You are so right !!!!!

With the curfew, I find games should be scheduled for Sunday mornings, is not like we get crowds anyway and not only this but the move would only be temporary, at least the players would have their games spread out when the league resumes and not try and cram everything in a short space of time...

What logic you going to use when Army and Police can't play?

What logic you going to use when Army and Police can't play?

If they can't play, they can't play, you seem to know all the answers or your contributions is minimal as you nit-pick on every topic, black is black, black cant be blue.... I cant think for them coops, if it was me, I would have done something, instead of sitting and waiting for something to happen... I dont get paid to run the league... !!!!

In anycase, what is great is that 2 teams cant compete, so we still down to even numbers, other games can go ahead with their schedule games and reschedule the DF and Police games for later, they have no choice....

Or better yet, postponed the pro league games and start it in October instead and run the other cups like the First Citizen or FA Cups, this way DF and Police will still have a better chance of competing because games are not run regularly as a pro league game. DF is defending champs, they will be seeded in such tournament...

And who taking about teams who cant compete, we talking as far as fixtures/time goes.

JP pulled out of the league after the fixtures were made.

OP and Rangers deal collapsed after the fixtures were made.

There were uneven teams in the league (9) before the news above. Now is down to 8 with JP out....

So logically...

I remove JP and rename QP.

I also added the BYE team in JP's place.

Spoke to Russ Russell yesterday. He said DF obviously have had their preperations effected, but would play as soon as their men were released. But I don't see how DF and Police will have their men available unless they go straight to work after the games, which is a big ask.

As it stands, it appears that North East will be playing T&TEC at 5pm on Friday, which is a difficult time. Judging by last years super fridays, people didn't arrive in numbers until the second half of the first match (around 7pm), so with the after work & school traffic, Macoya at 5pm will be tricky.

On the plus side, Pro League gave out a few thousand promotional leaflets at the Balls of Fire event under the title "Super Fridays just got cooler" Promotions include 4 people and a cooler for $100. ladies free before half time of the first match, and there will be promotions and giveaways, as well as DJ.

Personally, 5pm and 7pm on Saturday would be a better option and maybe just one match at 7pm on Friday.

Regarding DF & Police, they could miss matches now and catch up during the cups. Once a team is knocked out, DF & police could play them midweek. It will take a bit of organising, but thats what the League is there to do!

Finally, people have to remember that clubs have to pay wages and other costs while projected income from matches in August hasn't been received. The only income aside from sponsorship is gate money, so this needs to be subsidised until matches start. A full house at Macoya should generate around $30,000 for each of the two home teams, so clubs are already looking at a shortfall of maybe $60,000. Of course, that will even up once matches are played, but meantime bills still have to be paid!

Post by: Football supporter on September 09, 2011, 08:45:32 AM
Defence Force and Police F.C. have been refused permission to play their opening Pro League matches.

DF were due to line up vs Caledonia at 7pm tonite at Marvin Lee stadium. The first match, North East Stars vs T&TEC will still go ahead, although frantic discussions are in place about moving the kick off to 6pm. The Super Friday has been heavily promoted, with Caledonia incurring expense as they were due 50% of the gate. It is hoped that some kind of pre match entertainment may be provided as supporters will be arriving from 4pm.

Paranoia creeping in here, but if Warner was still involved with football, you think this would happen? What difference would 30 police and 30 soldiers make to the SOE, particularly before curfew? In fact, it would have been a positive PR exercise. Now theres another barrier between the public and protective services.

On the flip there would be the perception that with the current SOE in effect, football should not be a priority at this time.

Just a matter of comment on the divergence in views that may be expressed.

Well Rowley brought it up in Parliment that there was a Police Football and Basketball team playing in the Police Games in NY... so you know... they can't make themselves look bad like that. Even though disrupting the TT Pro League for 3 months (and who knows how long) might look just as bad. I say kick them out and let some Super League teams take their place this year.

Weary, I have to disagree with you about the Asst Ref (Miss Mohammed, I think) I was watching in the Wi Sports commentary box so had the luxury of replays. She made some excellent offside calls. They may have appeared wrong, but she was observing the passive/active rule very well. When Jones scored for WConn, he realised his striker was offside and took the shot. The striker was in an offside position, but was passive. Later, when WConn scored a third goal, the original play saw the striker in a passive offside position, but when the second phase took place, he became active and therefore the goal was disallowed. I was very impressed, but I think she is a FIFA registered ref.

However, I did feel the ref shouldn't have awarded St Anns the penalty. A striker dipped his head to the ball as a defender went to kick it. I'd say it was 50/50 but ref gave a pen, and McFarlane wasted the kick with a poor pen that was easily saved.

Fixtures changing all the time. SOE is causing postponements of matches involving DF & Police. Also, cup competitions coming thick & fast! Draw for First Citizens Cup is tomorrow (Weds) and matches to be played at weekend. Will update here once draw is made.

Can you guys please post all your info, news articles and updates on the T&T Pro-League in one thread preferably this one?!

I am getting tired of going all over the board to find info on various Pro-league games!
Much like we have dedicated threads for posting info, results for popular English Premiership Clubs, etc, I think we should have a dedicated thread for posting info, results, etc for the T&T Pro-League!!

So please post Pro-Leage info, results, etc in this thread and save me & others the trouble and headache!!

Many thanks

Why do I get the felling heads will roll after today's gave- North East Stars v Caledonia AIA.

I see Caledonia winning this game 3-1.

