It's interesting to note that T&T is 4th in all time list of countries with highest number of sub-10 sprinters and that all but one of our sprinters who have achieved sub-10s are still relatively young & active!!
Men 100m Sub-10s By country
(All time list, only legal sub-10s are counted)
=============================
Nation => No. of athletes with sub-10s
United States => 37
Jamaica => 11
Nigeria => 8
Trinidad & Tobago => 5
United Kingdom => 3
Canada => 2
France => 2
Ghana => 2
Cuba => 1
Namibia => 1
Barbados => 1
Saint Kitts & Nevis => 1
Australia => 1
Bahamas => 1
Qatar => 1
Netherlands Antilles => 1
Antigua & Barbuda => 1
Zimbabwe => 1
Norway => 1
----------------------------------------------------------------
Total of 19 Countries with 81 Male Sub-10 Athletes
====================================
NB: I will do my best to keep stats up to date as new male athletes around the world run legal sub-10s.
And of the T&T athletes with legal sub-10s, Ato Boldon (who is now retired) leads the pack with 28.
T&T men sprinters with 100m Sub-10s
(only legal sub-10s are counted)
Name of Athlete ::::: No. of Sub-10s => Sub-10s Breakdown (Time, Windspeed, Location & Date)
Ato Boldon (http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=tri/athcode=9066/index.html) :::::::::::: 28 => Please see breakdown posted by fLaSh lower down in thread.
Richard Thompson (http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=tri/athcode=206487/index.html) :::: 8 => Please see breakdown posted by fLaSh lower down in thread.
Marc Burns (http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=tri/athcode=177492/index.html) :::::::::::: 3 => Please see breakdown posted by fLaSh lower down in thread.
Keston Bledman (http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=tri/athcode=208570/index.html) ::::::: 1 => Please see breakdown posted by fLaSh lower down in thread.
Darrel Brown (http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=tri/athcode=170098/index.html) :::::::::: 1 => Please see breakdown posted by fLaSh lower down in thread.
So T&T currently has a total of 5 athletes with 41 sub-10s between them.
Who else is going to join them? :thinking: ______
NB: I will do my best to update these stats as more T&T sprinters around the world run legal sub-10s.
You can also click on athlete's name for link to their IAAF bio.

http://www.atoboldon.com/hotstats
Please note I also intend to update individual athletes sub-10 breakdowns for both the USA and Jamaica to this post in due course after I have compiled and confirmed all the information!
This thread is to discuss which of our current crop of T&T men sprinters are most likely to increase their number of sub-10s or to become new members of the Sub-10 Club between now & Olympics next year.
Please also help with any information you can provide as to the actual sub-10 times, windspeeds, locations and dates for all the T&T men sprinters who are members of the 100m Sub-10 Club so we can add to their sub-10 stats information above!
We would also like to discussion which one of our current sub-10 sprinters in your eyes has the ability to fill Ato's shoes in the gobal medals and sub-10s department before their career is over!!
Many thanks for your help & participation guys!!

Imagine that, tiny TT with 5. If we want more, WE have to do a better job of nuturing.

Which of our current crop of sprinters are going to seriously try to challenge Ato's position as the number one T&T sprinter and holder of most number of sub-10s in our athletics history?
Or which ones do you consider has the ability to at least challenge Ato's record but need to get more serious and work much harder?

How is he doing? Haven't heard of him a long time... he seems like the best young male sprinter yet i've never seen him go to the carifta games.

tremendous return this year ...if you recall he had raced unbeaten in his age group for years . he got injured I heard lasty year and returned this season ....he is young and has great potential .....his final leg in a 4x100m relay still evokes laughter ....someone posted it on this forum awhile ago but I was there ...... he got the baton miles behind the leader on the last leg and came flying ...the crowd started to roar and the final leg runner looked back to see what all the noise was about ...he was after all so far ahead ..well when he looked front he must have been able to tell what colour boots John Mark was wearing . It seemed almost impossible to catch someone that far ahead in a last leg .....you have to see it to believe it ...maybe someone can find it and post it .. it was during the season before the last ...it was termed unbelievable in the post ...

