet with Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Anil Roberts and Sport Company of T&T (Sportt) chairman, Rhett Chee Ping to discuss the financial support towards to the salary package for Pfister which is expected to be close to US60,000 a month.

Well,

The decision for Pfister was probably a good one.
The potentially underhand money issues to pay for this are disturbing.
Will be watching ...

Good choice but the money thing we can't do nothing about that it's unfortunate that the rich get richer and the poor get even poorer, hopefully there's a way out of this where situations are dealt with fairly and equitably it's been a lot of years of money woes for players.

God is good.

did we not expect there to be a big payout for a bigger name coach (bigger than Latas). I dont see what all the fuss is about. I like the old man for the job. THe real question is what kinda nickname we go give this man.

I can't take this article seriously if the TTFF filing for bankruptcy because they can't afford to pay the players their interim bonus payments much less their full bonuses once/if the proper accounts are produced as ordered by the court!

In my opinion this is another red-herring distraction by the TTFF to fool dotish people!!
Can’t take anything serious from the TTFF until proper accounts are produced and the players are paid!

Pfister must know what's going on with the TTFF by now, he not that dotish or desperate and would have done his research!!

I don't believe we should used this man wealth of experience to be the head coach, T.D is better for the long term future of TnT.We know all to well that we are not going to get the results we all would like in the near future and then we get rid of him because that is what our history shows.Stuart Charles for head coach,Terry Fenrick Asst, coach Clayton Ince goal keeper coach.

Good talk! If the powers that be actually had a vision for the sport they would spend as much time and effort selecting TDs and development officers as they would a head coach. But as Shaka said, they can't see past their nose and could only think in terms of the next world cup.

so what is being planned for Pfister when i takes over? Jamaica will be flying in Venezuela on the 25th for a game, you guys might want to ask Burrell to allow you to join in for a Triangular tourney (although it looks like Venezuela might not approve - looks to have a game three days later)

Tired of 'red  herrings' dis is like a frigging

Characiformes    Erythrinidae    Hoplerythrinus cinereus    native        Waubeen

I read where this candidate was the only one to  suck TTFF arse by being willing to adopt a fully local staff to work with...and to work with local coaches.... well at 73 I eh think this man have enough partners who want to risk  football suicide to come in TNT and take directions form the TTFF.

If this is indeed the  case we in for more of the  same kaka.... 2014 coach 76..... come nah TTFF wake up and move into this era of football. If yuh moving desperate, might as well bring back BSC.
Title: Local staff for foreign coach

Local staff for foreign coach
By Ian Prescott (T&T Express)

A totally-local technical staff will work alongside a foreign coach when Trinidad and Tobago appoints a staff for the senior national football team.

Yesterday, Keith Look Loy , the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) technical adviser, confirmed that the process to select a new Soca Warriors head coach is complete. He further disclosed that a recommendation was made to the TTFF Executive Committee. But Look Loy hesitated to confirm that 73 year-old German Otto Pfister was selected as reported in the media.

Look Loy instead said he did not want to preempt a decision of the Executive Committee, who will make an announcement shortly.

"I can confirm that the screening process is over," Look Loy said. "We have made a recommendation, and we are hoping that a prompt appointment is made. All that, of course, depends on Government approval of funds for the compensation package for the coaching staff.'"

Look Loy, who headed the selection committee, reported that five candidates were considered. The screening committee had face to face interviews with Pfister and Dutchman Erwin Koeman, and telephone interviews with Johan Neeskens, Carlos Queiroz and Ruud Krol. Queiroz has since taken up another position. Look Loy said that during the selection process, the foreign candidate had the option of bringing their own people.

"Everyone was invited to do that , and all wanted to do that except for Pfister, who wanted to work with young local coaches," Look Loy said. "He was prepared to work with an entirely local staff. Apart from these men, other persons had submitted applications and we have made recommendation for the position of assistant coach, goalkeeper coach, trainer and so on," he said.

Hmmm. Not a good start. If he thinks Twitter is the way to influence TTFF behavoir, this may be bumpy ride. "stay quiet"? Who does this guy think he is? I'm not a TTFF apologist but he is doing the very same thing he is accusing the TTFF of doing. This may get interesting.

Absolutely horrible decision hiring a 73 year old man for a 4 yr cycle. And the amount of money being paid, as others have said, is a clear slap in the face to the players who fought so hard to get paid.

At 75 years old A Pfist full of dollars in the last phase of a qualifier and the last game to go Brazil 2014. T&T is positioned in fourth place concacaf playoff, need a draw, the match is 0-0. One minute remaining in injury time and the attacking team is deep in our half. A major decision by the assistant referee at that moment against the warriors could be very catastrophic for the coaching staff.