Youth goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel is a good option for North East Stars to invest in.

I am surprise that the majority here voted for North East Stars winning the league.

I really hope Joe Public draws them in the FA Cup.

Too late, mate. Heads have already rolled! Your 3-1 prediction is valid. However, it may be that Cali will be focused on Fridays semi finals and won't want to get involved in 50-50 challenges etc. North Easts task is simple....play fast aggressive football. There are 20 Pro League games left this season, so form can be regained!

2-1

Sylvester Teesdale open d scorin fuh T&TEC in d 1st half...den Kareem Young equalized in 1st half. So its was 1-1 at d half. Afterwards Caledonia got a penalty in which i think it was Young again who converted it fuh d 2-1 win. Overall both teams played ok at times..knockin d ball about d park..both teams made silly mistakes at times but i'd say dat T&TEC played d better game. However, congratz AIA!

Caledonia finally lifts the First Citizens Cup.
ttproleague.com.

Kareem Joseph first equalized for Caledonia AIA in the first half before converting a second period penalty to help the Morvant/Laventille club lift the 2011 First Citizens Cup for the first time with a hard-fought 2-1 win over T&TEC FC on Friday night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

The Final was nothing less than an intensifying one from the kickoff whistle.

T&TEC backed by hundreds of supporters decked in their yellow and accompanied by its rhythm section got the opening item in the 15th minute when Sylvester Teesdale converted an easy task of blasting into an open net for a 1-0 advantage.

Midfielder Andrei Pacheco, who had an earlier shot just wide of goalkeeper Zane Coker's upright, unleashed a low shot on goal in a set piece play and the Caledonia goalie fumbled on the attempted gather before being muscled off by Kurlon Ferguson who tapped a pass to Teesdale for the item.

However Caledonia leveled the scores 1-1 in the 26th minute when Joseph picked up a pass on the right after making one of his supporting runs on the rightside and blasted a shot past Akini Adams from outside the top corner of the penalty area.

The keen contest continued and Caledonia's Micah Lewis should have had his side in front by the 35th minute when he was played on the right by a Mekesi Lewis throughball with only goalkeeper Adams to beat, however the T&TEC goalie was quick to close down play blocking out the effort.

The half ended with the 1-1 scoreline but the intensity continued even in the second period which saw a superb freekick by Pacheco measured with an acrobatic push behind by Coker in the 57th minute.

The 2001 and 2007 defeated Finalists Caledonia then got what turned out the match winner in the 65th minute when Joseph converted from the spot on the left of goalkeeper Adams for the 2-1 score.

Caledonia won the penalty opportunity after Micah Lewis went to ground inside the area and assistant referee Dion Neil signaled the decision early.

Caledonia introduced the quick legs of Tobagonian forward Trevin Caesar replacing Mekesi Lewis just over the hour mark and the U-23 player didn't take long before having an impact.

Caesar had to be denied by goalkeeper Adams in the 73rd minute after picking up a pass on the right and racing into the T&TEC area and in the 79th minute he attempted a shot on goal from distance only to see it well overbar.

While T&TEC substitute Bevon Lewis who replaced Kerlon Ferguson in the 78th minute was fractions off from scoring and assisting in injury time.

Lewis, coming off a groin injury which saw him miss the leadup games to the Final, headed inches overbar from a Teesdale corner and a minute later his low pass across the six yard area was just shy off meeting another substitute Daniel Garcia's boot, in what could have been a late equalizer.

5:00pm, T&TEC 2  Teesdale (2) v  0 W Connection, Hasely Crawford Stadium

Both goals in 2nd half. Pretty even game. Jan Michael Williams and Akiel Adams both made some ok saves. Jerrel Britto missed a sitter after some nice work. Winchester didn't look as sharp as usual. To be fair, if the result was the other way around it wouldn't be wrong. The only difference was finishing. Not a bad game considering torrential rain in first half.

7:00pm, Caledonia AIA  31 San Juan Jabloteh, Hasely Crawford Stadium

Didn't see 2nd game, but it shows how close and unpredictable the league is this season!

Question for the football law experts here:

Is it compulsory to have a 4th official?

Oh, by the way....North East were very poor vs Caledonia. Looked like a completely different team to the 10 men who drew with T&TEC 3 days ago! Cally had a player sent off around 55 mins, but Stars still couldn't take advantage  :pissedoff:

Left before half time in the Jab vs St Anns match. Jabloteh looked really good. Couldn't believe they lost!

No food or drinks on sale until 2nd half of NES/Cally. No entertainment provided either!

I was there also, I just can't believe the Pro League admin operate so good in some areas and then very poor in some.

I am also very disappointed in North East Stars, they are not a bad team and I know Sancho and company are trying very hard, they play so inconsistent, but I predict they will improve.

Cant believe Police won a game, I think there first in 2 years.  :rotfl:

Your fete side needs entertainment to win ?  :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

The funny thing is, if no food is being sell at the games and your boss owns a fried chicken business why not jump on the opportunity and have Japs mobile at games ? do I have to think for you guys too or is Sancho just liming in every Xmas party he could find, Carnival is next, more parties to crash.

My prediction was on spot again, Caledonia win, now they are heading to Guyana for a mini tournament while North East will be pranging.

This is why Joe Public was a top team, we took care of business and will be back soon. I observed NES carefully while JP was the still in the league.

NES missing piece to their puzzle is to much hands in the soup and the players are not 100% committed because they are not on the same page. NES should hire Terry Fenwick and let him to his job, not intervene like they normally do, Sancho and Mahabir is to much involved in everything.

