TTFF: Warner has the money…Football body vows to continue duties
By Lasana Liburd (wired868.com)

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) today insisted that Works Minister and ex-FIFA Vice President Jack Warner was the sole arbiter of its World Cup revenue and it did not have the funds to honour its debt of $4.6 million to the 2006 World Cup players.

The figure represented the second interim payment awarded by Justice Devindra Rampersad which was due to the 13 “Soca Warriors” on 18 October 2011. The players successfully sued the TTFF and its former President Oliver Camps for unpaid bonuses from the country’s historic appearance at the 2006 World Cup tournament in Germany.

As a result of the unpaid debt, the TTFF’s head office at 43 Dundonald Street, Port of Spain was closed today and all removable assets were seized following instructions by the High Court.

Four World Cup players, Brent Sancho, Cyd Gray, Anthony Wolfe and David Atiba Charles, turned up at the TTFF office at around 10 am today with a court-appointed marshall and 15 policemen to execute the order.

Acting TTFF President Lennox Watson asked for an hour's grace to find the money, which was granted. But Watson was unable to source the cash within the agreed time frame.

"The TTFF had hoped that 2006 World Cup Local Organizing Committee (LOC) accounts of which Mr. Warner was the sole arbiter," stated the TTFF release, "would have been reconciled and payments would have been made to the players. This unfortunately has not occurred.

"The TTFF on its own does not have the resources to fulfill this request for such payment."

Statement matter involving the TTFF and 2006 W/Cup players.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation acknowledges, that in keeping with an order of the High Court, the TTFF head offices located at 43 Dundonald Street, Port of Spain, was today, Wednesday February 7th, 2012, closed and removable assets were seized on instructions from the High Court. However the TTFF will continue to function as the elected governing body for football.

The TTFF also wishes to advise that following an order $7,040,000 which was ordered by Justice Devindra Rampersad on February 25th 2011, that figure was subsequently paid in 2011 to thirteen members of the 2006 World Cup Squad. A second interim payment of $4.6 million was ordered in October, 2011.

Since the departure Mr. Jack Warner from the TTFF, this matter has been pending and following the second Court order, the TTFF had hoped that 2006 World Cup Local Organizing Committee (LOC) accounts of which Mr. Warner was the sole arbiter, would have been reconciled and payments would have been made to the players. This unfortunately has not occurred. The TTFF on its own does not have the resources to fulfill this request for such payment.

On the matter of the account in question, the TTFF fully expected Mr. Warner to comply with the instructions of the Court to have the accounts ready and delivered to the Court by February 14th.

The TTFF acknowledges that the Players have exercised their legal rights.

The TTFF reiterates that as an organization, it does not at this time have to luxury of $4.6 million to pay the players but it does acknowledge the debt.

The TTFF will continue its operations with focus of the National Under 23 Men’s team and U-17 Women’s team which goes into World Cup qualification in May. Funds for these two teams have been guaranteed by the Ministry of Sport and therefore their programs will be continued.

The Men’s Olympic team is off to Tobago this weekend for a training camp and will then depart for Costa Rica and Orlando for further training camps before traveling to Carson, California to contest the final round of the Olympic qualification. The TTFF will also continue its FA Trophy competition and will host the Draw for the Round of 8 tomorrow.

In light of this matter, the TTFF Executive Committee has called an emergency meeting and will address the media further at 4:30pm on Thursday (Feb 9th) at the Harvard Sports Club.

Fuentes has always been a faithful servant canine... why should they fire him?  He barks when told to bark and otherwise sits, rolls over, and plays dead on command.

Now if is not mad people running that place I eh know....in one sentence we get this.....

The TTFF reiterates that as an organization, it does not at this time have to luxury of $4.6 million to pay the players but it does acknowledge the debt.

......but in the next sentence we get this.....

Ah guess the plan to pay the hotels directly, and the maxi man to transport the players and the caterers for the food, and the airline outlined by Anil last year would be in full effect cuz if I'm not mistaken any monies received by the TTFF from here on in belongs to the players.....not so??

In any event, the two statements have a kind of la la land feeling to them..... :-\

Promises to pay and/or monies already paid. Look at how long coaches and other staff have already functioned without pay. Besides hasn't the sports minister already put in place plan to fund some of their expenses directly?

I for one would hope the monies from the government stay separate and the preparation of the Under 23 team is not affected.  Go after the 2006 money which is now in somebody bank account.  I like the statement made that levy actions could be made against Camps (and I should add Warner as the sole arbiter) for the funds.  When the heads of the US Banks fatten their bank accounts with rediculous bonuses, did they not have to pay (or at worse embarrased by the diclosure of how much they stole) when facing the courts.

Blessings

I believe the arrangement with the gov't is that no funds actually go to TTFF. Approved expenditures would be paid by the gov't directly. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. I do wonder though, if this arrangement is already in place, why is it that the staff hasn't been paid for months?

That is what I believe to be as well. And this was done to see that money was spent properly and not put in the hands of incompetents.