Don't understand why Constantine opted out of final!
Was he carrying an injury and being cautious? Otherwise it just doh make any sense!!
He looks a bit on the small side for a prospective top 100m sprinter though but he might be better suited for the 200m! Anyway too early to judge, need to see more of him first!!
How old is he now? Ah guess he's still growing and will put on more size?!

Btw Keelz, this one:
there ya go
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pv7kTxPVr0
is already posted in Young T&T Track & Field Prospects thread;
And I have just added this one:
this was from the recently held hampton international games,,his last yr u17 e had to step up to anchor the u20 4x100m
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnEhx5Ta6p8
to the Young T&T Track & Field Prospects thread as well at this link: http://www.socawarriors.net/forum/index.php?topic=55027.0
Btw I need to clarify that the intension of this Men's 100m Sub-10 thread was really for us to post mostly T&T sprinters who have achieved 100m Sub-10s and preferably with videos of them doing it.
If one of our sprinters is a good Sub-10 prospect but is yet to run a Sub-10 then lets not jump the gun by posting them here in this thread, instead they should be posted in the Young T&T Track & Field Prospects thread at this link: http://www.socawarriors.net/forum/index.php?topic=55027.0
Best regards guys and keep them coming! :beermug:

There's absolutely no doubt that Jamaica is the no.1 sprint country in the world on the men's side right now courtesy of Bolt, Asafa, Blake and all the rest of top male JA sprinters!
In above list JA has 39 of this year's legal sub-10 times, the USA has just 12 of this year's legal sub-10 times! France has 4 of this year's legal sub-10s all courtesy of Lemaitre. T&T has just 2 of this year's legal sub-10 times courtesy of Thompson & Bledman with one each!
Well done to JA, a small island in the Caribbean Sea literally running things in Men's sprinting & driving the Americans into a distant 2nd position! It's now our job as well to over take the Americans!! ;)
Is Trinidad & Tobago capable of similar success to JA in sprinting in 2012?
I believe so if all of our current sprinters who have already achieved legal sub-10s work harder and step up to what they are capable of!
I would like to see all our T&T sprinters clocking regular sub-10s during 2012 in build-up to the Olympics.
It will no longer be possible to win a medal at Olympics or even to make the final if you are not capable of running a sub-10 as and when required!
It will be serious business in 2012, so let’s hope all our sprinters put in the required work and will be up to the task! Also hoping they all remain healthy & injury free!! I think once they all do that then we should definitely be able to medal again in the Mens 4x100m relay as well as contest for a medal in the Mens 100m final at the London Olympics!
-
Looking at the stats above for the number of Sub-10s for 2011 ran by the top male sprinters, it is interesting to note that Yohan Blake (http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=jam/athcode=208640/index.html) who ran 8 sub-10s (same number as Powell) this year placed 1st in the Worlds 100m final, Walter Dix (http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=usa/athcode=195974/index.html) who ran just 1 sub-10 this year managed to place 2nd in the Worlds 100m final & Kim Collins (http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=skn/athcode=20646/index.html) who ran 0 sub-10s this year somehow managed to place 3rd in the Worlds 100m final!! Based upon above stats Bolt with 5 Sub-10s & Powell with 8 sub-10s would have both contested with Blake for the gold medal had they both run in final (i.e. if Powell was healthy & Bolt had not false started) and it would have been a Jamaica 1-2-3 in the Worlds Mens 100m final! Whether this was a "Golden Opportunity Missed" by Jamaica to claim a historic 1-2-3 in the mens 100m final at a major championship, remains to be seen!
Its interesting that these stats seem to prove that the number of sub-10s male athletes run next year in the build-up to Olympics will give a good indication of how they are likely to perform and place in the 100m final at the London Olympics barring drug-bust, injury or false-start disqualification!
Let’s hope all our male T&T athletes take note and train hard enough to put themselves into proper sub-10 shape but it’s also important for them to stay healthy, avoid injury & to peak at the right time for London Olympics!!

