Anil kicking ball at La Horquetta

MINISTER OF SPORT Anil Roberts will don his football boots for a friendly match tomorrow to mark the handing over of a refurbished pavilion and flood-lit recreation ground to the residents of La Horquetta, Arima.
The function is being staged jointly by the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SPORTT) in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC).
Among the attendees will be Minister Roberts, Jairam Seemungal, MP for La Horquetta/Talparo, area councillor Jlynn Roopnarine, as well as T&TEC chairman Omar Khan and general manager Glenford Cyrille.
The event takes place from 5 p.m. at the La Horquetta Recreation Ground, Phase II, La Horquetta, Arima.
The function will commence with a small-goal football game between youth teams in the area, followed by the formal ceremony and lighting at 6.30 p.m.
It culminates with another small-goal game at 7 p.m. between a Sports Company team and a community squad.
Roberts, a Fatima College player in his school days, will run out with the Sports Company team.
The La Horquetta venue facilitates members of the community, with football being the primary sporting activity.
The Sports Company managed the project, which is one of 22 similar upgrade projects currently underway across Trinidad.
The works completed on the pavilion at La Horquetta include: pressure washing; painting; guttering; installation of doors, mirrors and toilets; tile and electrical work.
Additionally, T&TEC has installed lighting on the ground to allow for sports and other activities at night.