Even the fans from NES is fading, not like they use to have.

Some good points (unusually for you, but of course, written without thinking, which is usual).

This was Caledonia's home game and they and Jabloteh arrange concessions and entertainment. Japs was not invited! Even if they were, with no promotion and 4 teams from the East playing in South, poor attendance was expected. Your comment about entertainment, while being facetious, does have a serious point. Even JP provided entertainment at games, as well as a bar and consessions. Although, strangely, JP always run the bar at Marvin Lee, even when they are not involved in matches. I think I may look into that to make sure JP have a written agreement with the stadium and pay a hiring fee.

Yes, Mr Shabazz has arranged for free flights, accomodation and stipends for his players to attend the tournament in Guyana. I'm sure if other teams received such benefits, they too would attend. However, they have requested 3 NES players to attend, so they can't be that jokey. Not sure how many JP players have been invited? Oh, I forgot, JP don't play in a real league, so I guess they won't be invited.

You're right about Sancho & Mahabir...the last thing we want is people behaving like the Warners. Fenwick would be great, but he has his own plans, none of which include JP.

In all fairness, JP are a good team and its a shame that young Mr Warner tried to mash up the ProLeague by withdrawing them. Their biggest problem is their owners using them for personal reasons and people like you (yes, I know who you are) giving the team a bad reputation.

6th January  Larry Gomes Stadium

T&TEC 1 - 1 St Anns Rangers

T&TEC controlled first half having multiple goal opportunities, but spilling them all. St Anns struggled to clear the ball from defence, often just getting the ball as far as the T&TEC midfielders to start another attack. T&TEC seemed to be playing 4 2 4 with the inclusion of Kerry Baptiste up front. St Anns 4 4 2 formation seemed to have a disappearing 4 in midfield. Their passing was poor and they relied heavily on a route one counter attacking plan, with no use of wide players. Maybe some of this was due to Nesbitte being missing.

Once St Anns attacked, T&TEC defence looked a little shaky, as they have all season, despite only conceding 7 goals in 7 matches, 4 of those against Jabloteh. The best chance of the first half fell to St Anns, but the left footed shot went well wide of Marvin Phillips post. It was a warning to T&TEC who had many missed chances and the lack of clinical finishing would prove costly. Pacheco looked good going forward, but his end product was poor. Similarly, both T&TEC and St Anns corners were poor, seldom beating the first man and Modestes effort going straight behind the goal.

In the second half it was much of the same initially. Kerry Baptiste found room at the back post but could not deliver, then seconds later hit a 20 yard rocket against the bar.

There seemed to be acres of space in St Anns right back position and eventually T&TECs breakthrough came from there with a ball threaded through traffic to Baptiste who finished well after a great first touch to control a wet spinning ball.

This should have been the catalyst that saw T&TEC score a hatfull, but instead St anns went to a 4 2 4 formation with the introduction of Hector Sam who made an immediate impression. T&TEC were now boxed in and under pressure with St Anns suddenly finding forward momentum.

There was confusion when the referees assistant flagged for an incident in the box. The ref didn't see it, but awarded a direct free kick from the edge of the 18 yard box. Really not sure what that was about, but there were yellow cards shown, I think to both teams for arguing.

As the pressure built, it looked like time had run out for Rangers as the 4th official signalled 4 minutes of added time. Then, after another spell of pressure, a St Anns player went down in the box, the ref didn't blow, then a second Rangers player hit the turf. The ref blew for a penalty, for what I believe was the first challenge which provided no subsequent advantage.

Devon Modeste netted his 5th goal of the season from the spot and was promptly booked for taking off his shirt in celebration. At the final whistle, a red card was shown to a T&TEC player, probably for foul language or arguing with the ref.

Not a bad game. Result lifts St Anns 1 point above North East who play tomorrow. T&TEC may go top on goal difference, but W.Connection could change that if they win.

A lack lustre North East Stars had a lucky escape versus Defence Force at Larry Gomes Stadium when the lights went out and the game was abandoned.

Some very heavy tackles early on by the Army team should have been punished with yellow cards, one resulting in U23 national striker, Kaydion Gabriel having to be replaced.

North East surprisingly took the lead against the run of play when Anton Wolfe converted a penalty. However, it appeared the referee was overruled by his assistant when he awarded a free kick on the edge of the North East box, only for the referee's assistant to point to the spot. After a long protest by both teams, a penalty was awarded and converted by Defence Force.

It was 1 - 1 at half time, with the army team looking much stronger. In the second half, Defence Force scored early and then made it 3 -1 despite good defensive work by Seon Powers and Charles Pollard.

It looked like Defence Force would enjoy their momentum, when suddenly, the floodlights went out after around 65 mins. After some confusion, it appeared that a main circuit board had blown and the game was abandoned.

So it would appear that all of Defence Force's effort was in vain, as the match must be replayed.

It now raises concerns over Larry Gomes Stadium as there is due to be a Pro League match there on Tuesday, 2 Reserve Team fixtures on Wednesday, a Pro League double header on Friday and another Pro League match on Saturday.

With Hasely Crawford Stadium out of action and Marvin Lee Stadium out of favour, it will be interesting to see  how the Pro League will deal with this

Caledonia 1 - 2 Defence Force

Defence Force started brightly, possibly encouraged by their performance in the abandoned match vs North East Stars on Saturday. Caledonia, coming off the back of 4 straight wins, including a 3-2 victory over Defence Force, looked slow out of the blocks, spending most of the first half on the defensive. Surprisingly considering they were fielding top goalscorer, Devon Modeste as well as goal scorer extraordinaire, Devon Jorsling, Cale looked impotent going forward.