Leader of the Men's 100m Sub-10 Club gets University Chancellor's Medal....
Asafa Powell to receive UTech's 2011 Chancellor's Medal
Published: Friday | October 7, 2011
André Lowe, Jamaica Gleaner Senior Staff Reporter
Former Prime minister and current chancellor at the University of Technology (UTech), Edward Seaga, yesterday announced that former world 100 metres record holder and the athlete with the most sub-10 seconds 100m times, Asafa Powell, will be the 2011 recipient of the university's Chancellor's Medal.
Powell, who will follow in the footsteps of his coach Stephen Francis - last year's awardee - has registered 74 times under 10 seconds over the 100m; the most by any athlete.
Seaga praised Powell for his perseverance over a career of rich accomplishments, and also shared that the presentation will be made next month at the launch of Dennis Johnson's book on UTech's sporting success, with 400m hurdles great and four-time world record holder Edwin Moses set to be in attendance.
Special athlete
"We feel that he (Asafa Powell) has made his mark despite the ups and downs in his career; that he has made a mark that will be indelible in the history of track and field," Seaga said during a function at Lillian's Restaurant, located at UTech.
"We feel we should not let that record pass without saying to Jamaica and the world that we honour him as a very special athlete," Seaga continued.
"I want to congratulate Asafa for his outstanding work and his perseverance," said Seaga. "Nothing in sports can be done without perseverance. You may accomplish something one or two times, but if you want to sustain what you have accomplished, you have to persevere."
Powell, who is looking to continue where he left off last season with the 2011 Diamond League 100m title firmly secured, was thankful for the recognition and described it as a source of motivation going forward.
"It's a great honour for me because at times us athletes need a bit of reassurance to show that people still appreciate what we are doing, and this is showing that all my good work over the years is appreciated, and I'm feeling very good about it," Powell responded.
The athlete had an up-and-down year, winning the Diamond League 100m title and being responsible for the second-fastest time over the distance over the year, with 9.78 seconds. He was, however, forced to sit out the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, after failing to recover in time from an injury.

A Look at The 'Greatest-Ever' Men’s 100m Field
by Neil O. Clayton, posted on 10/15/2011
At one point or another, sports fans are inundated by the question of ‘greatest ever’ or ‘best ever,’ when an analysis of outstanding athletes comes up for discussion. Muhammad Ali is said to be the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time. Some say Sugar Ray Robinson is, hands down, the greatest boxer of all time. Is Tiger Woods the best golfer of his generation? These questions may never be answered satisfactorily, but they are worth probing.
Who is the greatest 100 meter runner of all time? That question cannot be answered adequately because eras, equipment, altitude, track condition, nutrition, and technology dictate how well each ‘greatest or best’ measures up against the competition.
In a series of analyses, I will succinctly review the achievements of some of the singular best athletes in a featured event and determine who the victor would be, if they competed in the same race, all things considered. One point of note is that a world record holder might or might not have claimed the top prize in a head-to-head contest against equals, considering the foregoing determinants.
Loaded with Superlative Performers
The men’s 100m, arguably track’s premier event, has been historically loaded with superlative performers, some of the greatest sprint tacticians of all time. From world record holders to Olympic champions to World champions to world number-ones, we have been fortunate from time to time to have witnessed some classic encounters. Nonetheless I have narrowed this elite list to an eight-man field, which stands head and shoulders above all comers.
The dream field includes former World champion, Olympic champion and world record holder, Usain Bolt; Bolt’s compatriot, former world record holder and owner of a collection of the fastest races ever run, Asafa Powell; 1972 Olympic sprint double champion Valeriy Borzov from Russia; former American record holder and 2007 World sprint double champion Tyson Gay; former Olympic sprint double champion Carl Lewis; former Olympic and World champion Maurice Greene; former Olympic champion Bob Hayes; and disgraced, dethroned former Olympic champion Ben Johnson from Canada, complete the formidable field.
There is great respect and admiration for the achievements and accolades of other standouts, including the great 1936 Olympic sprint double champion, American Jesse Owens; the redoubtable Silvio Leonard from Cuba, who was unbeatable during his heyday in the 1970s and 80s. Also left out of consideration are Jamaicans Nesta Carter, number four fastest of all time and his team mate, Steve Mullings, rated among the top eight fastest men in history, former four-time European, Commonwealth and 1992 Olympic champion, Britains’s Linford Christie and former world record holder, the 1995 World champion and 1996 Olympic great, Canadian Donavan Bailey, who proved to be one of the most sensational sprinters of his time but he had a relatively short career at the top.
Who Wins
At his best, Bolt wins this tantalizing contest; he is tremendously powerful and towers over the field in every sense. His notoriously slow start would be no hindrance to victory as his nine-foot stride length would be telling in the closing stages of the race. Added to that, he is a big meet performer. Ben Johnson at his imperial best is, pound for pound, the class performer of this field. Built like a machine, he had a great start, and could match anyone with his immense top-end speed. As a result of the performance-enhancer convictions, he did not realize his full potential. He finishes just behind Bolt. I believe Bob Hayes would finish third here. Hayes’ win in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic final in 10.04secs must be one of the finest 100m races in history. With track improvements, a greater emphasis on his nutrition, in short, with the advancement in technology available today, Hayes’ time would probably not be considerably far off of the current world record of 9.58.
Maurice Greene finishes fourth, but only with a lifetime best effort. Asafa Powell takes his customary fifth place (as he did in the last two Olympic Games), with Tyson Gay finishing sixth. Carl Lewis and Valeriy Borzov bring up the rear. Both Lewis and Borzov were terrific athletes, but in a field which includes only the incredibly best, they do no better as Lewis was a notoriously slow starter and Borzov, though a terrific world beater, fares no better than eighth. Note that Borzov ran a PB of 10.00secs, an outstanding time which remains a fine performance today. Significantly, almost 40 years later, he would have taken the silver medal at the 2011 Worlds, losing the gold medal by a mere 2/25 of a second.
-
The above article proves why the devil is in the details. The man ends his piece by comparing a 10.00 race 39 years ago with a wind behind it to a race in 2011 run into almost a 2.0 headwind, saying Borzov would have been competitive. Complete nonsense. Borzov would have been where the other 1970's sprinters would be in the World Championship finals this year - about 8m back. Oh, and the fact that somehow Ben drug-free would have been this amazing sprinter (the drugs stopped him from LIVING UP TO HIS POTENTIAL??) Uhm, Ben could Bench 400+ and Squat into the 700 range. That doesn't happen clean. What did he run when clean again? About 10.0
This is the ridiculous argument Marion still bandies about.
Thanks to fLash for the sub ten details. I and all forgot some of the 28's locations and situations.

