Canada dominates T&T in 2-0 win.
By Inshan Mohammed.
A pair of second half goals gave Canada a 2-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in a friendly encounter at the Central Broward Regional Complex in Fort Lauderdale, USA on Wednesday.
Under Trinidadian-born head coach Stephen Hart- the Canadians dominated the entire game especially in the second half.
The only live-wire for the Soca Warriors' were Lester Peltier who made some penetrating runs at the Canadians in the first half. However, T&T allowed Canada to come at them and eventually the pressure paid off for the Canucks'.
Both teams went into the dressing room deadlock, but Canada was the one who came out a different team in the second half and took it to the Warriors.
Tosaint Ricketts open his account in the 58th minute when he met a cross from substitute Marcel De Jong, the striker buried it in the top right corner leaving T&T goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams with no chance.
Canada continued to press as T&T were pined in their own half with nothing going for them, then 4 minutes from time a T&T defender handled the ball in the box and Canada was awarded a penalty.
Will Johnson stepped up and made no mistake from the resulting spot-kick despite Williams getting a hand to it.
By then the game was out of T&T's reach and with 6 minutes plus injury time left on the clock Canada sailed comfortably to it's first ever victory for Stephen Hart over his homeland at senior level since he took over as Canada's head coach.
Hart's international coaching record improves to 18 wins, 10 draws and 13 losses in 41 matches. In six matches in the state of Florida, he has four wins, one draw and one loss.
Under Stephen Hart however, T&T has defeated Canada at the Under 17 level. In 2007 in route to South Korea T&T were victorious over the Canadians 2-1 in a CONCACAF Final round qualifier at the National Stadium, Kingston.
Then at the Under 20 level in a CONCACAF Men's Under-20 Championship qualifier in Trinidad. Sean De Silva's goal was enough to seal a 1-0 win over Canada. Stephen Hart, at the time was the Canadian Soccer Association Technical Director.
Canada meanwhile, from its victory should get a bit of positive momentum heading into its next match, a Sept. 7 meeting with Panama in World Cup qualifying action.
T&T on the other hand is preparing for the 2012 Caribbean Cup and will return home and continue to train as the Soca Warriors is carded to face Puerto Rico at a date to be announced sometime next month.
T&T meantime, has been inactive for 6 months (since February 29th, 2012), also, under interim head coach Hutson Charles- T&T has played a total of three games; they lost 2 and won 1; conceding 5 and, scoring 6 goals in the process.

ah was there,we ain't going nowhere
fast ah mean slow.
-
Waay dem fellas looking bun. Man cah even track back after the ball pass him.
-
First half when the both teams played at a slow pace we looked competitive. The Second half Canada played at a faster pace and we were chasing shadows. The defence looked Ok and the midfield passed the ball well but it is in the final third that we lost the way. No one was willing to make a run to goal .
-
Predictable yes!!!! shame shame to all those responsible for putting us in this mess then dragging we out in public for further humiliation. I think with the lack of quality players and coaches, the Canada's women team could put a cut arse on we and take the bronze away.