The Army team missed several good chances with Baltazhur looking particularly hungry for goals from midfield, having several good chances. However, it fell to Richard Roy to open the scoring with a lucky goal bundled over the line from 2 yards....although I'm sure he would justify his Mueller-esque goal by saying that a good striker makes his own luck.

Caledonia only really had 2 efforts in the first 45 minutes, rarely being able to force their way into the Army's half of the field and they appeared to be very lacklustre, with little movement off the ball. Defence Force looked good for their half time advantage, seemingly challenging for every ball.

As the teams came out for the second half, it looked like we would get more of the same, with the Army team out early and raring to go, while Caledonia drifted out onto the field, not looking at all like a team who could top the table if they won (if only for 2 hours, with Jabloteh playing at 6pm). But Coach Shabazz must of inspired them, for when the whistle blew, we saw an entirely different game from the first half. Playing with a 4-2-4 system, Caledonia pinned the Army down like a lepidopterist with a butterfly. Defence Force found themselves defending against wave after wave of corners, free kicks and shots.

However, Caledonia, despite being a free scoring team, with 13 goals in 9 matches, had conceded 12 and despite all of their pressure, the games second goal went to Defence Force, when goalkeeper Kevin Graham  failed to deal with a rare second half Army cross and the ball was deflected into the net.

Despite the 2 goal deficit, Caledonia gamely pressed on, winning a penalty, which Kareem Joseph slotted cleanly past Kevin Graham (Yes, both keepers had the same name!)

The penalty signalled a frantic last 15 minutes, which saw the Army team once again pinned into their own half. But some solid defending saw them maintain their lead to give them their first victory of this campaign. Such was the frustration of Caledonia that on the final whistle, one of their players hoofed the ball from the half way line behind the far goal, which promptly earned him a red card, to round off an unsatisfactory day for the Morvant team.

Sorry, mate, have been in meetings all day, then at LGS. You should go to ttproleague.com to get most information (its usually up to date)

Police drew 1-1 with Defence Force. Army has a gazillion chances and Police just relied on counter attacks. But they scored first. DF kept piling on the pressure. Now, there was some officials who didn't turn up so there was a stand in assistant referree and no 4th official. Consequently, at full time, no one had a clue how much added time there was. But there didn't appear to be any long injuries, so it was surprising that the game continued, passing 95 minutes. In the 96th minute, Ross Russell jnr (a second half substitute) scored a fantastic overhead kick to equalise.

Although DF had the best of the game, their finishing was remarkably poor, and I sympathised with Kelvin Jones team who defended stoutly.

Second game, St Anns vs Caledonia saw Cale again fail to have a good first half. St Anns looked very good going forward with lightning attacks down both wings. Some exciting football, mainly from St Anns. Unfortunately, I left at half time with the score 0-0.

This is a very important time for the clubs as the top two teams on 31st Jan will go straight to the CONCACAF Champions League group stages. All teams (except DF and Police, who apparently can't qualify) have to have played 13 matches. I've heard that Coach Russell is determined to get into the top two places and challenge the League to be allowed to compete. The reason, alledgedly, that DF & Police are not able to compete is because there is no way they can have played 13 games by 31st Jan.

TTEC worker electrocuted
By AZARD ALI & STACY MOORE
NEWSDAY
Wednesday, January 18 2012

A TRINIDAD and Tobago Electricity Commission (TTEC) employee was electrocuted yesterday in Penal while working on overhead high-tension lines. Dead is Gary Wendell Patterson, 43, a linesman with TTEC. He was killed while standing in a bucket elevated 20 feet from the ground by a hydraulic truck along the Penal/Quinam Beach Road. Patterson is the second worker to die whilst working on TTEC poles.

The incident happened at about 11 am along Penal/Quinam Beach Road and TTEC’s health and safety personnel on the scene yesterday, immediately began conducting an investigation into the worker’s electrocution. Patterson’s death brings to four the number of linesmen who have been killed within the past nine months. Last week Samuel Ownsu, 35, of Montrose, Chaguanas, died when he fell into a trench while installing braces on a TTEC pole close to Power Gen’s compound in Port-of-Spain.

In an immediate response to Patterson’s death yesterday, TTEC stated that the commission had taken a decision to revisit its safety rules and procedures throughout the company’s operations in an effort to reinforce safety.

Yesterday, a spokesman from the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union said that safety was at risk at TTEC and the union would be addressing linesmen outside the commission’s offices on Cipero Street, San Fernando.

Referring to the death of Patterson and Ownsu, the spokesman said, “The OWTU has been complaining about safety risks to especially linesmen. Four deaths in almost a year, is too much and we will be addressing the workers tomorrow morning in San Fernando.”

Villagers along the Penal/Quinam Road where the incident occurred, said they saw a sudden burst of blue flame from the top of the pole, and the electricity in their homes went immediately out. They saw Patterson slumped into the elevated yellow bucket. His fellow linesmen who were on the ground assisting him in the installation of a new Air Break switch, looked on in horror.

TTEC’s Corporate Communications Manager Annabelle Bransnell, in a media bulletin, stated that safety measures which protect linesmen working on a live wire, were in place to protect workers at the time. “However, an immediate investigation has been launched to ascertain what occurred in this situation,” the media release stated. Patterson was from Robert Village, Tableland, and had been in the employ of TTEC for the past eight and a half years in the southern area.