The men's 100m dash in the trash can! (http://www.trackalerts.com/Articles/the-mens-100m-dash-in-the-trash-can/13907/)

Start of London 2012 Olympics 100m Final featuring the world's best sprinters
As far as I’m concerned, the men’s 100 meter dash is going in my trash can! There are too many super star Track and Field athletes (men and women) that deserve more attention, than who’s who in the men’s 100 meter dash! My focus right now, is going on other stars, like Allyson Felix, Sanya Richards Ross, Machel Cedenio, Ajee Wilson, Jasmine Stowers, Elaine Thompson, Jenna Prandini, and Kirani James etc.
I’m tired of wondering when and where the likes of Usain Bolt, Justin Gatlin, Asafa Powell, Tyson Gay, and a few other sprinters are going to meet. My mind is pretty much made up, that it won’t be until the World Championships in August, that I can expect to see them run against each other anyway, so why continue to write about them in May!
The women’s sprinting and other events have garnished (WRONG WORD USE “ATTRACTED”) more appeal this year, than the men’s 100 meter dash! When Justin Gatlin ran 9.74, was Asafa Powell Tyson Gay or Usain Bolt in the race? (NO)! When Asafa Powell ran 9.84, was Justin Gatlin, Usain Bolt, or Tyson Gay in the race? (NO)! Now Usain Bolt is going to run the 200 meters in Ostrava, is Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay or Asafa Powell in the race? (NO)! Asafa Powell is going to run the 100 meter dash in Ostrava, is Usain Bolt, Justin Gatlin or Tyson Gay in the race? (NO)!
But look at the women’s 100 meter dash in Shanghai, when Blessing Okagbare won the race, was Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce, Tori Bowie, Veronica Campbell Brown, and Michelle-Lee Ahye in the race? (Yes) When Kirani James set the world leading time in the 400 meters, was LaShawn Merritt in the race? (YES)!
This past weekend, at the Prefontaine meet in Eugene, Oregon, Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards Ross clashed over 400 meters! Now that’s two super star track and field athletes, who seem to be flying under the radar, with so much attention on the men’s 100 meter dash this year! That’s what I love about Allyson Felix, she’s fearless, and doesn’t duck anybody! Allyson will take on Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce at her specialty the women’s 100 meter dash, and she’ll take on Sanya Richards Ross, at her specialty, the 400 meter dash!
I think that’s one of the reasons Allyson Felix is the only woman in history to win US national titles in the 100, 200, and 400 meter dash!.
I also think that’s one of several reasons Allyson Felix is so beloved around the track and field community, not only because of her humility, but Allyson volunteered to join PROJECT BELIEVE, along with a few other athletes to take extensive blood and urine tests other than those mandated by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)! In military terms, that’s like going above and beyond the call of duty!
From this point on, up to the World Championships, the men’s 100 meter dash is in file 13, the trash can! My attention will be solely on all the other super star athletes who are willing to compete against each other, well before the World Championships!

