Keon Daniel joins Philadelphia Union.
Phillysoccernews.com.
Philadelphia Union has signed midfielder Keon Daniel. Daniel first turned pro in August 2006 with United Petrotrin of the TT Pro League, the top division in his native Trinidad and Tobago, following a training stint with English Premier League club Manchester United.
Two years later, the T&T international trialed with EPL club West Ham United, but instead joined TT Pro League side Caledonia AIA in May of 2009.
The 24-year-old then joined the Islanders in June of 2010, scoring two goals and adding two assists in 16 appearances last season to help lead the club to a League Championship as an eighth seeded team in the playoffs.
Daniel, who joins fellow countryman Thorne Holder on the Union roster, has also had a distinguished international career with eight goals in 46 caps after debuting in January 2008 at the age of 21.
He recently led the Soca Warriors with four goals during 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying, the same number as MLS stars Landon Donovan, Brian Ching and Álvaro Saborío.

Sorry but I have never considered Keon anything other than a club footballer. I truly hope i could be proven wrong but, to me , he is more of a liability than an asset on our national team. Oh, btw, even at central midfield. And, all the best at Philly Union.

Nah...5
Great news!!! All the best Skilla!!!
-
keon is a good player but has 1 major weakness, he is a defensive liability. Hopefully he fixes that part of the game otherwise he will be riding pine all season or even worse, back home in the pro league. He also needs to improve his stamina, cannot play more than 70 minutes.

I now have a reason to go down to Chester Park Union and Red Bulls is my new team in the MLS.
-
The thing with mls teams is they really work on fitness big time and if he doesnt step up they'll dump him ... if they could slap him a few times n wake him up he'll be good ... I really hope he does well!
New mls team to back.

Exactly! Our local players (and I blame the coaching staff) seems to have no clue of what fitness and strength really means. Players should be in the gym every day, with detailed workout plan and diet plan. Professional sports is serious business but we have not figured that out yet.
-
Is not the coach alone. It is the organization. If the organization pore money into the team and buy the training facilities, then you will see results. Teams still cap in hand. What is the deal with Palo Seco, Point, Marabella Flames. They don't have money. Show them the $$$$$$$$$.

Well look i have more reasons to go see Philly play, first Thorne now Keon...Goin and look for tix. Who on de forum livin in Philly? Message me if alyuh goin and show some support

Fan’s take: Keon Daniel signing strengthens Union
By Mark Paul (Yahoo! Sports)
Already with a number of exciting signings since last year, the Union continue to upgrade themselves. Faryd Mondragon, Carlos Ruiz, and Carlos Valdez were the high profile signings for the Union in the offseason. All three made contributions during the season opening victory against Houston. Now, the Union are even stronger thanks to the signing of international star Keon Daniel.
Daniel is coming off of a stint in Puerto Rico. However, Daniel is much more famous for his appearances with the Trinidad & Tobago national team. He has played 46 games for the national team. During World Cup qualifying in 2010, he netted four goals for his team. That equaled the number of goals scored by the most popular American player, Landon Donovan. He led the team in goals during qualifying. Daniel has also trained with English Premier League teams Manchester United and West Ham United. Clearly, he has vast soccer experience.
At 24 years old, Daniel fits the youth movement made by the Union this season. For a team with playoff potential, Daniel provides a boost to the midfield unit. He is fast and athletic. He can also score and defend. It may take Daniel some time to break in with his new team, but he will add significant depth. The Union face Vancouver in their home opener on March 26th. It is unclear if Daniel will get playing time in that game. However, expect the team to play him before long. The Union are already off to a hot start this season. Before long, Philadelphia will notice how good this team is. With signings like Daniel, the team is showing that it is building a smart future. Expect this club to be strong for a long time.

and defend too ? Well ok, Hire that Peurto Rico coach for TT yes, if we cyah get he, get KD press agent. Whoever, get/motivate the youth to cross that hurdle, that is the man we need for the whole program. :o
-
this man dont even try his best and yet making teams looks easy for him.hopefully they let him take free kicks, unlike TnTwhere carlos insists on taking hem all. That could make him a fan favorite in a hurry.
-
my lasting impression of keon daniel's ability is the england friendly at HCS where he played left wing. i remember thinking that it was the best left wing performance i saw on our national team in years. i think he got the west ham trial after that too. i was never as impressed by him after that but it showed what he is capable of.
-
Too much spranga and glad man vibes wid we footballers, to eradicate dat and geh ah serious level of professionalism is a serious challenge. Look like KD makin de step up, at least according to de article