When Newsday visited the scene yesterday, six of Patterson’s grief-stricken fellow linesmen who were working on the ground at the time, sat together on a log under a tree next to the pole.

Patterson, affectionately called “Boye”, was the father of Shantel Patterson, 19, and when Newsday visited the family at Worrel Road, the teen said she was writing an examination at school yesterday when she received news about her father’s death. Patterson’s mother, Phyllis, 67, said, “My son left to go to work 6 o’ clock this morning. His wife is a teacher. I got a phone call this morning that my son was burnt. I didn’t know it was serious. But then a neighbour came across and said, ‘Boye burn bad and he dead’.”

South T&TEC workers protest co-worker's death
By Susan Mohammed (Express).

TRINIDAD and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) workers in San Fernando walked off the job yesterday to protest the death of co-worker Gary Patterson, who was electrocuted on Tuesday while at work in Siparia.

President of the Oilfields Workers' Trade Union (OWTU) Ancel Roget who led a protest outside T&TEC's south office at Cipero Street, San Fernando, called for a meeting with T&TEC's board of directors to address safety rules and concerns to avoid more deaths.

Roget told T&TEC employees: "There will be no hotline work at T&TEC until we are certain that it is safe. Don't go inside. No truck will leave this yard. This is an instruction from the OWTU that there will be no normal operations at T&TEC until we meet with the board of directors".

Patterson, 42, of Worrell Road, Robert Village, Tableland, was electrocuted while working on an electrical line at Penal/Quinam Road, Penal on Monday.

Patterson was in the "bucket" of a hydraulic lifted elevated 20 feet off the ground, and installing a new Air Break switch when he was burnt. The electrocution happened at around 11 a.m.

Patterson was employed with T&TEC for eight and half years and was assigned to the Southern Distribution Area.

He was very active with the football teams as he was manager of Team T&TEC football squad, assistant manager of T&TEC pro league first team, and manager of the company's youth football team.

Patterson's brother, David, was also employed at T&TEC, and his father, Lionel, is a retired employee of the company. Yesterday, co-workers of the dead man cried openly during the protest.

"We are not in favour of whom they have appointed to deal with this investigation. We have had three fatalities in five months. In T&TEC there is a culture of not treating safety properly" Roget said.

A release from the Minister of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development, Errol McLeod, stated yesterday that he will be conducting a closed-door meeting regarding the management of occupational safety and health issues following media reports of a fatal work-related accident involving an employee attached to the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC).

The meeting will comprise of three representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA), three representatives from the Oilfields Workers' Trade Union (OWTU) and five representatives from T&TEC.

It is scheduled to take place on Friday at the Ministry's Head Office, International Waterfront Centre, Tower C, Level 6 (Conference Room), Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain from 11.30 a.m.

Nah man....I was wiped out after spending 3 hours in the hot sun putting black bags on seats! Think I got sunstroke!!

Caledonia 1 - 1 Police  This puts Cale top of the League, I believe.  Usual Police tactics of heavy defence and counter attacks. Cale had many opportunities. Not a bad game.

N.E.Stars 1- 1 D.Force  Pushes Stars above Rangers on goal difference. Very even first half. Army took the lead from a very lucky goal. Minutes later, Army scored a superb team goal which was ruled offside, but it looked good to me. This woke up North East who launched the ball upfield and won a penalty. Wolfe scored after having to retake his first penalty. After that, good pressure by Army. North East kinda hung on for the point.

NB: I hope this won't appear biased but I think it is not correct to play league games when players are not available thru International duty. North East were without 4 first team players and I'm sure the other 3 teams who played also had missing players. Its a non FIFA day, so clubs could refuse. If its decided to play ALL league teams should play without a full squad. The four teams who didn't play now have, or did have,  the luxury of selecting their strongest team. Added to that, those players who played on sunday only had one days rest. I don't have a problem with the matches being played, I have a problem with not all teams playing with depleted squads!

Police were all over North East in first half, who had 3 players suspended (Charles Pollard, Anthony Wolfe and Kendall Velox). Then came an inspirational substitution by Alcantara, bringing off right back, Jellies, moving Passion to right back and bringing on Drogba to give more width. This changed the game and allowed North East back into the game.

Pro League debut for Daryl Trim of St Anthonys. Difficult game for him to start with as he was lone striker, but good performance.

Went up in de Larry Gomes and took in St. Ann's Rangers vs Defence Force and first half of the Cali v Jabloteh..

To be honest, the quality on show in the first game was somewhere between aight and real poor.. Plenty bad passes, slow intensity, bad trap and miskick was the order of the day.

St. Ann's Rangers fielded a mostly young side. The right back and the right sided midfielder both look like they was 18 years old max and was trying their best but you could see the inexperience. The rest of the side was mostly lightweight players, the only two players that look like they had some quality about them was a central midfielder with a tie up dread and Roget, the red man in the forward line.

The one moment of brilliance came from Roget that led to the opening goal. Aerial ball played into the box, Roget chest traps to the right with a marker on his back and unleashes a venomous volley up in the V's.. the keeper get a small hand to it but was never stopping that. A very good goal.

Defence Force on the other hand is a setta heavy set men and was beating Rangers in the physical battles. Defence Force have a central midfielder #31.. Now the man have some touches eh, but the man is a frankoment fat man.. When i say fat man, i not talking thick or rotund, i talking about a belly that stretching jersey and he running with a waddle (picture how a penguin does walk).