Chronological list of the sub-10 club (http://www.jonmulkeen.com/blog/athletics/chronological-list-sub-10-club-100m-sprint/)
Published 8 June 2015 (JonMulkeen.com)
(http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p12/Socapro/Marvin%20Bracy%20of%20USA%20wins%20Mens%20100m%20as%20Adam%20Gemili%20of%20GBR%20pulls%20up%20with%20injury%20at%202015%20Birmingham%20Grand%20Prix.jpg) (http://s124.photobucket.com/user/Socapro/media/Marvin%20Bracy%20of%20USA%20wins%20Mens%20100m%20as%20Adam%20Gemili%20of%20GBR%20pulls%20up%20with%20injury%20at%202015%20Birmingham%20Grand%20Prix.jpg.html)
Marvin Bracy of USA wins Mens 100m as Adam Gemili of GBR pulls up with injury at 2015 Birmingham Grand Prix.
When Adam Gemili clocked 9.97 in the 100m in Birmingham last weekend, there was some confusion over whether or not he became the 100th member of the sub-10-second club.
Some stats sites listed him as the 102nd member, others the 100th, the 101st, the 103rd. You get the picture.
It’s exactly the kind of minutiae that keeps me awake at night, so I had to sort out a chronological list of all sub-10-second performers (based on their first ever such performance) to determine once and for all who is in the club and who is out.
It didn’t take long to see the source of the confusion; there were three debatable performances, none of which belong on the list.
Some sites credit Ben Johnson with a 9.95 clocking from the 1986 Goodwill Games (while still discrediting all of his other times achieved while on drugs), but that run came subsequent to his disqualification period and so shouldn’t be officially recognised.
Mark Lewis-Francis famously went sub-10 in 2001, but his 9.97 came in a race with a faulty wind gauge and so cannot be included in a list alongside other wind-legal performances.
Phil DeRosier clocked 9.97 in 2012, but with his previous season’s best being 10.30, it is generally regarded as a doubtful performance.
What this means is that Gemili DID indeed become the official 100th member of the sub-10-second club last weekend in Birmingham.

Richard Thompson one of five T&T athletes in Sub-10 Club that includes
Keston Beldman, Marc Burns, Darrel Brown and the retired Ato Boldon.
So here are all 100 members, in chronological order of their first sub-10 performance. I’ll try to keep this list updated as and when athletes join the sub-10 club.

As can be seen from list above Ato Boldon was the 19th athlete in history to enter the Sub-10 Club when he ran 9.93 in Walnut, USA back in April 1996.
The next T&T athletes to enter the Sub-10 Club were Marc Burns (9.96) and Darrel Brown (9.99) who both ran sub-10 in the same race in Port of Spain back in June 2005 to enter the Sub-10 Club as the 46th and 47th members respectively.
Richard Thompson was the 59th athlete in the world to enter the Sub-10 Club when he ran 9.93 in Auburn, USA back in May 2008.
Keston Bledman was the 78th athlete in the world to enter the Sub-10 Club when he ran 9.93 in Clermont, USA in April 2011.
Since 2011 we have been waiting for some new male T&T sprinters to enter the Sub-10 Club but seem to be going thru a bit of a dry patch so more of our younger male T&T sprinters need to step up.
Our NAAA's need to make some positive moves to address the current dry patch of no new T&T Sub-10 sprinters for the past 4 years.