T&T defeated by Canada in Fort Lauderdale friendly.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).
Trinidad and Tobago’s senior men’s team let a decent start go to waste as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Canada in Wednesday’s friendly international at the Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale.
The “Soca Warriors” conceded in the 58th minute when Tosaint Ricketts fired home and fell further behind in the 86th minute after William Johnson converted a penalty.
T&T actually had the better start of the two teams and had Slovak-based striker Lester Peltier capitalized on at least one of his three first half chances, things could have gone better for the former
Caribbean champions.
The Canadians though, coached by T&T-born Stephen Hart would have come away with the necessary boost ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Panama while
T&T will regroup and home to come better for their Digicel Caribbean Cup early phase in September.
On seven minutes, after being sent through by Clyde Leon, Peltier slipped past Doneil Henry and then shot across the goal only to see the ball go inches past the far post with Devorn Jorsling lurking near the six yard box.
Seven minutes later T&T looked good going forward and were rewarded with a free kick on the left of the box which was whipped inside by Kevin Molino but Peltier could not get enough on his header from the six yard and goalkeeper Lars Hirschfield made easy work of it.
Moments later Peltier was at it again but his low shot was stopped by Hirschfield where better direction could have seen T&T into the lead. And just when you thought the ball couldn’t stop following him around the box, the speedy winger upped the pace on a run in from the right side before his dangerous looking cross was intercepted near the goal.
Canada, in the midst of their World Cup campaign, proved to be fitter and more cohesive as the match progressed. They had a good effort denied by the near upright when Ricketts cut in from the flank and powered his effort off the post in the 35th.
T&T coach Hutson Charles introduced Darryl Roberts at the start of the second half in place of Peltier who felt a strain in his hamstring. Defender Seon Power gave a lot of effort until he was forced to leave the field due to leg cramps in the 77th.
T&T was already two player short after midfielder Hughtun Hector did not suit up after failing to recover from an ankle blow picked up in a league game in Vietnam on the day he left for Miami, while a replacement was not found in time following Khaleem Hyland’s late drop out. Leston Paul had also been ruled out of the trip due to injury recovery.
Canada started better after the interval and deservedly took the lead when Ricketts clinically shot home to Williams’ left in the 58th minute after Marcel De Jong’s ball came across from the left.
T&T legs started tiring by the 70th minute and Canada started to take more control, maintaining the majority of possession and forcing T&T in the half for much of the remaining minutes.
Mitchell’s Vancouver Whitecaps teammate Russell Teibert also kept T&T busy with some darting runs on the left.
Williams did well to save a header but there was nothing he could do to prevent William Johnson’s penalty from going in after substitute defender Kareem Moses was adjudged by American referee Jair Marrufo to have used his hand to block Johnson’s attempt to find Ricketts from the left.
T&T had two further tries that fail to cause much of a panic for Canada, one being a low effort by Keon Daniel and the final effort coming from Cyrus who tried to curl one home on the far post just before the end.
Charles later admitted he was hoping for a better finish to the match.
“I thought we started well but we withered as the game went on and that was evident because of some of the players not being in full season and still preparing for the star of the Pro League back home,” Charles told TTFF Media.
“But in saying that I was hoping that we would capitalize on the chances that we got and put the pressure on Canada.
But instead they got their goals and the game got easier for them. But we’ve only just come together a couple days before this game and hopefully with a couple more games under our belt, we will get that cohesiveness in time for the Digicel Cup,” he added.

Fitness- Fitness- Fitness- Men bun early in the second half, walking pace and giving the ball away.
What is Keon Daniel's problem- Not tracking back and looked out of sorts.
-
With all things considerd i think 2-0 was not that bad.T&T football in a mess and if Canada can only muster 2 (one being a penalty) T&T really did not do that bad.
-
All things considered we came out of that match with a little respect,we missed some important players and we haven't had any proper football for some time,2-0 is not bad whenyou think that up to the 86 minute it was 1-0.We again showed that we cant play 90 solid minutes of football maybe our foreign players will help make us a better team.
Jlloyd,Birchall,Hyland,Hector,Samuel,Scotland and there may be others I'm sure,I am happy we weren't battered all things considered.
Well done Jamaica its never easy to beat the Central Americans in their own backyard...uno on track.

He gets praised for his work rate in Philly. And the few games I've watched he was all over the place putting in tackles.
We still playing him on de wing?
-
What I dont understand.
Lester Peltier was T&T's best player in the first half why did they sub him at the half ?
Why didn't Charles sub Keon instead, he was lifeless.
And Leston Paul for Kevin Molino too.

Thanks Tallman....Him and Keon get my vote for best players on the night. In fact the two of them looked like the only competent professionals on the team, and composed on the ball. The rest looked decidedly amateurish.

if they don't spend money on a good program, then no success fuh dem! remember i say so.