The Richard Roy fellah up top who play against Finland last week and Kevon Carter aint really impress me at all, is really just a pounds scene with them men. The goal he score was off a through ball which should have never gotten thru Rangers defence.. He take one touch to check inside the defender and slap home.. Then Defence Force get a penalty that shouldn't have been when the forward pulls the Rangers defender to the ground, obvious foul but then the bemused Rangers defender from the ground pulls down the DF forward in the box and the ref points to the spot.

Other than that the game was pretty blaah.. My only other observation was that the officiating was horrendous, i actually recognize the referee as i had a run in with him a few years ago playing bank league and saw him doing Eddie Hart league games... A stocky ref with some kinda fassyman mannerisms who is always a problem. Could not believe he actually officiating pro league missing a whole setta simple calls like hands, ball gone out and fouls.

Was only able to stay for the first half of the Cali v Jabloteh game... A gulf in quality between this game and the first, alot of intensity, speedy play and hard tackling.

Cali started out bright in the first 10 mins or so and scored when the Jabloteh keeper parried a shot from outside the box and Gay gets first to the rebound and knocks in from an acute angle with keeper and defender bearing down. But then Jabloteh settle into the game and dominate Cali pressing them in their half of the field. Cali only outlet was long balls to Gay and the other forwards and hope.

The Jabloteh goal was all about the through ball from Marcano. Didn't realize it was Trim who got the goal but excellent pass to set it up.

Standout player for me was Jason Marcano. Skillful and busy on the right wing and hustling the game hard. Looking better than Tinto for the national team. Also, Plaza was creating problems in the box and Oliver despite not having the legs is class in terms of how he reads the game, makes room for himself and distributes the ball.

Roopie not ready yet for first team. Only trained once so far! Think he may get a run in Reserves on Thursday at Ato Boldon. No good throwing him in at the deep end....he may do well, but he could also drown and that will damage his confidence!! One step at a time, Sam!

Nice report dinho.

Last year I saw Army play right before they went to the CFU cup and they was awful, they were slow, de transition play was slow and they were playing a stupid long ball brand with no idea who to pass to, they play a one target man type of football, like a typical T&T national team under a local coach. They big and strong and slow, in my days men like that would get chew up by small fast men.

I am happy they not represent T&T this year in the CFU, I believe W Connection would do much better.

Defence Force was great in de 80's when they had the power to buy all the good players, today, they are not the same, Ross Russell is a bleddie joke.

Ah glad North East Stars back on track, big up to de boys. Trim, Rochford, Kevin Jagdeosingh, Roopie, Drogba, Andre Marchan (you should buy him) and Jeromie are some nice young talents to build the future on, all you need now is two solid youth defenders.

Some good SSFL players to sign woulsd be Dwight Ceballo (St Anthonys), Shackiel Henry (Presentation Sando), Qwesi Weston (Shiva Boys), Kern Roberts (Arima), Christopher Morgan (Scarborough), Nicholas Marcano (St Augustine), Nicolas Castellanos (El Dorado), Dwight Quintero (El Dorado) Akeem Garcia (St Augustine), Moriba Ballah (St Anthonys) and Garvin Samaroo (St Anthonys).

St Anns 2-1 North East Stars

They say there are turning points in games that can win or lose a match. They say individual errors can cost you a game, they talk about makeshift defences. These statements may have some truth and may have some relevance to this game, but probably more apt is the one about a team "just not wanting it enough", or perhaps "the other team wanted it more".

Rangers started brightly and scored a decent goal after 4 minutes. Maybe the Stars defence were asleep. They would point to a second consecutive game without their regular defence who have proved steady all season. Forced into changes through yellow card suspensions, the defence was indeed makeshift.

Rangers second goal will probably be a video classic. Glenton Wolfe rolled a 20 yard backpass to the keeper, who under no real pressure let the ball under his foot and into the net. Did the ball bobble? Who knows?

Kaydion Gabriel found himself receiving a 30 yard pass in acres of space at the edge of the 18 yard box, but misjudged the ball and the chance went begging.

Second half saw Stars come out with a little more fight, perhaps reminded that on Tuesday they overturned a 2-0 half time defecit to win 3-2.

Winning a deserved penalty, Anton Wolfe, who has been steady from the spot all season, blasted the ball over the bar. It was that kind of night for the Stars.

Gary Glasgow, back from a 4 month injury lay off, produced some magic out wide and his shot from 20 yards on 85 minutes set up a final flurry for North East. From some hectic goalmouth defending by St Anns, a Rangers defender nearly gave Stars an equaliser, but thye ball hit the post and bounced out.

Rangers played well enough to deserve the victory, while North East, though unlucky, really didn't deserve even a draw. With such a good squad, some serious work is needed in the North East camp.

Police 2 - 4 San Juan Jabloteh

Briefly, Jabloteh bossed Police from the start and probably could have scored more in the first half, but seemed to relax. In the second half, Police were more organised (as seems to be their pattern). San Juan never seemed to be in danger and this could well have been a practice match, such was their relaxed attitude.

North East Stars 1-1 T&TEC

Those people who say the Pro League is boring should have seen this game. The difference in league points was not apparent tonite as both sides gave 100% in a brutal battle. Certainly it was true that Andre Marchant in the Stars goal had more to do, but the game was very even and the outcome could never be guessed even in added time.
When the deadlock was finally broken with a well taken goal by T&TEC's Bess, it only seemed to ramp up the tempo and set up the second half nicely. There was the usual baffling decisions from the officials and superb support from the T&TEC fans, who look certain to take the best supported club title away from North East. However, it was noticable that the T&TEC supporters frustrations in the second half began to backfire on their team as they failed to increase their lead in the face on strong pressure from the Sangre Grande outfit.
Ryan Stewart was the midfield dynamo that kept North East ticking and in a surprisingly long period of added time, it was Stewart who stepped up to take a free kick from the edge of the box. His previous effort failed to bend enough to hit the target and T&TEC's keeper, Clayton Ince was always going to be hard to beat, especially from a free kick. However, Stewarts shot curled around the wall only to smash into the far post. Quickest to the rebound was new Brazilian striker, Jeronimo Wendes De Souza, and his delight at scoring on his debut was apparent when, after being smothered by his team mates, he ran to the touchline to embrace his coach, fellow Brazilian, Emerson Alcantara.
That was virually the last kick of a game which took nearly two hours to complete, and the final whistle was greeted by boos and jeers from the T&TEC supporters who clearly felt that North East had received the so-called Man Utd treatment from the referee.
All in all, a draw was a fair result, but I must say, the atmosphere at this game was the most like an English game that I have experienced in T&T, even down to the rather hostile attitude of the home supporters, which made you well aware that you were ournumbered and far from home.

Hmmm...maybe 300? Thing is, they were very vocal as opposed to 300 neutral spectators. Many wore T&TEC polos. This is what is needed to develop for each team...T&TEC were supporting their "community". But its a lot easier for them as they have many employees already supplied with polos etc. Army and Police should also have that advantage, but don't capitalise on it. When Army play Police ot T&TEC, there should be 1,000's there!

So, the real story in this so called FA tournament, a tournament that is trophyless at this point, is the progress and performance of the Scarborough Secondary School team and in particular one midfielder by the name of Christopher Morgan. I have never seen him play but from what I am reading this kid is supposed to be very talented. How does this kid look so far in the trophyless tournament?

Jabloteh 2-2 St Anns Rangers

San Juan started hot 'n' fast with Oliver scoring in the 2nd minute. Jabloteh were completely superior and Plaza added a second, with a powerfull header from Olivers cross on 16 minutes. Although Jabloteh visibly relaxed, they missed several good chances to make it 3-0. Rangers also spurned good chances to claw their way back. Macano was looking busy for San Juan, but Hector Sam was by far the most dangerous striker, causing problems right across the Jabloteh defence. His canny knack of winning fouls however did not result in any goals.

When the teams came out for the second half, Jabloteh continued their relaxed style. Unfortunately for them, Rangers had upped a gear. Relatively early in the second half, Rangers scored and Modeste, who had not impessed as much as Sam, slotted home a penalty to make it 2-2 on the hour mark. From there, Rangers were in control, with Jabloteh hanging on for the draw.

Caledonia 3-2 North East Stars

After a fairly even first 25 minutes, Caledonia took the lead with a well taken goal. However , Brazilian import, Jeronimo Wendes De Souza equalised with a brilliant goal to end the half at one goal each. North East Stars came out of the dressing rooms late, but started with more belief. Ryan Stewart put the Grande side in the lead with another nice goal. It looked like the Stars would remain in control, but a speculative pass/shot made its way unaided through a penalty box full of players and ended up in the far corner of North Easts goal. This then gave Caledonia impetus and a well taken third goal gave the Eastern Stallions the 3 points.

Two very good, exciting games and, again, you have to wonder why there wasn't thousands rather than hundreds at the game. Hats off to Caledonia, who produced a matchday programme, albeit a photocopied 10 page booklet, which was distributed free of charge. Its such a shame that more people don't get themselves to these games.

Watch out for a Caledonia/North East rematch on Sunday at Larry Gomes for the F.A. Trophy match.

OK, its not Pro League, its F.A. Trophy!

Caledonia 1-1 North East Stars
Cale won 4-3 on penalties.

Fairly mundane first half. Cale took the lead from a deflected shot at around 30 mins.
Second half was much more exciting with North East pushing hell for leather for the equaliser. It finally came from a corner when Wendes headed towards goal and Anton Wolfe redirected the ball to equalise. From then it was all North East with Caledonia hoping for a second goal from the counter attack. It was noticeable that their coach was not present, as they clung on to the draw. North East hit the upright with a Ryan Stewart free kick and Jeromie "Butters" Williams smashed a 20 yarder against the bar. The Caledonia supporters were praying for the final whistle as The Sangre Grande outfit forced corners and free kicks, but could not increase their goal tally.

1-1 at 90 minutes meant penalties.

North East missed their first kick, while Caledonia scored. Anton Wolfe stepped up to score with the Stars 2nd effort while goalkeeper Marchan saved to make the scores 1-1 after two kicks each. Up stepped Wendes, but his confident attempt went wide of the post. If it had gone in, it would have been a cocky, arrogant masterpiece, but unfortunately it was an embarrassing miss. Caledonia scored their next 3 penalties and although Stars scored their remaining kicks, it was the Eastern Stallions who progress to the next round.

Noticable tonite by their absence:

Caledonia Head Coach, Shabazz.
Gateman to charge supporters (have TTFF so much money they don't need the entrance fees?)
Not a single advertising board. So, where is the marketing?

And finally, it was only this morning that the clubs were informed that the 4pm kick off had been changed to 6pm.

You couldn't make this stuff up!