I was there without any type of expectations but I can say this our football has been sabotage and is if not dead almost dead, we will need a miracle.
I will also add while sitting with some trinis it's interesting to note the mentality of some of our fans which usually spills over to the players.
Here's an example; one guy said if he was on that team the guy Rickettes from the Canadian team he could'nt do all that trickery and fancy shit on the ball I would break he foot and make sure both ah we come off.Folks this is same reason why our football is in the doldrums.
Here's another reality those guys don't look like they're scared of losing their place on the team it's as if they no something we don't and to top that fans are looking for the next coming of latapy. What a shame what a sinking feeling I get to think that when I played ball we were so loaded and competitive.
This is an example of when politics get into sports what happens.
-
Not a good result, but we need to play these games at least once a month if we really want to compete with the big boys. Consistency and gelling the team is critical. Watch out for the USA with coach Jurgen Klinsman. They are putting more distance between us and them. In fact, I would say that we are behind the following teams right now - Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, Canada, Jamaica, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, El Salvador and maybe Haiti and Cuba. That is how much mountain we have to climb to get to another World Cup.
-
SH looking like ah ole foul theif and Tallman need to shave...

Cross, the money will come from local industries when these guys get their books together! there are tons of initiatives for sponsors in T&T, so i don't see why no cooperation would not jump @ the opportunity to sponsor the team, since there's more pros than cons involved. how come despers , all stars and renegades don't have a problem finding a sponsor?
friend, the country just give away millions to some olympians, so why can't they allocate 3 million a year in their budget towards the senior team??
i understand what yuh saying, and i know jack hand has been around our football's neck forever, but if these guys get up and pound the pavement they will find sponsorship right there in T&T, they don't need to rely on government funding anymore!
there are several countries who are self sufficient and rely only on cooperate sponsorship, jamaica being one of them. the problem iz, these men who running T&T football ( in the ground ;D) are clueless and complaisant, they are not serious bout the sport.
if their heart was in it they would have started a company that will ensure the survival of the sport. carnival is around the corner, they should be keeping fetes, and stage shows to generate income. every month the TTFF could throw a show and make some serious money, the thing is, these fellas want to live high off the football when it should be the other way around.
IMO, when these old fellas start looking @ football as a service to be performed, and not a career, then and only then football will soar, but until then, we in serious trouble, and expect more of the same ole drought.
-
Looks like they had darryl roberts playing on the right wing, now why would you play a striker in that position when this guy is ah pure posher? pfister tried that remedy and it failed, so why resort to it further? the man don't have that kind of speed, hence the reason he should be in the middle of the park front and center. these coaches incredible yes. positive.
-
Eh TC, what ever happen to that fatman in yuh sig, did the ice cream truck dun him or he survived? too funny. :rotfl:
-
Saga Pinto. We really need another playmaker in the mold of Latapy. Someone to split the defence that was sadly lacking in the game against Canada, Josling did well in holding the ball a la Stern but no one to pass it to as we lack speed in the final third. We need a development Coach and a fitness Coach.
-
That pitch look rel short :-\
-
T&T football not going to miraculously ressurect jes so.
We at a similar point in we football to where we were back in the 80's. There was a golden period with the team and "stars" from the early 70's.....De Leon, Archibald, Gally, etc
After that 73 World Cup squad had finished playing (Dilly wasn't part of that squad BTW), we then went through some real lean years in the late 70's early 80s.
The advent of players like Latas, Yorke, Nixon etc helped to revive we fortunes culminating in the Strike Squad
We kinda went along after the success of the Strike squad to the point where we were dominant regionally, but never quite got it right at the higher level until the Soca Warriors...which was a team that was made of up EXTREMELY EXPERIENCED players with the same Latas and Yorke in the twilight of their careers.
Now we goin through a nex guava season and it will take a while to recover. It seem hopeless now....but it WILL get better. The question is WHEN?

I am interested in hearing Hart's take on this game. This Canadian team not making it out of this rounds.
I had to come back to this to verify . Buh in all seriousness, this is Exhibit A in why when posters make blanket statements like this, I "encourage" them to support their assertions. Doing so generally lends credibility to the comments made.
On balance, it would seem that yuh almost eat yuh words. ;D
-
i HATE TO SAY IT BUT I TOLD YOU SO. I looked at their games and I saw them against a pick up T&T side.