No mate, sorry. TTFF has no info on their prestige tournament, although they do mention that Sunderland's Lee Cattermole has been suspended for 4 games!

I'm not sure there was even a TTFF rep at the game, as there was certainly no gateman, no concessions, no entertainment and no marketing or promotions.

W Connection eyes Pro League lead.
By: Nigel Simon (Guardian).

W Connection will be keen to shake off its T&T Football Federation FA trophy semifinal loss to Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA when it takes on lowly Police in a re-scheduled Digicel T&T Pro League encounter at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella from 6 pm today.

In another re-scheduled match, last year’s champion, Defence Force which still has an outside chance of retaining its title comes up against Adam’s Construction San Juan Jabloteh at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, also from 6pm.

Currently, league debutants T&TEC under coach Dexter Cyrus, lead the eight-team table with 35 points from 18 matches and three outstanding league games to complete its campaign.

While W Connection is two points back in second spot followed by Caledonia (32points), which has played a match more and Defence Force, fourth with 26 points and four matches outstanding.

A win for W Connection will see the three-time league champions reclaim top spot on the table for the first time in two weeks, however, the task for the “Savonetta Boys” will not be an easy one with four first timers in Shahdon Winchester, Joevin Jones, Jomal Williams and Leslie Joel Russell away on national Under-23 duty as well as having to play its third match in five days.

Speaking on the eve of the match with Police, which had a 2-1 win over W Connection in the league already this season, David John-Williams, owner of the Couva-base club said his club intends on winning the league and his players will be ready for the challenges that lie ahead.

“We have a number of guys away with the Under-23 team and this has seen our squad dwindle down to a bare 20 players so we have to rotate the players wisely as we head into the home stretch of the campaign.

Commenting on his team’s busy schedule over the past few days, John-Williams, whose club has already qualified for the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship said, “We played North East Stars (4-1 win) on Friday, then Caledonia (1-0 loss) yesterday (Sunday) in the FA semifinals and now we will be playing Police tomorrow (today) followed by T&TEC in a top-of-the-table clash on Friday so it will be asking lot of our players but we are confident they can do the job.”

Down at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, Defence Force boosted by its 3-2 FA semifinal victory over WASA, also on Sunday will also be keen to pick up maximum points against Jabloteh, which has been eliminated from title contention.

W Connection is still ahead by one point, however T&TEC has two matches left & W Connection one.
T&TEC plays Police on Tuesday 27th March & Caledonia on Friday 30th March whilst W Connection plays Police on Friday 30th March so the race for the title goes down to the wire with 3 teams in contention (T&TEC, W Connection & Caledonia).
T&TEC though has the better chance as they need only 4 points from their two matches.

T&TEC within one point of lifting Digicel Pro League title.
ttproleague.com.

T&TEC FC moved within a point of lifting the 2011-12 Digicel Pro League Championship this week by smashing a 6-1 comeback win over Police FC on Tuesday night at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in a rescheduled Round One Match Day Two fixture.

The Pro League debutants jumped to the top of the standings with 39 points, two points ahead of W Connection (37 points), with just one match day to remaining on Thursday and possess an untouchable goal difference of 18.

The T&TEC result also bumped third positioned Caledonia AIA (35 points) out of the race for the title, while the battle remains between the ‘Electric Boys’ and Connection.

Connection faces the wounded Police from 8pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium following DIRECTV North East Stars meet against St. Ann’s Rangers from 6pm at the Couva venue in the final League match-day on Thursday.

And at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium Defence Force takes on Adam’s Construction San Juan Jabloteh from 6pm followed by the highly anticipated Caledonia, T&TEC clash from 8pm.

Caledonia will definitely be hunting maximum points with the hopes of a runner-up finish, just as last season, while the Dexter Cyrus coached T&TEC will believe his side is well polished for a big finish coming off Tuesday’s contrasting victory over the ‘Lawmen’.

Police FC opened the scoring in just the 3rd minute when Dexter Alleyne latched onto a throughball behind the T&TEC defence and slipped a shot past goalkeeper Marvin Phillip for a 1-0 advantage to shock the ‘Electric Boys’.

However T&TEC turned up the power and Guyanese international Vurlon Mills registered his first of a hattrick in the 13th minute beating goalkeeper Adisa Alleyene from inside the area to level the scores 1-1.

Referee Michael London then awarded T&TEC a questionable penalty in the 27th minute when Brenton De Leon headed a crossball back onto the arm of Police wingback Errol Charles.

After a bit of delay with London having to settle a few agitated players, midfielder Kevon Neaves converted past Alleyene for a 2-1 T&TEC advantage.

And in the 45th minute, Jamal Ayres smashed in T&TEC’s third item from the left against a hapless Alleyne for a 3-1 score at the break.

Police tried to get back into the game in the second period with midfielder Kareem Young flashing an effort over in the 49th minute and moments later Noel Williams unleashed a good effort wide of the upright from outside the area.

On the hour mark from a good buildup by police, T&TEC goalie Phillip kept out an excellent effort by the ‘Lawmen’.

T&TEC reminded Police which team was in charge by adding a fourth in the 62nd minute, with Mills getting his second, and a fifth in the 70th minute from substitute Bevon Bass.

Mills then tried an audacious chip against Alleyne in the 90th minute in a one on one situation which the Police goalie came out on top.

But Mills finally got to his hattrick in the third and final minute of added on time from the penalty spot after Alleyne upended Bass inside the area denying the midfielder a goal scoring opportunity.
